Paul Craig Roberts Rages At The "Arrogance, Hubris, & Stupidity" Of The US Government

Tyler Durden's picture

On the heels of the Chinese stock market plunging 5.5%, continued turmoil in the Middle East and the price of gold hitting 5 year lows, former U.S. Treasury official, Dr. Paul Craig Roberts told Eric King of King World News that Putin and the Russians are now dominating in Syria and the Middle East as the West destroys itself.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts:  “It could well be that this is going to work out so much in Russia’s favor that Putin will send a letter of thanks to the Turkish President and say, ‘Thank you very much.  You’ve done us a huge favor. (Laughter).  We lost a pilot and a naval marine but we sure have gained a lot.  That was only two deaths for winning a war.”…

“So that looks to me like the most likely outcome.  The unintended consequence of this are so positive for Russia that it’s got Washington quaking and Europe wondering about the idiocy of being in NATO.”

Eric King:  “What I’m hearing from you Russia is dominating in Syria.  The Russians have completely taken over and there’s really nothing Washington can do.”

Paul Craig Roberts:  “No, except make a fool of itself by supporting ISIS.  We brought ISIS in there (to Syria) — everybody knows that.  Just the other day the former head the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency said on television that ‘Yes, we created ISIS and we used them as henchmen to overthrow governments.’ (Laughter).

And the polls in Europe show that the people are on Russia’s side regarding the shooting down of their aircraft.  They don’t believe (the West’s) story at all.  So I think what you are seeing here is the arrogance, hubris, and stupidity of the United States government.  They are just handing every possible advantage over to the Russians.

This American government is the most incompetent government that has ever walked the earth.  Those people don’t have any sense at all.  Just look at what they’ve done.  In 14 years they’ve destroyed 7 countries, killed millions of people, and displaced millions of people.  And where are those displaced people?  They are overrunning Europe.

This is all because those Europeans were stupid enough to enable our wars.  Now the political parties in Europe are under tremendous pressure from these refugees and the populations who object to them, and from the rising dissident parties who are saying, ‘Look at what these people who you trusted have done.  They’ve changed your country.  It’s not Germany anymore — it’s Syria.’ (Laughter).

This is a disaster.  Only the stupid Americans could have produced such a disaster.  Does Putin need to do anything?  We’re doing it all for him.  So he doesn’t need to do anything.  He’s not going to attack anybody.  What does he need to attack anybody for?  The idiot Americans are destroying themselves and their allies.  This is an amazing fiasco.”

And On Gold... Massive Government Corruption

Eric King:  “Dr. Roberts, people are worried about World War III breaking out and yet we have the price of gold today hitting 5 1/2 year lows.  So I guess even though Washington has lost control in the Middle East, they still feel like they have to keep up appearances.”

Paul Craig Roberts:  “Gold didn’t hit a low, it was artificially driven down by the bullion banks, who are agents of the Federal Reserve and acting on the Fed’s orders.  This is the way the Fed protects the dollar from losing value.  This has been going on in earnest since the fall of 2011.  We see the appearance at the most odd times of day and night, for no reason whatsoever, of massive short sale of paper contracts that cause the price of gold to move straight down.”

Eric King:  “We saw that today in the gold market with roughly $2 billion of paper gold being sold into the market almost instantaneously.”

Paul Craig Roberts: But it doesn’t mean anything about the value of gold.  It simply means that the Federal Reserve and the bullion banks have manipulated the market.  So that’s what’s going on.  This is the worst kind of criminality and the worst kind of corruption.  I, myself, wrote to the Commodity Futures Trading  Commission and asked them why they permitted this?  This is a violation of the law.  But nothing can be done because it’s the government that’s doing it and the government is not going to prosecute itself.

So never say gold hit a new low because it didn’t.  It got driven down artificially by a corrupt government..."

When they get that old two things happen:

1.  They are trying to atone for being part of it in the first place.

2.  They're just too old to give a shit about keeping up the lie any more.

There's been a LONG line of "tough guys" speaking truth the last few years.  Long after they're no longer in a position to do anything about it any more.  Their late-in-life admonitions mean nothing.  Worse than nothing, actually.  They're positively insulting.

Such little faith in humanity. There are cases where individuals have learned something later in life that wasn't made available to them in the past. In many cases these will be your best advocates due to personal experience with both sides of the coin. With a direct relationship with historical times. And what's wrong with atoning for a mistake? And if someone is too old to keep up the lie-well, I guess they're too old. Take it easy NoDebt, maybe older people like me consider some of the rantings of the "too young" to be worse than nothing. Hey, your anger is good if you guide it towards knowledge.

What are you talking about?

Paul Craig Roberts talking about this his entire life.  Before discrediting him, the least you can do is do a quick check.

ALL FROM THIS PAGE:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Craig_Roberts

"From early 1981 to January 1982, Roberts served as assistant secretary of the treasury for economic policy. President Ronald Reagan and Treasury Secretary Donald Regan credited him with a major role in the Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981, and he was awarded the Treasury "Department’s Meritorious Service Award for “outstanding contributions to the formulation of United States economic policy.”[4]

"Roberts resigned in January 1982 to become the first occupant of the William E. Simon Chair for Economic Policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, then part of Georgetown University.[9] He held this position until 1993. He went on to write The Supply-Side Revolution (1984), in which he explained the reformulation of macroeconomic theory and policy, which he had helped to develop.

"Roberts opposed the Iraq War and wrote frequently on the subject. On May 18, 2005, in response to the publication of the “Downing Street memo,” Roberts wrote an article calling for Bush’s impeachment for allegedly misleading Congress about the case for war."

"Roberts has criticized actions by the Israeli government in the 21st century. He cautions against confusing opinions about a right-wing Zionist government with support of world Jewry. In one of his columns, “What Became of Western Morality?” (January 2005)."

"In The New Color Line (1995), Roberts argued that the Civil Rights Act was subverted by the bureaucrats who applied it. He thought it was being used to create status-based privileges and threatened the equality of the Fourteenth Amendment in whose name it was passed. In The Tyranny of Good Intentions (2000), Roberts documented what he saw as the erosion of the Blackstonian legal principles that ensure that law is a shield of the innocent and not a weapon in the hands of government."

You are filled with indignation at the older guys.  That is exactly what your enemy wants.  He wants to divide people against themselves - they are more easily controlled that way.  Oldsters can bring a lot to the table - their experience in dealing with the corruption of governmetn and the MIC, the insights gained over the decades, seasoned judgement and resolve.  Perhaps it makes you somehow feel better saying these things and pointing blame at an easy target, but you must understand that you are being played.   Rather than write them off as totally ineffective, try embracing them as part of the team to overcome this insidious entity.  Oldsters like you describe are not your enemy - for your real enemy, look towards those who are the masters of deceit and subterfuge - always look towards Zion.

When the Russian cavalry return to Berlin on their way to Paris, they'll be greeted as liberators by the German people. No Christian European in his right mind will want to be last to die for the EU.

Given a real choice in a free election, peoples in every quarter of Europe will choose leaders willing to take their side in disputes, not the side of Wall Street and the House of Saud, and with a mandate to secure borders, restore the right of the people to issue money, expel the local Muslim fifth column, and bring local banksters to justice.

None of this is likely to happen until the Russian cavalry arrives. The only places on earth where elections free of bankster interference happen are areas newly liberated by the Russian army.

Faster please, Vladimir Vladimirovich.

Although I hope he's right about this being a mistake of the US regime, a part of me has this nagging feeling that the Xio-Anglo alliance is baiting Russia into taking the military hook deeper, to make Syria their regime-ending Afghanistan II.

Russia must ensure that the combined Syrian, Hezbollah and Iranian ground forces mop up all Jihadists, and do it in a timely manner.

It has to be a major set-up risk, presumably Putin can see it.

did you just invent a word? "Xio-Anglo Alliance"? you leave me undecided if you mean Zion or China. both Israel and China have their interests in Syria

meanwhile... the world is changing, again

did you notice that it's a Franco-Russian military cooperation (with German assistence) being set up in regard to Syria?

and did you notice that Israel just threw the EU out of their "peace process"? because of a product labeling issue?

this while the UK is cozying up with... China? to the point that it's China that is going to build nuclear plants in Britain?

(smacker, I am starting to wonder if you will really vote for BreXit, when it comes to the referendum)

"Xio-Anglo Alliance" is a term that Kirk used, not me.

Yes, I'm aware of the French-Russian co-operation in Syria but I'm not sure how serious it is from a French point of view, given that this news article is doing the rounds: "US and Turkey cease flights in Syria".

Am I to believe that the French will continue to bomb "somebody" without the same risks as the US & Turkey? And what about Cameron who wants to join in the bombing. Will he take the risk that US & Turkey won't take or will he join them and ground his bombers?

As you know from previous comments, I am torn between believing that the EU is a pantomime which needs to be dissolved, and the British system of government which is also a pantomime and needs to be replaced with a proper political system that is accountable to the British people.

Russians have technology to bypass the anti-ballistic missiles.

Russian officials said the revelation of the submarine, which has not yet been produced, was accidental. But it came to light in the Russian news media in a way that suggested that the Kremlin wanted the West to know.

Such a submarine design had been conceived decades ago, independent Russian military commentators said, but it had not been revealed until now. It would function as a long-range torpedo and would avoid missile defenses by traveling under the ocean’s surface.

You need a state to opposse the other teams socio/psycho..paths.

It's ALWAYS been that way and it will ALWAYS be that way.

I am myself a libertarian but in the modern world people simply can't possibly forsee all the possible avenues for attack that might come at them from outside forces.

Supposse tomorrow we converted to a fully libertarian free range democracy?

Well that sounds nice however individual liberties are NOT protected by majority rule and have NEVER been so protected.  The only thing resembling protection for said societies that has ever worked is a constitutional republic.

I'm not saying it won't tend to work out like it has for us it will always tend to work out like this.  I'm saying that the answer to self rule requires the full force of a state to protect it and nothing will change that as long as we live on an earth with governments that can and will seek to extend their spheres of control.

Those high up in the US and European governments must have been promised handsome rewards if they would sell out their countries, their way of life and their children and grandchildren in exchange for being promised a piece of action in the Totalitarian World Government Paradigm.  They are all traitors and should be revealed as such.  But they just keep plowing ahead with nonsense like Climate Change and myriad other things to keep us upset and out of step, day after day, thereby increasing their chances of accomplishing that which they seek to achieve.  Nothing phases them or the markets they control and manipulate each day.

How ironic that Putin of all people may be the one to save the West and capitalism itself.  How ironic that he may be the one to save us from our own corrupt and maniacal government.  How ironic that he may be the one to save us from ourselves.

Yes, Paul Craig Roberts has been a vocal opponent of the cabal running washington dc, being formerly a part of the administration in that cabal.

Some say he is a good example of the old guy who suddenly becomes vocal, having absolutely no influence to change anything.

Where was Mr. Roberts when the Chicago School and the Nixon/Bush clan were ransacking the earth?

Lets take a look at his wikipedia entry:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Craig_Roberts#Early_life

He is an educated man, but he was an advisor, and one with a very specialized area of influence within administrations. Contrast this with a more broad area of influence as in Henry Kissinger.

Now, just glance over Paul Craig Roberts accomplishments, published work and sphere of influence.  Can any of you here at Zero Hedge boast of such accomplishments, and if so kindly use your actual name here at ZH?

If not, then lets at least have a measured and thoughtfull debate at how to reverse course in this "civilization". I would add that each day we consider, to decide, within ourselves how to better the world around us.

"those Europeans were stupid enough to enable our wars"

I would not be surprised if the Paris attacks were an attempted US manipulation to get France into Syria because what is 130 or so innocent civilians. Then you have Cameron in the UK, exactly the same, with the politicians believing throwing more bombs at Syria will solve the problem because thats what they want us to believe.

In all of this though he misses one clear point and is far more ominous than Russia / China gaining in ascendency, many of those who used to support the US are falling away realising they are creating the issues intentionally to fuel their greed and world manipulation.

As for gold ETF's try this. China and Russia now both issue gold ETF's based on their gold holdings like another currency backed by revealing in pictures exactly how much gold they have to know it is based on a real value. Then watch the red faced US run round trying to find their gold to back up their gold ETF's. What for the US issued gold ETF's then when you can buy Chinese / Russia ETF's and know you are getting something that actually may be backed by a little more than a 1 in 250 chance of getting it.

"[...] with the politicians believing throwing more bombs at Syria will solve the problem [...]"

I've heard more than one informed observer say that the Western & Russian coalitions in Syria are running out of targets to bomb, so I have to question WTF Cameron thinks he's going to do there.

I assume they mean running out of "physical object targets" like heavy artillery, Toyotas, tanks and large accumulations of nutty ISIS warriors. Meaning that the only solution left is boots on the ground to wipe out these ISIS warriors. Therein lies a major problem for the coalitions since they will never agree "who" must be wiped out.

You leave it and leave it, it will eventually eat you alive.

I agree and think Its been quite apparent for sometime now.  Great piece, He's Right!  PCR is really growing on me, honesty these days is a rare and beautiful thing.  The manipulation of gold has gone beyond anything that should be allowed in a free country.   We need to fight back against the crooks that have become our government, if they start a war, we have to remember to go after Uncle Sham this time, our government has become the enemy and our forefathers said the only way to bring this country down is from within, AND ITS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!  SCUM CONTROLS US.

Another interesting article on Turkey from Russian sources.

Putin can legitimately deprive Turkey of 30% of its territories (Map)

"The Treaty of Moscow (1921) — Russian-Turkish Treaty of "friendship and brotherhood", signed on 16 March 1921 in Moscow between the government of the Grand national Assembly of Turkey and the government of the RSFSR. In accordance with the agreement of the Armenian cities of Kars and Ardahan Turkey have departed. Mount Ararat was also in Turkey.

According to the Agreement, Russia extends it every 25 years, and now is just the date the next Contract is signed, Russia may not do it legally. In this case, Turkey will be forced to return the vast territory."

Map showing the territory in question:

My personal opinion is that Obama (whoever he is and whoever he represents) is using the fire hose approach. That is: if the bad actors crave water, then he rams a fire hose down their their throat until their drown.

In this case it is corruption and money creation. The banks have never been able to control their greed and lust for power. They use money creation and distribution to satisfy their lust. Obama has not only supported the greed and corruption, he has increased it ten-fold and now the banks and those associated with them are drowning in their greed and corruption. It is possiblee that they will die from it, especially if they do not learn to control their lusts and turn themselves 180 degrees to be servants of others instead of themselves.

_IF_ it's true that gold is being artificially supressed (for which there seems a compelling case but is far from certain) it could be the opportunity of a generation for those w/investible cashflow & no short to mid-term need for liquidity.  wait a minute, that's ME!!!  so far I've stuck to ag (the only au I own is on my left hand) & have only look at it as insurance vs investment but if the fed is futilly trying to keep a dam from bursting that will spike the value of my stash at some point down the road I certainly won't be complaining...  problem is the social circumstances likely to accompany such a dam burst are likely to make it somewhat analagous to trying to collect a winning bet on the end of the world.

As always we need to use reason when disseminating information. It all starts with the idea that a lone gunmen killed the President of the US in 1963.

Since 1963 we have had one goat herder after another, each towing the line for those at the top.

JFK signed Executive Order 11110, taking away the printing of US money from the Fed. (Those who control the fed have a history of killing those who get in their way of making money). 5 months after Kennedy signed the EX he was dead, and his replacement had the US currency DESTROYED!

Of course we can’t go to the course, Lee H Oswald was himself of course killed in a room full of police.

The great tragedy in this is that Americans let them get away with it.

It should be stated from the start that the US government and the citizens of the US are NOT one in the same. The US government is on its own trajectory, totally devoid of the limitations of considering the welfare of the people it is supposed to serve.

To some it is a mystery as to why the US government does what it does, I mean what has it done to mirror the priorities of the American people? Far more often is the case, of its the tail wagging the dog: The US government wants to attack Syria, so it starts to whip up the war PR to get the American people on board. What do Americans care about Syria?

This is all rather mysterious unless you put a different priority at the top of America’s leadership, Zionists.

If you work or visit DC you know what I am talking about, the “think tanks”, the institutes, actions committees, the lobbyists, have a profoundly Hebrew stance to them. This is like the 14,000,000,000,000.00 lb gorilla in the room, everyone knows its true, but the media, Hollywood, political institutions use politically correct dogma to silence it.

Given the state-of-play in global cyberspace it is not inconceivable that any one of the bureaucratic legion from anywhere could apply a few keystrokes to my online "records" and suddenly my life becomes a living hell because another bureaucrat's "jurisdiction" has been alerted to a potential threat. I'm wondering how deeply interlocked NSA, IRS and Homeland Security are. I despise what I & millions of my fellow-citizens have allowed to happen to our Constitutional U.S government. No man is an island.

Our founding fathers didn't give us a libertarian world they gave us a republic and the libertarians of the bunch fought for and got the bill of rights.

You can't just expect in today's world to have an informal confederation of free people take on something like China it's impossible.

We'd be free range sitting ducks for whatever global manipulation they were up to and saying anything else is being woefully ignorant of how the world has always worked.

Anyone who's run a buisness knows that it doesn't matter nearly as much how you want the world to be as much as it matters how it IS.

Just because our leadership has vacataed it's sworn duty does not make the foundations of it improper it's that our system has been caputured through our own inattentnions because our individuality is both a blessing and a curse.

The UNITED part of our name is the part that protects us, the fact that others have skillfully chipped away and contorted that part to their own devious plans has nothing at all to do with what works best in the real world.

Once the American people went over the falls thinking we were special and exceptional and stopped questioning those in power and more importantly FORGOT that power corrupts and that the price of freedom now and forever is vigiliance in defense of it, then we all went over in the same barrell and that's OUR problem not our foundations.

We started believing that our side, whatever that side was, was the good side when in reality, there is only truth, justice and the American way and the WAY is the point, not whoever is running for office with your particular team colors.

If OUR guy or woman violates the way then WE being the team members ARE suppossed to be the ones who tell them to step aside but instead what we have become is two camps evenly divided and easily conquered not because we have failed to become idividuals it would be hard to argue that in history of the world their has been a society more concerned with the I than ours see IPHONES and IPODS and I this and I that.

Nope it's that we forgot how to be a WE THE PEOPLE.

That's our problem.

Interesting argument...I'll give you that.  Though it wasn't exaclty clear to me how the "individuality" was a curse by what you wrote.  It would seem that in the end you are calling for more individuality and for people to stop seeing themselves as part of a "party" of politicial ideology (the divide and conquer theme).  Should we stand as united individuals?  I don't see why that's impossible as I've argued for years that we've allowed others to ill define "self-interest" claiming it creates all ills when in reality "self interest" (for the great majority) IS to have strong and peaceful communities surrounding us.  Nothing's a perfect balance of course...so we have to choose to be free while choosing the least worst options every day in our lives.
