Former CIA Deputy Director Gives A Stunning Reason Why Obama Has Not Attacked ISIS' Oil Infrastructure

Tyler Durden's picture

As we pointed out a week ago, even before the downing of the Russian jet by a Turkish F-16, the most important question that nobody had asked about ISIS is where is the funding for the terrorist organization coming from, and more importantly, since everyone tacitly knows where said funding is coming from (as we have revealed in an ongoing series of posts "Meet The Man Who Funds ISIS: Bilal Erdogan, The Son Of Turkey's President", "How Turkey Exports ISIS Oil To The World: The Scientific Evidence" and "ISIS Oil Trade Full Frontal: "Raqqa's Rockefellers", Bilal Erdogan, KRG Crude, And The Israel Connection") few on the US-led Western Alliance have done anything to stop the hundreds of millions in oil sale proceeds from funding the world's best organized terrorist group.

We concluded by asking "how long until someone finally asks the all important question regarding the Islamic State: who is the commodity trader breaching every known law of funding terrorism when buying ISIS crude, almost certainly with the tacit approval by various "western alliance" governments, and why is it that these governments have allowed said middleman to continue funding ISIS for as long as it has?"

To be sure, the only party that actually did something to halt ISIS' oil infrastructure was Russia, whose bombing raids of Islamic State oil routes may not only have contributed to the fatal attack by Turkey of the Russian Su-24 (as the curtailment of ISIS' oil flows led to a big hit in the funds collected by the biggest middleman in the region, Turkey, its president and his son, Bilal not to mention Israel which may have been actively buying ISIS oil over the past year) but prompted questions why the bombing campaign by the US-led alliance had been so woefully incapable of hitting ISIS where it truly hurts: its funding.

This past week, someone finally came up with a "reason" why the Obama administration had been so impotent at denting the Islamic State's well-greased oil machine. In an interview on PBS' Charlie Rose on Tuesday, Rose pointed out that before the terrorist attacks in Paris, the U.S. had not bombed ISIS-controlled oil tankers, to which the former CIA deputy director Michael Morell responded that Barack Obama didn’t order the bombing of ISIS’s oil transportation infrastructure until recently because he was concerned about environmental damage.

Yes, he really said that:

We didn’t go after oil wells, actually hitting oil wells that ISIS controls, because we didn’t want to do environmental damage, and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure.

In other words, one can blame such recent outbreaks of deadly terrorist activity as the Paris bombings and the explosion of the Russian passenger airplane over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Obama's hard line stance to not pollute the atmosphere with the toxic aftermath of destroyed ISIS infrastructure.

Brilliant.

As the Daily Caller adds, Morell also said the White House was concerned about destroying infrastructure that could be used by the Syrian people. Such profound concern for a people which has been traumatized for the past 5 years courtesy of a US-funded effort to destabilize the nation courtesy of US-armed "rebels" whose only purpose has been the deposition of yet another elected president, and where the emergence of the CIA-created Islamic State has led to the biggest wave of refugees to emerge, and flood Europe, since World War II.

But back to Obama's alleged decision that not polluting the environment is more important than halting the funding artery that keeps ISIS in business.

Morell continued "Prior to Paris, there seemed to be a judgment that … look, we don’t want to destroy these oil tankers because that’s infrastructure that’s going to be necessary to support the people when ISIS isn’t there anymore, and it’s going to create environmental damage. And we didn’t go after oil wells - actually hitting oil wells that ISIS controls because we didn’t want to do environmental damage and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure, right.”

Then we started asking questions, others joined in, and everything changed: "So now we’re hitting oil in trucks and maybe you get to the point where you say we also have to hit oil wells. So those are the kind of tough decisions you have to make."

Of course, the lunacy gets even more ridiculous when one recalls that none other than one of the democrat frontrunners for president, Bernie Sanders, suggested in all seriousness that the real cause for terrorism is climate change, an allegation subsequently echoed by both UK's Prince Charles and none other than the chief of the UN, Ban Ki-moon himself.

So here is the purported logic: climate change leads to terrorism, but one can't eradicate the primary funding source of the biggest terrorist threat in the world, the Islamic State, because of dangers it may lead to even more environmental damage and climate change.

We are truly speechless at this idiocy.

Meanwhile, the real reasons behind ISIS massive wealth build up: the illicit oil trade facilitated by, and involving NATO-member state Turkey, whose president and his son collect billions in illegal profits by arranging the charter of Islamic State oil to Israel and other international buyers of ISIS' cheap oil, and which involves such "highly respected" commodity traders as Trafigura and Vitol, continues to this day, and only Putin has done anything to put a dent in it.

For those who can't believe any of this (and it took us quite a while to realize this is not some elaborate prank) here is the clip proving the former CIA deputy director actually said it all.

The real economy requires consumable calories, period. Without consumable calories you cannot grow, do, or make shit. When your tribe does not invest it's resources wisely, your tribe has the following choice;

1) fuck off and die

or

2) go to war with the neighboring tribe and take their resources.

It has in fact been this way since the dawn of time. The spice must flow, so evolve or die fuckers.

The environmental damage of blowing up an oil truck?

Obama does realise all of this smuggeled oil is destined to be burnt regardless of whether it is in a tanker on a road is Syria or in the engines of Air Force One?

Any quantum of oil is destined to be burnt from the moment it is extracted from the earth.

If he really wanted to reduce emissions he should bomb the wells ASAP. Piss poor logic at the top of the administration.

NO, it is because it is now cheap enough (for the usual suspect) to buy it elsewhere.  Now they can target it.  Not to mention Russia made it newsworthy and they had to do something.  Too late,  it wll all come out but they will try to contain the damage until on one cares.

What we know:

- The ISIS oil is sold to Turkey for about half market value and Turkey then gets it out to the open market and makes hundreds of millions in profit.

- Barry’s environmental concerns are obvious bulllshit

What we don’t know:

- Is Merrill just another tool of the left trying to give cover to Barry with the bullshit environment story or is he simply reporting what he really was told.

- How much Barry & Clinton & Soros are getting paid by Turkey to ensure that the Spice Flows.

Then I needed to mortise and tenon a couple pieces of Maple… then I needed cut some EMT so that I could start to replace all of the 4 foot 80W fluorescents with  a few ganged hex box 3000 degree LED’s that only draw 24 watts.

Then I needed to thread two sides of a 3 foot piece of ¾ inch black pipe

And then goddam it,  wouldn’t you know that I needed sweat a piece of ½ inch copper into the water heater..

Then I had to go and to replace a cord on the bush trimmer and then O-Scope a bad large screen display and replace some caps.

Outside of all that it was a pretty normal day.

..so how is that degree in Philosophy working out nowadays, kiddies ?????

Russian airstrikes have stopped NATO's terrorist convoys dead in their tracks

Tony Cartalucci
New Eastern Outlook
Sun, 29 Nov 2015 20:21 UTCMap

© Reuters

For years, NATO has granted impunity to convoys packed with supplies bound for ISIS and Al Qaeda. Russian airstrikes have stopped them dead in their tracks. If a legitimate, well-documented aid convoy carrying humanitarian supplies bound for civilians inside Syria was truly destroyed by Russian airstrikes, it is likely the world would never have heard the end of it.

Instead, much of the world has heard little at all about a supposed "aid" convoy destroyed near Azaz, Syria, at the very edge of the Afrin-Jarabulus corridor through which the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) and Al Qaeda's remaining supply lines pass, and in which NATO has long-sought to create a "buffer zone" more accurately described as a Syrian-based, NATO-occupied springboard from which to launch terrorism deeper into Syrian territory.

The Turkish-based newspaper Daily Sabah reported in its article, "Russian airstrikes target aid convoy in northwestern Syrian town of Azaz, 7 killed," claims:
At least seven people died, 10 got injured after an apparent airstrike, reportedly by Russian jets, targeted an aid convoy in northwestern Syrian town of Azaz near a border crossing with Turkey on Wednesday.
Daily Sabah also reported:
Speaking to Daily Sabah, Serkan Nergis from the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) said that the targeted area is located some 5 kilometers southwest of the Öncüp?nar Border Crossing.

Nergis said that IHH has a civil defense unit in Azaz and they helped locals to extinguish the trucks. Trucks were probably carrying aid supplies or commercial materials, Nergis added.
Daily Sabah's report also reveals that the Turkish-Syrian border crossing of Oncupinar is held by what it calls "rebels." The border crossing of Oncupinar should be familiar to many as it was the scene of Germany's international broadcaster Deutsche Welle's (DW) investigative report where DW camera crews videotaped hundreds of trucks waiting at the border, bound for ISIS territory, apparently with full approval of Ankara.

The report was published in November of 2014, a full year ago, and revealed precisely how ISIS has been able to maintain its otherwise inexplicable and seemingly inexhaustible fighting capacity. The report titled, "'IS' supply channels through Turkey," included a video and a description which read:
Every day, trucks laden with food, clothing, and other supplies cross the border from Turkey to Syria. It is unclear who is picking up the goods. The haulers believe most of the cargo is going to the "Islamic State" militia. Oil, weapons, and soldiers are also being smuggled over the border, and Kurdish volunteers are now patrolling the area in a bid to stem the supplies.
The report, and many others like it, left many around the world wondering why, if the US is willing to carry out risky military operations deep within Syrian territory to allegedly "fight ISIS," the US and its allies don't commit to a much less riskier strategy of securing the Turkish-Syrian border within Turkey's territory itself - especially considering that the United States maintains an airbase, training camps, and intelligence outposts within Turkish territory and along the very border ISIS supply convoys are crossing over.

Ideally, NATO should have interdicted these supply convoys before they even crossed over into Syria - arresting the drivers and tracking those who filled the trucks back to their source and arresting them as well. Alternatively, the trucks should have been destroyed either at the border or at the very least, once they had entered into Syria and were clearly headed toward ISIS-occupied territory.

That none of this took place left many to draw conclusions that the impunity granted to this overt logistical network was intentional and implicated NATO directly in the feeding of the very ISIS terrorists it claimed to be "fighting."

Russia Steps In

Obviously, any nation truly interested in defeating ISIS would attack it at its very source - its supply lines. Military weaponry may have changed over the centuries, but military strategy, particularly identifying and severing an enemy's supply lines is a tried and true method of achieving victory in any conflict.

Russia, therefore, would find these convoys a natural target and would attempt to hit them as close to the Syrian-Turkish border as possible, to negate any chance the supplies would successfully reach ISIS' hands. Russian President Vladmir Putin noted, regarding the Azaz convoy in particular, that if the convoy was legitimately carrying aid, it would have been declared, and its activities made known to all nations operating military aircraft in the region.

The trucks hit in the recent airstrikes, just as they were during the DW investigation, were carrying concrete and steel, not "milk and diapers" as the West would lead audiences to believe. That the supplies were passing through a "rebel" controlled crossing means that the supplies were surely headed to "rebel" controlled territory - either Al Qaeda's Al Nusra Front in the west, or ISIS in the east.

Russian airstrikes insured that the supplies reached neither.

Strangling NATO's Terrorists at the Border

Russia's increased activity along the Syrian-Turkish border signifies the closing phases of the Syrian conflict. With Syrian and Kurdish forces holding the border east of the Euphrates, the Afrin-Jarabulus corridor is the only remaining conduit for supplies bound for terrorists in Syria to pass. Syrian forces have begun pushing east toward the Euphrates from Aleppo, and then will move north to the Syrian-Turkish border near Jarabulus. Approximately 90-100 km west near Afrin, Ad Dana, and Azaz, it appears Russia has begun cutting off terrorist supply lines right at the border. It is likely Syrian forces will arrive and secure this region as well.

For those that have criticized Russia's air campaign claiming conflicts can't be won from the air without a ground component, it should be clear by now that the Syrian Arab Army is that ground component, and has dealt ISIS and Al Qaeda its most spectacular defeats in the conflict.

When this corridor is closed and supplies cut off, ISIS, Nusra, and all associated NATO-backed factions will atrophy and die as the Syrian military restores order across the country. This may be why there has been a sudden "rush" by the West to move assets into the region, the impetus driving the United States to place special forces into Syrian territory itself, and for Turkey's ambush of a Russian Su-24 near the Syrian-Turkish border.

What all of this adds up to is a clear illustration of precisely why the Syrian conflict was never truly a "civil war." The summation of support for militants fighting against the Syrian government and people, has come from beyond Syria's borders. With that support being cut off and the prospect of these militants being eradicated, the true sponsors behind this conflict are moving more directly and overtly to salvage their failed conspiracy against the Syrian state.

What we see emerging is what was suspected and even obvious all along - a proxy war started by, and fought for Western hegemonic ambitions in the region, intentionally feeding the forces of extremism, not fighting them.

It's not that simple:

"In a follow up study, in which Dr Busby was a co-author, hair, soil and water samples were taken from Fallujah and tested for the presence of heavy metals. The researchers expected to find depleted uranium in the environmental samples. It is well known that the US used depleted uranium weapons in Iraq during the 1991 Gulf war; and Iraqis, at least, are well aware of the increases in cancers and infant mortality rates in the city of Basrah, which was heavily bombarded during Desert Storm. However, what the researchers found was not depleted uranium, but man-made, slightly enriched uranium."

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/oct/25/fallujah-iraq-healt...

"Whilst the results seem to qualitatively support the existence of serious mutation-related health effects in Fallujah, owing to the structural problems associated with surveys of this kind, care should be exercised in interpreting the findings quantitatively. "

"Finally, the results reported here do not throw any light upon the identity of the agent(s) causing the increased levels of illness and although we have drawn attention to the use of depleted uranium as one potential relevant exposure, there may be other possibilities and we see the current study as investigating the anecdotal evidence of increases in cancer and infant mortality in Fallujah."

http://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/7/7/2828/htm

It is possible that there may be a synergistic effect involving heavy metals in general (i.e., Pb, U, Hg)

Depleted uranium is most certainly man-made and most definitely slightly enriched compared to samples naturally occuring in Earth's crust (are there any other sources of Uranium next to Fallujah, reactors maybe? LOL), seems that article tries somewhat to spin the effects of DU despite otherwise overwhelming evidence. Whenever incendiary rounds burn they spray shit all around along with other metals for sure, the resulting stuff is inhaled and gets into bloodstream otherwise, so of course that along with uranium you could find all sorts of shit in lungs, liver etc.

"Depleted uranium is most certainly man-made and most definitely slightly enriched compared to samples naturally occuring in Earth's crust"

This is wrong. The concentration of U235 in natural uranium is .72%. Most depleted uranium is around .4% or less.

Whether you believe it or  not, this is from Wikipedia: "The military specifications designate that the DU used by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contain less than 0.3% 235U (AEPI, 1995). In actuality, DoD uses only DU that contains approximately 0.2% 235U (AEPI, 1995)."

You can buy yellowcake with natural uranium at:

http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=87&produ...

Notice that there is no hazmat fee for shipment. Occasionally, they have depleted uranium metal available.

As far as I know, the only naturally occurring uranium that was slightly less than .72% U235 was found at the Oklo mine, where it is hypothesized that a naturally occurring chain reaction reduced the U235 content.

Can provide a link to the original source of the "overwhelming evidence" that you cite?

Homeschooling offerings are commercially available online and in stores. The students are not limited by parents who are floundering trying to design the curriculum. Also, there are homeschooling networks and hybrid arrangements in which students meet in a classroom environment with peers for instruction by a professional teacher.

It is not a matter of moms playing school with no direction.

Ask any teacher and you will hear that parental involvement is a major positive component in education.

Right. Talking about why our government didn't destroy oil fields, when the entire world is really asking why it didn't destroy any of the oil trucks transporting the oil, is a red herring. And if our government actually gave two fucks about the environment in Syria, it could easily have bombed the empty oil trucks returning from Turkey to Syria to be refilled. Obviously, we didn't want to defund ISIS.

How about someone in our government actually speaking the truth for once? Anyone with a couple dozen functioning brain cells already knows what's really going on. U.S. policy has been to use Islamic terror groups to fight against Assad's Syrian government. So we allow them to be armed and funded so they can fight Assad and his forces. This makes our supposed war against ISIS a complete charade.

Cute humor, but don't you find it odd that the ONLY solution is to bomb facilities into dust?  Facilities that cost millions and millions in order to construct and years to accomplish?

There are certain military organizations that live for this opportunity.  Surgical strikes to maintain the integrity of the resource to be captured and expand the influence from there.  (That means takes two or three facilities and expand from there).  THEN KEEP THEM!!!!!!

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, our only option is to spend 10s of millions bombing shit and then probably rebuilding later to win hearts and minds.

I think the psychopaths don't give a shit. Remember the scale of MONEY and CONTROL at stake. If you want to disable an insubordinate regime for standing up to your plans for regional hegemony and energy supply, you punish the host population by taking out key infrastructure. So for starters, place the launch triggers for all the drone strikes and aircraft sorties in the hands of obedient lackies who follow orders without giving a shit, assemble a list of strategic targets, and then announce "Aha!  ISIS happens to be standing directly in front of this strategically-important piece of infrastructure" (bridge, refinery, storage tank, whatever), and then press the button. Proxy war is simply the policy of blaming somebody else for your own rotten behaviour. If the Syrian people are displaced, so much the better, because mass migration conveniently handicaps the economies of nations in Europe that might get in the way of continued button-pushing.

It's fucking evil, from start to finish.  There was a time when it was a compliment to be called a Company Man, but nowadays it just means you're a pathological liar and a whore and a louse.

Look at those greedy fools on Black Friday acting like demented idiots trying to get the handful of discounted big screen TVs - Obviously these people need to be restrained - or rebred so that they are more brown skinned. They also need to be dumbed down even more. Too many radical types are actually starting to disbelieve the Government and think for themselves. This trend must be stopped. That's been the plan of Ivy league Jewish intellectuals since the 1930s. Idiocrasy is our future. We're on track  -the only problem with the movie is the timeline  -I don't think it will take 500 years. Another major world war or so will expedite the process. We haven't had an honest war since WWII.  I'm well aware of why we waste so much money bombing things.  Americans condone it and it promotes the PAC donation cycle where Uncle fraud has to spend taxpayers money before it can come back in the form of campaign donations.

Americans have been brainwashed into believing its our global role to run around spanking the world whenever a media story pops up suggesting intervention.  As long as the cost is socialized they equate that to a strong america and strong defense.

Zero. That’s how much credence readers should give this article as far as the assertion that Israel  knowingly bought ISIS oil. Why? Because ZH previously made it clear that KURDish oil was being bought and sold illegally (illegal according to Bahgdad) and this was in such a large quantity that the relatively small amount of ISIS oil mixed in became ‘invisible’. ZH stated “"the quantities of crude oil that are being exported to the terminal in Ceyhan exceed the mark of one million barrels per day and given that ISIS has never been able to trade daily more than 45,000 barrels of oil, it becomes evident that the detection of similar quantities of smuggled crude cannot take place through stock-accounting methods." In other words, if ISIS oil was being shipped from Ceyhan, it would essentially be invisible.” In that post there were multiple references to this KURDish oil. Hmmm…interesting that those references totally DISAPPEARED in this current article, while references to ISIS oil remain. Why do you suppose THAT is?! Could it be that ZH has an anti-semitic/anti-Zionist agenda? And that it intentionally morphed the facts to fit their agenda? Just asking the obvious question. That first article ‘ISIS Oil Trade Full Frontal…’ contains the words referring to Kurdish oil (Kurd, KRG, Kurdistan, Erbil, etc) over FIFTY TIMES. Other than a reference to a previous article, this current article contains words referring to this Kurdish oil exactly ZERO times. Hey Tylers- remember the ZeroHedge Manifesto??- “to liberate oppressed knowledge”. Based on this article it appears that the liberators are flirting with the idea of becoming the oppressors! As for me, I’m sticking with another ZH manifesto point: “to skeptically examine and, where necessary, attack the flaccid institution that financial journalism has become.”

Yes I get that. But the post DID try to make that Very tentative link to Israel by calling them out by name and called other nation-buyers ''other international buyers''. And insinuated that it was intentional. First, Im sure you mean trucks,-oil tankers are ships used for transport on the seas. Bombing those would be a real environmental disaster. Those trucks go to the same port and are mixed with huge quantities of Kurd oil, the sale of which help go to support the fight AGAINST The Islamic State. Second, there are FIFTEEN mentions of ISIS in this post in connection with the very same oil mentioned in the previous post. ZERO in relation to the Kurd oil. And that even though the volume of the Kurd oil dwarfs the ISIS oil. C'mon now...

I have no idea what's going on and I don't believe most of what I read. The argument that the vslidity of Tyler's article should be judged by word count is not persuasive for me. All Israeli-neocon actions and thinking are driven by the need to keep attention off of 9/11.  When the public realizes that 9/11 was a false flag operation done by our own government, our neocons, with the help of the Israelis, I think a lot of people are going to be hung.

I agree, the Red Jello supporters are dumb too.

They're all stuck in the 50s. I mean this dude is literally Crispin Glover's character in Back to the Future, only a murdering psychopath.

He's stuck in a time when authority had carte blanche, a time where you could still piss on the proles and they'd be thankful for the hydration.

Charlie Rose should be strung up right next to him, in the end.
