Tragedy occurred, Thursday in the industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra state when an industrial Gas plant suddenly exploded and with over 100 persons burnt to death.
The explosion rocked the Inter Corp Oil limited(LPG Gas Plant), an subsidiary of Chikason Group.
According to an eye-witness, the fire incident which started at about 11am, was caused by an explosion when a truck was discharging its contents.
The source hinted that all the customers who went to the gas plant to get a refill were allegedly burnt to death while some of the victims who were in the neighborhood and passers-by also got caught in the inferno.
At the scene of the incident, the charred bodies of the victims and other severely burnt persons were taken to Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi.
It was gathered that the inferno did not allow rescue workers into the factory where hundreds were allegedly trapped.

The horrific scene...
Is this what happens when a 'poor' nation loses enough of its oil revenues that safety standards (and the costs associated with them) get abused?

Rambo is back?
low iq has a direct effect on incidents of accidents, africa is prone like no other place on earth. rip
Agreed, it is sad, but low IQ leads to the inability to maintain infrastructure which is likely built with western engineering and know-how.
Erratic/Sproadic logistics and supply lines meant that hundreds were rushing to get gas at the first sign there was available inventory again, instead of on an as needed basis or over time when inventories run at a steady or more constant stream.
I've said on here before (using my previous two handles) that the Chinese are investing in Africa, and that is a good thing as long as the Chinese are maintaining their own infrastructure. While not exactly up to European standards, at least the Chinese do have standards.
All true. Corrupt safety inspections also represent a huge problem in these countries. Far cheaper to pay off the inspectors than implement costly safety measures and equipment.
Even VW finds it cheaper to cheat.
but VW's cheating helped both themselves and their customers (until the USSA goons stepped in)
Just for good measure, I will consider the possibility of industrial sabotage. Of course there is no need for conspiracy when incompetence will do, but just covering my bases.
Historically the lack of safety inspections due to falling oil revenues is not a problem in Nigeria
There aren't any standards or inspections.
The lack of funds is because the government biggies have it all wired to their personal accounts in Switzerland
It is not that complex. It is Bush'e fault. Period!
Let's give that Bush a Nobel Peace Prize. This seems like an important contribution... His succeeder Obama was awarded one for similar or worse contributions.
Gaming the system or transgression of the law or moral rules is what humans have done for centuries. Let's talk about the Dutch Golden Age or Apple and FoxConn.
true the Chinese standards are at least as good as the standards in 2505. The Great Garbage Avalanche is all the proof we need.
Since the USSA and Western Europe, including Germany, are invested in the drastic lowering collective iq of their nations I'm glad the Chinese and Russians are asserting themselves
Or this is what happens when no Neanderthal privilege exists
LOL blaming it on lower energy prices? This is a regular occurence in corrupt third world countries. Oil could be at $200 and their infrastructure would still be crap. The government officials steal most of the funds.
.
And the local 'safety' inspectors are easily and cheaply bought off.
"Is this what happens when a 'poor' nation loses enough of its oil revenues that safety standards (and the costs associated with them) get abused?"
Ah, that's why it's on ZH.
Where is everybody? Oh of course, they actually have a life, with Christmas and shit.
Oh well, they'll make more.
Tylers, did you have to post this right after the Aliso Canyon Massive GasLleak article?
They don't need the gas anymore.
I told them 1120 pvc wasn't thick enough. Used schedule 40 I said, but did they listen. noooo
Sad.
Gosh, what a tragic way to die.
Wasn't it Nigeria that just announce its using the yuan for exchanges? This has nothing to do with safety, except the safety of the USD.
Zimbabwe w/yuan. If it were Nigeria the capital would be gone.
Does anyone have an interest in helping, nay allowing, Nigeria to succeed?
Dear Sir,
I am Mrs. Mariam Abacha, widow to the Former Military Head of State, Late General Sanni Abacha, who died suddenly in a gas plant explosion on December 24, 2015.
Upon his tragic and unexpected death, the new civilian Government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has insisted on probing my family's financial resources and has gazetted all our properties, also. They recently seized all the known family's fund abroad with the assistance of the British Government. It is only this money US$70,000,000.00 (Seventy million US Dollars Only) that he deposited with a security company vault, that they can not trace...
OK, set to blame those sparky acrylic Santa Claus hats. We just knew it would disrupt gas operations. Next year, wet cotton pajamas only.
Question: Do we need to install an external bonding jumper ? This is why under the NEC you are not allowed to use the gas lines as part of the grounding electrode system. Bonding is connecting two conductive items so that no voltage can exist between them. As we surmise a mistake was missed and people are not thinking clearly most the time. Following basic standards is the root failure cause in most accurances. As for the methane leak I would be 10 miles away as a first responder period point blank. Lemmings exist in various short term measures.
God bless those lives lost due to negligence .
100 dead Nigerians? No big deal, the one thing Nigeria has is plenty of black folks.
Usually these things occur in Nigeria after someone has poked a hole in a fuel pipe or maybe even (in this case) a fuel truck and there is a mad rush by locals to "help themselves" to the disgorging, combustible liquid. Often hilarity ensues. Maybe that's not the case this time.
This can to totally attributed to the fact that SHIT HAPPENS! A tragedy, but let's face it folks....it's not like this is an everyday occurrence....my guess is a cigarette and carelessness....KABOOM! aT LEAST THE PERP WON'T HAVE TO SUFFER THE AGONY OF LUNG CANCER.
"Dozens Killed In Huge Nigeria Gas Plant Explosion"
Yeah. I can't wait until the same stories runs for US .gov workers...
Damn, those poor bastards got toasted. On the bright side it looks rather instant, RIP.
Will somebody please pass the cranberry sauce?
Can't wait for the Russians to build nuclear power generating plants in South Africa - there will be an end to the race problems soon enough - too bad about the Boers, but they gave up a long time ago anyway.
Safety third
Is it really necessary to show people burnt to death?
Those aren't people, they are a simian subspecies with small brains and inordinate propensity for violence and absolutely incapable of maintaining anything beyond a grass hut.
