That's easy. Protestantism. It's all in your history books. Capitalism + Protestantism = WHIG, the political faction which settled the United States during the Restoration and rebelled when George III decided to act like a monarch instead of a rubber stamp.
Although today the Christian Conservatives think of Protestantism as fanatic religiousity, in fact in its youth Protestantism was practically a revolt against religion entirely. Anglicanism was an attempt to hit a happy medium between Catholicism and the Protestant Revolt by throwing out foreign influences (all Spanish, French, Irish, most Highland Scots, half of the Germans, Austria, half of Belgium . . . ) while retaining a modicum of ceremony and something to pin general morality on. We in the U.S. inherit much of our insular, jingoistic chauvinism from the English Protestants as well.
Meanwhile the Anglican church declined to the point where I met a practicing, very well-paid PRIEST a couple of years ago who openly admitted that he didn't even believe in the God he preached. And the British government continues to PAY these idiots! But anyone who knows ANYTHING about religion/magic knows that there aren't a half-dozen churches in any American city with enough of a mana field to repel a vampire, let alone a true demon. Spirituality, ZERO. No wonder Americans need Hollywood and The Force. They cut off any spiritual roots long ago.

My understanding of the Anglican church is the mashup that exists is not a progressive decay, but rather a feature of the organization. As I'd think Martyn Lloyd-Jones would be the first to declare, many people can spend their entire lives glossy eyed in the high church environment, (not unlike their Roman Catholic counterparts), only to discover later in life the investment they've made into the program is more devoid of meaning than the academic and vocational / income generating activities they had occupied their now expiring life chasing.
The spiritual benefits one realizes in this realm of time can be found in worshipping the Creator with others but by no means is at all limited to such times / places. Some of my recent satisfying moments are found recounting tunes and words from songs I learned as a kid, much like when I used to listen to classic rock as a young adult remembering my adolescence, only better, now.
My latest one from a couple days ago: "Life here is grand with friends I love so dear, we get along in sweet accord. But when I face the chilling hand of death, where could I go but to the Lord?"
Sure, I risk being seen by many / most as weak, uneducated, stupid, easily deceived and worse, but those are opinions that have less and less credibility as they offer nothing to / for me if I were to believe them.

I've got friends over here in the UK who base their entire knowledge of the US on Hollywood films. They do the job just fine in promoting the American ideal to people in other countries. It's not for me though.

I went to see it with a bottle of wine... got nicely buzzed so i wouldn't mind it. halfway through the pic i'm going: "Another death star? Is that all they can think of?" Please explain to me one more time about how great your Guy-In-The-Sky Religion and Values are, and what a great contribution you are making to the neighborhood, city, country and the planet. Be sure to include things like: Livable Wages, Employment, Working Conditions, Resource use, Waste disposal, Maintenance, Crime, Education, Health Care, etc -- and why You (as such a peace-promoting neighbor) need to have more G & A than everyone else on your block combined, when you get into fights with said neighbors only on their property.
Then please explain if the Flaw is in one of these:

b. Religion = It's not me. It's someone else

We could definitely do without religion though because the two are really very different things. You can sit on a beach and ponder life and you're being spiritual but if you sit in church that's basically just a particular sect of mankind attempting to insert programing into your matrix not to say they don't have some valid points they all do but then again some of what they teach is flat out wrong.
Hell is one example to keep you in line.
A truly spiritually adjusted person won't not do the wrong thing to avoid hell but to avoid doing the wrong thing if that makes any sense at all?
I was so against religion that for the longest time I tossed out the spiritual baby with that bathwater but trust me it's not a good idea to do this it hurts you the most.
Sprituality is really a personal journey we're all on the ONLY one that really matters as it underpins everything truly human about us all the real virtues can only come from a foundation built on concepts higher than ourselves.
People have largely been inundated with programming either social, religous, political, consumer marketing it's a never ending war for your soul.
I got news for everyone, the war's over my soul is mine and it's the only thing in this world you or anybody else can't take away from me no matter what you do, that is unless I surrender it which is the catch.
All of society and life amoung other men in general is designed to get you to do this. Don't give it up is the only advice I have.
