Russia Sends NATO A Clear Message By Arming Fighter Jets With First Air-To-Air Missles

Tyler Durden's picture

A month ago, US and Russian military officials signed a memorandum of understanding that included steps their pilots should take to avoid an inadvertent clash over Syria as they carry out separate air strikes against armed groups. That MoU has now been shredded, as it certainly did not involve Russian fighter jets operating above Syria being armed with short and medium range air-to-air missiles as a direct threat to other fighter jets also operating above Syria - mostly those of Turkey, France and the US.

Which is precisely what Russia has done as disclosed in an announcement moments ago by the Russian defense ministry, and furthermore, has released a clip as a warning to not only Turkey, but all NATO forces in the region, that any further provocations at its jets will be met with an immediate and proportional response.

Igor Klimov, spokesman for the Russian Air Force, said that "today, Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers have made their first sortie equipped not only with high explosive aviation bombs and hollow charge bombs, but also with short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles The planes are equipped with missiles for defensive purposes."

"The missiles have target-seeking devices and are capable of hitting air targets within a 60km radius."

And the video that was released to commemorate the warning to the "anti-ISIS" alliance:

Just read "The Sleepwalkers" bij Christopher Clark. Tries to explain how it just took 37 days for Europe to start WWI after Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. With emphasis on "how" and not "why", as the latter just results in fruitless blame-game. Creepily similar to current events.

The Russian fighter aircraft, not yet in the area, include the Mikoyan MiG-29 and MiG-31 aircraft as well as the Sukhoi SU-27, SU-30, and SU-35 aircraft. Of course we could send over the F-35 as soon as our pilots get their nails done and complete their LGBTQ seminars.

Saw Mike Flynn giving an interview with German media on carving up Syria like post WW2 Germany or the Balkans (Drina Valley anyone).

This is how policy starts.

Some "insider" makes an "honest" assessment to foreign media.

In two weeks it's talk in Washington.

Then Obomba heads to UN.

Money flows to regional actors to get in line - $3 billion to Turkey already.

Ass-clown FP.

Funny how the three most independent states in MENA got sacked over the last ten years - Iraq, Syria and Libya.

US still has to trade eastern Ukraine for Syria just to bring Russians to table.

Meanwhile Israel is bombing Syria (second time in two weeks).

At some point somebody important is going to take a hit and payback will be a bitch.

In other words, the one Russian fighter jet that got shot down was unarmed against an air to air attack? It was premeditated by Turkey and they know the rules of engagement and they likely knew the two Russian planes could not defend themselves in an air to air attack. Russia is right to be angry. The deal is almost sealed, the Erdogen syndicate is the face of the Daesh.

I talked to a friend last night mid-40ish) who said he's glad Putin (not Russia) got a black eye, 'cause he's a KGB "thug" from 30 something years ago. This means to this person I guess that he is incapable of anything positive.

Is he mad that Russia doesn't accomodate AmeriKa by bending over and grabbing their ankles on command? Or is it that Putin and his team make Barry and his team look like a bunch of indecisive, terrorist coddling pantywaists? He doesn't have to live there, and if the Russian people support Putin, WTF do they care? White knight faggots.

Russia is killing terrorist rabble in Syria and the guy got mad when I said I guess they don't support these skumbags as much as the likes of him, Turkey, KSA, israel, the United Snakes does...

The YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW EXACTLY what Putin and his bullshit is up to.

So in other words, the YOUNG PEOPLE see lie after lie after lie out of Putin and they see the truth in about 10 seconds via Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat etc... Putin looks like a lying douche to Americas YOUNG PEOPLE...

BTW. Police state? Maybe you've heard of this country. Its called Russia. AKA a "police state".

Waa waa NATO has no intrerest in surronding Russia. What NATO is interested in is telling Moscow you can't just waltz across borders, grab soverign territory and try and reassemble some fantastical idea of a "new Russia".  Yea the YOUNG PEOPLE of America have seen video after video of Assad dropping barrel bombs on civilians and then Putin rushing into wipe the ass of a war criminal (AKA a terrorist). Yea we see that. A lot. Provocatuion? Yea genius. Perhaps you would understand a Russian bomber flying within 40 miles off the coast of California as "provocation". Because thats what we see it as. Provocation? Here's a short list. The same list that the YOUNG PEOPLE of America see. --- * On 3 March 2014 a close encounter occurred between a SAS passenger plane taking off from Copenhagen and a Russian reconnaissance aircraft  *On 5 September 2014 an Estonian security service operative, Eston Kohver, was abducted by Russian agents from an Estonian border post *Between 17-27 October, 2014 a major submarine hunt by Swedish authorities was prompted by credible intelligence reports of “underwater activity” in the Stockholm archipelago in Swedish territorial waters.  *On 12 April 2014 an unarmed Russian fighter aircraft made 12 passes of the American warship the USS Cook in the Black Sea. Such aggressive behaviour, if repeated by an armed aircraft, could have resulted in the ship commander targeting the aircraft in an act of self-defence. *On April 23 2014 an armed Russian fighter undertook very threatening manoeuvres in the vicinity of an American reconnaissance aircraft in the Sea of Okhotsk.  *In June 2014 armed Russian aircraft approached the heavily populated Danish island of Bornholm before breaking off in what appears to have been a simulated attack. The Danish intelligence service described the incident as “of a more offensive character than observed in recent years.” *On 16 July 2014 an armed Russian aircraft intercepted a Swedish surveillance plane conducting operations between Gotland and Latvia in international airspace, and flew within 10 metres of the plane.  *In early September, 2014 Russian strategic bombers in the Labrador Sea near Canada practiced cruise missile strikes on the United States.  *On 7 September 2014 HMCS Toronto (a frigate) was buzzed by a Russian aircraft in the Black Sea, with the plane coming within 300 metres of the warship.  *On 17 September 2014 two Russian military aircraft crossed into Swedish air-space south of the island of Oland. The Russian Su-24 bombers intentionally violated Swedish airspace possibly to test the capabilities of the air defence system strengthened after previous incidents.  *On 19 September 2014 Russian officers detained a Lithuanian shipping vessel in international waters in the Barents Sea, subsequently towing it to Murmansk. This represented a clear escalation in Russian attempts at the provocation and intimidation of the Baltic States. *On 3 October 2014 a Russian fighter flew “within metres” of Swedish surveillance aircraft in the Baltic in an incident deemed “unusually provocative”.  *From 28-30 October 2014, Russia conducted a major air exercise in the North Sea, Atlantic, Black Sea and Baltic Sea. In a series of developments, aircraft from NATO states and partners tracked Russian long-range bombers conducting missions across this entire area, including a large formation of Russian fighters and bombers conducting missions over the Baltic Sea. *On 10 April 2014 two Russian Navy vessels involved in live missile firing exercises entered Lithuania’s Baltic maritime economic zone, causing serious disruption to shipping. *On 23 April 2014 a Russian aircraft entered Dutch airspace before being intercepted by Dutch fighter aircraft. *On 24 April 2014 RAF fighters intercepted and shadowed Russian aircraft over the North Sea. *On 28 April 2014, fighters with the Nato Baltic Air Policing force scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft. *On 9 May 2014 Russian aircraft approached to within 50 miles of the Californian coast, the closest such Russian military flight since the Cold War. *On 18 May 2014 RAF fighters intercepted a Russian helicopter and shadowed it back to its parent corvette in the Baltic Sea. *In late May, early June 2014 Russian aircraft carried out several incursions into the US and Canadian Air Defence Identification Zones in the Arctic. *On 12 June 2014, Nato fighters intercepted Russian aircraft in international airspace near Latvia. *On 19 June 2014; HMS Montrose, a British frigate, was sent to investigate a Russian corvette in international waters near Denmark’s Baltic coast. HMS Montrose was subsequently circled by Russian maritime patrol aircraft. *From 21 May to 13 August 2014, a series of short airspace violations by Russian aircraft were reported over the Estonian island of Vaindloo. *On 1 August, Polish fighters of the Nato Baltic air-policing mission intercepted Russian aircraft flying near Estonia airspace. *In early August 2014 several Russian air incursions were reported into the Alaskan Air Defence Identification Zone. *In August/September 2014, Russian naval and air units interfered with the operations of a Finnish research vessel on two separate occasions. *In late August, 2014, multiple breaches of Finnish air-space by Russian state aircraft were reported.  *On 11 September 2014, Canadian jets intercepted Russian aircraft. *Between the 17 and 18 September 2014, Russian jets entered the ADIZ off the coast of Alaska on two separate occasions, once on the evening of Wednesday 17th Sep and once on the morning of Thursday 18th Sep. The Russian planes were intercepted by American and Canadian fighters. These incidents coincide with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s visits to Ottawa and Washington. *On 29 September 2014, Latvian forces observed a Russian warship operating 14 miles from Latvian territorial waters; article observes that Russian jets and warships have been detected 173 times near Latvia’s borders as of September. *On 20 October 2014, planes from the Baltic Air Policing mission intercepted Russian surveillance Il-20 aircraft. On 21 October 2014 Baltic Air Policing planes (Portuguese F-16s) intercepted Russian Il-20 surveillance aircraft which entered Estonian airspace next to the island of Saarema *September 16, 2015, Japan scrambles jets after ‘Russian’ plane enters airspace. On and on... Putin is trying to start WW3 and if you can't handle that as a fact -- then somebody is paying you not to.

Because the memorandum of understanding between the USSA, NATO and Russia was supposed to be sufficient to protect USSA, NATO, Russia flights.

And so, Russia sent the bombers without defense against NATO airplanes, only terrorist equipment on the ground.

Since the USSA, NATO and Turkey violated that agreement, Russian aircraft now carry air-to-air weapons to prevent further atrocities of this kind.  The USSA, NATO and Turkey have demonstrated they have no honor or honesty whatsoever.

----

Israel: Russian Aircraft Breached Our Airspace

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon confirmed on Sunday that a Russian jet had breached Israeli airspace recently.

Ya'alon was asked about claims by a senior defense official that Russian jets had penetrated Israeli airspace, and whether the IDF had a policy for responding to such overflights in light of the recent downing of a Russian jet by Turkish warplanes last week.

"I remind you that about a year ago we shot down a Syrian SU-24 that penetrated into our territory, and we also shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle. When we understood that the Russians were planning to act inside Syria, we immediately met with Putin and created an open channel for coordination so as to prevent misunderstandings,

Ya'alon said that there had been one breach in which a Russian plane had entered about one mile into Israeli territory, after which the Russians were "immediately contacted" and the plane "immediately returned to Syrian territory."

Russia must have done this in the very beginning. And also the following :

Russia should consider Syria as it protectorate officially.

Enact no fly zone over Syria.

Fire heavily on so called moderate rebels & terrorists, moderate terrorists should not be given any advantage , actually they are the source of all problems, they take weapons from west and then pass these on to ISIS, ISIL etc.

No unauthorized ships in water of Syria.

No border violations

Fencing of the border.

DO NOT ALLOW ANY NATO FIGHTERS OR ANY HELP FROM WEST

They are only dropping moar weapons to (moderate) terrorists.

Sad that posts here at ZH have become afflicted by the GLP virus.

It contaminates slowly but surely where free debate and discussion thrive.

But lets get back to the facts.

Russia IS operating a no fly zone over all Syrian territory and beyond into Turk and Cypriot air space.

Given that the SS400 range is 200 miles,

Russian missiles have greater speed and reach than NATO equivalents,

They posses a variety of very advanced and rugged EM countermeasurs for  which NATO has no forseeable remedy and which are in full operation in Syria and the Ukraine border area - also 200 mile fixed diameter - system also mounted on jets and helicopters.

Russia will eventually seal the Syrian/Turk border and the Syrian ground forces may retake the entire country in weeks.

Any infringment of soverign Syrian airspace would be a violation of international law and Syria would be within its rights to respond.

US/NATO will continue to squeal like pigs but will never admit that for the time being, at least, Russia has NATO's testicles in its hands.

Anyone remember Hi Noon? do do do do do do do do do...
