Trump Takes Nation By Storm: More Americans Agree With Muslim Ban Than Reject It
In case you were confused how it is that Donald Trump's polling numbers could increase following his Muslim-ban comments (which have beeen widely denigrated by any and all talking head who can fog a mirror - from The White House down...), here is the "surely not us?" answer.
As The Hill reports, a new post-Trump survey by Rasmussed finds that 46% of likely voters would favor a policy preventing Muslim immigrants from entering the country until tighter screening procedures can be implemented, while only 40% would oppose such a measure.
In direct opposition to what The White House said (that Trump’s proposal is "totally contrary to our values as Americans,") it is apparent from this survey that the Obama Administration does not know its 'constituents' as well as it may have thought.
Simply put, based on this poll, more Americans - republicans and democrats - support Trump's idea of banning the entry of Muslims into America than oppose it, and now that it is 'polling' as a populist idea, we await Hillary Clinton to jump on the bandwagon.

After reading all your comments I don't know what to think. I don't really care either way.
I live among Pakistani Muslims and and S Asian Sikhs and Hindus, and European and N and S American whites, and African blacks and SE Asian browns, and Chinese, and to be honest none of them seem to assimilate with the majority group. They all seem to stick with their own. Even among the Westerners, French stick with French, Russians with Russians, Germans with Germans, Brits with Brits. Among most of the other groups it's the same. The Africans pretty much only associate with Africans from the same country. Same with South and Southeast Asians.
Even when they are from the same country they associate according to state/province of origin or dialect, and they associate further by family status, job, etc. But no one really gives a shit. They simply don't want to associate with other groups. They just don't have much in common or they just don't like some of the other groups. I know quite a few Muslims among them. Nice guys. Decent, friendly, helpful. Haven't met a bad one yet. I enjoy their company as much as anyone else's. Can't say the same for some of the other groups. They may not love America, but as far as I can tell, none of them wish it any harm.
I am not living in my own country. I'd feel uncomfortable if I was told I had to assimilate with the majority. But no one would think of asking me too. Tolerance is an appealing quality from my perspective.

I wrote Trump on this issue. I told him that I disagreed with his ban based on religion, but agreed with a ban using other criteria that; a) are not Constitutionally prohibited and, b) commonly used already. I told him that I could not commit to voting for him at this time because I don't trust his commitment to the Constitution, especially on the right to keep and bear arms...and that some movement from him on this issue would show me that he might, indeed have respect for the Constitution. Then I presented an alternative position, where he would ban immigration based on country of origin and nationality, specifically naming the usual suspects like Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon...as well as some who SHOULD BE suspect like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc. Then I mentioned how he could throw in countries like Mexico, and most of Central and South America while he is at it...essentially killing two immigration birds with one stone. Then I simply asked him to consider how much MORE support he would get for my alternative proposal, because he'd gain people like me with Constitutional concerns and more people from the southern border states as well.
Sometimes I think we spend too much time screaming at each other rather than trying to reason through compromise. There are some core principles that cannot be compromised...freedom of speech & religion, the right to keep and bear arms, for example, but other than those core principles, everything else is negotiable.
We certainly do have too much immigration, certainly from Mexico, but Trump and his ilk will NEVER stop that flow, where do you think they get all their cheap labor from. Like Obama, its not important what they say, but what they do.
Then there is the issue of stopping migration from Syria, Iraq...et al, maybe if we stopped bombing those countries and financially backing terrorists to destabilize those countries, they would not want to migrate anywhere.
