Obama Says "Enough Is Enough," Urges Gun Restrictions After Deadly Planned Parenthood Standoff
Another 'mass' shooting, and another outraged statement from President Obama proclaiming "enough is enough." With 9 injured, and 2 police officers and 1 civilian dead after the dreadful standoff at a Planned Parenthood office in Colorado Springs, the President took the opportunity to explain "we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period." Of course, any discussion of the shooter's mental health, the violent polarization towards and politicization of abortion among an increasingly micro-aggressive America were conveniently ignored.
As Reuters reports, expressing what has become regularly repeated frustration on the issue, President Barack Obama said on Saturday the United States needs to "do something" to make it harder for criminals to get guns after a shooting in Colorado killed three people and injured nine.
In Friday's shooting, an assailant opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic, a center that provides health services including abortions, in Colorado Springs.
It was the latest in a long series of U.S. mass shootings during Obama's seven years in office. He has called the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, his toughest day as president.
Obama said it was too soon to know the Colorado Springs shooter's "so-called motive" but said the tragedy was more evidence pointing to the need to reform firearms laws.
"This is not normal," said Obama, who has become increasingly forthright in urging gun control measures when he makes statements after such events. "We can’t let it become normal."
Obama tried to tighten up gun laws after the Newtown shootings, but met resistance in the U.S. Congress, including from some of his fellow Democrats, and failed to push a measure through.
After another deadly shooting at an Oregon community college last month, Obama said White House lawyers would pore through existing laws to look for new ways he could use his executive powers to enforce regulations.
One of those options would require more gun dealers to get a license to sell guns, which would lead to more background checks on buyers.
The White House had drafted a proposal on that issue in 2013, but was concerned it could be challenged in court. Administration officials are now hopeful they can find a way to advance the plan.
Obama has also pledged to elevate the issue of gun laws during his remaining time in office, and has denounced lawmakers for bowing to pressure from the powerful National Rifle Association lobby group.

I really liked your point, OEJ. It reminded me of a conversation I had with an old lady named Rose. She was a holocaust survivor I met at my college pool. (I was a rude kid and asked her why she had such a whack tattoo. Heh.)
Anyway, I asked how the hell she ended up in Louisiana and she said, after the war, any freed Polish Jews could come to the states IF they had a sponsor family and a job lined up.
She had survived the march and along the way she had seen a young man that she remembered from her former hometown. Shortly after they were turned over to American troops they married and began desperately reaching out to people in the states. Her new husband had worked in his family's shop repairing jewelry and selling pipes.
There was a family in Louisiana that had an available position for a full time employee manufacturing pipe and pipe fittings.
Of course they meant oil well pipe, and it was a huge shock for them when they arrived! But in the end, it did not matter. He stayed at the company for 30 years, learned the business inside and out and became a successful manager.
She said they also loved the Louisiana heat because they never wanted to know bitter cold again. She stayed right here in town for the rest of her life.

I thought it was an interesting conversation with a neat old lady, that was relevant to the topic of immigration.

Obama acts "normally" every time he authorizes the drone killing of some random person he's never met, but whom he perceives as a threat. This dude apparently thought Planned Parenthood was a threat so he attacked them. Do we have sympathy for the folks killed by drone strikes. This is humanity. In the US, we believe we have a culture of kindness and charity to one another, yet we are perfectly fine with killing thousands and thousands of people overseas that our leaders tell us are threats. We execute people who break our laws and we go about our day.

I am looking for a Russian semi-auto rifle in 7.62x54R. I see some of the other rifles I have accumulated in value. I have an all numbers matching clean US 1917 Winchester Enfield in 30-06. The stock is not great but the metal is perfect. It fires but I do not shoot it often because why would I? The bore is perfect. I know that it is an expensive gun just as it is. I bought it at an estate sale when I was 17 years old. The rifle was packed in cosmoline when I bought it and I cleaned it up. I am willing to trade and the reason why is that I have so much 54R ammo that I want something that I can teach my kids with besides a Mosin. I also think that this US 1917 WINCHESTER Enfield needs to be somewhere in a musuem. I have not shot it for probably 15 years but I still have to clean on it and take care of it.
I just fondled it and I don't know about selling it. That would hurt me to sell that. That rifle style is what ended up becoming the M1 Garand. Bascially, it is an M1 bolt action rifle. Unfortunately I do not have the bayonet. That is a very expensive bayonet. They are around but I won't pay retail.
If anyone is interested and wants an example for their collection, this might be the gun. Like I said, the stock is not great from sitting in cosmoline for half a century but it does have an armorers mark in the stock.
I have an 1917 Lee Enfield .303. Mine has a different story...I bought it as a 12 year old at an estate auction with an eighteen inch bayonet. This one has been through the war. The wooden stock is notched and has a chunk out of it. It was stored well, and at the time I used to fire it at groundhogs because the neighbours had boxes of ammo they'd give me to get rid of it. I don't spend much time cleaning it except to dust and oil the outside. I haven't fired it in 35 years and it is just a wall hanger to look at. I paid $30, and I expect it isn't worth much more now...damn, I just realized that thing is going to 100 years old soon. When I was a kid there were still guys around that fought with them.
It would depend on what Lee Enfield it was. Those rifles are pretty common but still cool. Probably a MKIII or MK IV? A different era there my friend. The US made Enfields are not common because recall that we did not enter the war right away. This is a five digit serial number rifle. I have never seen another one them but Lee Enfields are everywhere. Wallhangers are wallhangers but this rifle I speak of is like brand new except that the stock is still full of cosmoline. And it is a Winchester with the mark on it's barrel.
I know what I am talking about here. US rifles from right around 1900 on out shoot 30 caliber. Most people do not know this but the British 303 is actually .311 and the American 30 cal is actually .308. That is a problem in a war with Hilter. That is not even an argument about metric vs English. I know that it is a very obscure fact but it is truth. I like those Triumph motorcyles.
Somebody wants this Winchester marked ON THE BARREL 1917 Enfield rifle and I want a semi-auto 7.62x 54R. I can take pictures and send them. We are not talking about anything less than four figures.

I hear the left point out this "well regulated militia" clause all the time, and try to claim this somehow does not confer the right to bear arms to the individual. I have to laugh because in those times everyone was the "militia" which was simply every able bodied man. Additionally, do you believe that in 1787, all these founding founders got together and felt that only people serving in the militia had the right to bear arms? And since the government might deny it's own standing army the right to have weapons, it was deemed absolutely critcal that they guarantee the right early and put it #2 in the constitution. Really? Does anyone believe that, after we took up arms and fought off the British? That is an idiotic notion. What army has been denied weapons by their own government? Of course the second amendment affirmed the individuals' right to keep and bear arms, and the founders had a specific purpose in mind for that as well.

The Bill of Rights is about INDIVIDUAL rights, not rights relating to a group, i.e. a militia. There is no abiguity in the Second Amendment, the right of the idividual shall not be infringed.
