Turkey Releases Alleged Recording Of Warning To Russian Pilot

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier today, Russia announced that special forces were indeed able to rescue one of the two pilots that ejected from the Su-24 shot down by Turkish F-16s near the Syrian border on Tuesday.

In the 36 or so hours since the incident, both Moscow and Ankara have been busy trying to “prove” their respective sides of the story. Turkey swears the Russian warplane was warned as many as 10 times on the approach and was only engaged once it entered Turkish airspace. Russia says the pilots knew the area “like the back of their hands” and that Ankara shot the plane down in the skies above Syria.

Here’s what rescued co-pilot Konstantin Murahtin had to say earlier today:

"There were no warnings. Not via the radio, not visually. There was no contact whatsoever. That's why we were keeping our combat course as usual. You have to understand what the cruising speed of a bomber is compared to an F-16. If they wanted to warn us, they could have shown themselves by heading on a parallel course. But there was nothing. And the rocket hit our tail completely unexpectedly. We didn't even see it in time to take evasive maneuvres."

Now, a recording of Turkey warning the Russian Su-24 has surfaced apparently courtesy of a civilian pilot from a Lebanese airline (who we imagine may get some questions from Hezbollah in the near future). Here’s The Telegraph’s summary:

An audio recording has emerged purporting to be the recording of Turkey warning the Russian plane.

The voice is heard saying in English: “Unknown air traffic position onto Humeymim 020, redirect to 26 miles. This is Turkish Air Force speaking - en guard. You are approaching Turkish airspace. Change your heading south immediately."

Earlier today, the surviving pilot claimed that he had not received any visual or radio warning from Turkey - contradicting Turkey's claim that they warned them numerous times.

The recording was passed on to TV news channel Al-Arabiya by a civilian pilot for Lebanese airline MEA in the sky at the time.

He claimed that this event had happened multiple times in the last week, with each warning met with silence from Russia. This clam is not verified.

And here's the audio:

From Al-Arabiya (you can listen to their recording here):

A civilian pilot who was in the sky when the Turkish military issued a warning to, and ultimately shot down, a Russian fighter jet has provided Al Arabiya News with a recording that proves the Turkish authorities issued several warnings to the plane.

The pilot, who was flying a Middle East Airlines (MEA) flight from Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport to a Gulf country at approximately 9:00 a.m. (local Lebanese time) yesterday also verified the authenticity of a similar recording which was uploaded on the information sharing website LiveLeak which many international media outlets have carried.

“I confirm the authenticity of their recording, I heard these exact same warnings over and over again and the part I recorded on my phone was actually towards the end when I felt the matter was getting serious,” the Lebanese aviator told Al Arabiya News on the condition of anonymity.

Later on Wedensday, the Turkish army officially released similar recordings.

So draw your own conclusions. Is this concrete proof that the Russian pilots were warned, or does this soundbite come courtesy of the audio/visual wizards at Al Hayat Media Center? We'll close with another quote from Konstantin Murahtin:

"I'm going to ask our command to keep me on this base — I have a debt to repay, for my commander."

THE LIE SURFACES!!!!!

BULLSHIT!

All modern combat aircraft -- especially when flying real combat missions have electronics that help warn the aircrew of missile radar locks and other offensive capabilities pointed at their"But there was nothing. And the rocket hit our tail completely unexpectedly" aircraft.

THE RUSSIAN PILOT JUST SAID THEY HAD "NO WARNING" WHICH IS OBVIOUS BULLSHIT!

The Turks would have been radar locking them and inside the Russian cockpit, there would be bells, whistles and all sort of things screaming at them they were about to be shot.

C'mon these lies are so dumb now that it isn't even embarassing anymore, it's amateur hour...

----

Su-24s have more comprehensive radar warning, missile-launch warning, and active ECM equipment, with triangular antennas on the sides of the intakes and the tip of the vertical fin.

It really doesn't matter. They didn't have to shoot it at all, just escort it out of the air space as NATO rules clearly state. Epecially when they knew the direction of the plane and it was clearly not going north towards Turkey, but straight west apparently.

Why are you people so fixated on who is telling the truth or not. It does not matter. Both sides agree it was only a few seconds. The Turks response was over the top, especially in an area prone to mistakes with so many people of different air forces flying around.

The truth matters a lot!

The Russians are painting this as the victim. This way they can seek some sort of "revenge" which they are not entitled because they are the ones that fucked up.

The truth must be told because otherwise Russia will carry on with its current program of distortion and disinformation which lets them do anything they want (so they think)

Look at these further truths of the Russians acting lke assholes and continually provoking incidents. You can see the turkish truth in thes incidents. Simply pay attention.

---

On Oct. 27, USS Ronal Regan, sailing in international waters east of the Korean peninsula, had to scramble four F/A-18 Hornets after two Russian Navy Tu-142 Bear aircraft flew within a nautical mile of the U.S. Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

The four Navy Hornets escorted the Tu-142, an ASW (anti-submarine warfare) variant of the iconic Tu-95 Bear strategic bomber, away from the U.S. warship.

This is not the first time a Russian warplane buzzes a U.S. flattop: in 2008, USS Nimitz operating in the Pacific had to launch some Hornets to intercept and escort two Tu-95s approaching the carrier.

More recently, in April 2014, a Su-24 Fencer flew multiple passes at 500 feet above sea level, within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, the U.S. Navy destroyer operating in the Black Sea at that time: a behaviour that the ship commander considered “provocative and inconsistent with international agreements.”

On Mar. 3, 2015, Russian Su-30s and Su-24s aircraft from Russia’s Black Sea Fleet based in Crimea conducted attack runs on NATO warships operating in the Black Sea “to practice penetrating anti-air systems.”

Now YOU on the other hand, instantly launch into some bullshit about Wahabbis and Saudi Arabia. HEY EINSTEIN THAT HAS NOTHING TO TO DO WITH WHAT THIS ARTICLE IS ABOUT! NOTHING.

In FACT, you are the troll trying to distort the conversation around some other shit.

So then the Chinese should sink those US ships sailing by the islands in the South China sea?  The US was warned, too.  Should the planes and ships be sunk for just sailing or flying by?  The Russians were not there to bomb Turkey.  What damage was done to Turkish soll that justified taking down that plane?  Don't you think it would have been better if Turkey lodged an official complaint regarding the incident?  How many Turkish children were killed by the Russians in that flyover?  None.  How many children have been killed in the middle east by NATO?  Hundreds.  Ish't the presence of NATO planes over Syria one big illegal flyover day after fucking day?  Want to explain the justification for that?  I haven't seen Syrian planes bomb any NATO countries, or their ships shell any NATO land.  Nor has any official force of Syria invaded the US.  Have you seen it?  I sure haven't.

That is part of the criteria for membership into NATO.  In addition you must also have something strategic; like geographic location, which is the only reason they are in NATO and soon they will find out that it is not the benefit they expected.

Then again the world is about to find out how bad things can and will get.

Great post Crocodile.  From the first day Turkey became a member of NATO the only reason I could think of why they would allow Turkey was that it was a great place for us to put missiles.  When JFK convinced Russia to take the missiles out of Cuba we agreed to take some out of Turkey but few people know that.  The people got the usual...a half truth.

How come Turkey/FOX news has a more clear sounding recording then the Al Arabiya? Different sources?? There was no Russian reply to the Turk air force warnings, not much of a warning! Obviously, the Russians were working the military call frequency and not the civilian call frequency. Obama, the Turks and Russians supposedly had already worked out the details on how to avoid this  type of 'in the air' problem. The Turks are lying bastards and ignored the memo to be a puppet in the NATO charade of provoking Russia. Who the fuck is running our country, it is certainly not the B grade actor Obama, I wonder when we will learn the name of our Big Brother in the Deep State, our real Dear Leader?

If they're flying where they're supposed to be (over Syria), any such warnings were broadcast at all, at least several questions arise:

#1:  If you know you are not entering Turkey airspace, why would you assume the message was for you?  Answer:  You wouldn't.

#2:  Assuming these recordings are legit (which isn't clear), were they made from a location where the Russian plane would receive them?

#3:  Assuming these recordings are legit (which isn't clear), were they made on a frequency the Russian plane would definitely receive them?  Note that two-way communications radios function on one frequency at any given moment.  While an airplane can have more than one radios to handle more than one frequency simultaneously, there are literally hundreds of frequencies to communicate over.

While I somewhat understand these issues, being a private pilot, I have no special knowledge about or experience with any military aircraft systems.  So my nominal assumptions above could be imprecise in the context of military operations.  However, I would be surprised to learn those aircraft monitor every possible communications frequency.  What frequency does Turkey claim they broadcast warnings over?

They may have been warned that they were in a vector inside Syrian airspace, an accordding to Turkey, the Su-24 braached turkish aisrpace for 17 seconds, let me repeat it again, 17 seconds, which does not give ample time to lock on fire a missile without warning. The Turks or no one for that matter have any rights to warn anyone that they are about to breach or heading towards anyone else's airspace.

You can not warn me as a nieghbour, not to jump the fence when I am walking towards it, no way, I am in my yard and until you see me climb the wall tehn you can begin to warn me until then keep your eyes towards your yard not mine.
