Americans Have Never Tried To Buy So Many Guns In November... Ever
Two things happened after the most recent widely publicized US mass shootings/domestic terrorism acts: i) Obama once again made a concerted effort to push for gun-control, and ii) gun sales soared to record highs for November most likely in response to i). As we reported in September, citing the FT, "gun sales this year could surpass the record set in 2013, when gun purchases surged after the December 2012 Sandy Hook murders." And given that Black Friday background checks broke all previous records, it appears we are well on our way.
... the calls for tighter gun laws lead to an increase in weapons sales. “Once the public hears the president on the news say we need more gun controls, it tends to drive sales,” said Mr Hyatt, who owns one of the largest gun retailers in the US. “People think, if I don’t get a gun now, it might be difficult to get one in the future. The store is crowded.”
"We don’t want our business to be based on tragedy but we have to deal with what we have no control over,” Mr Hyatt said. “And after these shootings and then the calls for tougher gun laws, we see a buying rush.”
This is not surprising: as Wired noted back in 2013, sharp spikes in gun sales usually following mass shootings for several reasons.
The desire to protect one's self In many cases, gun shootings followed by 24/7 media coverage prompt citizens to arm themselves, according to testimonies. In Aurora, for instance, Jake Meyers of Rocky Mountain Guns and Ammo told The Post shoppers cited self-protection when checking out new weapons. "A lot of it is people saying, 'I didn't think I needed a gun, but now I do,' " Meyers said. "When it happens in your backyard, people start reassessing — 'Hey, I go to the movies.'"
The fear of stricter gun laws Another logical factor is that gun owners' or soon-to-be-gun owners' sense a tide of gun control regulations following a massacre and seek to purchase guns ahead of fast-moving laws. Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, spoke to this following a 60 percent uptick in gun sales in the aftermath of the Tucson shootings in 2011. "Some Americans fear tougher gun control laws in the aftermath of Saturday’s attack so they want to stock up now," he told Politico. “What it shows is maybe gun owners in Arizona and these other states feel that there’s going to be some change in the law, which is what I hope our elected officials” trying to enact. Obviously, that fear has been unfounded. Since coming into office, Obama has been virtually silent on the issue of gun control, despite the protestations of liberals.
The feeling of uncertainty It's important to remember, spikes in guns sales don't just coincide with shooting sprees. They also coincide with violent events of any kind, as Fredrick Kunkle at The Washington Post reported. "People also rushed to buy guns after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles and the breakdown of order in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina." That has led some industry experts and law enforcement officials to point to a general feeling of uncertainty as a driver of gun buying habits. "People often buy firearms during periods of uncertainty," Gary Kleck, a researcher at Florida State University's College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, told the paper.
Which brings us to today when in the latest FBI background check data - a proxy for total gun sales in the United States as most gun purchases require a background check - we find that, as expected, Obama's latest threat to implement stricter gun controls backfried once more, and the month of November saw a record number of background checks.

Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton has said that the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment, that Australian style mandatory gun buybacks should be considered in the United States, and that she would implement new gun control through executive action.
“Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton are the best gun salespeople on the planet. The more they scream for new gun control laws the more guns walk off the shelves at gun stores,” said Alan Gottlieb, the head of the Second Amendment Foundation. “To quote the lyrics of Peter, Paul and Mary, ‘When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn.’”
The biggest irony, however, as we reported previously, is that "homicide rates have been cut in half over past 20 years as new gun ownership soared."

I would most welcome open carry in Cali and I would not discriminate between the beautiful or the overweight and unattractive to do so. Personally, I would welcome a sidearm as an nice accessory as a good purse. Since we had a local murder of a woman jogging on a trail, I have open carried when I hike with my 110 German Shepard and have had no problems. I smile and am gratious to all I encounter but the gun in a nice way to say " don't fuck with me" without the verbal unpleasantness.

Personally i have found nothing better than the 57 and own two of them. I still like 1911s and collect a number of them but have found no fault in the 57....except ammo, which for a while there was rare in deed, but its almost back to normal now.
Sweet, and the P90 is one of the only rifles that hold 50 rounds of the same ammo. It's a small but fast round made to maximize the number of rounds you can carry and maximize lethality. I of course don't own one they are expensive but thought I'd mention it. The handgun is sweet too, both heavily used by secret service around the world well the fully auto versions.

The AK-47 is the easiest gun to build yourself. Simple design and very little knowledge needed to construct one out of widely available materials. Getting ammo can be difficult but again you can always learn how to produce it yourself.
Europe does its violence in mult-year orgies that kill tens of millions, about every 50 years, give or take. The rate of violent death in the USA is far lower than the European one when you average it out over a typical human lifespan of 80 years. TOTAL of UK homicides in 2014 was approximately 500 out of a population of 64 million. Perhaps you can explain how killers with clubs and knives are equally deadly as those armed with 30-round magazines.
An assailant with a firearm is far more likely to kill than a knife-weilding attacker. How many knife attacks have resulted in mass casualties? A suicide attempt with a gun is much more likely to succeed than a suicide attempt using other means. That is why having a gun in the house increases the likelihood of a suicide death significantly.

Lost in the controversy over guns is the fact that the number of households with gun owners is falling, but the total number of guns owned is rising. This means that there is a hard core of gun crazies amassing arsenals out of compulsion. This is really a mental health problem that needs to be treated: gun addiction.

Cultures MUST be respected! America and guns have always walked side by side. So it was written and should only be changed when the PEOPLE so determine - which would represent a cultural change from within.
the same goes with different oppinions, must be respected. To me (European) there is NOTHING that should be forbidden on the individual level, such as guns. If I want to own one, I should be able to.
The same I can't say on society level. To me, open carry seems madness, I grew up in a different culture. We don't understand how someone can claim himself responsible for something that can have impact further than his eyes can see.

Let's put this in perspective. There are roughly 765,000 sworn law enforcement agents in the United States. There are roughly 1,400,000 people on active duty in the armed forces (a surprisingly large number of which, USN & USAF in particular, have ZERO combat training). If Obongo ordered them to confiscate guns, and every member obeyed and was able to seize one gun each, they would be able to grab all the guns sold in the United States in November 2015.
