This Is What Donald Trump Thought Of President Obama's Speech

Tyler Durden's picture

With The Donald once again firmly back in the lead of the GOP presidential nominee race...

He decided that he would "live tweet" President Obama's address tonight on "keeping America safe."

President Obama looked decidely tired...

Here is the full speech...

AP details the speech...

8:23 p.m.

President Barack Obama says the American Muslim community needs to be a partner in the fight against radical Islam.

Obama says Muslims can send credible, effective counter messages and undermine jihadist propaganda.

Obama's remarks were part of a prime-time address on the threat of terrorism and the fight against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria. At least one of the suspected shooters in the past week's massacre in San Bernardino expressed support for the Islamic State online.

Obama is calling the Islamic State "thugs, killers" and a "cult of death." He says they represent a "tiny fraction" of the Muslim community.

The president says the West is not at war against Islam. He is cautioning Americans not to single out Muslims.

8:20 p.m.

President Barack Obama says the U.S. can and must make it harder for would-be mass shooters to kill by making it harder for them to obtain guns.

Obama is giving an Oval Office address on terrorism and the U.S. response following attacks in California and Paris. He's calling for Congress to prohibit people suspected of terrorism or on the no-fly list from buying guns.

Obama says he knows some people reject all gun safety measures. But he says no matter how effective law enforcement and intelligence is, they can't identify every would-be shooter. Obama says it's a matter of national security to prevent those people from getting guns.

Obama has urged stricter gun laws following the California shootings, but like previous mass shootings, those calls have met resistance from gun control opponents. Gun rights advocates oppose the no-fly list proposal because they say it violates the rights of people who haven't been convicted of a crime.

8:15 p.m.

President Barack Obama says he understands why Americans are worried about the threat of terrorism but is reassuring Americans the U.S. will overcome it.

Obama says "we will prevail by being strong and smart." He says Americans cannot give into fear.

8:10 a.m.

President Barack Obama says it's clear the two killers in the California shootings had gone down the "dark path of radicalization."

Obama is giving an Oval Office address on terrorism and the U.S. response following attacks in California and Paris. He's calling it an "act of terrorism designed to kill innocent people."

Obama says the killers had stockpiled weapons and ammunition. But Obama says there's no evidence the killers were directed by a terrorist organization overseas. He says there's also no evidence they were part of a broader network in the U.S.

ome headlines from what appeared very much a repetition of previous vacuous speeches...

  • *OBAMA: `NO EVIDENCE' SHOOTERS DIRECTED FROM TERRORISTS OVERSEAS
  • *OBAMA CALLS CALIFORNIA SHOOTING `AN ACT OF TERRORISM'
  • *OBAMA SAYS GROWING EFFORT TO POISON MINDS ONLINE
  • *OBAMA: THREAT FROM TERRORISM IS REAL, WE WILL OVERCOME IT
  • *OBAMA SAYS U.S. WILL HUNT DOWN TERRORISTS WHEREVER NECESSARY
  • *OBAMA SAYS WILL URGE TECH LEADERS TO WORK W/ LAW ENFORCEMENT
  • *OBAMA REITERATES CALL FOR CONGRESS TO PASS GUN LAWS
  • *OBAMA: LAWMAKERS MUST MAKE IT HARDER FOR PEOPLE TO KILL
  • *OBAMA REITERATES WANTS NEW FORCE AUTHORIZATION ON ISLAMIC STATE
  • *OBAMA SAYS MUSLIM LEADERS MUST OPPOSE ISLAMIC STATE'S IDEOLOGY
  • *OBAMA: IT'S `OUR RESPONSIBILITY' TO REJECT ANTI-ISLAM MEASURES
  • *OBAMA SAYS `FREEDOM IS MORE POWERFUL THAN FEAR'

So, to sum up:

  • Domestically, terrorism is here and we need gun control, internet censorship, to disable encryption, and to work with "Muslim allies" to fix it.
  • Abroad, Congress needs to agree to Obama's demands to do more bombing... because that seems to have worked.

Ron Paul 2016.  Just to fuck over mainstream republicans.  If Trump was the real solution for USA the media would black him out.  Instead their up his ass.  Where's the Rand Paul coverage from ZH?

Right here...

The President tonight continued his failure of leadership and his outrageous quest to turn a necessary discussion on terrorism and national security into an unnecessary and ineffective gun control debate.

Let's be clear: disarming more law abiding citizens will not stop mass murderers and terrorists. We should be advocating for more concealed carry ability for law abiding Americans and an end to unconstitutional gun free zones.

Second, we must fully examine and reform our border security, including refugee and visa programs. While the President paid lip service to this fight, he plans to keep the failed current rules in place and allow tens of thousands of refugees to enter our country.

I couldn't disagree more strongly. Immigration, visas and refugees from countries with active terror networks must have halted while we determine how to better secure our borders and our people.

Finally, we must stop doing the same foolish things overseas that the President advocated for throughout his remarks.

We must stop arming and training allies of ISIS and al Qaeda. We should not double down on this failed and dangerous policy that the President called for tonight. We must arm our allies the Kurds and insist on Arab boots on the ground for our allies in the region.

There are answers here to make our nation safe, but once again the President seems incapable of finding them. His Administration is focused on gun laws that won't stop terrorists while pushing policies that will let more of them in the country. It's 100 percent wrong and proves the need for new leadership for our country.

Hillery only more taxes and more welfare and bigger government.

Better, so much better.

But only because those parties/politicians at least recognise reality and try to work with it, rather than spin a fairy tale we can all live in, and then wonder why everything falls apart.  The failure in recent decades to live in the real world is making things worse, we pretend that we have a future financially while pushing a ponzi scheme, we pretend that all cultures are equal and compatible when the evidence before our eyes shows bad things happen.

On the UK, while I like Farage and he does a sterling job raising inconvenient issues there is the problem of not enough of a party behind him, unlike Trump where he can co-opt support from some sections of Republicans that share his values UKIP is a little too vague for my liking.  I hope it does do well, but I would not be surprised if it disappeared overnight if Farage stopped beating its drum, then we would have just a series of fairly weak nationalist parties/pressure groups left that, in the short term at least, give no democratic voice.

Or. . ."don't want Islamic extremeists shooting up your country," how about not shooting up Islamic countries in the first place. I'm sure those "Islamic extremists" would rather have been home with their families enjoying the cool of the evening. . .except the murderous, insane psychotics who own America blew their countires, their homes, their families, their hopes and dreams to shit some time ago. Well, in that case, kitty-kats, if you ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose. Who can argue with a little payback?

And every time you blame those whose families, whose homes, whose cultures and whose countries have been merciless destroyed time and again by the insane psychotics who own America, you cast your vote for insanity and psychosis. If they can do this to Muslims or to Serbs or to to anyone else who doesn't grovel at their feet, they can--and will--do it to you.

Get your head out of your ass and see who the real enemy is. It ain't Hassan or Omar; it's George and Bill and Barry and Hillary. The only reason they've left you alive is that they're still sucking your blood out of you. Being or becoming their apologists means you're just the brides of Dracula.

While I agree that we should not be shooting their countries up although Islam has been violent against the west long before Bush went into Iraq.  And just to be clear the reason I would give for not shooting their countries up or imposing our way of life on them is that it is not in our national interest to do so, but there is a big problem with the way you treat this guy.

Was he an American?  If someone is Islamic then can they be American if they clearly have loyalty to some country other than America.  He didn't travel from one of these countries under attack, or even live there.  Yet he clearly had allegiance to a country other than the USA and demonstrated this by giving his life fighting for it, ergo he was not American by his own choice and actions.

@Beam Me Up Scotty

Timothy McVeigh never pulled off that vile stunt on his own. He got lots of help. Anyone who figured out the hoax early on got whacked.

http://www.the-office.com/okc-witnesses.htm

A young police officer called Terry Yeakey had the whole thing figured out the same day, so he worked with Dr. Don Chumley to gather evidence of high treason. Both were later killed, Dr. Chumley in a plane "accident," and PO Yeakey was lured in his car to a meeting where he was bound, brutally beaten, knifed, dragged into a field, and shot. His death was ruled suicide.

http://www.examiner.com/article/who-killed-officer-yeakey

Just prior to the OKC atrocity, Officer Yeakey had been accepted by the FBI and was preparing for his move to Quantico. Fat lot of good the FBI did to solve his death.

As for 911 the perps got ahead of themselves yammering about the collapse of building 7 while it was still standing, naming the attackers too soon, pouncing on the Saudi passport that was found in pristine condition while everything else was pulverized, etc. But the cabal didn't have to worry about anyone snitching since they owned all the relevant organizations.

In a sense atheism is also a religion.

God's existence cannot be disproven.

Atheism is therefore a matter of faith.

And just like religion, atheism can be used to control your mind.

Down-voters, I'm not saying that religion is irrational — i.e., contrary to reason — only that it is non-rational in that it is faith-based and therefore only subject to reason within its confines, as in discussing/comparing Judaism, Christianity, or Islam within the confines of the beliefs that attach to each.

Any (but not all) could be true. But human reason cannot access the truth within or among them.

I look at it like this, Dick; They (religions) can't rationally all be right, but it's very possible that they're all wrong.

BTW, ain't it wonderful to be pigeon-holed as atheist for simply admitting that you don't know?

Sounds to me as though you're an advocate of humanism - sorry, but I'll pass on that front as man historically exhibits palpable societal decay when choosing to dismiss a power higher than himself (or herself as to be so ridiculously PC that the world has now become)!

"Over a half century ago, while I was still a child, I recall hearing a number of old people offer the following explanation for the great disasters that had befallen Russia: "Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened." Since then I have spent well-nigh 50 years working on the history of our revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval. But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat: "Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened."" ~Solzhenitsyn~

I'm cool with that. The only question left unanswered within my thinking is: If you don't follow man (cuz we know he inherently sucks), and if religious men have forgotten God (which I think we agree is true) - then I'm curious as to where you might hold the line (or to be more precise, what are your beliefs - outside of yourself - being man)..?

I see that the Operating System is at once obvious, and incomprehensible.

In short, I guess I don't have beliefs.

I kinda like how Jordan Maxwell put it-

I don't know what God is, but I know what God isn't.

My family is very practical about religion.  We do not attend a church but we are Christians. We are Christians because it gives us strength when we are knocked down and it reminds us to be thankful when we are flying high.  Basically our faith gives us comfort, strength, and joy.  This makes our lives better.

If there were millions of other families out there living more fulfilled lives following a different faith, or lack thereof, we would surely read up on it.  But for us, our faith is a very practical, logical choice.  We are stronger with it than without it.

Also, we don't care to impose our values on anyone else, and we certainly don't want anyone trying to force their beliefs on us.

Some people love trotting out a Bible verse to make a point.  I have no problem with that.  The Bible, after all, wasn't written by God and delivered down to earth on a rainbow.  It was written by men and translated by other men.  These ancient men did their very best to record their history, but we are talking about people that had not yet invented forks. I think it is safe to say their understanding of creation and such may have been lacking.  Still, the Good Book is full of beautiful and useful lessons, and it will always have value.

Anyway, each and every person will have to choose for themselves.  That's what makes it interesting.  I just wanted to say, I think you can be religious and also value logic and (real) science.

This is the presentation of a professor whose dissertation topic was on the resurrection of Christ at the University of Michigan

But he was tasked by the chair of his department to NOT prove the resurrection occurred by saying the Bible says so.

The logical process he engages is worthwhile for atheists, skeptics and the faithful alike to listen to.

If you are not drawn in by the first 12 minutes, just turn it off.

O.K. but is God made of atoms and molecules?  Does he follow the laws of physics and chemistry as the rest of the universe does?  Or is he supernatural, like a ghost.  How about cognative abilities-does he have a nervous system?  You see how child-like you have to be to believe in God.  Who designed the "designer"?  Is he older than 13.7 Billion years, the age of the universe?  Did he set the fundamental constants of the universe such as the fine structure constant?

No, religion is organized superstition and its principles violate the observed laws of of physics as my questions above indicate.  No faith is required to either use science or to be skeptical of the supernatural-whether holy ghosts, ghost, or gods.  Most scientists and almost all nobel laurates are religious skeptics also called atheists since religion and science are incompatible.  Only science can falisfy an idea.  Only religion requires faith and willfull ignorance.

You seem stuck in viewing the spiritual world as the physical world.  Faith in science is this:  A huge explosion happened, and out of all that heat a choas atoms formed, all structual, all nearly identical, with various types with various properties.  Then, they magically combine themselves into stable molecules, to creat endless types of matter.  Then, those molecules accidently came together, not only created life, but self replicating life to the extent it became conscious.  It takes more faith to beleive this, and how it all overcame the 2nd law of thermodynamics, than to just conclude that it is all the cause of an outside force.  Which actually puts it all in agreement with the 2nd law of thermodynamics.

I only posted above regarding the graphics, i.e., (1) how many more guns are bought when government threatens to take them away and (2) the negative correlation between gun ownership and the murder rate. Or as novelist William Burroughs famously put it:

"After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn't do it."

Meanwhile, the US government continues its relentless imperialism by fomenting war in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, while Obomber wants to take our guns — http://graphics.latimes.com/videochat-president-obama as he and the Fed flush the economy down the toilet, thereby trashing the middle class and driving its declining members to the edge and beyond.

I would be an American if there were still such a place as America. Instead, I can "entertain" myself with what the vast majority of Americans will watch without a clue:

People scream when .gov threatens to take their guns away. So .gov does what it always does: the passive-aggressive one- or two-degrees of separation rights theft. I can think of no better mechanism to chip away at those rights than starting off with the No Fly list.

I'll even source Fox News for this: 8 ways you can end up on the no-fly list

...It’s the federal no-fly list, a collection of names of people who are not allowed to board commercial flights into or out of the United States. According to leaked documents obtained by The Intercept, more than 47,000 people were on America’s no-fly list as of August 2013. That number reportedly includes 800 Americans, many of whom don’t even know they’re on it. The government sends no official notification to those on the list; many times, people don’t find out until they’re denied boarding at the airport.

A number of high-profile lawsuits have claimed the government unjustly added people to the list and blocked their efforts to have their names removed.  Last summer, a federal court ruled in favor of 13 people who claimed the government violated their constitutional rights to travel by placing them on the no-fly list. The government was ordered to tell the plaintiffs whether they’re on the list, spell out the reasons they are barred from travel, and to give them a chance to challenge the government finding...

Well, OK. No big deal. What are the chances that you're on that list (which has now over doubled to 100K names)? Note that there is no qualifier like address. The name 'Hank Johnson' was purportedly on the list at one time. So it's not 800 American individuals (probably 1600+ by now), but all Americans with that name. "Sorry Hank. We're from the government and we're here to take your guns. No, we can't tell you why. You'll have to get a court order to find out why you're on the list."

Hmmm... OK. You have flown recently and you know you must not be on 'the list' - your guns are safe... for now. What if they extend that gun ownership ban to people on that other list. You know... the one where you get TSA's fucking enhanced Stazi screening every time you fly. It's called the Secondary Security Screening Selection, or SSSS. It's printed right on your boarding pass by the airlines. Now let's say after another suspicious mass shooting by a bearded guy, Obama steps it up a notch and says the gun ban also applies to the SSSS list. Now, like the No Fly list, there is no way to find out if you're on it or why:

"...Neither the TSA nor the airlines publish the criteria that is used when boarding passes are issued to identify passengers who will be given extra screening or be denied boarding..."

Again, that list is just names. There are reportedly tens of thousands of American NAMES on that list, so maybe it affects 200,000 individuals, or maybe half a million. Who knows? So what if your gun purchase registration comes back as rejected because you're on some airline's SSSS list. Will you need a court order just to find out which one and why? Will you have any mechanism for proving to the airline that you're not the terrorist with the same name? Will it take an Act of Congress to get your name removed or get a waiver to register a gun?

While the great and mighty Oz in Washington flaps his gums and gets everyone riled up, they are slowly chipping away at your right to own a firearm from right underneath you. You won't object to the first few oddball ways they take gun rights from a select few, but eventually it will expand to damn near everyone. By then, it will be way too late to get them to roll restrictions back.

Never heard of him (Congress D-GA). The name was used as an actual entry on the list in an article explaining the No Fly list a year or two ago. Makes me wonder if the Georgia Representative has any trouble flying? I just remembered the name because it seemed pretty common. Too common to be on some secret list for reasons it would take a court order to explain. No idea if 'Hank Johnson' is still on the No Fly list (because it's secret). The lists on the internet are all fake.

Seriously, the only way to find out is to try to buy an airline ticket, or for SSSS you have to get a boarding pass to see if your identified as an SSSS target. There is nowhere to call or write to see if you are on either 'list'. If you're an obedient, law-abiding citizen, then you have nothing to fear from the U.S. Stazi and their extra-legal 'lists', right?

Statism is THE religion, and seeks to dominate and make irrelevant all others. Rather than gifts from God, we now have a government "gifting" Americans by taking from others. Obama will seek out as many others as he can find who can be bought, and the cheaper the better, which is why we see so many "immigrants" who come here principally for this one reason...government gifting. Bombing the ME and then creating an open invitation for thousands of "immigrants" who in all likely hood will only hate us for the gifts Obama tries to buy them with.

My take.  No way all this (look around) came about by accidental collisions of sub atomic particles.  Way too many very unlikely accidents and effects.  God created the angels (for companionship, maybe).  One rebelled, and a third rebelled with them (free will creates this paradox).  They all got kicked out forever.  They knew God and the Truth when they rebelled. They are bannished....to earth.  Man gets sent down to the assylum for a front roll seat to see what it is like to be without God.  Once the veil is lifted, and we can see and know the Truth, then we will not do what those who rebelled did.  IMO, this world isn't IT, but it is only the lesson.  No, it is not easy, but without this lesson, you may get permantly separated from God. Of course this takes faith.  It is either something along these lines, or it is just one big fantastic accident.  It takes faith for both.

That is why the scientific community only accepts as fact those ideas which can pass verification through rigorous, reproducable experiment. If you wish for other scientists to accept your notions on something as fact, you will have to provide them with incontrovertible evidence in support of your claim.

As Richard Feynman put it: "It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong."

Religion, by stark contrast, has no such safeguards against baloney, and relies on charismatic speakers and appeals to authority. Moreover, the religious have been unable to offer any reproducable evidence in support of their claims for literally thousand of years. We're entitled to draw some conclusions from that.

You are speaking to what science SHOULD be. The idealistic version which would rationally approach truth through careful experiments and conclusions made from them. Aristotelian. I have found that, in practice, this is not often the case. Add government and big money in the mix and conflict of interests abound.

Religion and Science can use Authority and Respectability to sell you their legitimacy. Either one may not be Truth but they both thrive when believed as such. But, I tend to be a skeptic.

"Perhaps the Vatican kept the Bible in Latin all those years to hide a few things . . . "

that's Martin Luther's "take", yes, in it's simplified, modern form

but we should not forget that Latin was widely used as (second) language for many purposes, from "Lingua Franca", i.e. "common language" of scientists to it's use as the official main legal language of the Austro-Hungarian Empire up to the point it gave up it's claim on being the "Holy Roman Empire" in... the 19th Century

evidence: all traces of Latin in scientific terms, including the official name of our species, "Homo Sapiens Sapiens"

English has taken up Latin's role as the leading scientific language, but only lately, in historical terms

in fact the good doctor Luther was an expert in Latin and ancient Greek, best seen in it's traductions to the "vernacular", i.e. the lesser languages

Wonder why I stopped believing in religion?

I don’t know. I just did it. Couldn’t take it anymore. I guess coming to America gave me the door to leave all behind. Not sure I could have done there, in Brasil. I mean, I could, but probably wouldn’t do it because of family, friends, and society pressure.

Your definition of FAITH is not the same as those that BELIEVE in a GOD.  For your, faith is 5o/50 % probability, for them it is 100%.  You cannot discuss that which you have no experience in.  You make yourself out to be an idiot, +100%.

Atheists believe there is no God . . . which is difficult to prove.  For this reason, atheism is the pinnicle of narrow mindedness.  The other laughable notion is that atheists like you believe you can trust in 'science', which is wholly incapable of describing how our universe came to be.  Beyond this, there are all those things that go <bump> (usually in the night) which cannot be explained without an attribution to the paranormal/supernatural.

here's the Biggest Secret - everything, for humans is a CONCEPT.

Buddhism is NOT a religion.  It can be viewed as having a religious ASPeCT.

Buddhism is the 4 Noble Truths.  This is the process of learning WHAT you are doing existing and WHY you are doing it.

The obfuscation about Buddhism is maddening, because it is so simple in itself.   End result of living the 4 noble truths is Impeccable Behavior.  All major religions SHOULD teach buddhism as a foundation and THEN their own stuff, if they actually wanted to be Excellent Examples of Christianity or Islam, followers of Muhammed ...

GOD is a CONCEPT.   Real is as Real as you Believe it to be.  Ask some Alzheimers people what God is .... gonna send them to Hell ?

Grow UP folks.

I tend to boil down the bull shit whenever possible.

God is love. Pure and simple. Prove is does or does not exist.

I'm waiting.

You believe in something that can never be proven.  That is insane.  Silly is thinking you are intellectually superior to one who sees evidence of God in creation while you scream "that isn't true."

Atheists don't NEED to prove God doesn't exist. They have FAITH that God doesn't exist.

Atheists, much more-so than any Christian I know, are still looking for an "old Man in the sky with a big white beard and a big loud voice" to reveal HIMself.

Beyond that, Atheists have FAITH that the Universe is just a big fucking accident that just kinda sorta 'happened' by itself...

"You see, one day, a point infinitely small, just exploded in a cataclysmic explosion by accident that cast all matter into the furthest reaches of the Universe because......uh, happenstance.....and all that matter came from.......uh....evolution...and it all seems like a Creation when there SHOULD be just complete and total NOTHINGNESS but we KNOW there is no Creator!"

Why are atheists so crabby all the time? Sometimes I think they just need a good dinner, fine wine and a great fuck.

they're crabby because they have no hope that it gets better than THIS suffering plane... (I don't think even THEY really believe Man can successfully set up "It's A Small World" on a global scale...Shit, we can't even get it together on a FAMILY level left to our own devices.)

...and because they've set MAN up as the measure of the Universe....talk about Eternal disappointment!

Beyond that, A's compensate with all the "fine wine, great food and fuck" they can handle..."All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me. (or the World, or Man or Money/Power....anything as long as it ISN'T God)"

Wise men know that the temporal kicks of this world aint enough....

I've found that at funerals, atheists are the ones crying the loudest. . .  It's a great litmus test for me as to what others believe.  Observe them @ a funeral for someone that used to be part of their lives.

"Atheism is not a "religion" by any metric". Really? You have irrefutable proof that there is no God? Really? If not, then it is your BELIEF and as such, it is in fact a religion, a religion of a non-god universe. So what makes your non-god better than my belief in my version of God?

Your a mental midget in logic, dumbass. If you think you are so smart look at the beliefs of the greatest geniuses of all time, Einstien, Newton, Da Vinci, Faraday, Michelanglo, Beethoven, Dostoevesky, Descartes, Kant, Goethe, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, etc (I can go on and on). Think you are smarter than those guys?

leaving aside the issue as to whether a-theism is the same as religion [theism] or if the word is being manhandled...

There's a difference between militant atheism and just objecting to the fairytales of the Abrahamic religions heaving power over you via the state.

In the more abstract - the only sensible position epistemologically is agnosticism - which is atheism as a practical matter.

I'd say that the end-of-the-world Death Cult whether Jews looking for Moshiach, or American Protestants hoping for world war 3 so jesus can come back is far more obnoxious than someone who knows the difference between belief and knowledge.

Denying God's existence might be like denying you have a nose because the existence of God is overwhelmingly obvious.

Can science make one living thing? No because first they would need to create the elements needed to make the living thing. They can do neither. Yet the universe is filled with all sorts of living things.

Man cannot make a single element if they have to start from nothing. Look around you, there is plenty of everything - none of which was created by man in its original state.
