326,000 Native-Born Americans Lost Their Job In November: Why This Remains The Most Important Jobs Chart

Tyler Durden's picture

Friday's release of a "just right" jobs report, in which the US economy reportedly added 211,000 jobs, more than the 200,000 expected, solidified its position as the "most important" one in recent years, after it was broadly interpreted by economists as the sufficient condition for the Fed to hike rates on December 16, 7 years to the day after the same Fed cut rates to zero.

As such, if indeed the Fed does hike, over the next several quarters, the US labor data will take a secondary place in terms of importance unless, of course, it plummets in which case the Fed will be forced to quickly undo its tightening policy and go back to ZIRP if not NIRP and more QE.

However, even as the Fed's "data (in)dependent" monetary policy takes on secondary relevance as we enter 2016, one aspect of the US jobs market is certain to take on an unprecedented importance.

We first laid out what that is three months ago when we said that "the one chart that matters more than ever, has little to nothing to do with the Fed's monetary policy, but everything to do with the November 2016 presidential elections in which the topic of immigration, both legal and illegal, is shaping up to be the most rancorous, contentious and divisive."

We were talking about the chart showing the cumulative addition of foreign-born and native-born workers added to US payrolls according to the BLS since December 2007, i.e., since the start of the recession/Second Great Depression.

Curiously, it is precisely this data that got absolutely no mention following yesterday's job report, about which the fawning mainstream media only noted, in passing, one negative aspect to the report: the fact that 319,000 part-time jobs for economic reasons were added in November. However, with Trump and his anti-immigration campaign having just taken the biggest lead in the republican primary race, we are confident that the chart shown below will soon be recognizable to economic and political pundits everywhere.

And here is why we are confident this particular data should have been prominently noted by all experts when dissecting yesterday's job report: according to the BLS' Household Survey, while 375,000 foreign-born workers found jobs in November, a whopping 326,000 native-born Americans lost theirs.

How does this data look like over the long-run: presenting, the cumulative number of job gains by foreign born workers since December 2007. At 25.5 million, it is the highest in the series.

If only the chart for native-born workers was anything remotely as buoyant.

And here, as we have shown previously, is the most important jobs chart for 2016: since December 2007 the US economy added just 747,000 native-born workers (a number which tumbled as much as 8 million during the depths of the crisis), compared to a 260% greater increase in foreign-born workers, to just under 2.7 million.

We are confident that one can make the case that there are considerations on both the labor demand-side (whether US employers have a natural tendency to hire foreign-born workers is open to debate) as well as on the supply-side: it may be easier to obtain wage-equivalent welfare compensation for native-born Americans than for their foreign-born peers, forcing the latter group to be much more engaged and active in finding a wage-paying job.

However, the underlying economics of this trend are largely irrelevant: as the presidential primary race hits a crescendo all that will matter is the soundbite that over the past 8 years, 2.7 million foreign-born Americans have found a job compared to only 747,000 native-born. The result is a combustible mess that will lead to serious fireworks during each and every subsequent GOP primary debate, especially if Trump remains solidly in the lead.

Exactly! Time to wake up and see that Americans are being replaced by the various types of visas.

Look at the malls and you'll see groups of young male foriegn-born guys together. They usually work for outsourcing firms and live together cheaply so they can save and send money back home.

Rather than hire Americans companies are dumping them and hiring from overseas. It's become epidemic now that they know the laws are a joke and the visa attorneys use holes and essentially no enforcement.

Any company found to violate just has to pay back wages, and no fines.  Less than a slap on the wrist.

Or they didn't want the dirty jobs :)

But kidding aside, a while back I met a Arab guy who had a good growing building company that he started about a decade ago.

All his employees where white. Not a single arab guy between his crew.

So I asked him making a joke why he didn't give a job oppurtunity to other arabic people?

His answer: They don't show up anymore after a few days and complain about the salary constantly and don't want to get dirty. they rather stay home collecting benefits.

And this white guys? They come early and work their ass off without complaining.

That was pretty funny comming from a arabic guy! Especially since those muslim people keep complaining they don't get enough jobs.

In the end, it doesn't really matter who gets the job. It's attitude that gets you the job.

And if you have a fucked up attitude...

Good post, Sudden Debt  I have a friend with a small restaurant with an all hispanic crew.  I asked why he keeps hiring hispanics, he said the same thing.  They never complain and stay for a long time as long they're treated with respect.  He used to hire students, but after a month or two they'd quit.

In the end, attitude is everything.

Of course they are probably in the U.S. illegally and and they will work without complaining for fear of being deported.  He probably pays them under the table at wages far below those that he would have to pay U.S. citizens.

Not necessarily the case. In my experience as a restaurant owner (all my Hispanic workers make better than minimum wage and are covered with worker's comp and pay all taxes. My highest paid employee is Hispanic), they have a better work ethic. If they can't make it to work, they get someone to cover their shift. They treat  co-workers with respect. They rarely get sick. There's no drama. They take care of their families. And they work hard at two jobs, six days a week. The restaurant industry is thriving because of the Hispanics, and not because of their immigration status or getting paid under the table.

Working for others is pointless.

I am not alone in noticing this well hidden truth.

And because of that employers hire illegals and force the government to allow them in.

China? If you be single and sh!t and are ok with the climate I say go! China is far from perfect, but no place is "perfect", you just gotta be able to live with the downsides.  Go, meet people, make contacts, learn, by time you want to move on your choices will be different than today - you have a job offer, that's a lot more than most people can say who want to "leave".

Somewhat related to moving "east", a comment from this article:

http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/russia-finishes-power-bridge-ends-...

How odd, that the "evil" Russians represent their own people and see to it that their infrastructure works, such as electric which basically is a human right.

I don't know WHO in the U.S. Represents me, certainly no one in Washington does. They are bought and wholly owned by Corporate America. Our roads have holes like craters and our bridges are falling down. Our electric grid is from the 50s and our communication system from the same era. Our internet the slowest while it cost the most. A family in Florida (The Sunshine State) was arrested recently because it had the audacity to live off the grid, which apparently is illegal. Floridians exist solely for the benefit of "Florida Power and Light" our power provider. I am not allowed to buy my own solar panels but may order them FROM Florida Power and Light who will install them on my roof and lease the panels to me, and will charge ME for whatever power I use generated by THEIR panels on my roof. Are you still there?......This is altogether a different planet. .

http://countercurrentnews.com/...

So I would like an explanation from someone about "this land of the free" myth in which I find myself where everything we do is documented and monitored.....and the police walks around in military gear, and people of color are used for target (shooting) practice by those who wear Jesus on their sleeve.

Thinking of moving to Crimea.......

And think Putin without Erdogan. No more Turkish gas sales as penalty. Co-dependents, for sure. At least for now.

But there is a lot of new gas coming onto market and very little rise in total energy demand. So the world fights knife and rock for the opportunity of expanding one's customer base or of keeping others out of a current market. Think Syria with Iran/Russia on one side and US/EU/Gulf States on the other. It's a pipeline war and nothing else. Neither side cares jack shit about a bunch of wogs in the way of their plans. It's all about access to that lovely monthly gas bill from the EU consumer.

If Syria were to be magically transported to South America tomorrow, would there be any war at all for control of it? No. Pure geopolitical wrangling over a trade route. But it is certainly providing an increased flow of foreign-born workers to a lot of countries and thus upping the pressure on already stressed statistical trends.

Everybody has their own perceptions, Mr. H.

Mine is that the Russian puppet that says no to a Gulf Arab pipeline and the Western puppet ISIS fighting to overthrow the guy who says no are doing so at the ultimate behest of their masters, no matter what they think their own motives may be.

This all goes back to the US fracking revolution, which shattered a stable global energy kleptocracy and took a large chunk of the largest market in the world offline to these pirates. This left them busily stabbing the shit out of each other for an increased portion of the remaining available customers. Every one of these petro-kleptocracies are built upon the premise of a steady flow of toil-less oil money flowing into their economies. The cash flow figures have turned disastrously downward and put their power in question due to their dropping ability to buy everyone off.

They only have a little time left to turn these numbers around and you can look forward to increasingly desperate measures to hold the petrochemical fort on one side or to take it by storm by the other. 1 fort. Two empires that will die unless they hold that fort. And a burn rate back home that goes tick-tick-tick.

Money makes the world go around, the world go around, the world go around. Money makes the world go around, that gorgeous clinking sound.

My apologies to all to have gotten off on this topic on this thread. I shall now get busy and do something useful with the rest of the day. Happy Weekend to all.

But perceptions contrary to facts are misperceptions - the "Syrian spring" [brought to you by the CIA] really got going around the time of the signing of an Iran-Iraq-Syria pipeline.  That gas would have obviously competed with Russian gas but Assad signed the deal.

No one, least of all me, argues that gas/oil/transit is not a major part of what motivates the players, but the idea that this is the sole interest is simply nonsense.  Israel and its 5th column in the us .gov has long wanted to destabilize and balkanize both Iraq and Syria anyway.

That aside, the notion that the US and Israel are involved in helping foreign mercenary terrorists destroy Syria primarily or solely to get a Qatari pipeline through the smoldering ruins, lousy with people who would impede or destroy such a pipeline - is simply absurd. Particularly as Israel aims to sell its Leviathan gas [and what it steals from Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria] to Europe.  You may as well claim Israel has no interest in Syrian oil.

I appreciate that - but one moment the article talks about 'Americans', the next moment 'workers'. And I doubt there are any stats on working 'illegals'.

H1B visas ruined the industry I worked in for over 30 years, for those Americans who did not need an H1B visa. I hate those visas - but would be interested in knowing what percentage of those visas do in fact lead to naturalized citizens.

These numbers would require a lot of parsing in order to make any real sense out of them. People get old and retire (native born job loss). Their lazy offspring hang out in the basement or have their ass parked in a Masters program someplace, which means that Anastasio has to pick up the slack.

I would further contend that there is a steady drain of native born workers going "dark", which means off-grid to their personal survival estate or onto the cash-and-carry market for their services. Neither of these trends, which could actually be boosting employment, would show up as anything other than native-born losses.

Yep.  You got that right, especially the part about "onto the cash-and-carry market for their services."  Here on ZH, that behavior is being discussed often, at least in the readers' comments section.  But Tyler Durden is ignoring it.

Uh, although I don't disagree with the stats, perhaps one thing to keep in mind is the demographics of a declining birthrate and retiring "native borns".  New arrivals are younger, mostly of working age, and came to the USA to work and better their lives.  It would be a more balanced report if it also showed unemployment rates of foreign vs. native born Americans.

Actually it has plenty to do with monetary policy.

Growth of the money supply has not, in fact, been reduced much from the levels seen in the 1970's. Any serious attempts to do (like those of the Volcker Fed) would have brought the fractional-reserve banking system and the welfare-warfare state crashing down.

What was done instead was to outsource as much factory work as possible to Mexico and Asia, and recruit immigrants, legal and illegal, for the jobs that could not yet be outsourced or computerized. Outsourcing and open door policies stopped wage growth stone dead, and price inflation with it.

Enter the credit-fueled bull markets in stocks and real estate of the past 35 years, and the massive shift in income and wealth away from American workers in favour of usurers with no loyalty to anything but their bank accounts.

Hi rejected, you make interesting posts too.  :-)  G.O.D.'s assertions don't matter - all of us are mis-informed to some extent or another, some more than others...., but how can one tell???  ;-D  Confession: my first college degree is Psychology, and I'd enjoy having G.O.D. on my couch, so to speak.

(A long-time friend sent me something yesterday morning from his galpal: I'm not saying I was a bad girl last night, but Satan woke up on my couch this morning and he won't make eye contact with me.)

hehehe

Where was I??  Ah, denying assertions.  The purpose of education is (used to be) replacing an empty mind with an open one.  There is no "right" or "wrong", there is LIFE and DEATH.  I'm alive, lunch is down the hatch, the sun is shining, back to work outside for me.

ICE Records Reveal Steep Drop in Worksite Enforcement Since 2013

The Obama administration has largely abandoned efforts to enforce the laws against hiring illegal workers, according to internal ICE statistics. In the first five months of this fiscal year, ICE conducted just 181 workplace audits and brought charges against just 27 employers. This is a small fraction of the worksite activity ICE completed in 2013, when more than 3,000 companies were audited and 179 employers were arrested. The number of employer fines collected by ICE also has dropped by more than half since 2013. The administration's near discontinuation of worksite enforcement means that employers now face very little risk in hiring illegal workers and have little incentive to abide by the law.

Teach For America Pledges to Recruit More Latino Teachers by Griselda Nevarez, NBC News Oct 22 2015

"We know that teachers who share the background of their students can have a profound additional impact," Carrizales said. "Latino teachers have a significant opportunity to serve as role models for their students and to build strong relationships with families through their shared culture and language."

The pledge by Teach For America to recruit more Latinos is in response to the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics' 25th anniversary call to action.
Teach for America has also recruited recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, a federal program that allows undocumented youth who came to the United States as children to stay and work temporarily. Carrizales, who was once an undocumented student herself, is now Teach for America's Director of DACA Corps Member Support.

the first wave of immigrants in the 1880s to the early 1900s had the useful purpose of working in the plants of the usa industrial revolution. even so, the huge influx of foreign workers kept wages low until the rise of the unions protested the open immigration policies. today the immigrant serves the same purpose of keeping wages low but the greater intent is to equalize the world's major economies by lowering the standard of living in first world countries(usa, eurozone and japan) while raising the standard of living in the developing world, especially china. the new america is the 2 junker working family renting a two bedroom apartment with 2 kids on wic and snap for the family.

I don't know about any "first wave of immigrants" in the 1880s, LOL, but the US still had a million square miles to finish taking from the native Indians, railroads to build, and whatnot.  Ten continental states were added 1889-1912:

Over in the UK they do manage to keep adding jobs, but nearly all open position are taken my immirants, migrants, illegals, refugees and those allowed in under EU open borders. The native Britain plays almost no role in the job markets. With millions on social welfare payments, the UK still allows new comers to take nearly every job that opens. Employers say that native born Britains are mosre often than not unsuitable as workers. Not educated, not motivated and understanding little about responsibility. Simply put, the UK takes a new born child, educates them, socializes them, subjects them to media, and by the time they are 21 years old and ready for labor markets, they are "unsuited to work", as employers state over and over. The native Britain comes out of the system a mentally and socially crippled unemplyable welfare subject.

Reason is the immigrant will often take a substantial wage cut because when they have earned enough they can go home with a half decent stash of cash for a far lower cost of living.

I work with 2 Poles and 1 Hungarian who are doing this, they undercut the labor market, just UK born slaves can't get out - THAT'S THE TRUTH. As for skills can honestly say, with all the neocon behaviour I purposefully restrict the capability I put into the neocon system because I know and have seen it will be used by the neocon against me.I will train nobody now to do the work I do,I  will not give anything I personally develop to do a better job all for the day the neocon screws me over.

Leave the neocon with the immigrant to see what they can do, not bothered at all.

Now being a UK citizen I demand my government do this though and really fuck up this system "they will not of course".

Buy millions of homes in Poland and Hungary then pack all those on welfare over their halving the UK benefit cost and NO RENT NEEDED BECAUSE YOU OWN THE PROPERTY. Those immigrants are now fucked because the money they need now starts to rise making it unviable to do what they are doing because they need more to purchase a home in their own country. Even better build prison over their and ship out the criminals to purpose built jails with a far lower cost base. SAVE LOADS OF WONGA ...

At the moment though the real situation and in play is immigrants are the only growth of many developed economies and NO UK OR ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT can prevent it without collapsing the economy so it will be more and more just to keep the growth economy on the road.

They linked population growth to Keynes, they even quote that immigrants grow the economy and we all know they will never revoke Keynes because they do not have the money to do it. So it will continue ... As for employable, maybe in the future I will make IED's for some group somewhere because if it pays a wage I don't care no more living in a supressed wage economy and can be no moral argument. BOOM! I am too old to really care now, just keep skilling up with new tech, physical training is a must for the day I may have to fight the mercs and for sure not afraid. YOU CAN'T KILL SOMEONE TWICE FIRST TIME DID IT.

1000 thumbs up.  You are not alone, not even close.  Speaking of IEDs, it's going to become a cottage industry in America.  The US .gov needs to relearn why America was formed.  Like you, I am too old to give a damn.  I just want the youth to know, when they decide to take back their freedoms there will be 10s of thousands of old coots willing to help.

The US MIC created ISIS.  ISIS is teaching the world how to kill and maim the big elephants in the room one small piece at a time.  An arm here, a leg there, an eye for an eye.  The problem the US .gov has is the image of themselves they are creating.  They are showing Americans they will drone and kill women, children, innocents all without compunction.  Then they compound the problem by showing the military boots on the ground that they don't give a damn about them.  Get your arms and legs blown off, fuck you that's ur problem.  Yah when the military/police start getting arms and legs blown off in American and they have no compensation or help after that, the forth turning will have arrived.

Sat, 12/05/2015 - 20:59 | 6881644 Kprime

Natives are unsuited for "legal, registered" work.  This is because they have learned the .gov takes about 80% of their earnings through direct and indirect taxes, fees, licensees, regulations etc.  The new comers haven't learned this yet.  They are still content to live 50 to a house and live on doles and credit along with the little money they keep from their wages.

The problem .gov faces is the future.  In the future when these "imports" figure out how messed up it is they have centuries old ways of dealing with it...Like corruption, bribery, and eventually war with the government.  Like we just saw in San Bernardino.

You think americans are sleep at the wheel?  You think they aren't fed up?  Where do you think that nearly 100 million non workers have gone?  A huge number of them have stepped off the merry go round and are doing just fine.  Why do you think the US .gov has to print nearly half it's budget?  100 million of us paying no taxes perhaps. lmao

Find some natural bacterial infection, treat it with all the antibiotics and cures known to man. Speed up the process only keep the survivng bacteria.

In the end you end up with super bacteria that nothing can treat.

What the chart tells me and same for the UK you got more foreign consumers in the economy. This extra consumers they are passing off as growth when if you tightened down on immigration that growth disappears.

The system will take any growth it can get in a low growth world and do not give a dam what happens to the native born population.

UK promised in the 10's of thousands now hitting 300K+ YOY ... awesome growth you got a big bill coming though  because there is a delay before becoming elligible for benefits in the system.

Ordianry people globally must start to recognise governments and it is all of them with no exception as their natural born enemies. Think that about sums it up be you native or immigrant.

We have too many humans on this planet. We humans are no longer improving our lot by increasing our numbers.  We are too many for the resources, too many for energy and food production sustainability, and just too many for peace of mind. Every ounce of material mined, every drop of water pumped or diverted, every tree burned is now contributing to the destruction of our future. We have passed the tipping point.

Multiplying our numbers on earth no longer accrues a benefit to any society.  Bringing in immigrants no longer accrues to the benefit of any nation.  Over population ruins the quality of life for everyone.  Regardless of why, aberrant behaviors begin to multiply.  There is no way to avoid or stop this.

Advanced, smarter populations know or feel this, perhaps subconsciously, which is why they have curbed their reproduction rates; some even going negative. However, all governments caught in the never ending fraud of their fiat currency/fractional lending/ponzi schemes cannot allow the population to shrink. The ponzi trap they conceived requires them to continue to artificially inflate everything. Never ending growth is their mantra.  Huh, as if that were physically possible.

They are compelled by their own stupidity to import ever growing numbers of foreigners, legally or not. These foreign human imports come from third world countries where they are not educated enough, or intelligent enough, to realize the down side of over population. They do not understand the benefits of zero, or negative, growth.

Governments are predominately self serving sociopaths. Like drug or gambling addicts, they will not stop the never ending “growth” insanity until their countries implode or explode.  Like Easter Island. They completely decimate their own resources building statutes to themselves.  After time, all that remains are barren deserts sprinkled with stone testimonials. Testimonial images of the stupid ones, that all future visitors might remember the faces which wrought such destruction.

Perhaps someday humanity will learn that leaders who engage in endless war, pile stones ever higher, and press their own images in stone and paper, always destroy their nations.  Many times they destroy the very value of their habitat.

From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_B._Calhoun

John B. Calhoun (May 11, 1917 – September 7, 1995) was an American ethologist and behavioral researcher noted for his studies of population density and its effects on behavior. He claimed that the bleak effects of overpopulation on rodents were a grim model for the future of the human race. During his studies, Calhoun coined the term "behavioral sink" to describe aberrant behaviors in overcrowded population density situations and “beautiful ones” to describe passive individuals who withdrew from all social interaction. His work gained world recognition. He spoke at conferences around the world and his opinion was sought by groups as diverse as NASA and the District of Columbia’s Panel on overcrowding in local jails. Calhoun's rat studies were used as a basis in the development of Edward T. Hall's 1966 proxemics theories.

Speaking as a scientist, looking objectively at the policies and behavior of the human species of all the diverse cultures, they clearly all have the implicit goal of maximizing human biomass, especially the humans most controlled by primitive cults, eg islam, catholicism, etc.

Any species that maximizes its biomass inevitably must exhaust its ecosystem and its population will crash. All the other species are praying for the humans to fulfill their fate.

In this part of the country employment is dominated by the big T chicken empire. Over the last couple of years they have imported over 300 Somalian "refugees" to work in the local plant. The nearby town had a population of about 1100 mixed white and hispanic. The locals say you know it's bad when the Somalis run off the Mexicans. Most people now drive to the next town over to shop because they say it looks like downtown Mogadishu on main street. A lot of middle management at the plant has been replaced by interpreters and the white folks in town are told that the plant is not hiring. They have converted a break room into a prayer room that faces Mecca. When there is any sort of dispute the white guy invariably gets reprimanded or fired for not being PC. Every one of the imports has an EBT card at the grocery store and a Medicaid card at the doctors office. Funny thing is that everybody has Jan. 1 as their birthdate on their ID. I thought that I had moved far enough into the boonies to get away from the nonsense, but I guess I was wrong.
