US Kills ISIS "Finance Minister" In Airstrike

Tyler Durden's picture

Back in May, the US was elated to report that commandos had killed Islamic State “gas minister” Abu Sayyaf in a raid in Eastern Syria.

That effort has been cited as evidence of how effective targeted SpecOps raids can be when it comes to taking out senior ISIS commanders. In November, the US claimed to have killed the infamous Jihadi John in a drone strike near Raqqa.

These “success” stories are part and parcel of a US “strategy” characterized by minimal success in terms of curtailing Islamic State’s operations and periodic claims of “major”, high value kills. The public has no idea what’s going on in Mosul, or in Ramadi, or in Raqqa, but what the mindless masses can internalize are headlines like this: “US kills senior ISIS leader in targeted strike.” Those types of stories play well with an increasingly impatient public that can’t seem to understand why the US has yet to make a dent in a group that comprises just 30,000 soldiers.

Well this afternoon we got another completely amorphous claim from The Pentagon regarding the death of a “senior” ISIS commander when Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL (whatever the hell that means) Brett McGurk took to Twiiter with the following message for the public:

Who is Abu Saleh, you ask? Well, McGurk doesn't say, but he's probably talking about Muwaffaq Mustafa Mohammed al-Karmoush. Here's a handy org chart for the group's Iraqi operations that should help:

So there you go. Washington apparently killed Baghdadi's FinMin in Iraq. Here's what we said last month in the wake of the drone strike that allegedly killed Mohammed Emwazi:

At this point, with everything we know about the support Washington's regional allies have provided to Sunni militants like Emwazi, it's difficult to determine how to assess these types of stories. That is, when you foment discord on the way to creating civil war (and again, you don't have to believe the US created ISIS to believe that the US did indeed participate in stirring up the sectarian hornet's nest and that Washington's "friends" in Riyadh and Doha not to mention Ankara probably did assist Islamic State in one form or another), groups like ISIS invariably emerge, so when you go back and you kill them, you're just putting down the Frankenstein you helped to create. Does Wasington deserve a pat on the back for that? We don't know.

But what we do know is that targeting a single high profile ISIS member to grab a headline or two isn't going to cut it when it comes to convincing those of a skeptical persuasion that The Pentagon is ready to take the fight seriously. Not while Russia and Iran are staging assaults on major Syrian cities.

It's also interesting that the man in charge of "general finance" died just days after the world began to ask serious questions about whether or not NATO member Turkey is involved in facilitating the sale of the group's 45,000 b/d of illicit crude. Dead men, we suppose, tell no tales.

Fortunately for ISIS, the group's FinMin in Syria is still alive and well...

Turkey’s recent (and seemingly inexplicable) foray into the spotlight of middle-eastern affairs has baffled many international observers. Turkey’s provocations against Syria, Russia, and now Iraq, and their alleged support of terror groups in support of their energy industry have angered Washington (and NATO,) have puzzled Kazakhstan, angered China, and have put Europe in a difficult situation. Nobody seems to know what Erdogan is up to.

Resources are the default excuse, but cultural ties to the region’s other local actors play an important part. Is Turkey creating a buffer zone between Russia and the middle-east in order to inflate its importance? How many of the ‘-stans’ are on his side?

“In concrete terms, the only achievement was the announced agreement to launch the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP). «Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline – TANAP can be launched sooner than it was initially scheduled», said Mr Ahmet Davutoglu at a joint press conference with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

Some 6 billion cubic meters of gas of 16 billion cubic meters will go to Turkey, while some 10 billion cubic meters of gas will go to Europe. TANAP will connect the giant Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan to Europe through the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), TANAP and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).”

Is Turkey using Azerbaijan to further its goal of regional dominance or is Turcic concern for its neighbours genuine? The move north and east puts several other states, especially Georgia, into harm’s way. No wonder Putin included Yunus-Bek Yevkurov in its meeting with the Saudi defense minister Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud. This aggrandization of the empire would serve as a bonding agent solidifying Turkey’s plan for regional dominance. Turkey already controls all the land-based pipelines into Europe from the middle-east and seems to have no qualms about using less legitimate groups to help further its agenda. The term ‘deep-state’ was coined in reference to Turkey, after all.

“The rulers of re-emerged Ottoman Empire are trying to rekindle the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. The fighting between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces has escalated recently. The Paris Armenia-Azerbaijan summit slated for December 1 was indefinitely postponed.”

Turkey has many battle-fronts now; they look to start conflict with everybody it would seem. A war forces states to take sides, and with Turkey controlling a great deal of European energy, as well as the water from the Euphrates river, perhaps Erdogan is trying to force his ally’s hands. He thought he had NATO support, but that is as yet uncertain; Turkey did fight a war against Poland in the 17th century. He seems to have Washington’s, in any case. But will Russia and the US both fall for the ploy, or will the two super-powers turn against him? He may well take Assad’s place as the next Gadaffi. Turkey’s role is at least as important as Ukraine’s, and they just got about the same amount of money from Europe as the IMF gave the Ukraine. Will we see increased terror attacks across the Caucasus as Putin has feared since the Sochi games? We will soon see.

"Turkey is to receive $70 million worth of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) and associated equipment, parts and technical support after being approved by the US State Department. The approval was procured through the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) with the aim of helping with Turkish participation in NATO missions in the region. Sales of JDAM kits have been an extremely popular order from foreign nations as they allow for the cheap conversion of unguided bombs into smart munition. The kits are to be supplied by Boeing."

https://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/

Boeing, responsible for the un-interruptable auto pilot (which allowed projects like Northwoods, 9/11, and MH-370) is now supporting ISIS/ISIL/Daesh indirectly.

How does the business class boycott Boeing? How do we Boycott Raytheon, NATO, the Fed, the IRS, globalization? There go our voices, our rights, and our future.

Yes, 'angered Washington' so much the US military provided the AWACs information needed for Turkey to kill that Russian plan in Syria.

Kayfabe.

And also, the goal is continuing chaos.  Russia seems to be effective in opposing chaos, the US and allies are certainly not.

If they allow peace, they hang.

Yes, a good thought.

There were very many people on the 4 'hijacked' airliners on 9/11 who were associated with the Israeli-Neocons and companies that conspired to pull off that False Flag against the American people.

That has a lot of detail about that phase of the operation.  Serious woman, I was impressed with the work she has done.

Hard to believe they are dead, and also hard to believe they would be left alive, and also hard to believe none would have been found in the 14 years since.  Minor Ponzi schemers from 25 years ago are found in small Paraguayan villages every now and then.

ISIS is not the threat......jihadi migrants are the threat

that is why Trump resonates with the common sense crowd.......

they cant be properly vetted and with 35+ terror camps in the ussa already, we are being set up...

Isis was designed (like al queda/ russia in afghanistan) to topple assad and then be eliminated.. but just like al queda they have other aspirations... and we dont lern from past mistakes and obama nd clintoon are running another political agenda... importing votes, willing to suffer jiahdi attacks in the ussa... which  to them, with the ss guards they have, are mere "bumps in the road"....
