War Is On The Horizon: Is It Too Late To Stop It?

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Paul Craig Roberts,

One lesson from military history is that once mobilization for war begins, it takes on a momentum of its own and is uncontrollable.

This might be what is occuring unrecognized before our eyes.

In his September 28 speech at the 70th Anniversity of the United Nations, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia can no longer tolerate the state of affairs in the world. Two days later at the invitation of the Syrian government Russia began war against ISIS.

Russia was quickly successful in destroying ISIS arms depots and helping the Syrian army to roll back ISIS gains. Russia also destroyed thousands of oil tankers, the contents of which were financing ISIS by transporting stolen Syrian oil to Turkey where it is sold to the family of the current gangster who rules Turkey.

Washington was caught off guard by Russia’s decisiveness. Fearful that the quick success of such decisive action by Russia would discourage Washington’s NATO vassals from continuing to support Washington’s war against Assad and Washington’s use of its puppet government in Kiev to pressure Russia, Washington arranged for Turkey to shoot down a Russian fighter-bomber despite the agreement between Russia and NATO that there would be no air-to-air encounters in Russia’s area of air operation in Syria.

Although denying all responsibility, Washington used Russia’s low key response to the attack, for which Turkey did not apologize, to reassure Europe that Russia is a paper tiger. The Western presstitutes trumpeted: “Russia A Paper Tiger.”

The Russian government’s low key response to the provocation was used by Washington to reassure Europe that there is no risk in continuing to pressure Russia in the Middle East, Ukraine, Georgia, Montenegro, and elsewhere. Washington’s attack on Assad’s military is being used to reinforce the belief that is being inculcated in European governments that Russia’s responsible behavior to avoid war is a sign of fear and weakness.

It is unclear to what extent the Russian and Chinese governments understand that their independent policies, reaffirmed by the Russian and Chinese presidents On September 28, are regarded by Washington as “existential threats” to US hegemony.

The basis of US foreign policy is the commitment to prevent the rise of powers capable of constraining Washington’s unilateral action. The ability of Russia and China to do this makes them both a target.

Washington is not opposed to terrorism. Washington has been purposely creating terrorism for many years. Terrorism is a weapon that Washington intends to use to destabilize Russia and China by exporting it to the Muslim populations in Russia and China.

Washington is using Syria, as it used Ukraine, to demonstrate Russia’s impotence to Europe— and to China, as an impotent Russia is less attractive to China as an ally.

For Russia, responsible response to provocation has become a liability, because it encourages more provocation.

In other words, Washington and the gullibility of its European vassals have put humanity in a very dangerous situation, as the only choices left to Russia and China are to accept American vassalage or to prepare for war.

Putin must be respected for putting more value on human life than do Washington and its European vassals and avoiding military responses to provocations. However, Russia must do something to make the NATO countries aware that there are serious costs of their accommodation of Washington’s aggression against Russia. For example, the Russian government could decide that it makes no sense to sell energy to European countries that are in a de facto state of war against Russia. With winter upon us, the Russian government could announce that Russia does not sell energy to NATO member countries. Russia would lose the money, but that is cheaper than losing one’s sovereignty or a war.

To end the conflict in Ukraine, or to escalate it to a level beyond Europe’s willingness to participate, Russia could accept the requests of the breakaway provinces to be reunited with Russia. For Kiev to continue the conflict, Ukraine would have to attack Russia herself.

The Russian government has relied on responsible, non-provocative responses. Russia has taken the diplomatic approach, relying on European governments coming to their senses, realizing that their national interests diverge from Washington’s, and ceasing to enable Washington’s hegemonic policy. Russia’s policy has failed. To repeat, Russia’s low key, responsible responses have been used by Washington to paint Russia as a paper tiger that no one needs to fear.

We are left with the paradox that Russia’s determination to avoid war is leading directly to war.

Whether or not the Russian media, Russian people, and the entirety of the Russian government understand this, it must be obvious to the Russian military. All that Russian military leaders need to do is to look at the composition of the forces sent by NATO to “combat ISIS.” As George Abert notes, the American, French, and British aircraft that have been deployed are jet fighters whose purpose is air-to-air combat, not ground attack. The jet fighters are not deployed to attack ISIS on the ground, but to threaten the Russian fighter-bombers that are attacking ISIS ground targets.

There is no doubt that Washington is driving the world toward Armageddon, and Europe is the enabler. Washington’s bought-and-paid-for-puppets in Germany, France, and UK are either stupid, unconcerned, or powerless to escape from Washington’s grip. Unless Russia can wake up Europe, war is inevitable.

Have the totally evil, dumbshit neocon warmongers who control the US government taught Putin that war is inevitable?

Not if Putin and China keep supporting the dollar faction by supplying goods and services essentially for free by selling them for dollars.

At least, not before the West or the dollar faction enmeshes itself indelibly into the fabric of human existence throughout the world that its extrication would terminate the host, i.e., the human race, as well.

I recently read Smedley Butler's book, War is a Racket. It's very short, 20 pages or so. I recommend it. Very powerful arguments, concisely woven, especially the chapter that lays out who got paid in supporting both allies and enemies in WWI.

I especially like his Constitutional Amendment solution, while he admits could be eroded over time, is a strong starting point for blunting the power of the MIC. That entails firstly, "concripting capital and industry and labor befre the nation's manhood can be conscripted." The leaders and worker of every cmpany and institution involved in war making would be paid a soldier's salary in the month leading up to a congressional vote to deploy troops.

Secondly, prior to any troop commitments anywhere, a plebiscite would be held that includes only draft-age voters, who would vote up or down for military deployment.

Third, all US military forces would become defense forces only. The Navy could operate only 200 miles offshore. Air force, 500 miles. Ground troops, US soil only.

Now some of the detsils would have to be worked out, but this is no more complex, and probsbly much less, than say obamacare.

The American Public has being discounted from this article…almost like war is a foregone conclusion.  I’m sure there is away for Americans to purge their entire government of the treasonous criminals stinking up their Halls of Power (there seems to be enough evidence against them going around).  Try that avenue first – the cost will be great, but nothing like the Global Mass Murder Festival when some Clown hits the Red Nuclear Party Button.

Yes you Can America – the right to bear arms was put in place to remove enemies both foreign and Local.  Why suffer this total disrespect from an arrogant Government and its Multinational Corporate Masters?  Offload some of your fear there where it is so richly deserved.

Remember this won’t be the first time the American Public removed the Criminals from Her Shores and public institutions…I’m sure the English Aristocracy still remember that ass-kicking well…

If you can't, at least you tried and you and yours will die (along with the rest of us) with the world's love and respect before the big Bang.

The majority of the American public is made up of scared sheep who will do and give away ANYTHING in the name of Uncle Sugar protecting them and giving them free stuff.  They suck up everything the government/corporate controlled media tells them, including how Russia is an evil empire bent on our destruction and how Islam is bent on our destruction.  The American public is so drugged up on fear and propaganda that they think the emperor is wearing clothes.  The only hope America has is that the 1-5% who actually value the Constitution and not fooled by all the irrational fear-mongering can survive the implosion that is coming and can rebuild the nation back into something like what our Founders had attempted.

This nightmare is decidely NOT the America I grew up in and very few people are the same kind of tough, freedom-loving Americans that I grew up with and that preceeded me.  America has become an Idiocracy of sheep.

Not all of us, If USA declares war W/O congress the AMERICAN PUBLIC SHOULD DECLARE WAR ON OUR GOVERNMENT.

They are crooks and the world is getting pissed.

After all they have already declared war on us.  People that haven’t been listening are starting to listen and believe.

I wanna see who exactly is giving the yes votes for WW3.  World powers want to create war so they can mutually destroy their populations and not be blamed.. The population better start waking up. World governments have already done a great job on world food supply. Half our chickens are gone from bird flue in the US, Oceans wiped out by FUCKASHITHOLE.  Our grids and food infrastructure vulnerable... Almost out of bombs and they want to start WW3???  Wake the fuck up people before its too late?  They have been preparing the battlefield.

Its all staged at this point. World leaders agree the populations need to go.  How much more obvious does it have to get.

Chem trails use lithium to keep everyone calm.. Who knows WTF they are spraying us with.. People aren't just dumb (although there are plenty of stupid fucks out there) they are being secretly attacked through the food, air and the water.  There is clearly a "program" in place.  There are very bad people who have lots of control.

1st reduce the population, then create a one world government.  How else can they do it?  Pay attention everyone.  If they dont reduce the population, they cant create their 1 world government.. We are getting close to the next phase of their "plan".  They justify because they think its good for mankind.  Evil and greed are driving the bus.

As wealth consolidates it makes its way to Evil and Greed because Evil and Greed will do way more than good to obtain it.  They will do things that are illegal and not right or good.  It ends up in their hands in the end after consolidation.. Over and over it happens in history.   People should open their minds to human nature, we are not all Good.  Its a bit surreal, but I have no doubt.

Gun control in this environment????

The American people never were a homogeneous or savory bunch. You exterminated the natives and took over a continent, then the world. You're a fucking epidemic disease for fuck's sake.

The problem is the American people are just as corrupt and stupid as their leadership. The problem cannot be part of the solution.

PCR : War is coming and its Pax Americana's doing...as THEY don't want to relinquish their hegemony.

That Putin does not want to say like Chamberlain at Munich : Peace in our times...is just anecdotal to the main geopolitical thread according to PCR. The momentum is clearly coming from the US side.

Thats the punch line according to him. He finger points to who is the real culprit. Seeing that the Obama presidency is hedging its bets adds to the frustration of the American MIIC. Its looks like the big moves will be made once the Obama administration brakes come off and Congress of GOP led neo-con hawks can then show a free hand to more hard hatted confrontation.

So in that context (assuming that war between the BIG BOYS is kept on the back burner upto 2017)... If one of Trump or Clinton were elected, which President will go MOAR down that road has to be the logical corollary to this Thesis of PCR !

I guess that is what PCR is pointing to.
