Meanwhile In Kosovo's Parliament...
While Americans are used to tears (and jeers) in The Capitol as politicians go about their 'business', none of that compares to the behavior of lawmakers in Kosovo this morning.
As The Irish Times reports, three opposition lawmakers were arrested in Kosovo on Monday amid chaotic scenes in parliament, filled once more with tear gas in a fresh protest against an accord with former master Serbia.
Opposition MPs have been disrupting the work of parliament for two months by releasing tear gas in the chamber each time it tries to sit.
They are demanding the government revoke a deal, brokered by the European Union, to grant minority Serbs greater local powers and the possibility of funding from Belgrade. They also oppose a border demarcation deal with Montenegro.
Opposition supporters have rioted several times on the streets of the capital, Pristina, heightening the sense of a young country in crisis almost eight years since it declared independence from Serbia.

Government lawmakers met alone in the afternoon after the earlier disruptions, which, as AP reports, garnered the following response from the locked-out opposition...
"In a country with no opposition in the parliament, there is no parliament and it cannot be called a democracy," said main opposition Self-Determination Movement lawmaker Aida Derguti.
In a statement, the European Union called for a return to dialogue in Kosovo.
"This kind of violent obstruction is neither acceptable nor will it solve any problem for the citizens of Kosovo," it said.

Don't worry though - As US Secretary of State John Kerry is due to visit Kosovo on Wednesday in a gesture of support for its development as an independent state, 16 years after a U.S.-led Nato air war to halt the killing and expulsion of ethnic Albanians by Serbian forces. After the war the UN and many other investigating agencies could find no evidence of genocide or massacres. Every time the sides came together to work out a solution the US behind the scenes gummed up the works as their goal was the breakup of Yugoslavia from the very beginning of hostilities which many believe the US started.

Kosovo has the massive Trepica mine complex which has been in use since Roman times. Also the KLA was most compliant in trafficking of narcotics, organs, and other nasties. The fact that Kosovo has been part of Serbia for centuries is lost on our uneducated, ill-read, scheming leaders.

This idea that one needs churches and stone buildings to convince others that they are natives to that land is the kind of 'logic' is often thrown out there by many Serbs. If we go by that logic then, the natives of Canada and North America cannot lay claim to those lands because they didn't build anything extravagant as evidence that they are from that region.
In a recent interview Serbia's president Tomislav Nikolic said that there is no sign in Kosovo that there were any Albanians there prior to 50 years ago. I repeat prior to 50 years ago. That is going back to 1965. So according to Nikolic, sometime after 1965, 2 million Albanian's suddenly entered Kosovo, even though there is not a single mention of such an event. Furthermore, if 2 million Albanians suddenly, entered Kosovo, wouldn't such a huge shift in population reflect on the next census in Albania proper? I am just saying this, because such stupid lies can only be sold to the Serbs and they do not fool anybody else.
Looking at history, In 380, Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius decreed that his subjects would be Christians according to the First Council of Nicea formula. Among old Christian heritage is the Archbishopric of Justiniana Prima. It had the whole of present day Serbia (geographical new term- country did not existed then) under its jurisdiction, and was formed in 535 AD. However, the Archbishopric did not last, as the Slavs and Avar invasions destroyed it sometime after 602, when the last mention is made of it.
Monastery of Gracanica (build on 6 century) and Hilandar (8 century but was given as a gift to Serbs in 12 century) the pearls of Christian heritage ARE NOT Serbian since they were build before the Serbs came in to Balkans through famous Slavic migrations in 7 century!
Serbs only rebuild few during the tsar Dusan rule, when he occupied the land including Greece. (at that time Byzantium was in chaos so he took the chance to occupy and claim it his.)
Serbs can really claim only the ZICA area as their mediaval heritage. In 1208, Saint Sava establishes the Archbishopric of Ži?a. In 1219 it becomes part of the autocephalous Serbian Orthodox Church.
Gracanica monastery and Hilandar were build when there was no Serbs in Balkan/Illyria, Byzantium, so how can Serbs claim something as theirs when their Christianity and church starts in 1219 other than by occupation?

Albanian population was always the majority in Kosovo throughout history, wherever reliable historical records exists they always show a clear Albanian majority.
It is rather sad how a lot of Serbian commenters in various news websites try so very hard to draw parallels between Kosovo Albanians and Islam. However when one looks at the reality, Muslim countries (more often than not) align themselves with Serbia on the global stage. Take for example the recent vote at UNESCO on a bid for Kosovo's membership. Countries such as Lebanon, Iran, Syria and Palestine voted on the side of Serbia whereas countries like Iceland, Norway, Germany, Italy, France, UK, Australia and many other western countries voted on the side of Kosovo.
Another distinction that I think is important to make is the fact that the 2004 riots were against Serbia and not against Christianity. Today, in the heart of Prishtina, you have the biggest Catholic cathedral in the Balkans few hundred meters from the city's mosque. If Albanian's were against Christianity, as you are trying to portray so hard, then wouldn't they have burnt this cathedral?
While I do not condone what happened in 2004, the main reason why Serbian churches were targets of these rioters, was not actually because they were churches, but merely because of their complicit role in the 1999 war. No Serbian religious leader came out during the war and called upon their government to stop the killing and expulsion of almost 1 million Albanians from their ancestral lands. For example, there was no conflict between Albanians and Serbs pretty much before the late 17th century, when it was instrumented by Ottomans. Some Albanian national heroes are regarded as heroes by Serbs, too - to this date. For example George Castriot (Skenderbeg).
There was no conflict between Croats and Serbs before WWII - when it was instrumented by nazis. Even then it was one third of Croat nazi collaborators agains Serbs and other two thirds of Croats.
Balkan does have a history of conflict, but most of the time it was conflict between major powers in which local populace had no say and were mere victims.
Had the US not intervened, we would have a second Palestine in the balkans today with more than 1 million albanian refugees in neighboring albania and macedonia. Serb army had driven out of Kosovo all its population, the history is so recent, do some research. Kosovo intervention is probably the most successful and morally right one by the US.

I believed that talk about the Serbs. Until I did a lot of detailed research, including work in the field. Essentially the Serbs were no worse than any of the other ex-Yugoslavians (I'm excluding Slovenes here). The anti-Serb propaganda and then warfare was a surrogate continuation of the war against Russia.

Kosovo is the exemplar par excellence of demographic warfare. The former Serb/Christian majority found itself a minority within a few generations as a result of massive Albanian/Muslim immigration and the latter's vastly higher birthrate.
