Despite the best efforts to "Le Pen" Trump out of the debate, he still managed to garner the highest votes among poll audiences with regard who 'won' the debate, focusing on killing ISIS family members, border walls, shutting down the internet, and fixing America's roads and bridges. Ben Carson's moment of silence was his first truthful statement in months. The comes the Cruz-Rubio-Paul-Kasich death-match of who can explain Sunni-Shia turmoil in the most confusing way (with 'coughing' Cruz calling himself the most determined "thug" and Rubio lashing out at Cruz's plans to carpet-bomb Syria). Jeb took a swing at Trump as the "chaos president" and missed. In sum, aside from an Iowa conservative radio host who endorsed Cruz proclaiming Fiorina went "full vagina," the GOP debate appeared more a dick-measuring competition as contestant after contestant lined up to seem more hawkish.

re: trade deals, We gave the store away. There are deals....and then there are shitty deals. I graduated HS in 81...I saw the shit storm coming. I watched for 25+ years as small mom and pop machine shops were forced out of business through "free" trade". Now I get to go to Walmart and buy a plastic nozzle for my garden hose....both made in China. Eisenhower walked the battlefields of Euorpe strewn with dead and wept, he dissented against dropping the bomb on Japan, he warned us openly of the encroachmenst of the MIC...

Eisenhower was the finest aid the General MacArthur ever had. He never, not one day ever was in combat. He had a temper the likes of which was disgraceful and for the most part he was a politician and not a military leader.
His one crowning accomplishment was he was just barely able to beat the Wehrmacht even with Hitler aiding him along the way.
Case in point, by June 1944, the Marines had perfected the taking of heavily defended beachheads with perhaps the most sophisticated means of combat at that time; the amphibious operation. They were able to combine fast moving shock troops, sea power, and air power all at the point of contact in a manner that could guarantee that the most heavily defended beaches would not be able to withstand the assault. That force was so effective the Japanese, the masters of heavy defense, gave up on the idea of opposing an amphibious operation. Where was that experience and expertise at Normandy?
In total the Normandy beaches were lightly defended, including Omaha Beach. and yet at Omaha the invasion almost fell apart from resistance of a lightly entrenched German Regiment. Why was that?: because Eisenhower learned nothing from the lessons learned in blood by the US Marines and also General MacArthur up to that time. Those beach defenses could have been easily defeated by close in Naval Support and or Air Support but nothing was done and the troops were allowed to be slaughtered until late in the afternoon when Naval Destroyers decided on their own to move in and take out positions they could see from 1500 yards. Let's not even get into the 4 prior sea borne invasions under Eisenhower and what fiascos they were as well.
And let's not even get into the deployment of elite parachute troops at night.
Then when Patton had the Germans on the run from the Normandy breakout, with literally no German Forces in his way, Eisenhower took the limited supplies of fuel and gave them to the British so they could mount Market Garden leaving Patton unable to advance into the heart of Germany. That was pure political theater and perhaps one of the worst military decisions ever made. It prolonged the war by months, cost millions of lives, and allowed the Russians to get into Berlin and divide Germany.
Eisenhower was a good aide and administrator and a Politician, just about everything you don't want in a military leader.
One could go on but why destroy the myth as myths are important.

If I remember, Ike was chosen for his admin and political skills since D-Day was a huge operation.
I do not think he was a bad choice. He had to manange personalities like Patton and Monty. Bradley was the common sense soldier in the group.
Ike also had to console and manage the rivalries within the Allies.
In one sense, MacArthur saying Ike was his best clerk ever is a compliment.
It's easy for us years after the fact, to second guess the D-Day Invasion.
That was not a compliment from MacArthur. Second guessing would be to hold the invasion on a different day or at a different location etc. But not with what was done wrong by Ike.
Had there been at least one aircraft carrier assigned to each beachhead with ground support aircraft and forward obsevers to coordinate air and sea strikes, Omaha would have been a walk in the park. He can thank pure luck that the Desron squadron at the beachhead took it upon themselves to move in and destroy positions that they could clearly see 1500 yards from shore without any orders to do so. It took them about 5 minutes to quiet a good portion of the German positions allowing the soldiers to get off the beachhead.
That was just about the time that Bradley was getting ready to evacuate the beachhead.
