Germany Sends 1,200 "Support" Troops To Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

Angela Merkel has a migrant “problem” and here’s what it looks like on paper:

Merkel’s open-door policy to Syrian asylum seekers scored the chancellor some badly needed PR points in the wake of fraught negotiations with Athens during which she and German FinMin Wolfgang Schaeuble were often cast as the miserly villains in Greece’s debt drama.

But enthusiasm for the migrant cause waned in Germany as hundreds of thousands streamed into the country after traversing the so-called “Balkan route”. Lawmakers are divided and the German people are increasingly on edge following the attacks in Paris and the scare in Hannover.

“Suddenly, Europe’s most durable democratic leader faces the most serious political crisis of her decade in office,” E.J. Dionne Jr. writes, in an Op-ed for WaPo. “In opening her country’s borders to what one German official called a 'biblical march' of refugees, Merkel called forth a series of paradoxes,” he continues. “On the one hand, Germans are deeply proud of their response to the migrants as tens of thousands mobilized to welcome them, but the initial glow of national pride is now shadowed by doubts and, in many cases, anger [as] more than 1 million refugees are expected to reach Germany, whose population is roughly 82 million.”

Fortunately, there’s a foolproof way to stem the flow: help destroy the country from which the migrants are fleeing.

France understands this. So does the US. And apparently, so does Britain. Put simply, when people are running from violence, you have to “bomb the hell out of” their ancestral homeland (to quote Trump) in order to make that home a safer place for them. Of course Russia is doing the same thing, but where Moscow gets it wrong is that Vladimir Putin has an actual plan and a roadmap for restoring a strong central government in Syria. That’s no good. What you want is absolute chaos if you truly intend to stop the migrant flow, and that means covertly arming terrorists and raining down bombs on targets with no strategic significance whatsoever.

Obviously, we’re being sarcastic. The point is that the last thing Syrians need is for another country to join the campaign, but that’s exactly what happened on Friday after the German Bundestag voted to approve military action.

In a 445 “for”, 146 “against” (seven abstentions) vote, German lawmakers approved the use of six Tornado reconnaissance jets, and the deployment of a frigate to help "protect" the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. Berlin will also send refueling aircraft and up to 1,200 military personnel. It’s not entirely clear who Germany is “protecting” the French carrier from. Perhaps Berlin is worried about Islamic State’s powerful navy.

Although Germany will not be dropping any actual bombs (at least not for now), Syrians who in many cases dream of one day scraping together the $10,000 to $15,000 they need to make the trip to the German promised land will now be able to look up and see these in the sky:

Nope, nothing intimidating about that if you're a Syrian civilian. Just a "harmless" recon aircraft.

In any event, add six German Panavia Tornado ECRs to the crowded skies above Syria which are already teeming with everything from American F-16s and AC-130s, to French Rafales, to British Eurofighter Typhoons to German long-range strategic bombers.

We've said it before and we'll say it again, the chances of (another) "accident" only grow with each new participant, and that goes double now that the Russians are hyper-sensitive to potentially hostile aircraft and have the S-400s and the Moskva at the ready.

The silver lining: Syrians no longer have to dream of meeting Merkel, she's coming to them...

Why is NATO now working together,  a show of solidarity.   Russia deploying and demonstrating their might,  China restructuring its military and increasing its military footprint, islands,  North Korea flexing its wacko nuke stupidity. Even Japan is building its own stealth fighters and increasing its defense budget to protect islands.  This is much bigger than ISIS, the big dogs are loose, pissing and marking new turf.

It's been a while since a proper war, i mean, where both sides have armies, airforces etc.. in fact you have to go back 75 years. Since then US has only taken on deserts and jungles and peasants with no defenses in sight. Oh, the glory. I mean, we showed those Grenadians who was boss.

As a result the animal spirits are rising and a feeling of inevitable total confrontation developes.

So its a bit like one of the Facebook induced disatsters - when one person invited a friend over, who invited another friend - and so on, Until an unwelcome / unruly crowd descend on the dwelling of the fool who just thought he/she had invited A friend round. except that in this case one of the friends, Russia, has limited means to wage war, and is, most of the times, very cautious about spending them with abandon

another of the friends, France, the same, while the third of those friends, Germany, has millions of reasons at home to see Syrians have a country to return to

otherwise, yes, it does look like a Facebook party. if Putin, Hollande and Merkel put a FacePalm page about "War against ISIS" I might even tempted to go there and put a "like"

perhaps. and perhaps not. the blaming game can go around and around

Denmark was blaming Sweden's "open door", and is still sniggering that Sweden had to shut it. Sweden pointed to Germany as the "straw that broke the camel's back"

let's recap. Turkey failed to "pen" them, except that it is now... "bribed" to do so. Greece "failed", the whole Balkan region did, and so on up to Austria

meanwhile, the whole european Left was shouting at Hungary's conservative-in-chief, and now he looks as the only one that was right, particularly among the eastern EU countries

fact is that the war in Syria made some 10 million people into refugees

fact is that this can't go on this way. strike that, the last one is not a fact, it's my firm conviction... and not only mine

Wait for the counter revolution. The National Socialist who are for the White Race will once again take control of Germany and remove the National Socialists who are waging war on the White Race.

Race and war on race is a vital element of National Socialism. Since just about every government in the world is National Socialist, except Iceland because they allowed their banks to fail and put the jerks in jail, it is very easy to determine what will happen. The key question is what race are they waging a war upon.

In Germany it is the White race. In the US, under Obama bin Laden it is the White race.

But at times I get confused because the Democratic Party, while proclaiming its allegiance to the Black race, sure looks like they are setting up the Blacks for extermination.  By allowing unrestricted abortion, the numbers of Blacks are decreasing dramatically; by keeping the Black on Black violence zones up and running the numbers are falling even faster as Blacks kills Blacks, and by keeping them on welfare when the welfare payments stop the massive violence will again leave only a few left to mop up. All it would take to get the violence going full scale is to simply leaglize drugs.

cheech_wizard's picture

Be confused no more...

While professing to care about the plight of the poor, Obama continues to take actions that keep blacks impoverished, so he can use black grievances for partisan political gain. In his book "Dreams From My Father", Obama wrote disdainfully about blacks who complain about being poor, yet continue to vote for Democrats — like Obama — who keep them poor. On page 147 of his book, Obama described what he and his fellow Democrats do to poor blacks as "plantation politics" when he wrote: "A plantation. Black people in the worst jobs. The worst housing. Police brutality rampant. But when the so-called black committeemen came around election time, we'd all line up and vote the straight Democratic ticket. Sell our soul for a Christmas turkey."

Warmongers, Newspapers and the Ruling Class (1891-1914) [1]

People's actions are influenced by what they know. People act on their beliefs and perceptions. You can manipulate a person's actions by corrupting their knowledge base, warping historical truth, or ignoring it completely. Knowledge can make for independence and the truth can make us free. Elite groups seeking power over others have always recognized these realities and have sought to prevent the spread of knowledge. Transparency frightens them.

Northcliffe was a valuable contributor to the Ruling Elite in their drive to vilify the German Kaiser. His papers constantly repeated the warning that Germany was the enemy. In story after story, the message of the German danger to the British Empire, to British products, to British national security was constantly repeated. Not every newspaper followed suit, but the right-wing press was particularly virulent. In addition, Northcliffe had by 1908 bought up The Observer and the Sunday Times.

NATO, the US Government (not affiliated in any way with the American people), the banking system and British monarchy (and most likely the Israeli and Saud despots) have been trying to provoke Russia and to some extent Iran into a war by first terrorizing and then outright attacking nonaggressive countries, such as the Ukraine and Syria (after they overthrew other non-bank aligned countries, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya).

The only countries that they attack are those who are uncorrupted and not indebted slaves to the banking powers. They have been run by leaders who ostensibly care more about the people than their own wealth and luxury... something that cannot be said for Turkey, the Saud and Britain for that matter.

These countries have been under attack using the satanic method. That method is: 1. to corrupt the leaders and/or indebt the countries and then 2. if you cannot capture them that way, then smear them, terrorize them and if the leaders still resist then 3. outright attack them and smear them some more using the corrupt press. No one can in any way claim that this is right or good. It is Satan's method. It is what the banking houses have always done to create and consolidate power throughout all known history.

The US government and its people were apparently free for a time (and there is even argument about that, but if not free then why would the British foment several wars against the US, including the civil war), but was eventually captured by the British/banking empire and indebted to them. Now the US government is a puppet organization apparently spreading terror around the world for the benefit of the banks. It is very sad.

Here is the problem: Both Russia and China have been corrupted and are part of the system. So, ultimately if it is the Satan directed and inspired banking empire that is calling in all of their corrupted and indebted slave-states then ultimately Russian and Chinese compromised leadership will acquiesce to Satan's will. If there is war, then it will be with cooperation from the captured leadership of both "sides" (which is actually one side, Satan's) ... with the people caught in the middle.

If this makes you uncomfortable ... it should.

At best if the numbers are correct and the guys already there are the type where family doesn't get a letter where Johnny went on "permanent holiday" which is going to be pretty much all of them with the exception of the token pilots that might as well be bringing their popcorn in order to watch admiringly from the nose bleed section as Russia continues to pound the shit out of there investment I'd say Germany's contribution is outright mutiny!!!

They will try to get as many of those 1200 killed and say to the German and British public...

is that the same France that once exited NATO? you are correct, though note the French-American effort in what once was called French Indo-China and later Viet Nam wasn't even remotely attached to anything called NATO. It was a Franco-American alliance in regard to that country

Well then, I blame my public school education. Our history books said it was a "NATO" thing. Shame on me for taking it as fact. But the original point still stands, I don't think the terms "defensive" and "regional" hold much weight anymore in the NATO mission. Seems that the game is afoot and every government or alliance is trying to expand, before they all contract.

I have as little explanation as you have. Or why Cameron pushed a vote in the Westminster Parliament to go to Syria, too, when the UK is already in Iraq

weasels. trying to push the boundaries of everything, beyond the written treaties, beyond sense, beyond everything

meanwhile, there are plenty of reasons for europeans to restore order in Libyia, since ISIS has started to operate from there

of course, this is something that used to be organized by the once "Policeman of the World", but I haven't seen this role in action, lately

Italy, may I add, is fuming about the latest Cameron actions, and it's not the only one country that is keeping it's mouth shut "because of the BreXit referendum"

expect lots of recriminations after the vote. oh, why is that "day after" not yet here

Fri, 12/04/2015 - 13:38 | 6876313 smacker

By most interpretations of law, Cameron's action to bomb Syria is illegal. Syria is a sovereign nation and Britain has not been invited in.

But he claimed in Parliament that it was legal (presumably he consulted lawyers) as it was to prevent terrorists attacking "our people". If anything it will raise the risks of domestic terrorism, but Parliament bought it and used their rubber-stamps.

Whether he actually bombs ISIS or just drops bombs in the desert, who knows.

The RAF are struggling to find a target still in one piece to bomb.

If we were interested in containing terrorist groups we would have achieved that, but we created or funded them to achieve regime change and we need them even if they turned into monsters.

And, by the way, if regime change is our overriding obsession, why did we not do a Baghdad and demolish Damascus?  Then we could leave the smoldering ruins and watch them create a democracy.  Or disappear Assad - y'know - illegal abduction. That would have saved a few hundred thousand lives.

Obviously too much to ask that we get a clear statement of goals and strategy.

So let me see...we have USA, Russia, France, Britain, Jordan, bombing the hell out of Syria and ISIS. Damn... they don't even have one airplane to fight back...and we cannot defeat them... don't remember reading any military fighting strategy books by ISIS rebels.. only one answer... we should have given more credit to Allah.
