For individuals who went without insurance in early 2015 although they were eligible to enroll, the average household penalty in 2016 will be $969 – a 47 percent increase over the average estimated penalty of $661 this year, according to a new analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

I'd like to think the patient is Jonathan Gruber.  He's still on the "terminate with extreme prejudice" list when the reset comes.

To his credit, at least 'ole Hans Gruber ('Clay --- Bill Clay...') came out & said what the scam was all about, least of which was 'affordable' health care.

"i dunno, my corporate masters provide my insurance."

But you completely own the high deductable!

FWIW: Health insurance still comes out of your pocket. Via no wage increases or they deduct it from your paycheck. its a lose-lose for everyone!

Yes. My understanding is there were several people who started paying earlier this year, as they are independent contractors/sole-proprietors who opted to pay the fine, and hence on their first quarter taxes, they paid the fine.

I seem to recall that Obama actually attempting to contradict them publicly, saying that the fine wouldn't be due until 2016, but his case works for people who don't pay quarterly, not for "normal" (non-corporate-slave) people who pay quarterly.

Yes, holding my nose.  I chose to pay the penalty rather than have "insurance" at $8K -$9K per year.  Not a difficult calculation if your health is good, you eat carefully, and you avoid high-risk activities.

Controlling health care costs is all about controlling your health. For my families sake I switched us to organic and got off all the chemical crap and GMOs. I haven't been sick once since then - 8 years. I consider it my "Escape from the SickCare Industry"

Of course as a self employed person, I keep a high deductible plan "just in case" and although I haven't pulled my insurance card out of my wallet in 8 years my premiums still go up 20+% a year.

I don't think anyone pays the fine as an individual item, it's all hidden in the irs mumbo jumbo. If you have to pay taxes on April 15th its that much more. If you're supposed to get a refund its that much less.

Less than one month. My renewal just came in the mail today. $1400+/mo plus another $600 for the HSA which never seems to have any money in it.

And that's with a $12000 deductible per person, but only $24000 for the whole family, so we get that added benefit.

ACA is imploding but unfortunately it's taking a damn long time to do it. Would be nice if Congress helped it along but we can't count on House / Senate for anything.

I read somewhere that things that are failing should be given a push just to get it over with faster...someone better give this nasty ass scheme a big push and fast.

"ACA is imploding but unfortunately it's taking a damn long time"

What replaces ACA will only be worse. Probably a single payer system and a substantially higher payroll tax, thus forcing everyone that earns a wage to pay. Once Single Payer arrives there will be delays, declines, and low quality healthcare. Just like the Brits, Canadians, you need to seek treatment overseas and pay out of your own pocket.

well they both cost alot and when you need to use them they claim no responsibility due to:

  •  Referral or preauthorization required
  • Non-covered charges
  • Out-of-network provider
  • Minor errors
  • (we dont wanna!)

Up 25% this year for me. Up 500% over ten years for an annual rate of what, about 17.5%? CPI for the same time interval: +22% (roughly 2% p.a.)

Everything is fucking bullshit and we're probably only a year or two from the point where it collapses. If rent is 50% of disposable income and health care is 50% of disposable income, that leaves 0% for energy/fuel/food/clothing etc etc.

I just hope the socialist parasise offered up in the collapse implodes much faster that the crony capitalist one did.

My plans are pretty much to unplug from society, the only thing it seems to offer most working people today is unlimited attempts at stealing from them.

OT but...

Thursday, December 10, 2015

Despite an international uproar and condemnation by President Obama and nearly all of those running for the presidency, Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims coming to the United States has the support of a sizable majority of Republicans – and a plurality of all voters.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 66% of Likely Republican Voters favor a temporary ban on all Muslims entering the United States until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here. Just 24% oppose the plan, with 10% undecided.

Among all voters, 46% favor a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States, while 40% are opposed. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided.

Although cartoons generally depict caricatures of actual entities or situations, in this case the (morbidly obese) patient on the gurney is a fairly accurate portrayal...

I still don't get it.  Obamacare was never about socialized medicine.  It was always about enriching the insurance, pharm and medical corporations.  Why are we seeing this kind of cartoon now?  Is this some kind of time-delayed reaction?  What was Ramirez saying about Obamacare before it went into effect?  That it was socialism?  Or did he know what it was back then?

I live in France and I am extremely grateful for a socialized medical system that provides excellent healthcare at a much lower cost than healthcare in the US.  I will never go broke from being sick.  I can choose private care and pay for additional private insurance if I choose.  If this is one of the evils of socialism, bring on the Politiburo, baby!

What is America's problem with Obamacare?  Because you THINK it's socialism?  Or because it's forced capitalism (i.e. Fascism)?  Or that you are all simply pissed off at high healthcare costs, high insurance costs, a nation which will never give you any chance of succeeding and are trying to blame something, anything?  "Hey, let's blame the black guy!"  Maybe it's not racist.  But the origins of Obamacare go back to Dick Nixon and HMO's

Well, you can always solve Obamacare by blowing up another third world country.  How about sub-Saharan Africa?  Angola probably deserves it.
