Search For Fabled Nazi Gold Train Is A Bust: "There May Be A Tunnel...But There Is No Train"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mac Slavo via SHTFPlan.com,

It’s no secret that the Nazis stole millions of dollars worth of art, gold jewelry and personal belongings of the millions of people who were eventually sent to one of their many concentration camps across northern Europe. What does remain a secret are the whereabouts of the fabled Nazi gold train, which according to local legend was used to ferry away the Reich’s riches at the end of World War II.

Several months ago a couple of amatuer explorers in Poland thought they had finally found the location of the train and the Polish government even sent military teams to start digging it up because it was believed to be hidden in secret railway tunnels some 30 feet underground.

But as the New York Times reports, the hunt for the train may be a bust:

“There may be a tunnel,” said Janusz Madej, the head of the scientific team, “but there is no train.”

...

The Krakow University team of geologists and engineers surveyed the site in November using magnetic and gravitation methods, Mr. Madej said at a news conference. The examination revealed some anomalies in the ground, he said, but they are no more than about eight feet below the surface, while the train was supposed to be 30 feet underground.

“Annotated” Mein Kampf in Germany

Some 4,000 copies of a heavily annotated Mein Kampf will legally appear in selected German bookshops on January 8, 2016, for the first time in 70 years

The Institute of Contemporary History (IFZ) in Munich, which has been hard at work preparing the “new” edition, titled Hitler, Mein Kampf. A Critical Edition, said it will contain 1,948 pages and will sell for €59, or around $62—an extravagant price which will do much to stifle its sales.

The new version of Mein Kampf apparently contains the original German text, but each page is matched, almost paragraph by paragraph, by a facing page with no less than 3,500 “annotations.”

The purpose of these “annotations,” said an IFZ spokesman, is to “shatter the myth” surrounding the book.

This is somewhat of a bizarre claim, as there has never been any “myth” about the book, as anyone who has actually read it knows.

These stories pop up about finding tons of gold to lots of media attention, similar to the ship wreck that just popped up, but then no MSM covers when it's a bust. Hmmm who would benefit stories about tons of lost gold being found?

Yep, that's the first thing the warmongers go after following a violent takedown. The sleazy Bolsheviks guarded the Imperial Bank of Russia while it was looted of all its gold.

Fort Knox was built around the same time. Hmmmmm.

Its possible that the Russians found the train, back in the 1940's and 1950's but never disclosed they found it. Perhaps the Russian officials found, it keep the money for themselves. Hard to believe a money train could have been lost since the war.

Still, if they found the train, even if it was stripped of anything of value, it still would probably be interesting to see.

There is an old movie from the 1950's staring Richard Burton titled "The train" which was about a NAZI money train, moving art and PMs stolen in France, back to Germany as the Allies (US/UK) began liberating France.

The money and art was not stolen. It was taken by force as spoils of war.
There is a huge difference between theft and robbery.

There has to be at least one story about Hitler and the Nazis every day or the Jews start screaming "holocau$$t! And don't forget we need at least one new holocau$$t film every year to remind us of the evil of nationalism and whitey and how holy the Jews are along with all those other minorities who only cry out for social justice.

I've read 'Mein Kampf' many years ago and there is indeed nothing in it to be mythical about. The impression it left on me is that it's rather simplistic in content and in writing, almost childish. Frankly I was very disappointed in the book after starting reading in it very eagerly expecting it to have some cunning mind control like powers, thinking it must be forbidden for some good reason but page after page the book only shatters itself.

That's why I always wondered why they had forbidden the book because that's an excellent way of creating a myth where there is non. So why then are they, the powers that be I suppose so afraid of it? Maybe because they themselves have seen the people fall for their simplistic lies oh so often?

Did you read the book, or a translation of the book?  Some things don't translate well, especially when the person doing the translation has a passive/aggressive axe to grind...  (Not defending ole Adolf, just pointing out that the translator might not have been highly motivated to do a good job on this one...).

Thu, 12/17/2015 - 10:48 | 6934883 BarkingCat
BarkingCat's picture

Indeed. I was not even considering the motivation of the person translating but simply that many things do not translate well.
Additionally, one would have to consider the period of time it was written and the general culture and mindset of those who wrote and read it.

Good points BC.  The best translation of Mein Kampf is Song of the Reich by Richard S Hoehler.  It is tough to find and it contains excellent period photographs as well as historical context and supporting documents.  The author is empathetic to Hitler and he ensures proper context for the translations.  When compared to the modern Ford translation one can plainly see how a literal translation can obfuscate the message Hitler was attempting to share.

Thu, 12/17/2015 - 14:32 | 6935986 jaxville
jaxville's picture

As you will no doubt recall from reading the book....  Hitler makes many astute observations about the Jews that hold true to this day.  That is what must be referred to as being "mythical".

The craziest thing about this story is that anyone thought 'the train', if it existed, could be found in Poland. The whole reason for moving the gold was because the opposing armies were closing in on Berlin. Poland was filled with Russians by then.

Thu, 12/17/2015 - 01:07 | 6933876 Vlad Tepid
Vlad Tepid's picture

Current day Poland was then Germany.  The Soviets saw to a soveriegnty transfer after the ethnically cleansed the Germans from East Prussia and most of the land east of the Spree River.  If the Nazis were moving it out of Poland, they couldnlt have forseen that the German eastern frotnier would be Polish territory in 2 years and it's likely that they could not move the loot closer to Berlin or around it due to advancing Soviet armies, lack of general secutiry and severed rail lines.  Hiding in German territory was their only option.

(I didn't junk you, BTW)

Thu, 12/17/2015 - 01:13 | 6933885 AGuy
AGuy's picture

The story is that Germans had to abandon it because they couldn't get it back to Germany, as the rail lines were damaged or became behind the Russian lines. The Russians made a B-line for Berlin but not all of Germany was under Russian control (as the Russians put the majority of their forces to capture Berlin first).
