China Chokes As Beijing Issues "Red Pollution Alert" For First Time Ever
Just a week after Beijing's major literally had his head saved, thanks to a cold front which swept away some of the worst pollution ever, the city has raised the alarm once again.. but this time to a record level. For the first time ever, the municipal government has issued a so-called red pollution alert - imposed car bans and suspending schools - after acrid-smelling haze returned to the Chinese capital.
Beijing mayor, Wang Anshun, vowed last year, as JapanTimes reports, that if pollution wasn’t brought under control by 2017, he would cut off his own head and present it to the country’s leadership.
Time to sharpen up that ax again...
The "airpocalypse" of smog swirling over Chinese cities has reached its most dangerous levels yet. Gizmodo explains...
And here are some stills...
Now you see it...
Now you don't...
Local authorities upgraded the air pollution alert to red from orange, effective from 7 a.m. Dec. 8 to noon Dec. 10, according to a statement on Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau’s official Weibo Monday.
Some industrial companies must stop or limit production, outdoor construction work will be banned and primary schools and kindergartens are advised to cancel classes, the statement said. Even healthy people should try to avoid outdoor activity and choose public transportation.
“The red alert shows the local government has stepped up efforts to protect citizens from pollution,” said Dong Liansai, climate and energy campaigner at Greenpeace East Asia. “It’s probably because of pressure from the central government.”
Clear skies aren’t expected again until after the smog peaks Wednesday, according to the China National Environment Monitoring Center.
Monday’s bad air, coupled with five days of hazardous pollution on Nov. 27-Dec. 1, raised fresh concern about the government’s ability to tackle air quality despite repeated statements from leaders that cleaning up the environment in the country is a top priority. Last week, the concentration of fine particulates that pose the greatest risk to human health rose to 666, more than 25 times World Health Organization-recommended levels.
But who was to blame?
The latest round of bad air was the result of “factory discharges and unfavorable weather conditions,” the state-run China Daily reported, citing National Meteorological Center Senior Engineer Xue Jianjun. China will strengthen inspections of polluting factories, Environmental Protection Minister Chen Jining said, according to China Daily.
China urged local governments to start emergency measures to cope with the pollution, according to a statement on the Ministry of Environmental Protection on Sunday. Emissions from automobiles are the main contributor to Beijing’s smog, the ministry said on Dec. 1.

Today appears no better either as at 7am, the air quialityindex is already at extreme highs...
And so begins the first air pollution red alert in Beijing history. At 7am air quality index is 371 #COP21 pic.twitter.com/Jksko7yN68

And finally, as we have expressed numerous times, SCMP's George Chen raises a very valid question...
I begin to wonder how Beijing's first "red alert" (highest) on #airpollution may get quarterly economic growth to slow down even further...
— George Chen (@george_chen) December 7, 2015
Because who can blame them for weak economic performance when they are "saving the world... from its deadliest threat.

Well, now we know what happens when you jam a century's worth of industrial revolution into a decade.
Can you say, Currency Reserve Status and IMF? Winning!!
We should start calling them "Brown China".
too many chinese.
They need to use more of those little rubber sheaths.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDBjsFAyiwA
Too many damn Chinese indeed. The least civilized people in all of Asia.
Cloudy with 50% chance of acid rain.
"There's something in the mist!"

Amount of money spent by China on the environment......ZERO.
Totally not going to happen.
Come see me when they do....maybe we can free up a couple bucks.
They're too busy buying gold....cause they're smart.
Actually, the Chinese do buy scrubbers for the smoke stacks, so they get their environmental subsidy. However, they either never install them because they reduce efficiency, or they never maintain them because it costs money.
I'll bet those scrubbers make some pretty damn fine paperweights.
Where's Mao when you need him? Pollutural revolution! Run the swines back out into the country and turn off the electricity. Thadall teach'em.
What a total lie..........
The scrubbers are all about optics since as was pointed out since they are never used or maintained properly nor does the government do enough verification of actual emissions.........it's commercial pollution, not vehicles that is the real cause of Beijing's daytime eclipse.
Troll Magnet. Least civilized indeed. My wife is of Chinese heritage but was born in Singapore. She makes sure that every time she travels, people know she's a Singaporean. When you go to other countries in Asia, they are sick and tired of, as they put it, PRC's coming in and acting like barbarians.
Just a week after Beijing's major literally had his head saved
There were a bunch of captains and lieutenants who were pretty chuffed too.....!
There is this thing called proof reading.....try it some time!
Citizenisms rejoiice in your red freedom, the progress comes with certain undesirable consequences which cannot be spoken of in loud manner.
Didn't think that was an oldschooler reference, but i haven't seen unanon? in a while... lol
for american citizenship...
I stand on the crosswalks over the busy intersections in China and just watch the traffic with amazement. I'm equally amazed that my Chinese associates, do not find it as entertaining as I do. Watching cars, busses, scooters, taxi's of all shapes doing whatever they want, going whichever direction they want...comical.
I turn to my friends and say "what this guy is doing (as I point to some dude making a crazy left hand turn) can't be legal...is it?" They laugh, and say, there are rules, but no one cares. "This is China" they tell me. There is zero enforcement...you will NEVER see anyone getting a ticket for any violation.
Then, the driving habits become...you must cheat, because everyone else does, and if you don't you will never make your left hand turn, or right hand, etc.
The same is true with smog laws. It's the culture of 'rules don't really matter'. It's not unique to China...but when you put 10 to 20 million people in the same city...it starts to matter. a lot. It's not like they live in a village anymore where it didn't really matter if you burned your trash. Now...it matters.
While I'm at it...I KNOW there are laws against just dropping your kids pants and letting them shit on the sidewalk...then just walking away as if you sneezed. But...everyone just ignores the mother. This is disgusting and I'd almost rather them enforce this rule than smog rules.
Don't forget the car horns announcing all of the dangerous driving! !
On different note, the solar panels to reduce emissions won't work well ithis weather. About 1/3 of Chinese hot water is from residential solar water heaters. There are a lot of cold showers in Beijing right now :-(
Are there laws prohibiting it? Mrs. Stengel and I would see grandmothers letting little kids piss on the floor inside our apartment building. We would get on an elevator and see a little yellow puddle on the floor. We adapted to most everything else but kids pissing on the floor was more than we could assimilate. Maybe it will change if the IMF/BIS tells them they have to fix this before they can be a reserve currency.
Driving in Cambodia is no better, I was in a car when the driver made 2 U turns (a 360) in the middle of a busy street but the only place I had to step over shit on the sidewalk was in San Francisco.
I saw the kid shitting on the middle of the sidewalk thing in Jiangmen, a "smaller" (only about a million people) city abouot an hour out of Guangzhou. Absolutely disgusting place. I was with my brother-in-law (ethnic Chinese from Singapore but a US citizen now) and we're walking down the street when this kid just up and squats and puts out a load in the middle of the sidewalk. And the people the kid is with are encouraging him to do it. We look around and no one is complaining or even suggesting the parents (assuing they were the parents) should pick it up. Utterly disgusting.
And for people who think the outdoor pollution is bad, try going indoors, even to many upscale restaurants. Smoking is not prohibited in many restaurants in China. If they happen to have low ceilings, the air inside looks just as bad as some of the pictures posted in this article.
I've been to half a dozen cities in China. I would love to visit more because of the history and the scenery that's there. But I told my wife, and she agrees, that unless behavior and hygiene improve there, it's just not worth it to visit China again.
It's got electrolytes.. I'll bet that picture/video was taken by Obunga himself.
Those carbon credits must be obtained at any cost.
COP21 | United nations conference on climate change
I'm buying Jamie Dimon an extra defective toaster, wrapped in (2) Batman towels this year. ha
Down with the commie EPA, America should be free to produce this smog too!
Bullish..
The EPA can give cover to industries that wish to pollute. All they need to do is buy enough regulators.
Proper redress would be through the court system, and not some unconstitutional agency.
pods
I agree in theory, but in practice such lawsuits are just factored into the cost of doing business. As long as the execs can avoid jail time, and the profit for the corporation exceeds the penalty, they will continue to pollute. Plus how to you put a cost on early death due to pollution?
Why is that Obama did not fire EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for the EPA's poisoning the rivers in three states last summer?
Enivronmental activitist Erin Brockovich said she was shocked by the EPA's actions leading up to the release of waste tainted with heavy metals, as well as its response afterward.
As long as big government administrators can avoid jail time, and there is no penalty for them, they will continue to pollute?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3227585/Woman-inspired-hit-Julia...
all Obama & co have to do is have a quiet ad on tv showing Bejing. 3 or 4 pictures would do. enough about climate change or global warming.
Show LA from 10,000 feet approaching LAX on a bad day, or Phoenix.
However, the fix is alreadyin place--the massive declien in the US economy and global economy. look how much truck traffic has been cut. How much manufacturing has been outsourced (so we are the cause of hte problem in China)
personally I though a better strategy was to use all of the mid east oil, keep ours, hten let everybody else go pound sand (so to speak) while our military woudl protect us and our oil and grain.
The EPA sent out a memo telling its employees not to shit in the hallway.
GODDAMMIT! Can't we fucking low-life Americans double our individual energy costs, pay ass-loads of taxes to a Global fucking body (with no regulations upon itself), to buy those poor bastards some fucking imaginary carbon credits from Al Gore?
Their air will become cleaner than the lily-white driven snow. FFS
Let's all (just one more time) emmerse ourselves in the stratospheric "deep think" wisdom of one Thomas Friedman of the NYT's:
"There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today.
One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. (Edit: lmao! and what would those be Tommy?) But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century."
Fucking Forward!...lol.
Did't the EPA just poison an entire river system?
It's surprising that people don't freak about this or leave. That shit will take 20 years off of your life.
That's the upside.
The people who could afford to leave already have.
Not to worry. They have plenty of spares.
Thermal oxidizers. Big ones preferably. Running the way they are made to would be nice.
I know THE GUY. He will clean all that shit up fast.
"Limit production? We've already gone to defcon level 5 code red! Arrest the unpatriotic traitors!" -Vice Public Security Minister Meng Qingfeng
Seems like "no smoking" signs would be pretty irrelevent over there in the restaurants
Peak pollution.
Acid fog.
must be heating their ghost towns and houses with US Dollars....
never let a worthless currency go to waste...
China Jew cousins, for the love of money.
Gosh, with a newly founded Chinese 'EPA', they could become compliant, or fined into compliance, or publicly shamed into complianc, or whatever.
They need to be MONITORED! g-dammit!
How much of their crap floats over Japan, and then affects North America's shores...measured by CA's own leftist enviro-nuts, who then include this data into their own stats for the USofA?
Let's put Gina McCarthy on a strict Pacific Ocean fish diet for awhile.
Got 20/20/20 vision?
I guess this would a good reason to pack up and move to one of those Ghost cities. Oh, and to hide if you're a political dissident.
Here comes another CDC outbreak of SARS. They have a new medical drug to combat this. Someone is waiting to sell a lot of platinum and catalytic converter's. In the effort to combat Climate change. Fucking idiots on the media will eat this up.
Another wind down toy in the makings.
Thomas Friedman's division of labour
or..... that polution would be in the USA
The world may be flat but it's starting to roll up in the corners
I'm glad King O meted out a shit ton of "carbon credits" to china's coal plants.... while he eviscerated Appalachia.
Sure would be nice if somebody'd dump him down an old abandoned shaft...
Damn that place is a shithole. The market isn't looking too great either, maybe since they are black bagging bankers that's a sign that their market is about to dump a notch again.... when people start disappearing in the financial world people get a little edgy about selling.... in theory.
What a fucking farce. I grew up in Southern California basin, as part of my childhood.
Yes, smog and fog look similar, but smog is a result of atmospheric heating combined with Geographical Topography.
Those Chinese are wearing JACKETS, in the pictures. What fucking joke!
JPMORGAN is shitting their globalization model on free China shit and reward cards to monitor buying behavior.
let them stew in it. those turds wouldn't give a flying fuck less if it would just blow away toward someone else. enjoy it ya freaking retards.
On the bright side, thick smog makes it easier to disappear bankers.
It takes a lot of factories to supply Americans with cheap shit bought on endless artificial credit.
Endless?
15:00 USD Consumer Credit (Oct) 15.98B 20.00B 28.57B
It's called Externalizing the costs.
Red China, Red Alert!
Mao would tell everyone to go outside and breath deeply to help the motherland, I guess they're getting soft now.
China just needs more electric cars to disperse water vapors from tailpipe. Why this, we can purchase spacesuits to breathe oxygen by killing off CO2 levels. Trees create oxygen based off our CO2. China has turned into a urban concrete block. It deserves it's own concrete jungle fate. Attract, build, finance, monetize, tax, and repeat process. That's why are society is so fucked up. Ivy League schools are recycling the failed footprint for failure. Finance and build should be switched. I don't really care. My typo. Why do you think they have unsustainable ghost cities?
How many trees are needed to provide enough oxygen for one ...
"China just needs more electric cars..."
300 million cars plug in at night.
Coal Powerplant works over time....
That was funny.
Imagine if they weren't using clean coal?
Tesla batteries? Tesla recalls?
You somethings, make me laugh. VIN Recall Search | Tesla Service
Imagine if they wouldn't have built the housing units for the billion extra people that don't exist.
Of course the then the lies about China couldn't be told and the Tribe wouldn't have been able to make trillions off the BS.
Don't forget, you can buy a shipping container to convert into a home. What a beautiful way to liquidate all assets. The tree hugger jumps on living in a dumpster. Win win situation.
Atomizer: Don't forget, you can buy a shipping container to convert into a home.
yea, I just bought 4 - 20 footers.....shit .....................32x20 foot bulletproof garage for under 6K? What's not to like about that?
China's vacuum-cleaner artist turning Beijing's smog into bricks
The Red Communist leadership is raising a "Red Pollution Alert"... now that is poetic justice...
Its like breathing some fucking sand. I couldn't believe it until I experienced it.... 3 days were enough to start caughing like crazy. Wow, still can't understand how people can live there.
I guess the NWO doesn't have to work on population control. All they have to do is convince everyone that living in a city is awesome, and let them kill themselves.
You all know that shit doesn't just stay there. It circles the globe, andwhat with Fuck-you-shima, in the whole N. hemisphere, we're all swimming in toxic shit. Choose your poison...
Why does it say "Chins chokes"? It should be "Beijing chokes".
I'm in Qingdao and we had blue skies and sunshine all day.
Typical disinfo article. Take a limited situation, present it as the situation everywhere, profit.
Yellow journalism at its best.
Because it happened in.... Belgium? No wait..... I can do this.....
It happened in....... um...
in......China?
Yeah! There you go, that's the answer........ because it happened in China. That's why it says China. Or Chins. Or whatever.
On this issue here is what Terminator has to say :

Breathe in the air
BTW i got no say on this article except asking ZH how fun this sounds to coincide with COP 21: UN climate change conference | Paris?
Seriously,is china playing global warming scam for globalist? Is there Hollywood special effect on the air?
Meanwhile, everyone in the US will get fucked and regulated out of what mfg is left, skyrocketing electric bills, etc and places like China will still look like a bomb just went off 50 years from now.
In country that has money and people to fuck over is a target for destruction until absolutely nothing is left.
Maybe when the TPP is finalized, China can sue Walmart.
Everyone in places like the US bitch about what a shithole China is, while they sit in a house with 90% of the shit in it made in China. So basically, we want cheap, inferior shit and sacrificed another countries people to get it. Of course, it wasn't the consumers ideas to ship off all their jobs and be left with nothing but low paying service jobs to where they can't afford anything but cheap chinese shit to begin with. Now, suddenly, low paying service jobs are on the chopping block.
"free trade" sucks.
Look exactly like Taiwan when I lived there 23 years ago.
Look exactly like Taiwan when I lived there 23 years ago.
You can say THAT, again!
wung cancer wates rowing rup
China has been exporting a lot pollution .Do people really think that somehow it all stays in China.Even in diluted form it will it will fuck up the rest of the world.
Really? Did we "fuck up the world" 35 years ago? If stats are correct the average age has increased since the 1970's. I'm not saying it doesnt suck but it is also a handfull of cities that look like this, it's not as if this is representative of all of China.
Globalists are delighted
Damn Chinese, is there anything they can't make more of cheaper?
Long Live organic American made woodstove pollution
Agreed.but not too fast...our local government here on Vancouver Island would love to BAN indoor woodstoves...they've already banned all outdoor bonfires or burning PERMANENTLY
"acrid-smelling haze"
Heh.
They LOVE their cars (just like Amerikans) and that's the last thing they will abandon...
