Greeks Told To Declare Cash "Under The Mattress", Jewelry And Precious Stones

Tyler Durden's picture

When earlier today we read a report in the Greek Enikonomia, according to which Greek taxpayers would be forced to declare all cash "under the mattress" (including inside) or boxes that contain more than 15,000 euros as well as jewelry and precious stones (including gold) worth over 30,000 euros, starting in 2016, we assumed this has to be some early April fools joke or a mistake.

After all, this would be merely the first step toward full-blown asset confiscation, conducted so many times by insolvent governments throughout history, once the government cracks down on those who made a "mistake" in their asset declaration form or simply refuse to fill such a declaration, thereby making all their assets eligible for government confiscation.

It was not a joke.

Here is the take of Keep Talking Greece, whose stunned response mirrors ours.

Cash "under the mattress" totaling more than 15,000 euro, jewelry and other valuable items such as diamonds and gemstones, should be declared to electronic system of tax authorities, Taxisnet, as of 1 January 2016. Next to properties and vehicles and shares, now the taxpayers will also have to declare their deposits. And not only that. They will have to fill if they rent bank lockers and if yes, also the name of the bank and the branch, even if abroad.

A joint ministerial decision issued by the Ministries of Justice and Finance indicates that taxpayers in Greece should add all their valuables into a new category of the tax declaration, the “Assets declaration.”

Specifically, the decision provides that:

“Assets declarations” are submitted electronically and mandatory via Taxisnet.
Starting date for the submission is 1.1.2016

Declared must be cash money if more than 15,000 euro and precious items if their total value exceeds 30,000 euro. These amounts apply cumulatively per household (husband, wife, underage children).

To facilitate the completion of the declaration, data from the income statements (E1 and E9) will be drawn automatically.

Note that this Assets declaration process will initially apply to lawmakers, journalists, public servants etc and is the rehearsal for the creation of the electronic property & assets register that will be extended to all taxpayers.

The new assets declaration form has a total of 56 pages.

The decision has been taken “in the context of support and development of the economy,” the ministers state.

Some thoughts

First of all, the ministerial decision will certainly support and help to growth the noble profession of accountants.

How can a bride know the value of the jewelry her parents-in-law gave as a wedding gift?

If the retail price of X valuable item was 10,000 euro in 2005, what is the value today?

And what will happen if one will not declare his assets? The tax authorities will raid the home and search under the mattress to find grandma’s ring?

Are you kidding me, Greek Syriza state?

PS we should note that this assets declaration was in plan before SYRIZA came into power. Not sure about what minister promoted this, I vaguely reckon it was form New Democracy. Or most likely it was a Troika’s idea in order to grab the so-called ‘black money’ that starts with 15,001 euro in cash and diamonds worth 30,001 euro.

Coming soon -

“If you in fact had no gold, then your situation was hopeless. You would be beaten, burned, tortured, and steamed to the point of death or until they finally came to believe you. But if you had gold, you could determine the extent of your torture, the limits of your endurance, and your own fate. Psychologically, this situation was, incidentally, not easier but more difficult, because if you made an error you would always be ridden by a guilty conscience. Of course, anyone who had already mastered the rules of the institution would yield and give up his gold—that was easier. But it was a mistake to give it up too readily. They would refuse to believe you had coughed it all up, and they would continue to hold you. But you'd be wrong, too, to wait too long before yielding: you'd end up kicking the bucket or they'd paste a term on you out of meanness. One of the Tatar draymen endured all the tortures: he had no gold! They imprisoned his wife, too, and tortured her, but the Tatar stuck to his story: no gold! Then they arrested his daughter: the Tatar couldn't take it any more. He coughed up 100,000 rubles. At this point they let his family go, but slapped a prison term on him.”

Did the Belasting Dienst show up at your front door to verify the amount of cash on hand that you reported? I didn't think so. It is all bull shit. If no one complied with these ridiculous demands for information, you actually believe the government would dare to try to confiscate every citizen's property? That would be a pretext to civil war and revolution. And even if they confiscated everything with little or no resistance, what would they do for Act II? If the people have nothing, than can't consume or produce anything. Kiss the economy good bye.

FYI, in 2014 i sold something for cash, kept a bit in cash and put the rest (€900) in my bank account. That kind of action triggers the tax hungry information circuits. We will all have to be very careful with our actions. Just a lousy €1000 or more and 'they' want to know.

HOW to you get tens of thousands of dollars/euro INTO bitcoin without the government knowing about it?  When every electronic transaction is monitored?  And gift cards and prepaid credit cards are banned/moniotred  (that's happening in Europe right now, in the name of terrorism)

Then, how do you get it OUT of bitcoin?   Sure, some venders might accept bitcoin, in a back alley.

This is what happens when you let government control you instead of you controlling your government.  This is the stuggle of our time.  These people in power throughout the world, the Climate Change Communists for want of a better description, will wreck the entire world befoe they give up the power they now have but can't sustain.  It is happening everywhere.  Even in United States municipalities.  Everywhere.  Like a plague.

Either we are going to control them or they're going to control us and it looks, for now, like they are winning.

In Spain there is a declaration number 720 to the IRS. You have to declare your assets abroad. If you just make a very small mistake, you pay a 30.000 euro fine. You make a few mistakes, you pay hundreds of thousands of euros. It could happen that you end up paying in fines much more than all your assets abroad, even if acting in good faith. Totally outrageous.

As I have noted many times…

The problem, from our perspective, is, ‘How do we protect ourselves from their murderous political system?’  How, for example, do we protect our property (from physical gold, to businesses, to stocks and bonds (domestic and foreign)) from seizure by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)?  Furthermore, how do we protect ourselves from informers now being recruited, trained and protected by the DHS?

By the act of Congress that established the DHS a system was created by which informers could make false allegations against anyone they please with near-total impunity.  Of course, such informers aren’t described as informers; rather they are given the title “submitting person” and the DHS Act provided that their falsehoods will never be examined by any court or legislature or law enforcement agency.  The legislation even specifies how this immunity is obtained.  The “submitting person” only has to give an “express statement” that his lies were “voluntarily given” and that he expected “protection from disclosure”.  It’s all there, in the act that created the DHS.

I’m sorry guys, but silly season is over.  Even if you own physical gold, live in a cabin in the woods along with a stash of ammo and AK-47’s, you lose.  If you don’t fall to the horde of hungry homeless, you will fall to DHS death squads.  All the homeless have to do is to wait until you collapse from lack of sleep (24, 48, 72 hours), then they march in, slit your throat and… let your imagination run wild.

If you own stocks or bonds, guess what: you’re depending on criminal and useless classes to deliver your purchasing power at the moment of their greatest victory.  Did I mention something about ‘silly season’?

If you want to survive, you have to combine with others of like mind for the purpose of mutual protection, among other purposes.  The big question now is, ‘HOW is this to be done?’  And the quick answer is, ‘You must establish First-Amendment assembliesthe only historically-proven method by which men have made their lives and property secure from rule by thieves.’

The American Revolution, for example, was powered by a large network of such assemblies: from town meetings, county meetings, state conventions and, ultimately, to Continental Congresses.

Let’s be realistic: this solution won’t be easy or quick… unprecedented adventures never are.

Greeks will also have to declare the stocks they own,buy or sell on a year to year basis. That will destroy the most important aspect of the Greek stock exchange and in fact of every stock exchange.............anonymity. All share packets that change hands, regardless of size, will have to be declared to the Government. The funniest thing of all is that the Greek Taxisnet system is extremely easy to hack and the Greeks may soon find themselves the target of thieves due to leaks of their personal data, that is of the valuables they have declared. Greece has become a colony that will be systematically plundered and stripped of all its assets.

Then the government will simply confiscate EVERYTHING you own and YOU will have to PROVE where the money came from to have bought those items.

Take a look what's happened in the US with seizure of property RELATED to crime.   I remember one story about someone selling $40 worth of drugs, and because of that, they seized EVERYTHING they owned.

Not filling in the forms?  You make it VERY easy for the governemnt to seize EVERYTHING you own, bank accounts, cars, houses, and CONTENTS.    Failing to file or disclose assets is a CRIME.

People forget that they finaly got Al Capone, not because of his criminal activity, but becaue of TAXES.

I just made this up in my own head but I know the next step!  A "potential work tax". The formula will be how much work you can provide that will generate X level income and then you can pay a tax every year working or not! Sounds like the perfect govit idea. Then, once you have not paid your obligated contribution, you will be placed in prison to work off said "potential" until you die.

I think North Korea has some similar programs. Who knew they were so far ahead on a world financial scale?

Doesn't work that way.   They SEIZE EVERYTHING FIRST and then YOU have to prove how you got them.

They don't care about the few trinkets you bury.    They will simply look over your tax records, determine you are living above your means, or have undisclosed assets, and then they seize EVERYTHING.  It's then up to YOU to PROVE where the money went.

Sorry, you aren't thinking the way governments think.   You still believe that THEY have the burden of proof.  Nope.  Reality is that YOU have the burden of proof in tax "crimes".

Check the ASSET SEIZURE rules in the US, they are sweeping.     They find $100 worth of drugs on a person, and then they seize EVERYTING that person has.  Meaning house and contents, cars, boats, everything, becasue it's "related to crime".    Tax crimes are exactly the same.

The US never convicted Al Capone of any "crime" like murder or bootlegging.    They jailed him for TAX EVASION.

You would think the good old USA could manage a few million protestors to get government to slow down its thievery to an affordable level and stay out of wars and the torture business, it aint good for uncle sam's image, then again they should show his picture behind bars where he ought to be.

It appears that for all the bluster, citizens are as scared of their government as they are of terrorists.

So tell me why they should fill in any forms to give the criminals er, tax collectors, a chance to seize their property?

they used to wait until you died before that assessed assests so they could steal, er tax them. Now they want them whilst you are still alive?

What happens if you don't fill in the forms?

Easy answer.  The government will simply come and confiscate EVERYTHING you own.  Your house, property, it's contents, your car, etc.   Don't have enough assets?  They'll garnishee your wages too.

Because you didn't declare it, you are automatically a criminal.   Look up Asset Forfeiture laws  for criminals.   They seize FIRST, and then it's up to YOU to prove how you got it.   US law enforcement makes several billion dollars a year just from seizing and auctioning off assets from "criminals".

How soon before this starts happening in the USA? WE have got to do something to stop this criminal cartel called the Federal Reserve, IMF, World bank, etc.  Why does the Federal Government, which is authorized by the Constitution, to create and issue interest-free money, instead borrows that money at interest from a privately owned central bank, thereby plunging future generations into debt slavery to that bank? THAT is the real question we should be asking!"

The idea of a Privately owned central bank printing what THEY call money and loaning this ink and paper out with interest is patently absurd.

I do not want my money going to support other countries when we have Americans who can't find jobs and are living in poverty and are homeless. We can produce those things we need at home and give people jobs doing it!

You do realize that if we decided to seriously pursue alternative (non-petroleum) energy sources, Israel would be shit out of luck?  Their entire excuse for indispensability is as the sole reliable base/ally in the Middle East.  But if petroleum is unnecessary, so is the Middle East, ergo Israel.

If you want peace and prosperity, support solar, nuclear and wind power generation.  Reduce/eliminate intellectual property protections.  And push for the adoption of a single public credit union/retail bank to freely provide basic credit and savings accounting for non-commercial customers without conflicts of interest from profit motive or in-house investments.  Of course, this will never happen because it would completely cut out Those Who Must Not Be Named (or criticized) from their power bases.

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 02:28 | 6864487 conraddobler

The problem with alternative energy sources is that they all are subject to the law of thermodynamics and the amount of energy packed into a gallon of crude is literally amazing.

So they are competing with something that has a stupendous advantage.

I'm all for alternative energy research but until it hits paydirt and can legitmately take on oil and greatly reduce it's role in our energy consumption ledgers then we'd be better off drilling for our own oil which we did then the Saudis decided to take that out.

We have so much coal that could be burned cleanly it's not even funny.

The best way to reduce our need for oil is the industry getting slammed down the fastest all because we are calling CO2 a toxic gas that plants actually really like.

Thus the best solution is off the table because of stupidity.

It is obvious that the complex contracts of international financiers of no fixed abode and their chosen ones, their pet politicans, intend to run off with the money...and burn down the building to hide evidence of their crimes: that is the Middle East war they clamour for, against all sane reason or popular dissent from such madness. Our troops to be burnt for their lies, their love of money. Filth.

Keep the Constitution. Keep the guns.

Ordinary Americans are naturally globalist because we live with our neighbors from many lands. The so-called 'globalists' as per Rockefeller, Rothschild, Soros, Gates, Buffet and their pet politicians  are the old feudal order of corrupt, money loving whores, whipping the multitude into a frenzy; pitting one person against another, so the nasty old men can escape with their filthy lucre, and plots to control all, hate everyone.

Their self proclaimed New World Order is nothing more than the greed, avarice and hate loved by the  Old World Order money freaks.

There are three ways this plays out. Collection of wealth data has only a few possible outcomes.

1, Socialist government enacts a 2% wealth tax proposed by Thomas Pikety on a road to social justice, EU allows the experiment. Capital controls are in place, so it might be the time to just do it now.

2. Introduce drachma.

3. Bank bailout. Now I believe that Greece would explode at that moment with army seizing the country. Greeks protest about the saltiness of gyros. After this any such move by Syriza would mean betrayer and Athens would be rough place for a while.

Hence I belive that it is the first one. And I agree, it should be imposed. It just needs some sort of incentive, a contract from the governmnet that gives you something as worthy.

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 21:28 | 6863604 Faeriedust

"Viking defiance" as you put it, tends to be fatal in one generation when faced with brutal conquerors.  Greece has faced brutal conquerors repeatedly in the last two thousand years.  Viking defiance has been eliminated from the gene pool.

What has been selected for is cunning deception and passive resistance.  People who have repeatedly faced brutal oppressors armed with nothing but wits and bare hands are environmentally selected for the ability to APPEAR to comply with orders, while funneling off the profits on the side.  Clumsy attempts like this to register personal property and cash will be universally evaded, and Greek politicians who have been forced by their EU overseers to implement them will shrug and look the other way while loudly proclaiming their own helplessness.

Nothing short of another military occupation could make this work, and Germany surely knows better than to attempt THAT without a very good excuse . . . perhaps the fact of Greece being overrun by illegal Islamic immigrants unable to continue northward through the rapidly closing borders of the Balkans.  But still unlikely.  The Germans are far more likely to just allow Greece to become an open war zone, as long as they can keep it isolated behind barbed wire fences owned and operated by Serbians, Montenegrans, Croatians, Slovenians, Romanians and Hungarians -- ANYONE else who can be saddled with the bad press.

Leave half the information required to find your loot with one trusted friend, or better yet arrange for the information to be delivered upon your death. Arrange for another trusted friend to get the other half of the information required to find your loot upon your death. Neither should know or expect anything before then, and most importantly neither should know each other, or even know of each other."

How To Hide Gold, Precious Metals, Etc.

Here is a better idea:  Hire a hit man.  Where is the mob when you need them?  In front of the camera obeying their over-the-top wives.  So, possibly hire a hit country.  How about Russia.  Pay them in jewels, precious metals and money hidden in our mattresses.  A coordinated effort to get this pay off to the Russian military, who will then use it to buy the MIS ISLES with this penned on them:  ".  90 million dollars.  How to get it to them?  Pawn shop as cover and begin the negotiations.  Hand them the keys.  We are in the cross hairs of the men who we pay to protect us, and they have very bad intentions.

Yup, "GPS and a post-hole digger" is a very good and concise way to say it.

I am very much pro self-defense (or paying hitmen, as long as the purpose is indeed self-defense and/or recovery of goods and/or retaliation against prior aggression).

One potential problem with hitmen, of course, is that you need to know who stole your stuff, and how.  Which adds "excellent surveillance system" to the list of items required to go that route.

You know what?  Given the way the world is going, the world really should have a booming "private mercenary" business.  If someone screws you... and you have sufficient evidence to clearly demonstrate your claim is true, and who is responsible... you hire your favorite "hitman" or "private mercenary service" to recover losses plus recovery expenses plus a reasonable "risk and hassle fee" and/or kill the predators responsible.

Damn.  So many fools are willing to join predators-DBA-government to go kill unknown people far from home.  You'd think at least some of them would be more-than-willing to help victims.

Unfortunately not, I guess, unless you have the cover of fictitious flags, titles and uniforms.  Sheesh, humans are so dumb.
