The Unexpected Explanation How "That Ford Truck" Ended Up In ISIS Hands

Tyler Durden's picture

Almost exactly a year ago, the media world was abuzz when as we reported then, a picture posted by Ansar al-Din Front, an Islamic extremist brigade, and which promptly went viral showed a Ford F250 truck with a "Mark-1 Plumbing" decal on the door and a militant standing in the bed firing the anti-aircraft gun.

And while most moved on quickly from this story, for one person the picture had a dramatic and scarring effect: the owner of said Mark-1 Plumbing company, a Texan by the name of Mark Oberholtzer, who as many know by now, is suing a Texas Ford dealership (Charlie Thomas Gord) for more than $1 million in financial losses and damages to his company's reputation, as a result of this pickup truck which he once owned, ending up with Islamic militants fighting in Syria's civil war.

As CNN summarizes, "all Mark Oberholtzer wanted to do was upgrade his ride. What he got instead was a world of trouble from half a world away."

"By the end of the day, Mark-1's office, Mark-1's business phone, and Mark's personal cell had received over 1,000 phone calls from around the nation," Oberholtzer's lawyer wrote in the lawsuit, filed December 9 in Harris County, Texas. "These phone calls were in large part harassing and contained countless threats of violence, property harm, injury and even death."

Oberholtzer said this wouldn't have happened if the dealership had just removed the decals before the truck was resold, as he had demanded, thus serving as the basis for his lawsuit (attached below).

But while we commiserate with Mr. Oberholzer, and wish him prompt restitution of damages as a result of unnecessary harassment, a far more important question is just how did Mark's 2005 Ford F250 Super Duty end up in under the control of the Islamic State.

The answer would be critical, as it will provide a factual, tracable answer how it is that ISIS is if not funded (we know already revealed a critical part of that story), then supplied with equipment and perhaps weapons.

The answer is stunning.

This is what the plaintiff states in his lawsuit:

According to a CARFAX Vehicle History Report (see Exhibit B), the vehicle was listed as a dealer vehicle sold at a Texas auto auction on November 11, 2013. On December 18, 2013 the vehicle was exported from Houston, Texas and imported to Mersin, Turkey.

And here is the proof straight from CARFAX, provided in Exhibit B of Oberholzer's lawsuit:

And the transaction history, with the relevant final clue highlighted:

Presenting Mersin, Turkey, a stone's throw from the infamous port of Ceyhan and about a hundred miles from the territory of the Islamic State:

Here is what happened:

  • On October 23, 2013, Mark Oberholtzer entered into a transaction with Charlie Thomas Ford, in which he traded-in his old 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck for a newer 2012 Ford F-250 pickup truck.
  • Promptly thereafter, the vehicle was listed as a dealer vehicle sold at a Texas auto auction on November 11, 2013
  • Less than a month later, on December 18, 2013 the vehicle was exported from Houston, Texas and imported to Mersin, Turkey.
  • Less than a year later it was in the documented possession of the Islamic State.

So once again the "missing link" supplying ISIS emerges as none other than Turkey.

For those to whom the Turkey-ISIS connection comes as a surprise, we urge you to reread:

And while NATO-member Turkey supplying ISIS with funding, supplies, weapons or equipment is hardly groundbreaking news, the Ford "clue" poses new and important questions, such as:

  • who is the Turkish party that ordered and paid for the Ford truck's transfer to Turkey, and subsequently received compensation from the Islamic State in the subsequent resale?
  • which is the US party which transacts with Turkish counterparts, who ultimately ship US products to Islamic State fighters?
  • is the US party aware that its Turkish counterparty has dealings with ISIS
  • what is the role of the US government in all of this, because it would be surprising that an administration that has sworn it would crack down on all outside assistance to the Islamic State would be unaware that "made in the USA" trucks ended up in the Islamic State by way of its faitful NATO ally, Turkey.
  • how many other such vehicles sold  in the US and exported to Turkey, have  made their way to the Islamic State

We are confident that it will be relatively easy for any aspiring reporter to track down the US-based exporter of the Ford truck (and thus recipient of Turkish funds), just as it will be facile to uncover who was the Turkish buyer who signed the receipt invoice in Mersin, Turkey. What may be more difficult to uncover is whether the governments of the US and Turkey, respectively, were or are appraised about transactions such as this one, and if not, then why not?

We hope to be able to answer as many of the above as possible in the very near future.

I once purchased a used Toyota hilux pick up when I saw that they could carry 23 Alqaeda fighters with AK 47s and RPGs through the desert at high speed and never break down or run out of gas.  I was not dissapointed, the truck with the optional gleason torsen differential and an extra 30 gallon gas tank behind the cab could run off road for an entire month before coming back to paved roads with a gas station.

As a Dealler there are 100s of Auctions all over this country that wholesale dealer trade-ins. There are many middle eastern dealer/Buyers all over the country as well that ship vehicles of many sorts over to the Middle east. Thats all there really is to this story. It just so happens ISIS aquired it from a dealer in those parts. Im sure they paid cash though unlike most people here would have Financed it.

Or check satellite footage every now and then.  One Hedger ran the math based on amount of oil moving which added up to something like 800 (may have been more)tanker trucks one way to service those wells.  That would be 1600 round trips for tankers which would completely fill roads with traffic similar to early Bakken boom tanker traffic and then you have all of the Toyotas and white Nikes.

Plus you have the largest intelligence apparatus on the planet trying to track you down supposedly.  It's a huge joke.  Of course they are checking satellite footage but only to let their drivers know when threats are approaching, these are types of things that the serveillance state does, they are watching the good guys.

Just another point of evidence of US complicity in trying to destry Syria contrary to all international law.

State sponsored ISIS are such pussies.   They roam the desert in uncreative vehicles killing women and children.  Could you imagine if the US had some type of internal warfare against terrorists going on Mad Max style?  Of course this scenario doesn't exist in reality but just for entertainment purposes.

We would have excellent terrorist killing rides, we still have tons of good iron laying around (steel, when older guys say iron they mean steel) and the old farm equipment... there would be hand made original vehicles everywhere and it could happen in a hurry.

Of course there are not a whole lot of really big guns (as far as I know) so the lathes would be running 24-7.  All of the old men, most of the middle aged men in this country and many women in rural areas used to build things and they know how to improvise.

Just another reason why fake ISIS is such a joke.

Well maybe we should give the the terrorists this 2012 Mazda 6 my Bulgarian and Japanese friends have.  My Bulgarian friend travels a great deal for work and is in Vietnam.  His wife is Japanese.  They are our friends.  I noticed her passenger side headlight was out.  He is no wrench anyway.  I hate electrical shit and the Mazda's in that model are known for headlight fuck offs.  I will be honest here.  I have never even driven a Mazda much less worked on one or the electrical system it has.  This will be one hell of a challenge for me.  She said they just replaced the driver's side head light at great expense at the Mazda stealership.  That is not a good sign.

I read that this a very common problem with the Mazda 3 and 6 yet they won't recall the vehicles.  It could be a wiring harness issue and that would be very bad but I will start with simple and see if I can figure it out.  There can be only be so many things wrong.  ALL vehicles are this way.  I just hate electrical on cars.

I find it hard to understand why anybody would trust the oral promise of a used car dealer.

As for the dealer, well he probably thought he'd remove the decal at the subsequent sale, so as to push that expense out to the future. Then when he ended up exporting it, what the hell, who cares in Turkey?

"We have done so much in our quest to destroy our way of life due to Nazi guilt. I've spent billions of taxpayer Euros on transforming Europe into a multicultural 3rd world, the standard of  living has dropped but needs to drop further. European culture is on its  being phased out and a new Islamic one to take over; we need to work on fastening this process. Hopefully I have irreversibly damaged any hope of a western dominated culture in any western country. It is too bad this happened, but seriously, as a former small business owner myself, I cannot imagine doing what this business owner did, i.e. dropping my branded vehicle off at a dealership and expecting them to do something I should have done myself...all part of being a respectable business owner and looking out for your interests. The dealership had no idea where this truck would end up after the auction, I do not think they are at fault here. The plumbing company owner just wants to jump on the tort gravy train...not a whole lot different from an EBT card holder.
