UK Passes Vote To Begin Syria Airstrikes

Tyler Durden's picture

And just like that another country has decided it would send its fighter planes in the already congested skies above Syria, when moments ago the UK parliament decided, in a 397 to 223 vote, to begin airstrikes on Syria.

According to the vote, U.K. lawmakers backed Prime Minister David Cameron’s plan to extend air strikes against Islamic State from Iraq into Syria, after the opposition Labour Party split over whether to support military action.

The House of Commons in London voted in favor of a motion by Cameron’s government authorizing action. Lawmakers had earlier rejected an amendment that would have blocked the use of military force.

The 10 1/2 hours of debate saw many tetchy speeches and interventions, but the best received came from Labour foreign-affairs spokesman Hilary Benn, ending the debate by taking the opposite side of the argument from his leader, Jeremy Corbyn, a career-long opponent of military interventions.

“We must now confront this evil,” Benn said, as Corbyn sat in silence beside him. “It is now time for us to do our bit in Syria.”

What the RAF's fighters will instead confront upon their campaign, which is set to begin imminently, is a lot of Russian dogfighters, each armed with Air to Air missiles thanks to Turkey, making the probability of a deadly chance encounter above Syria that much higher.

I watched some of the debate.

Western agencies created and supports ISIS as a foreign policy tool, and the fools in the UK Parliament are totally ignorant of that. They are ignorant too, that the real target is not ISIS at all, and any bombing without UN approval (or Assad's!) is illegal anyway.

The pro-bombing faction are a mixture of bare-faced liars, chicken-hawks, and those too gullible to be competent to lead the nation. They are like toddlers playing at being grown ups.

A special mention for the late Tony Benn, who will be turning in his grave after his son's Goebbels-like pro-bombing speech.

This world is run by lunatics, whose power-base is the endless supply of fools who fall over themselves to follow them.

Credit to Jeremy Corbyn, and the other MPs who said no.

There is a reason that the Turks have been Europe's enemy for a thousand years - something to do with them being Turkish.

Of course they didt think of that one...they are too used to just bombing any country they want.

However, A high-ranking officer within the joint operation room in Damascus, consisting of Russia, Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, said “Damascus received sets of S -300 advanced Russian missiles, ready to enter active service. Soon, Syria will announce that any country using the airspace without coordinating with Damascus will be viewed as hostile and will shoot the jet (s) without warning. Those willing to fight terrorism and coordinate with the military leadership will be granted safe corridors”

Damascus is expected to announce soon, that every unidentified jet

flying in the sky of Syria will be considered hostile and will be shot
down if no previous coordination have been made with the Syrian
authorities. Syria is ready to provided safe corridors for those willing
to strike terrorism

The Tornado was one of these brilliant compromises by politicians and deskbound military.

They wanted a fighter, oh but they wanted a bomber too. Instead of ordering two different things, they decided they could order one, and bolt on lots of Transformer bits to turn into the other. A bit like designing a Usain Bolt sprinter and a Mo Farah distance runner in one pair of shorts. Unfortunately, they got the opposite.

They don't like to bring it out when the odds are even, only for unopposed business; I'm sure it'll do well in its first Syrian sortie, then it'll be SAMmed out of the sky when they realise how slow it is.

F...ing idiots. When did the concept of killing innocents as long as there was a good chance of killing the guilty, become acceptable? Only when the people are from another country, that's when ! I wonder if these cowardly politicians would vote to bomb Syria if their sons and daughters were trapped there? No, of course not. Because people from other countries are of lesser value. Esp Middle Eastern countries. The judicial system operates on the concept that it is better to let 100 potentially guilty people go free, than to incarcerate one innocent person. But with military action it seems, it's ok to kill many as long as you might kill one guilty person.

BTW, with Russian S400's and S300's now on Syrian territory, Syria and Russia have just imposed a no fly zone of their own.  Also, A high-ranking officer within the joint operation room in Damascus, consisting of Russia, Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, said “Damascus received sets of S -300 advanced Russian missiles, ready to enter active service. The UK parliament may have voted in favor but it will still be illegal.  The UN resolution requires countries to do what they can "within international law".  Now international law might not mean much these days but it does not include bombing a sovereign country.  Unless Assad requests help, or the UK joins in a coalition with Russia, any UK bombing in Syria will be illegal.

I'm not so sure about illegal

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/islamic-state/12010091/UN-appr...

From the article date 21 Nov

"The United Nations Security Council unanimously passed resolution 2249 on Friday, condemning terrorist attacks and calling on member states to act against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

What does the resolution mean?

In its own words, resolution 2249 urges member states to “take all necessary measures, in compliance with international law” against Isil and to eradicate the group's safe havens in Iraq and Syria. As a unanimous call to action it shows that the international community is united in opposition to the jihadist group. But like so many UN resolutions, exactly what those “necessary measures” might be is left vague. "

They can treat this as permission to invade Syria in pursuit of ISIS.

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 20:50 | 6868641 EuroPox
EuroPox's picture

You got the "in compliance with International law" bit right and that does not include bombing a sovereign nation.  The resolution was not passed under and does not invoke Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which would authorise the use of force.  The resolution is a fudge.  France wanted a resolution under chapter 7 but Russia would have vetoed that, so in the end they passed a resolution with lots of bark but no bite.  The UN resolution absolutely does not authorise the use of force.

The UK parliament has just voted for an illegal bombing campaign by the RAF!  Why not just bomb Belgium too since that is where the Bataclan massacre was planned and where nearly all the bombers were born and lived.

ISIS may be created by the CIA--ok almost certainly is-- but the problem is, once you sow the muslim wind, you reap the whirlwind. Islamic terrorists are self-organizing and self-motivating, and the Koran is an awfully good instruction manual. Once the Muslim golem has been animated, you have to kill it. Whoever created it and let it out of the box becomes irrelevant at that point, as it grows and it spreads on its own.

Once the Islamic armies were destroyed at the gates of Vienna, we mostly had them back in a box for a few hundred years. Now they are out again and more bloodthirsty than ever. Blame Israel, blame the CIA, blame whoever...but the fact is, they now have to be dealt with.

Yes, ISIS does have to be dealt with in the EU and where ever else it rears it's ugly head. However, that isn't the subject at hand. What we are talking about here is an illegal bombing campaign whos' expressed goal is to bomb ISIS but in reality is only going there to assist ISIS and/or the terrorist cells that go by the names Al Qaida and Al Nusra to overthrow a sovereign gov't.

That is the fucking outrage and what everyone is frustrated about. The MSM can't get their heads out of their asses long enough to cover this story correctly. UK is trying to thwart Russias support of Assad. This idea that the US and/or UK are trying to defeat ISIS but yet can't seem to bomb the transport of oil into Turkey (nor speak out against Turkey as a funder of terrorism) reveals their true intentiions. The fact that the UN doesn't come out against the illegal bombing of a sovereign nation is another frustration and outrage.

blankone,

when i made my comment to DrE i was hoping @ sometime howdy would arrive & clarify, as he in no way requires an assistant.  the sites shown are indeed directly off syria's coast.  the link details the involved interests of france, uk, israel, ussa...all the big oil companies.  & yes part of the point of usurping syria for israel (ie...genie oil) & others is obviously to crush russia's energy sales to europe.  israel has plans for her pipeline. blankone, you have been consistent---i give you that, but i suggest it may be time for you to have the Big Sit & rethink your continual spin regarding putin.  things at large are very elastic & much of what is going on is behind the scenes & it pays all of us to pay great attention as well as keep an open mind & not fall into playing a) either a party line b) or rehasing our old past due date ideas.  ;-)

Dr. Iv'e come to the conclusion long ago that it's not enough to just blame the psychopaths in power anymore. I am sick and tired of the western populace pretending they have no say in any of this. there comes a point when we really have to ask ourselves why we put up with the criminal actions of our governments actions and have to take responsiblitity for them. Far be it that I can suggest any change of strategy to Russia - which has been single handedly handling the "West's" perverted neocon designs with adroit skillfulness - but I strongly believe a change of strategy is called for. National borders and sovereignty cannot be ignored and stepped over at will. It is time that Russia supplements its call for a coalition of nations to combat IS with a concurrent call for respect of the sovereignty of Syria. Operations against IS on Syria's soil should be conducted under the aegis of the Syrian government. This is not a party where each government decides to join without being invited and supervised by Syria. I think Assad and Putin should explain this to the various NATO members through the UN forum.  Having set that precedent it would be difficult for these nations to subsequently declare that their mission was the removal of Assad as well. And if they continue to do so, they are not invited to the coalition. At this stage a show of force will probably be necessary. Winning western public opinion can only go so far when all the major media are state assets. But won't this risk WWIII? Well, probably yes, if Russia is otherwise resigned to stepping back at each major confrontation - for the sake of world peace. But, as we've seen with Nazism, such a strategy is not even guaranteed to bring peace in the long term. I would think that a very strong, early response might frighten and abort any such ambitions of the neo-Nazi imitators.

Same story, different location...

Questions you'd better not ask in Canada by
Dr STEPHEN J. SNIEGOSKI

But the question of the Jewish/Israeli connection to the Iraq war extends even deeper into taboo territory, into which we will now venture. It involves the origins of the September 11 terrorism. Israel apparently was aware of the 9/11 terrorists. We know that some Mossad agents lived on the same street in Florida as Mohammed Atta and that other Mossad agents positioned themselves so they could tape the burning Trade Towers from across the Hudson River. Those occurrences seem definitely to have depended on more than pure coincidence.

And why did the US go into Iraq?

This playbook of absolute bullshit by the us and allies to engender regime change for reasons unrelated to self defense only works because the us media is total controlled propaganda.

The calls for no fly zones against an enemy with no air corce telegraphs the desire to use isis, the us/israeli golem, as pretext to attack assad and balkanize syria and lebanon.

Per the Oded Yinon / PNAC line of plans.

Then on to iran - on another pretext.

And the American people show no signs at all of objecting to being ruled by Zionists, bankers, and oil men.

So lets take a step back.

We have the say Fox news narrative - which is laughable.

The popular alternative is that Saudi Arabia so craves to run a qatari gas pipeline through syria it is spending billions on Salafist mercs, while also fighting a war against hospitals in yemen, which doesnt threaten anyone outside of yemen, and the 'choke point' thing makes zero sense. By the way the Iranians dis tons of work against pirates, Russians too, and its hard to find coverage of it in English at all.

Qatari gas could have been flowing on an alternate route by now. Flooding the area with weapons and destroying infrastructure and terrorizing locals IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO BUILDING AND MAINTAINING A PIPELINE FULL OF GAS.

The Qatari pipeline notion is, and has been bullshit. Be nice to see Zh retire it. Iran has gained grat influence in iraq after the americans spent a decade raping and killing it, and despite the sinister spend n its perfectly natural and understandable. Iran doesnt threaten saudi arabia OR israel (note Netanyahu's lies of late laying the pretext to grab more of golan.

Except commercially.

And Iran supports the Palestinians and helps hezbollah keep lebanon to the litani out of greater israels blood stained plans.

No - the saudis are a puppet of the us, which is a puppet of isrsel and transnational jewry/zionism - sorry, but thats the facts. Media, banking, the Acadrmy, wealth/donations.

The saudis have no real reason to be in syria or yemen. The turks have the kurds and turkmen but its not clear the average urban turk much cares.

But - they just tried to goad russia into a shooting war - claiming an airspace violation the turks violated syrian airspace to down a plane bombing oil convoys.

Now the germans who deserve what they will get in the air if they stick to their batshit crazy, and unlawful plan.

The us has zero legal right to be in syria. It has no vital security need. It arguably weakens iran and russia - but those nations do not threaten the US and indeed THREATENING RUSSIA is the biggest created threat of all.

But behind it all is the country you must whisper about.

Until you refuse to submit to that mind control - and simply look at who has power.

Syria is about Likud- Zionist Israel. And as you should recall it is not last on the list.

Syria
Lebanon
Iran

All economic rivals all supporters to some extent of the Palestinians who are under decades of what is really a brutal and racist occupation. Israel never intended peace, but spins ithe narrative in a heavily jewish/zio press, that it is always a victim, kilong with jers and tanks facing rocks and knives in land not even theirs.

Villify all muslims, use terror proxies to destroy infrastructure and drive out native arabs, send them to germany and fundamentally change it against their will, ensuring conflict for decades or more in europe, and hope the us and russia kill lots of european christians and arabs.

The British were furious when Parliament refused to give them the green light to attack Syria in 2013. They've been frothing at the mouth ever since to give Parliament a second chance, this time to make "the right decision".

War-mongering fuckers. Everybody knows they've been supporting military opposition to a democratically-elected government (that's government, BBC, not regime) hand over fist. I don't give a damn whether that military opposition is "moderate" or not; as soon as they attack a legitimate government which has the support of 70 or 80 percent of the people they are terrorists, in my book.

And everybody can see the consequences of their action now - hundreds of thousands dead and displaced, all because these British and American fuckers are going to bend over backwards to do Israel's bidding in the Middle East.
