The One Record That Was Broken On Black Friday That Mainstream Media Will Not Be Excited About
While overall retail sales disappointed following President Obama's impassioned plea to Americans that the world is in grave danger from terrorists but they should go about their usual business of spend-spend-spend-ing on Black Friday, it appears they did buy one thing. As USA Today reports, more Americans had their backgrounds checked purchasing guns on Black Friday than any day on record, according to data released by the FBI this week.
Friday's purchases came the same day as the mass shooting incident in Colorado Springs that killed three people and injured nine others.
On Saturday, President Obama called for tighter controls of "weapons of war" in the wake of the Planned Parenthood shooting.
"This is not normal," Obama said. "We can't let it become normal. If we truly care about this — if we're going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough."
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System processed 185,345 requests on Nov. 27, one of the largest retail sales days in the country.
"This was an approximate 5% increase over the 175,754 received on Black Friday 2014," wrote Stephen Fischer, the FBI's chief of multimedia productions. "The previous high for receipts were the 177,170 received on 12/21/2012."
Previous spikes for background checks, conducted before a gun buyer can obtain a firearm, occurred after prominent mass shootings, like in December 2012 in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

It appears Thanksgiving is a popular time in America to reaffirm the right to bear arms as other Black Friday shopping days in 2014, 2013 and 2012 occupied the FBI's "top 10" list of the most background checks processed in a 24-hour period.

Had to dive in to Friday's madness.
The prices on guns were awesome, $269 for a S&W SD40, couldn't pass it up.
8AM the wife and I were there filling out the paper work in Academy, pass the check in about 15 minutes and was home by 9:00am.
Only problem, I don't have a concealed carry permit so I had to wait three days. Picking it up in the Morning!
What I don't understand is, if the 3 days is a cool-down period, why does it need to be three business days? I purchased it Friday Morning and the guy tells me pick it up Thursday Morning.

If you have a safe full of black pristine rifles and not one of them has mud, gunk and paint matching your local terrain on it, you're wrong. Sorry, but I can't imagine circumstances where I would be rolling around in the mud performing "small unit tactics" against the bad guys.
I've deer hunted my place for many years. I locate a good, concealed stand with a wide range of view well ahead of time. When the season comes, I sit in that stand in the cold or wet for hours and hours, staying alert to any sounds and movements. Sometimes a deer comes along and it has antlers. At that point my rifle does not "sing like a bird". It goes "BOOM" once and the deer drops in its tracks.
It isn't hard to hit a target with a scoped rifle that's sighted in properly. It's a death ray - put the crosshairs on the target and squeeze. I could teach you to do it in one afternoon with one box of 20 rounds. Firing endless rounds at a rifle range is fun, but not really necessary unless you're training to hit targets at extreme distances.
Sitting on stand in uncomfortable conditions all day long in an alert state is hard. Not getting excited when the action starts is hard and comes with experience. Rolling around in the mud firing dozens of rounds while engaged in a firefight with a band of bad guys is not a very likely scenario.
Luck favors the prepared.

Today, at another Inland Empire city, San Bernardino, we have a bizarre mass murder at a state facility for developmentally disabled persons. Watching the TV newsfeed of the police circling a shot to pieces car in their armored vehicles, you could almost feel the fear of the police, even though they must know the occupants in the car are dead or out of commission. Shooting people in the back is much safer. Of course, Obama will feast on these killings like a cannibal cooking Christain missionaries. Just sickening, all around.
