Obama Says "Enough Is Enough," Urges Gun Restrictions After Deadly Planned Parenthood Standoff
Another 'mass' shooting, and another outraged statement from President Obama proclaiming "enough is enough." With 9 injured, and 2 police officers and 1 civilian dead after the dreadful standoff at a Planned Parenthood office in Colorado Springs, the President took the opportunity to explain "we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period." Of course, any discussion of the shooter's mental health, the violent polarization towards and politicization of abortion among an increasingly micro-aggressive America were conveniently ignored.
As Reuters reports, expressing what has become regularly repeated frustration on the issue, President Barack Obama said on Saturday the United States needs to "do something" to make it harder for criminals to get guns after a shooting in Colorado killed three people and injured nine.
In Friday's shooting, an assailant opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic, a center that provides health services including abortions, in Colorado Springs.
It was the latest in a long series of U.S. mass shootings during Obama's seven years in office. He has called the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, his toughest day as president.
Obama said it was too soon to know the Colorado Springs shooter's "so-called motive" but said the tragedy was more evidence pointing to the need to reform firearms laws.
"This is not normal," said Obama, who has become increasingly forthright in urging gun control measures when he makes statements after such events. "We can’t let it become normal."
Obama tried to tighten up gun laws after the Newtown shootings, but met resistance in the U.S. Congress, including from some of his fellow Democrats, and failed to push a measure through.
After another deadly shooting at an Oregon community college last month, Obama said White House lawyers would pore through existing laws to look for new ways he could use his executive powers to enforce regulations.
One of those options would require more gun dealers to get a license to sell guns, which would lead to more background checks on buyers.
The White House had drafted a proposal on that issue in 2013, but was concerned it could be challenged in court. Administration officials are now hopeful they can find a way to advance the plan.
Obama has also pledged to elevate the issue of gun laws during his remaining time in office, and has denounced lawmakers for bowing to pressure from the powerful National Rifle Association lobby group.

When I was in the military, I carried an M4 with a barrel too short to have without a tax license, a shotgun with impossible to get breaching rounds outside of mil/LE commmunity, and a machine gun that you can't even buy as a civilian, because it was never made here in the US. I also carried det. cord and a brick of C4 that is literally impossible to get in the US for any person without a security clearance.

Well, since you are looking for an example, how about looking into statistics here in Texas. We've had no mass school shootings here. Ever wonder why? Well, maybe it is because there would be an instant response from armed parents. Here in Texas, as a CHL (concealed handgun license) holder, you may stand on the front steps of your child's school while covertly armed. Many of the teachers and administrators are CHL holders or avid sportsmen and have firearms readily available in their vehicles. Where the shootings do tend to occur are in the "Progressive" enclaves where the "civilised" lefties try to emulate the socialist European model and just naturally assume that "someone else" will protect them or their families.

I do have personal experience in the use of deadly force to stop an aggressor. the latest use was only two years ago as a tourist in Oklahoma City. Most "mass shootings" are the result of urban primitives engaged in killing each other (i.e., gang violence).

There are states in the US with very high rates of gun ownership, lax "gun control", and very low homicide rates. There are also states and municipalities with comparably low rates of gun ownership, much stricter "gun control", and much higher homicide rates; not by coincidence, these places with the highest homicide rates and strictest gun control also have the highest concentration of urban primitives.
Globally, the US has one of the highest rates of gun ownership and one of the lowest homicide rates, a reality which of course is easy for leftoids to hide from people if they only include a small sample of countries in their statistical comparisons.
Here in the US, violent crime is most correlated with the percentage of urban primitives (i.e., black people) living in an area. The correlation is between .75 and .85, depending on the data set you want to use. Anyone who knows anything about statistics knows that a correlation in the range of .8 is extraordinary.

The muskets that were the state of the art in weaponry in the days of the revolutionary War could have been considered an "Assault Rifle" too back then. But, I generally do agree with your assessment. A SA rifle does not in any way compete as well with a fully-automatic weapon in the right hands. That is why stand-off capability is so important. If you know that the police cruisers assigned to watch captains in your AO have M-4's and 320 rds. of 62grain XM855 in the trunk, then you need to be able to engage the driver of said vehicle from 400 yards or greater. A good bolt action chambered in 300 Win Mag or .338 (Win or Lapua mag) could certainly do the trick.
