Huge Fukushima Cover-Up Exposed, Government Scientists In Meltdown

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Sean Adl-Tabatabai via InvestmentWatchBlog.com,

Fukushima radiation just off the North American coast is higher now than it has ever been, and government scientists and mainstream press are scrambling to cover-up and downplay the ever-increasing deadly threat that looms for millions of Americans.

Following the March 2011 meltdown at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, reactors have sprayed immeasurable amounts of radioactive material into the air, most of which settled into the Pacific Ocean. A study by the American Geophysical Union has found that radiation levels from Alaska to California have increased and continue to increase since they were last taken.

Naturalnews.com reports:

The highest levels yet of radiation from the disaster were found in a sample taken 2,500 kilometers (approx. 1,550 miles) west of San Francisco.

“Safe” according to whom?

Lead researcher Ken Buesseler of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution was one of the first people to begin monitoring Fukushima radiation in the Pacific Ocean, with his first samples taken three months after the disaster started. In 2014, he launched a citizen monitoring effort – Our Radioactive Ocean – to help collect more data on ocean-borne radioactivity.

The researchers track Fukushima radiation by focusing on the isotope Cesium-134, which has a half-life of only two years. All Cesium-134 in the ocean likely comes from the Fukushima disaster. In contrast, Cesium-137 – also released in huge quantities from Fukushima – has a half-life of 30 years, and persists in the ocean, not just from Fukushima, but also from nuclear tests conducted as far back as the 1950s.

The most recent study added 110 new Cesium-134 samples to the ongoing studies. These samples were an average of 11 Becquerels per cubic meter of sea water, a level 50 percent higher than other samples taken so far.

Instead of presenting the findings as an alarming sign of growing radiation, however, Buesseler emphasizes that the Cesium-134 levels detected are still 500 times lower than the drinking water limits set by the U.S. government. The news site The Big Wobble questions whether Buesseler and Woods Hole’s heavy financial reliance on the U.S. government – Woods Hole has received nearly $8 million in research funding from several government agencies – plays any role in this emphasis.

Situation still worsening

The reality, however, is that radiation along the West Coast is expected to keep getting worse. According to a 2013 study by the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center in Norway, the oceanic radiation plume released by Fukushima is likely to hit the North American West Coast in force in 2017, with levels peaking in 2018. Most of the radioactive material from the disaster is likely to stay concentrated on the western coast through at least 2026.

According to professor Michio Aoyama of Japan’s Fukushima University Institute of Environmental Radioactivity, the amount of radiation from Fukushima that has now reached North America is probably nearly as much as was spread over Japan during the initial disaster.

The recent Woods Hole study also confirmed that radioactive material is still leaking into the Pacific Ocean from the crippled Fukushima plant. Cesium-134 levels off the Japanese coast are between 10 and 100 times higher than those detected off the coast of California.

Without directly challenging the U.S. government’s “safe” radiation limits, Buesseler obliquely references the fact that any radioactive contamination of the ocean is cause for concern.

“Despite the fact that the levels of contamination off our shores remain well below government-established safety limits for human health or to marine life,” he said, “the changing values underscore the need to more closely monitor contamination levels across the Pacific.”

Don't worry though Olympians, everything will be fine in a few billion or so years.

"...a completely irrelevant source of radiation."

Your shill badge is showing.

A totally destroyed reactor is an 'irrelevant source of radiation'.

If that is the case, please be a brave soul and go over there and clean up the mess as apparently, it won't make [you] sick.

11 Bq/m3 in seawater that's 2,500 km away from the west coast IS IRRELEVANT.

Just like the sun, which releases a tremendous amount of radiation is also irrelevant to us on earth.   Why aren't you screeching about all the radiation on the sun?

Yes that's the new adjusted radiation  limit. In 10 years it will be 100,000 Bq/m3. Sadly you will be dead by then. But rejoice.  You will be under the limit!!

After reading all the comments on this thread, and not knowing the level of detail some of my ZHedgetastic friends do, if this is as serious as some suggest, its time for those of us who are religious to get down on your knees and ask whom ever you pray to for help.

It also shows us the folly of man, the gigantic, bloated, out of control system we called government sacrificing populations rather than admit, just once they got it wrong.  They would, obviously save themselves first before admitting we do indeed have a problem on our hands here, if as I said is as munificent as some folk think.  And if at this stage, mankind as whole at this point in our 'Evolution', has no known technology to stop these four reactors from further damaging our collective world, just what the fuck do we do?

Bankrupt a nation?  No probs mate, no responsibility on no ones half here.

Governmental corruption on an un-fathomable scale?  No probs mate, no responsibility here either.

And this one especially, a disaster of proportions hard to comprehend, to effectively boil a fucking kettle??

Get down on your knees folk and pray, if as bad it seems this is, and pray for divine intervention.

Humanity it would seem, has failed us.

THAT is a very good summary of the situation, mate.

Yes, our greatest enemy is HUMAN NATURE.  Our 'worst instincts', including greed, ambition, selfishness, and aggression ... have created a really serious situation on this planet now.

I agree with you.  We do need to be getting down on our knees and praying.  We are fast running out of time to find positive solutions.  It's not a game any more.  The countdown for a real crisis exists in this century .. it's not 'some imaginary time in the future'.

There will be no world left for our kids.

As I have stated before, I have no clue why Cesium-XXX (and Strontium) are commonly the only radionuclides reported on from Fukushima. These are just TWO of the THOUSANDS of radionuclides released from the pit of hell over there. It's also funny how the report talks about how the radiation is still "500 times lower then government limits...". Remember, this is the same government that kept RAISING the "safe"limit for radiation as Fukushima unfolded and higher and higher levels of radioactive isotopes were detected off the west coast and in cows milk. The rates kept rising so much, that the EPA shutdown their radiation detectors for a long time until they could be "re-calibrated" to what the NEWLY established safe levels were. And the comment about radiation peaking in a few years..... how so? Last time I checked, the radioactive waste water keeps pouring out of Fukushima on a daily basis, unabated. If they stopped the contamination of the environment 1 year later, sure, there would be a peak and things would slowly subside but there is no end in sight to this disaster. Things are so bad over there, due to laws pasted shortly after the accident, scientists and journalist risk going to prison if they tell the truth! Their scientists (and scientists around the world) acknowledge the fact that the technology to stop this DOES. NOT. EXIST. as of right now and probably won't exist for another couple hundred years. Radiation levels are so high in 2 of those reactors, you'll DIE within minutes after entering them. The reactor cores experienced melt outs! The corium is melting into the ground (and has been since day one) and is mixing with the water table that provides drinking water to Tokyo. Are people in Tokyo and the west coast going to die tomorrow? NOPE! Will there be a marked increase of cancers and genetically damaged fetuses another 10-15 years from now because of this? Yuuuuuuuuuuup! But of course, I'm sure cancers rates will simply not be recorded anywhere when this really takes off because where do these stats come from? The government you say.....well they are always honest with us, right? Do some research on Hanford, WA and the ultra-rare birth defects taking place up there and the cancer rates. This is the fate of people on the west coast.

And all you shills, FUCK OFF AND DIE. No idea how you sleep at night drawing a paycheck from the government for what you do. When the revolution comes, I hope sympathizers like you are some of the first ones hung by the neck until dead.

Tyler, ZH, When it comes to technical conversations like Fukushima, I would virtually INSIST the bloggers include their technical credentials, so that we may know it they are simply regurgitating (well)researched information, or if they have some hardcore science or engineering skills behind them.

If you've proud of your credential, there's no need to hide them.  Lest we thing you're a shill or gasbag.

To get the ball rolling and to not be what I hate -- a hypocryte -- I will disclose that... although I have a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Physics (from world class universities, neither in the US), Nuclear Physics is not "my bag".  I will therefore avoid making scientifically pretentious comments on this topic.

Instead, I contacted a close friend and former classmate, who is the Lead Nuclear Safety Officer at a nuclear facility (in Europe), whose competence, ethics and credibility is unimpeachable IMO.  I provided him the link to this article, and I look forward to hearing back from him.  I also urged him to read the Comments, especially those who try to make use of nuclear safety physics.  That way I'll know who is Wheat, and who is Chaff.  Will keep you posted.

I believe the radiation levels most likely did increase on the west coast and across the northern hemisphere, considering one of the reactors completely disintegrated into the air as a gas; not sure what happened to the second damaged one. Call me a conspiracy theorist but I believe there are some wanting people to leave California anyway. The drought didn't work? Well, let's scare the bejeebies out of people about radiation now. The worst of it actually happened after the explosion when the radiation went into the air after the complete meltdown of one of the reactors. It's a lready there. As far as ocean currents and if I remember right, didn't the highest levels of radiation already hit the west coast? Just curious.

No reactor "completely disintegrated into the air"

What you saw was the sheet metal building on top of the reactor blowing off becasue hydrogen accumulated within that building and a spark set it off.  It had nothing to do with the reactor itself.

What you say is true, but "completely disintigrated into the air" is true also for unit #4.

See: http://pbadupws.nrc.gov/docs/ML1212/ML12122A949.pdf  (See page 4 of 6 and 5 of 6, which is maybe page 8 in the .pdf) (courtesy of another poster here in ZH)

25% of fuel in one unit, 50% of fuel in another and "100% of fuel in unit four" was released.

True the explosion that was filmed was a hydrogen explosion but especially in unit four the fuel essentially melted, and like boiling water eventually "boiled away."

Unit 4 fuel pools were filled to capacity with HOT fuel rod assemblies!! The tsunami knocked out all electrical power, which by the way runs the cooling pumps which cools the HOT fuel rod assemblies!!

The cooling water boiled off!!!

The HOT fuel rod assemblies caught fire and some say went critical. This video shows the fire/criticality, see that pillar of light above? moving slowly to the right?  That's Pu-239 ionized channel radiation, SKYSHINE.

They are thermally hot enough that they can burn. They keep them in water for a reason.Fresh from the reactor they are very hot thermally and radioactive as hell.Lots of nasty isotopes with short half lives in "spent" fuel.Americium 241 is one of them.It is a really hot alpha emitter you do NOT want to inhale!Plutonium too...
Uranium burns very readily. And the smoke from burning fuel rods has lots of other great ingredients too!

It should be mentioned the chemical toxicity is extreme as well.Ingesting heavy metals is not good for you.

climate change is one problem.  but it is NOT our greatest threat.  The greatest threat is OVERPOPULATION.  The rapid increase in global population levels is creating a whole series of problems that are growing exponentially .... resource depletion, increasing pollution, major challenges for energy supplies and transportation, habitat destruction and the extinction of many biological species, climate change, competition amongst nations for critical resources, increasing risk of new disease epidemics, and WAR!

It's the whole combination of factors that is the problem.  Climate Change is only one piece of the puzzle.

The 'Force Awakens' - After the nuclear power plants built by the dinosaurs exploded and melted down (scientists see the evidence in the K-T layer but mistakingly attribute it to a meteor) - and wiped out the dinosaurs, only a few small reptiles and mammals remained. Several readers have mentioned that the sources of radioactivity need to be documented in more detail.  This is absolutely true.  There are alpha-emitters, beta-emitters and gamma-emitters.  Scientists are certainly able to determine which isotopes are active in the seawater - and the marine life - and tell the public the exact truth.  THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Although this article focuses on North America, the people who really need to know - are the citizens of Japan.  Fukushima is dumping high levels of radioactive water directly into the sea near the reactor site.  At the place where this is happening the radioactivity is much higher than acceptable limits for safety.  Of course, the radioactive species get diluted when they are injected into the Pacific Ocean.

You can be pretty sure that the Japanese Government and responsible scientists in Japan have studied this in detail.  Japan relies heavily on fish for protein.  They can't ignore a threat like this.  There are probably major studies underway where Japanese scientists are measuring the radioactivity data.  BUT THEY ARE NOT BEING RELEASED.

Japan and the USA owe the public the truth.  This is a global health issue.  The world has the resources, and the smart scientists, to be able to investigate what is exactly is happening.  This needs to be done, and it needs to be made public.

Most people will not release data which conflicts with their academic peer reviewed journals.

Doing so is essentially career suicide.  The thing is that alpha radiation is cumulative, symptoms mimic known diseases and it is easily dismissed by the medical world.

For those living on the west coast (or Northern Hemisphere for that matter) perhaps look up chelation, zeolites and algae clenses (ingestion of specific algaes was used as a chelation system after Chernobyl) as solutions to helping keep your body clean.

A nuclear  bomb and a release or dangerous  radiation  are two separate things. Tens of thousands of cleanup workers are dead. The Israeli  mafia runs the show. Do yourself a favor and research this. My company sold a product that removes 66% of Cesium from the body. Living on the West coast w3 can detect the difference  of radiation  in the body before  and after this medicine.  Japanese  are dying if cancer all over Fukushima   If you actually cared you could research the increase in heart attacks and various cancers like thyroid  over 60% higher than baseline. Tens of millions will die. That's what a bomb does but this process takes longer. No go do your homework.

Ass...le. Stop it.

Radiation kills you slowly, and your kids, and your grankids, for generations. See Belarus, Ukraine:

"Today in Ukraine, 6,000 children are born every year with genetic heart defects. More than 3,000 will die for lack of medical attention.

  • Children born since 1986 are affected by a 200 percent increase in birth defects and a 250 percent increase in congenital birth deformities.
  • 85 percent of Belarusian children are deemed to be Chernobyl victims: they carry “genetic markers” that could affect their health at any time and can be passed on to the next generation.
  • UNICEF found increases in children’s disease rates, including 38 percent increase in malignant tumours, 43 percent in blood circulatory illnesses and 63 percent in disorders of the bone, muscle and connective tissue system".

If you want to live in fear from articles like this, nothing can stop you. If you want to learn how radiation actually works, and make your own decisions, here are some starting points.

The article references 11 becquerel per cubic meter. That's a low number. The normal potassium in your body decays at 4,400 becquerel.

Another measure of radiation is the sievert. Measures are typically expressed as micosieverts (uSv), millisieverts (mSv) and sieverts (Sv). To understand how this works in the real world, check out this chart. If you like the charts on ZH which show debt as stacks of money in trucks and next to the Empire State Building, then this chart might work for you.

Extra radiation dose in Tokyo in weeks after Fukushima: 40 microSv. Solar radiation from a flight from LA to New York: 40 microSv. Living in a concrete building for a year: 70 microSv. Two weeks of exposure in Fukushima town hall after the accident: 100 microSV. Natural human background radiation exposure for a year, plus any typical medical scans: 4,000 microSv. Max yearly radiation worker legal limit (miner or control room operator): 50,000 microSv. Big numbers and big increases sound scary, but you need to know what they mean to avoid the sheeple disease: https://xkcd.com/radiation/

And for fun, here's what happens to you if you swim in a nuclear spent fuel pool (tip - bring a bp vest): https://what-if.xkcd.com/29/

Quite a bit of what was released is plutonium and uranium, plus other very exotic isotopes with half lifes over 100,000 years. Best part is if you breathe one of these particles in you are toast. This is real. Its an extinction level event.

    compare to

The current article discusses how fukishima, and fukishima alone has raised the base level of man-made radiation for the entire 63,780,000 square mile Pacific ocean. 660,000,000 km^3 of water. over a period of 4 years. with no possibility of dissipating 'till the half lives expire. The fukishima stories like this one only make "fear monger" places like zerohedge.

I was told long ago if you didn't have a really active spiritual life that you won't make it through this chaotic time.

    Consider studying evolutionary astrology.

It explains why we are here, where we have been in past lives and how best to move forward.

I believe I have lived many lifetimes on other planets and I had to come back here for some clean up

work, which is why as a child I felt repelled by this society. I have Pluto 12th and they say that the life will be strange. It has, filled with synchronicity and people

or signs showing up for me. I am totally committed to the truth, and when you are there assistance

from the universe is offered in the most magical way.

don't be unhappy, move forward in each day.

I got divorced in the late 90s and I was 40.

I said to myself that I was going to do everything I could to heal myself so that I would never have

to go through that again. All I did was read for about 10 yrs, many topics but mostly evolutionary astrology

because I needed an answer for why. What you come out with is the word victim is removed, because we asked

for this. To be born in this time in this situation for our own growth.

Something very evil is going on and it is trying to draw everyone in, don't take the bait.

Stay on your own mat, evil does not win in the long run because it has extreme limitations.

Stay on your own mat, evil does not win in the long run because it has extreme limitations.

The limitation is that evil always turns on itself once it consumes the weak and innocent.

For example: Evil runs away like a post 9/11 Iraqi (US trained) military officer sitting in an M1 Abrams when confronted with 20 year old dudes driving 2015 toyotas, rocking air jordans and black jumps suits, blazing 3 Meter ISIS flags rolling from town to town capturing oil wells owned by western mega corporations who are also too weak to fight.

As you stated. We did ask for things occuring around us. Infact, we subsidize it with our taxes.

Well, you can't say "The Big Wobble" doesn't live up to its name.

So everybody's relying on Buesseler's data, right up until he fails to sound an alarm for a catastrophe of biblical proportions. Then it's time for a little ad hominem attack. Jeez, talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Pointing out that the levels are 500 times lower than safe drinking water isn't a matter of "emphasis," it's a matter of pointing out a gap as expansive as the Grand Canyon.

2 Convince judges that national security will be threatened if the information about the threats to national security is availible to the subjects.

3 The subjects accept that 1 + 2 = 3. They decide they don't really need to be involved in the original problem. Even though some of them are probably capable of fixing it. Just pay your taxes.

Denizens of the earth refuse to go quietly into the night. Are they fighting back?

Human activities, overpopulation and resource abuse, due to ever increasing demand are killing life on this plant.  Resource extraction, groundwater depletion, ever expanding mono-culture and mans attempts to wipe out diversity on this planet is going has precipitated the sixth planet wide extinction; this will culminate in the near or possibly the total extinction of the human population.

Anyone see the pattern in the following list of snippets from the internet?

Disease-causing bacteria isn't the only place where humans are fighting a losing battle against rapid evolution: Farmers across the country are increasingly finding it difficult to kill "super weeds" as they become resistant to the most popular herbicides.

The price of olive oil is expected to rocket as forestry officials in southern Italy yesterday began cutting down thousands of olive trees infected with a deadly bacteria.

The xylella fastidiosa bacteria has ravaged olive trees in the Puglia region and contributed to a 35 percent drop in the region's olive oil production last year.

Its spread has so alarmed the EU that France announced a boycott of Puglian fruit and vegetables, while its effect on production will mean shortages in the supply of olive oil and is likely to lead to higher prices for shoppers in Britain and around the world.

Bananas may be going extinct due to a fungus we cannot stop. According to Scientific American, strains of a particular soil fungus -- Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense, or Foc -- have struck a key variety of banana grown for export in Mozambique and Jordan. Scientists fear that if the banana fungus spreads further, the popular Cavendish banana could become critically threatened.

The fungus, which has been found on several plantations, causes the incurable Panama disease, or Fusarium wilt, that rots bananas. In the 1950s, another strain of the banana fungus nearly wiped out the Gros Michel cultivar, once as common as the Cavendish variety.

Florida orange groves are infected by the Asian citrus psyllid, a tiny bug that carries a bacteria which attacks a tree's vascular system, eventually killing it.

Pine Bark Beatles are threatening entire forests.

    Bees are suffering colony collapse.

According to the CDC Antibiotic resistance is a quickly growing, extremely dangerous problem. World health leaders have described antibiotic-resistant bacteria as "nightmare bacteria" that "pose a catastrophic threat" to people in every country in the world.

Anyone and everyone that has a hand in covering up the facts related to this disaster, should be:

    Put in prison for life

    or

Executed in public squares all over the world

There is no other rational soluntion.

Obviously, the one man speaking the truth about Fukushima was right.  Everyone on the west coast of the US would be dead in seven days.  Not a single person west of the rockies is alive.  Anyone that tells you otherwise is a liar trying to hide THE TRUTH from you.

up to this minute, they still dump millions of gallons of waste into the Pacific daily-I guess that the EPA/NRC will just keep raising the "safe" levels for humans until they are equal to the inside of the plants-no kidding-THAT is how Beaurocrats/Industry insiders think...."just think positive and smile-and you will be safe from all radiation"-Mayor of Tokyo
