Putin Accuses US Of ISIS Oil Coverup

Tyler Durden's picture

Last Wednesday, the Russian MoD delivered a lengthy presentation which contained compelling visual evidence of a connection between Islamic State’s illegal and highly profitable trade in stolen Iraqi and Syrian crude and Turkey. Here are some highlights:

After loading up with oil, a truck convoy in east Syria heads toward Turkey in direction Al-Qamishli:

October 18: in the Drer-ez-zor region a satellite imagte reveals 1772 oil trucks:

November 14: in the Tavan and Zaho regions, in the zone where coalition forces are active, one can see a gathering of oil trucks:

November 28: in the region Kara-Choh on the territory of an oil refinery one can see 50 oil trucks:

The routes of alleged oil smuggling from Syria and Iraq to Turkey:

A substantial part from east Syria enter a refinery in Batman, Turkey (100km from the Syria border):

The slide show, hosted by Deputy Minister of Defence Anatoly Antonov, featured photos of oil trucks, videos of airstrikes and maps detailing the trafficking of stolen oil. It was the latest PR snafu for Erdogan who is struggling to convince Turkey’s allies that The Kremlin’s accusations are unfounded and that Ankara isn’t set to put NATO in an awkward position by effectively instigating a shooting war with Russia.

Washington came to Erdogan’s defense in the aftermath of Moscow’s claims as State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the US is confident that Ankara “is not complicit in Islamic State oil smuggling.” Russia seemed to take that denial in stride, but after US special envoy and coordinator for international energy affairs, Amos Hochstein, said on Friday that the amount of oil smuggled into Turkey from Syria is "of no significance from a volume perspective", Moscow appears to have had enough.

On Saturday, Russia accused the US of participating in a cover-up. “Our colleagues from the State Department and the Pentagon have confirmed that the photo-proof, which we presented at a briefing [on December 2], of the origin and destination of the stolen oil, coming from the areas controlled by the terrorists, is authentic. However, the US claim that they ‘don’t see the border crossings with tanker trucks crossing the border,’ raises a smile, if only, because the photos are still images,”  Major General Igor Konashenkov, a Defense Ministry spokesman said. “We advise the American side to have a look at how the tanker trucks not only drive through checkpoints at the Turkish border, but pass through them without even stopping.

As RT notes, an unnamed US State Department official confirmed to Reuters on Friday that the Russian photos of thousands of oil tanker trucks in Syria were authentic [but] stressed that he hasn’t seen “the imagery of the border crossing with trucks crossing the border, and that’s because [the US doesn't] believe it exists.”

Well, here it is:

"The declarations of the Pentagon and the State Department seem like a theatre of the absurd," the MoD added, before noting that Washington should "watch the videos taken by its (own) drones which have recently been three times as numerous over the Turkey-Syria border and above the oil zones". That, by the way, is an attempt to mock Washington for increasing the number of drones monitoring the situation while failing to actually conduct strikes. Earlier this week, Russia said that despite Washington's claims, the US and its partners are actually not bombing ISIS oil infrastructure or convoys.

In case the above isn't clear enough, here's more from the Russian MoD's Facebook: "When US officials say they don't see how the terrorists' oil is smuggled to Turkey... it smells badly of a desire to cover up these acts."

We have on any number of occasions suggested that Washington has avoided striking ISIS oil convoys in an effort to ensure that the group retains the funding it needs to continue to destabilize Syria and the Assad government (see here for instance) and in order to preserve amicable relations with Ankara which appears to benefit from the trafficking of illegal crude both from Kurdistan and Islamic State.

And so, Russia once again turns the screws on the West in an effort to expose what at this point looks to be a coordinated effort to facilitate the funding of international terrorism via the establishment and maintenance of smuggling routes for some 50,000 b/d of oil looted from fields in eastern Syria and northern Iraq. If the US is indeed complicit in this, it might be time to cut ties with Erdogan because Moscow is on the PR warpath and it's just a matter of time before the smoking gun emerges.

I admire putin in many ways but how has he taken their murder seriously? It was very probably the us or israel. Israel keeps bombing syria to help isis or stop the Hez from getting defensive weapons (isrsrl never shuts up about hezbollsh which, with a fee exceptions in many years, has generally left them aline though isrsel still squats on a small portion...

I know hea outgunned and get that a zio media controls perception - but so far he hasnt shown me hes actually going to defend syria or retaliate against fairly naked aggression.

It is possible that he isn't one. I've taken the time to go back over eberything he has said or written.

If Putin is playing the long game, then achieving the high moral ground, in Europe and somewhat in the U.S., let's him accelerate the fight against Assad's enemies.

Obama, with multiple competing objectives cannot win, especially in defending the slimy murderous clown leading Turkey back into the Dark Ages.

You do realize the majority of killings are done by races that are also killing in their home countries.  (There are a few exceptions of young white men who were turned into monsters by our drug companies).   The Norwegians are armed to the teeth in Norway and, guess what, they don't kill.  Their descendants in the US don't either.

The same races that kill with guns in the US murder and maime with knives and machetes in the UK.  It is immigration that needs controlling, not guns.

Yes, I would agree with that. You need to be a lot more selective about who you let in. However, the society needs to take a good hard look at itself as well. Black people are never going away. You are stuck with them. Nor will the Cubans or the Mexicans or anybody else just leave. Maybe you need to be spending a lot more time learning how to get along rather than learning how to kill each other. For instance, I thinkt he statistic is that by the time a kid is 12 they have watched 35,000 murders. What the hell is that? Is that necessary? Is that 'free speech'?  There have to be limits on what society can tolerate. That is where I think you need to be focusing because jailing them, putting them in ghettos, disenfranchising them hasn't worked. I come from a country that is very, very stable. We don't allow people to carry guns, yet we have citizens from 165 countries living there, overhwlemingly peacefully. So what are we doing that you aren't? Maybe it's time to start asking those questions, don't you think?

Nice to see a lefty slipping in their own BS.  I too, advocate for a far less "tolerant" society.

As to your "overwhelmingly peaceful" coexistance, take a look at the Newton area of Surrey, British Columbia, just outside Vancouver.  East Indians use guns to blow people away there on a very regular basis.  As a Canadian myself, I would love to have a concealed-carry right in this country.  But only for White people.

France, Russia, Chinese, Britain and USA are all major arms merchants to the world so cut out the crap of singling out the USA. Nobody raises a stink in the press daily or weekly about what to do about the carnage on the highways. No scary stories about how the government has to crack down on or further restrict who can get behind the wheel. No one gives it a second thought to get on the interstate let alone the autobahn though the chances of being injured or killed is much higher than gun assaults.

Murderers will get a weapon somewhere. To keep peaceful citizens from being able to defend themselves from criminal assault is depraved.

"When seconds matter the police are only minutes away."

Which is EXACTLY why you need to be careful and surgically precise with your choice of words, when talking about a People and their Regime. E.g. "Jews" or "Israelis", and the Deep State that has hijacked them and uses them as a Flag of Convenience.  That Deep State is ZIONISM, of course.  And at that, a particular flavor that has become synonymous with Globalist amibitions:  REFORM ZIONISM.  The kind that B. Netanyahu and his fellow Lukid party are part of.  The Israeli expansionist Settlers vote Likud, BTW.

Millions of centrist and leftist Israelis do not vote Likud.  Check the vote results of Israeli elections sometime.  And any attempts by them to seek a 'Peace for Land' solution with the Palestinians, gets as far as a ZH-sponsored Fed Inquiry would.

Do some research, lest you do to others, what you accuse them of doing to you:  Unfair and inaccurate stigmatising. Clearly, words matter.  Peace.

Here is my problem with this whole 'being armed' business. America has local police, country police, state police, national guard, a standing army of 1.25 million, helicopters, bomb sniffing dogs, attack dogs, bomb sniffing robots, armoured personel carriers, a population that owns 3 guns on average, yet not once, in any of these terrorist actions has a single gun owning citizen been present to try to take these animals out. Everybody sounds so brave. I challenge anyone to consider standing up with a baretta to an automatic wielding psychopath who is intent on dying. Frankly, it would be a very good way to get yourself killed. But America has a long fascination with guns. After all they were great for killing rattlensakes, mean injuns, commies and all the other 'undesireables' that seem to only haunt America. Funny thing that. And you want MORE guns. Get fucking real. The guns you have are not protecting you, they are putting you at risk. If just one of those people who wants more guns in that society took at look at America from the outside, you would see a society that is absolutely crazed with worry over personal security. It would be an eye opener but I don't believe in unicorns.

The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) released a report in 2014 showing that 92 percent of mass public shootings between January 2009 and July 2014 took place in gun-free zones."

Since conceal carry holders are law abiding, they don't take guns into gun free zones.  Your arguement that America's guns do no good is because you are ignorant of facts.

More than 40% of active shooter incidents that were ended by external means were ended by citizens taking action, and of that 40%, about 8% (3% of total) were due to armed resistance from people other than law enforcement. (See page 11.)

Most end by the shooter committing suicide before anyone can respond, police or non-police.

That's way over your claim of "not once."

And that's not counting the how many shootings were stopped after just a couple people were shot, thus never reaching the "mass" label.

In that one picture, it says there are 1,772 oil tankers. Putin's response should be...."Correction, there are now 1,772 smoking holes in the ground where those tankers once were." I mean, war stimulates the economy, right? If so, and I were Putin, the bomb making factories over there would be running 24x7 and expanding production lines hourly. It's such a target rich environment. I'd be blowing up anything and everything that even resembled an oil tanker. Oh, and announce a no-fly zone over Syria and place S-400 batteries every couple hundred square miles and turn the desert into a scrap metal wasteland as the jets of uninvited countries reign down in twisted hunks of burning metal.

From these and other videos I think it has become clear that Putin's claims to have destroyed thousands of tankers is false.  I think he has hit convoys with thousands of trucks but has only destroyed a limited number in each convoy.  Just look at the videos from Russia, they blow up a couple and that is all.  They use guided missiles not carpet bombs or fire bombs.  In the videos from the ground afterwards it is confirmed that there are burning trucks and undamaged trucks.

What is the purpose of Putin's striving to win some moral victory but with no action.  We all know about the previous war crimes by NATO and Putin harping on semi's with oil.  The NATO countries, or their citizens, do not care.  It is time for Putin to either effectively hit these convoys and sites or complain just to complain.

You think correctly. Remember what the US spokesman said "There is only an insignificant amount of oil involved."

Out of those 5,628 tank trucks, Putin only destroys those trucks carrying the actual insignificant amount of oil. Why waste a good bomb on an empty Turkey truck?

Whether these trucks are still online or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is they are there and the jew-controlled government in America (not my government, that is for sure) is unmistakably supporting terrorists. And by their own idiotic media, the terrorists they fund and support attacked Paris and San Bernardino.

Talk about the theater of the absurd. And then there are jackasses like you that are either so clueless as to miss the obvious point, or you are just a demonic scumbag.

If I was Putin....I would be dropping daisy cutter bombs on the caravans.  The trucks and everything remotely around them would be completely destroyed.  No survivors.  These are as good as nuke's without the radio active residue.  Very cost effective. A weeks worth of these and there won't be enough trucks and drivers left to make a caravan.  I think at some point the Russians are going to start using these.  I wonder what our government's reaction will be.  Probably more of the same whining.  We have them (perfect for desert warfare)...why aren't we using them?  This would be a super fast way to bring an end to ISIS.  When ISIS soldiers hear stories of what happens when these are dropped they will shave and seek employment elsewhere.  I have a vision of a lot of white flags.

Incidentally our government is now saying we are out of bombs....what will the next excuse be?  I should watch tomorrow night to see what Obama has to say but I can't stand listening to him anymore.

The concept one group of radicals are 'God's Chosen' people over another group is ridiculous and purely political, even if written in so called 'holy' texts.

Israel stole land based on old scripture and some Muslims are into murdering infidels based on similar propaganda from centuries ago.

Time to get rid of these old texts that people have been brainwashed into believing are holy, the Bible, Koran, Talmud and others have caused more harm than good methinks on this planet.

The neocons love to use these false religions to prop up their justifications for murder.

If one takes the time to carefully realize exactly what a sociopath (psychopath, whatever) really is, and then go back and re-read Genesis about Abraham, you'll understand why a good man, who had later pointed out to others that "the truth will set you free", was crucified. Too bad that centuries later they deified him so that no good man would ever attempt such a feat again.  And this sociopathic is the basis of the three major Abrahamic religions. Sucks.

Context is often overlooked, that is true.  But reconcile this out of KJV

Consider this:

Exo 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Then

Deu 2:33  And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:  Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.

It is not mans place to judge- it is God's.

God, as creator, has the right, both to judge, and to mete out judgment on the wicked as well as the righteous.

Judgment for the wicked may result in their death. There is such a thing as a defective gene pool, for various reasons.

Sihon the Amorite and his people were judged worthy of death by God. They proved their wickedness by refusing to sell food or water to the multitude traveling through the land they lived in. Like many of the peoples in that area at that time, they may have engaged in child sacrifice, incest, and other wickedness. God judged them and his judgement was carried out.

Later, God judged the Israelites as wicked, and they were conquered by the Assyrians. Not long afterwards, God pronounced judgment on the Remaining kingdom of Judah, and they were conquered by the Babylonians.

God's judgment is perfect- and he has the capability to resurrect both the wicked and the righteous, and will do so at the final judgment.

And Putin's main weapon? Just the plain truth. Every time I read or hear some Western spokesman, I think "These are the people who lied to me so many times, I would have to be stupid to believe them now!" I think Vlad isn't actually telling the whole truth, he's playing a game of chicken with the DC clowns. So far Vlad is just talking Turkey, pardon the pun, but imagine instead of pictures of tanker trucks he were showing bank accounts attached to Cheney, the Clintons, the Bushes, etc. I doubt the US media would report it but you can bet it'd be a big deal in other countries.

I agree, the stakes are being raised, but given the dates on the images I am certain that Russia has, in hand, evidence that goes further than just images.

The idea, as I see it, is to increase the stakes until the US takes action to protect its own people and businesses.

The US through NATO are responding by increasing the military pressure but assuming that Team Bear actually has the data, they can choose to reveal at any time so increasing military force is not a functional mechanism to protect the US or its allies from the release of very damaging information.

The terrorists appear to be attempting to open a new delivery route in Northern Aleppo into Turkey. There were 7 cities in the Kurdish area going from South to North right in a line leading up to the border with Turkey. They all received threats to vacate the cities or be attacked. The the FSA, alleged moderate rebels, were one of the groups that made the threat. Sounds like terrorism to me.

Weren't the FSA teamed up with the Kurds recently, among other groups, near Raqqa by the US for a joint attack against ISIS? This whole thing seems to be one giant mess.

If they cut off all the oil being sold someone might have to fund ISIS directly to keep them in business and that might be too risky to openly expose. Although all prior banks that have money laundered for criminals just get let off with a slap on the wrist by their criminal overlords in government anyway. Who knows maybe they'll just start openly admitting they're funding terrorists. After all the endless International law violations haven't seemed to stop anyone from bombing inside Syria whenever they feel like it.

In Syria after WW2 had numerous Nazi butchers including Brunner who ended up in Syria. He participated and apparently advised the former Syrian dictator Hafez Assad. Brunner had taught the elder Assad how to torture. In the ongoing Syrian Civil War, Hafez Assad's son Bashar continues this legacy of terror and torture on an industrial and unfathomable scale. You idiots need to wake up. Putin will maul also what ever he sees fit. A grainery recently feeding 40000 was annialated.
