Donald Trump - Bigot, zealot, xenophobe, racist, hitler-ite? Or Donald Trump - cunning strategist who knows Americans better than the "leave us alone up here on our Hill" career politicians and their lackey liberal media partners?

You decide...

As YouGov reports, a majority of Americans say that they view Islam unfavorably, and even Democrats are almost twice as likely to view Islam negatively than positively.

One week ago the United States saw the deadliest terrorist attack it has seen since 9/11, after 14 people were killed in San Bernadino by Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik. In the wake of the attack Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took his most aggressively anti-Muslim stance so far by calling for Muslims to be barred from entry into the United States. Though the United States has millions of Muslims, anti-Muslim sentiment has become increasingly common in public discourse.

 

YouGov/HuffPost's latest research shows that most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam. 58% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, and just over a third (35%) say that they have a 'very unfavorable' opinion of the religion. Only 17% of Americans view it positively. Democrats (27%) are the most likely to have a favorable opinion of Islam, but even they tend to say that they view Islam negatively. Among independents (58%) and Republicans (75%) most people have a negative view of Islam. 

 


Americans dislike Islam

 

Under-30s (45%) are the least likely to have unfavorable opinions of Islam, but 65% of over-65s view Islam unfavorably.

So, is Trump merely reflective of the real American "values"?

Finally, here is Patrick Buchanan, of Buchanan.org, explaining the odd hypocrisy in the establishment's unhinged response to Trumps' call:

Calling for a moratorium on Muslim immigration “until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on,” Donald Trump this week ignited a firestorm of historic proportions.

 

As all the old hate words — xenophobe, racist, bigot — have lost their electric charge from overuse, and Trump was being called a fascist demagogue and compared to Hitler and Mussolini.

 

The establishment seemed to have become unhinged.

 

Why the hysteria? Comes the reply: Trump’s call for a temporary ban on Muslim immigration tramples all over “American values” and everything we stand for, including the Constitution.

 

But is this really true?

 

The Constitution protects freedom of religion for U.S. citizens. But citizens of foreign lands have no constitutional right to migrate. And federal law gives a president broad powers in deciding who comes and who does not, especially in wartime.

 

In 1924, Congress restricted immigration from Asia, reduced the numbers coming from southern and Central Europe, and produced a 40-year moratorium on most immigration into the United States.

 

Its authors and President Coolidge wanted ours to remain a nation whose primary religious and ethnic ties were to Europe, not Africa or Asia.

 

Under FDR, Truman and JFK, this was the law of the land.

 

Did this represent 40 years of fascism?

 

Why might Trump want a moratorium on Muslim immigration?

  • Reason one: terrorism. The 9/11 terrorists were Muslim, as were the shoe and underwear bombers on those planes, the Fort Hood shooter, the Times Square bomber and the San Bernardino killers. And as San Bernardino showed again, Islamist terrorists are exploiting our liberal immigration policies to come here and kill us. Thus, a pause, a timeout on immigration from Muslim countries, until we fix the problem, would seem to be simple common sense.
  • Second, Muslims are clearly more susceptible to the siren call of terrorism, and more likely to be radicalized on the Internet and in mosques than are Christians at church or Jews at synagogue. Which is why we monitor mosques more closely than cathedrals.
  • Third, according to Harvard’s late Samuel Huntington, a “clash of civilizations” is coming between the West and the Islamic world. Other scholars somberly concur. But if such a conflict is in the cards, how many more millions of devout Muslims do we want inside the gates?

Set aside al-Qaida, ISIS and their sympathizers. Among the 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide are untold millions of followers of the Prophet who pray for the coming of a day when sharia is universal and the infidels, i.e., everyone else, are either converted or subjugated.

 

In nations where Muslims are already huge majorities, where are the Jews? Where have all the Christians gone?

 

With ethnic and sectarian wars raging in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Yemen, Libya, Nigeria and Somalia, why would we bring into our own country people from all sides of these murderous conflicts?

 

Many European nations — Germans, French, Swedes, Brits — appear to regret having thrown open their doors to immigrants and refugees from the Islamic world, who have now formed unassimilated clusters and enclaves inside their countries.

 

Ought we not explore why, before we continue down this road?

 

In some countries of the Muslim world, Americans who embrace “Hollywood values” regarding abortion, adultery and homosexuality, can get their heads chopped off as quickly as converts to Christianity.

 

In what Muslim countries does Earl Warren’s interpretation of the First Amendment — about any and all religious presence being banned in public schools and all religions being treated equally — apply?

 

When is the next “Crusade for Christ” coming to Saudi Arabia?

 

Japan has no immigration from the Muslim world, nor does Israel, which declares itself a Jewish state. Are they also fascistic?

 

President Obama and the guilt-besotted West often bawl their apologies for the horrors of the Crusades that liberated Jerusalem.

 

Anyone heard Muslim rulers lately apologizing for Saladin, who butchered Christians to take Jerusalem back, or for Suleiman the Magnificent, who conquered the Christian Balkans rampaging through Hungary all the way to the gates of Vienna?

 

Trump’s surge this week, in the teeth of universal denunciation, suggests that a large slice of America agrees with his indictment — that our political-media establishment is dumb as a box of rocks and leading us down a path to national suicide.

 

Trump’s success tells us that the American people really do not celebrate “globalization.” They think our negotiators got snookered out of the most magnificent industrial machine ever built, which once guaranteed our workers the highest standard of living on earth.

 

They don’t want open borders or mass immigration. They want people here illegally to be sent back, the borders secured, and a moratorium imposed on Muslim immigration until we fix the broken system.

 

As for the establishment, they are saying pretty much what The Donald is saying. To paraphrase Oliver Cromwell’s speech to the Rump Parliament: You have sat here too long for any good you have done here. In the name of God, go!

You notice SWAT raiding one of your neighbors in the poorer section of the neighborhood. They were killed along with their dog because they had accumulated more than ten days worth of emergency food and supplies. Having survived a hurricane in the past the family was simply prepared. Now I could have (attempted) to stand up for the family but I didn't know them personally and was "indifferent" as long as it wasn't my family.

They are geographically close.

Good point but we should only allow immigration as we need it, right?  With our true unemployment rates do we really need a lot of immigration right now?  Shouldn't our policy be based on the country's needs rather than the needs of others?  It sounds callous but half of the continent of Africa probably feels that they need to be in a place like the US but our needs differ.

Where I live they are bringing people from India to replace people from India in the medical field.  That tells me that they really don't need these people they are just trying to put downward pressure on wages and yet they just keep coming in on both ends of the scale.

When we cannot provide jobs, medical care, education opportunities etc for our own then all immigration should be put on hold, and when we do open up our land for immigration we should be bringing in people who become AMERICANS; people who bring something of value and contribute to the health and welfare of the nation. Very confusing.  You use the term 'white americans' as tho that means something more than 'Americans who are white' and thus includes every single possible interest and opinion and atitude and income and characteristic of any in the entire human race, and expect to reason with that, expect that you can draw conclusions about what 'they' are, mean, do, think.

And then quote wisdom and admiration for the really good people.

I personally know, have worked with, and have friends in many nationalities and ethnicities.  Just people, mostly the same in interests, spend 99% of their time focused on work, family, food, sex, drugs, rock'n'roll or other entertainment.  From that experience, I don't think I can make many generalizations, exccept that few come from societies that consisently play positive-sum games, so many aren't good at it, and people have to take that kind of thing into account.  But certainly native Americans fail at that also, and you guard against that in the same way for all, no big deal.

It has been more than well established that the US government is behind ISIS.  Either Trump doesn't know this or he knows but can't or wont say so.  As .gov attempts to force throngs from the third world upon us, including people we are supposedly at war with, it becomes more than obvious that any curtailing of refugees or excessive border traffic is in the defense of the American people. 

Trump comes at this issue all wrong and fuels a racial debate rather than taking the common sense approach which is both wide open to him and unassailable.  While we should appreciate his attempts to close our border and protect us he seems to damaging the cause in the process.  This leads one to the conclusion that he is either completely out of touch with the corruption we are dealing with or he is part of the problem.  I guess there is a third possibility that he is going with the flow to get in but it doesn't look good.

The question people need to ask is... If so, then it's common sense to cease the cultural suicide of opening one's borders to foreigners in large numbers. I think he's playing to the other side of populist emotion - exploiting the trend. That's smart in what ever way it looks, either from the loser's or winner's perspective.

I'm close by the protest for the black man allegedly shot by police while handcuffed. Believe me, the racial debate is already full blown here. Even I notice it as I interact in this lower-class neighborhood up the hill from the Mississippi, and I'm just a kindly, middle-aged white male.

One might forget, also, that the trend is turnng from the saturation of political correctness. Americans, in general, may be uninformed, but they maintain little tolerance for obvious hypocrisies.

For that matter, information, as "we" know it, makes them uncomfortable, and even a little bit afraid - afraid for their ignorance on display, or worse yet, having to make a serious committment. For some, this means a broad leap of faith; rejecting the relative safety and meager assurance of the Government tit. Still, as if on cue, they remain eager to grouse and grumble, in the knowledge that "something" is wrong, but not exactly sure what it is.

Trump plays on those themes and needs like the master salesman he is. Whether he will truly remain independent, and open to negotiation with the people, remains to be seen.

Trump already leads Clinton in key states FL, CO, OH and others and is tied in dem stronghold state of PA. This despite Trump being under unrelenting withering attacks by the propaganda media while Hildebeast has been receiving the most favorable press recently designed to whitewash her criminality and deceit.

In 2009, establishment Hillary lost to a blank slate like Obama because the country demanded policy change.  They know she will only continue as a big-spending, conniving hawk.  During the final big D/R debates, I imagine Trump will devastatingly air out her dirty laundry if only for the applause.  She has an up-hill likability climb but must leave enough lucre to pay-off the modern Praetorian guard, Diebold.

I dunno. I certainly thought that he had no chance of winning, but he seems to reasonating with people. Hillary is equally as polarizing as the Donald, but I think he may appeal to actual working class people. He's not disliked by blacks and hispanics as much as I anticipated, and folks seemed to be charmed by his politically incorrectness. Many seemed to be bored by all the special snowflakes that have to be pandered to without consideration given to the majority that have to put up with them. Hillary will pander to the gimme crowd, but I think that folks are waking up to the fact that the rest of us pay for it, such as "affordable healthcare".

He scares me, as I've actually found myself agreeing with him on more than one occasion. And I'm a woman.

I agree it doesn't matter who is in the white house because they all do what they're told.  Who the president is or who runs does matter in as much because trump is whipping up some serious domestic on domestic hate.  This level of hysteria hasn't been seen since the red scare or 1930s germany.  it's much easier to subdue a terrified xenophobic population at war with itself.  So yes, as far as that, it matters. 

 

people here and everywhere else need to wake the fuck up.  your governments are waging literal war against you.  remember who the real enemy is.  None of these clowns will be your savior.  They will murder you or cause you to murder your neighbor though without a second thought.  don't support any of them. 

You should get to know your neighbors and build a community even if you have a Muslim family in the neighborhood (gasp!!).  you might have more in common than you think.
