Caught On Tape: Russian Fighter Jets Destroy Huge ISIS Oil Convoy In Transit To Turkey

Tyler Durden's picture

One month ago, after a farcial year-long campaign to "destroy" ISIS, which achieved absolutely nothing but made the Islamic State grow bigger and stronger, culminating with the numerous terrorist attacks in the month of November, former CIA deputy director Michael Morell told Charlie Rose on PBS that the reason the US had never actually gone after the lifeblood of the ISIS regime, its oil supply chain, infrastructure and products, was because "we didn’t want to do environmental damage, and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure."

In other words, the threat of a CO2 emissions spike from bombarding a convoy of ISIS oil tanker trucks far outweighs the millions of dollars in funds it would bring and fund the teaching of hundreds of new terrorists how to blow themselves up in the middle of Paris.

As to not "wanting" to destroy that infrastructure, one wonders why: was it because a down payment had been made by the "president" of NATO-member Turkey?

Luckily as the clip below shows, the Russian military, which has had dramatic success in taking out not only the front end of ISIS (such as today's elimination of the top "rebel leader" Zahran Alloush), but the all too critical back "infrastructure" end, has no such qualms.

So much success, in fact, that the "terrorists", as the Russian Ministry of Defense bluntly calls them, have been forced to deploy new oil trafficking routes to escape the Russian airstrikes.

So far, however, this is not helping, and while ISIS continues to transit as much oil as it possibly can to Turkey where it is subsequently processed and sold to the rest of the world, Russia is making sure that as little of this oil survives and can be monetized, incidentally something the US military should have been doing from day one and paradoxically, something it has yet to do.

Here is a clip released by the Russian Ministry of Defense demonstrating the most severe attack yet by Russian fighter jets on a massive ISIS oil tanker convoy.

And just in case it is still unclear where these trucks are headed, here is another clip showing ISIS oil trucks crossing the Syrian-Turkish border.

Indeed.  Obviously the military doesn't give a shit about environmental damage.  Just as obviously, the infrastructure they don't want to damage is that controlled by multi-national oil interests for whom they work.

Depleted Uranium is not radioactive. It's quite literally Uranium that has been depleted of the radioactive and unstable U-238. It's what's left after you extract the dangerous stuff from it, hence it's "depleted".

I've always wondered why they don't use something like Osmium

Depleted comes out of the centrifuges depleted of the radioactive isotope which is called ENRICHED uranium.

Depleted, not eliminated. Two different things.

from wiki:
(Natural uranium contains about 0.72% of its fissile isotope U-235, while the DU used by the U.S. Department of Defense contain 0.3% U-235 or less).

So about 40%.

Then there's the similarity to lead and it's well know effect on health.

All this in a region composed of highly abrasive sand, with frequent wind storms blowing it just about everywhere, so yeah... it's a problem

Nassim Taleb author of The Black Swan,  seems to be supporting Trump on Twitter.

Now he's starting to defend the Trump phenomenon, not by outright endorsing him or anything like that, but by going on the attack against his moronic and dishonest detractors. He's also started pointing out how there are lots of folks in polite society who may not be open about their support for Trump, but will confess it after a few Christmas party drinks. A recent poll among Taleb's Twitter followers shows 59% support for Trump, with 46% willing to admit it without having to imbibe any Christmas party drinks.

His recent efforts to really go to bat for The Donald seem to be related to Putin's favorable words about Trump, and Trump's reciprocation, hinting at a future where America and Russia are closer to being allies than enemies, particularly over foreign policy in the Middle East. Taleb is even more open about his man-crush on Putin, whom he says many Christians of the Levant, like himself, see as a protector of Orthodox Christianity in the eastern Mediterranean.

I wouldn't think the oil wells need to be destroyed, merely crippled or the terminals crippled. Damn those images of the tankers is like a pipeline on wheels. How the hell are those guys getting the oil refined for fuel in the  trucks?  A little warning in the refining or distribution hub would be mighty effective too.

I may be an arm chair strategist but... given the power to command I could have directed the castration of ISIS as a regional force.

By the way, any correlation with the Egyptian Deity Isis and ISIS? Osiris was the son of Isis and the obelisk represents Osiris. Isis/Osiris from the star Sirius.  Interesting there is an obelisk in DC and the Vatican. The Pope wears a fish hat which has its origins in ancient Babylon and among the Dogon people of Mali.

I've recently heard a theory that the Khazars ( Zionists ) organized the Knights Templar founded in 1111 AD and endorsed by the Pope in 1129 AD. (1111 and 11(2+9=11)11). The Knights were the spear head to retake Jerusalem from the Muslims.  the Knights Templar established Switzerland in 1291 ( 1 [ 2+9= 11] 11). The Templar Knights issued letters of credit (bankers), and though pledged to poverty lived in comparative luxury and gained vast land holdings. They were also exempted from all local laws by the Pope (sound familiar? International bankers are not prosecuted). It seems the French King Philip IV was deeply in debt to the Knights Templar and organized to wipe them out. The Temple Church in the City State of the inner city of London is still used for ceremonial and other secret purposes. This is where the Inns of Court originated from which sprang the ever more complex English and US law.

I was told by a guy with a doctorate degree in organic chemistry that depleted uranium isn't harmful.  Granted he does work in the defense contracting industry, but the use of depleted uranium has no bearing on his job security.  I don't know, but it seems silly that everyone jumps to conclusions just because of the word uranium.  Uranium is a naturally occurring element on our planet, you know.

Since Assad's troops don't control the border checkpoint on the Syrian side, it would be more effective to take out the lead trucks in convoy right before they pass the checkpoint, then take out the trailing trucks, and finally the middle trucks.  Then there would be a giant steel wreck preventing any further trucks from crossing border.

We KNOW that the reasoning the CIA is ginving is pure bullshit.

Could have pretty much stopped it by bombing the fuck out of the PATHWAY, and keep doing it such that it makes it nearly impossible to pass.  Anything getting through would then be bombed, and that number wouldn't be very high because it's pretty damn hard to turn tankers into 4x4 to get through craters.

No, the CIA is just giving stories that the gullable, cannon-fodder public will swallow so that htey cantinue to keep the money flows goiing (and keep everyone in fear).

Yes,  willwork4food,  Why.  Seems lots of people are starting to wonder why the roads aren't simply blocked with craters, why we don't see low level strafing runs taking out miles at a time with every truck being hit, There's something else going on here that we havn't caught on to yet. I've also wondered from day one about the poor video quality - worse than a cell phone camera. There was better detail in the Gulf War. Mysteries...

As an afterthought, compare this to the Highway Of Death in Kuwait. Something fishy here.  Also, don't the Russians have something comparable to the Gatlin Gun on a low-level strafer? Every truck in a ten mile convoy should be burning within just a few minutes.  (A10 Warthogs)

Putins political agenda could involve kicking the neocon warmongers, MIC, and central banksters in the nuts in dribs and drabs, in order to piss them off while simultaneously giving them plenty of rope to hang themselves. Perhaps he wants to make them suffer too, or to entice them to risk even more blatant support for ISIS in retaliation. Their best choice is to shut the fuck up and try to enjoy getting kicked in the nuts on a daily basis.

This oil convoy stuff is mainly in the far east of Syria / Iraq. It is well outside attack helicopter range from their base at Latakia and close to the limit for Su-25 ground attack aircraft. Once the Kuweiries airbase is secured, then such things will be possible.

The US of course could do this easy as pie if it was really interested in fighting ISIS rather than using it as a proxy force.

Yes, I figured this, but, there's still the issue of general direction and at some point they're venturing so far off any straight line that it's going to be tougher and tougher (longer travel times = stresses on logistics).

My comments were meant to question why the US didn't even try it if they were serious about environmental issues.  I mean, what a PERFECT opportunity to both: 1) Claim to be doing something, and showing bombs dropping; 2) Say that they're being sensitive to environmental damage by hitting tankers directly; 4) It could have precluded Russia from getting into that area; and 4) Burning through a lot of bomb means more money flowing through the MIC.

The Russians are doing good but even their efforts are not effective enough.  When they filmed the 12,000 oil tankers in Iraq on the Turkey border they should have been on the phone to Iraq getting permission to launch some cruise missiles.  Putin said a few days ago that they are not getting the results they would like to see and they may have to up the class of weapons they are using.  I been advocating their version of the daisy cutter bombs.  ISIS want's to use terror tactics (beheading organ harvest  etc.)  Give some back to them and do incredible destruction to them and their equipment.  These bombs don't do environmental damage other than if there are trees in the area they will be sawdust.  The desert is the perfect area to use these weapons.

"We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the work is now much more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national autodetermination practiced in past centuries."

David Rockefeller, founder of the Trilateral Commission, in an address to a meeting of The Trilateral Commission, in June, 1991.

One man's intellectual elite is another man's media shills.  I'd say there've been quite a few posters on the Hedge, over the years, who qualify as "intellectual elite".  But I doubt they are the ones Rockefeller has in mind for ruling the world.  Trav for king of the world?  Frances Sawyer?

Looks like you've arrived at the same place I have, Kirk.  "Greater Israel" has become "the world".  Those fuckers are planning on ruling everything.  They already do, in the background, through ownership of the financial system.  But that ain't enough, they want a crown and a throne.

Likely it requires the mutual destruction of the US and Russia, with China thrown in.  We do seem to be on track for that.  Fallback is self-destruction, for the US at least, and that seems to becoming increasingly likely.  And we know from 9/11 that Israel has compromised all the military IT systems, I would guess that they could launch a nuclear strike from the US any time they like, on any country, including the US itself.  I'd suggest that if we saw a sudden exodus of dual citizens from the US to the homeland, it would be time to start digging....

Amazing the parallels with the Protocols.  Almost like it was a real document.

Russia should setup it's own checkpoints supported with air power.  Inspect all the trucks, kill drivers of crude and divert the crude to Assad.

speaking as a nubee, for all the detail ZH goes into in examining these activities, this is nothing new.  and i am familiar with the term "that was then this is now".

these ratlines were developed over thirty years ago by saddam hussein.  loading oil in tankers and sending them overland was his private business stealing oil from his own country.

gee i wonder if that was the reason for the initial PG1 campaign back in 1990.  maybe SH was getting greedy and skimming off the top, like the guys in vegas used to do.  and as most of that was done pre-internet, no, i don't have links of photographs as proof.  i am, however, still resident of enough memory to recall news reports of this activity.  at the time no one paid it any heed.

Iraq presents other challenges for squeezing ISIS revenues. According to Matthew Levitt, an analyst at the Washington Institute, ISIS has monopolized a wide network of smuggling routes and underground pipelines that were built under former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, employing several of the same logistical tactics as the former leader. Ninawa remains the main hub for cross-border smuggling operations and both Hussein’s regime and ISIS have relied on the local Turkmen population (also known as Turkoman) -- the third largest ethnic minority in Iraq -- to run the smuggling networks, according to Kyle W. Orton, an independent Middle East analyst.

and here i though kyle orton was an NFL quarterback.

http://www.ibtimes.com/turkey-russia-iraq-syria-black-market-oil-trade-t...

my point is, as you can tell by the magnitude, this operation has not developed overnight.  it has been decades in the  making.  it is just a different criminal cartel now has control.

so, when isis is dislodged are these ratlines going to stop?  yeah, good luck with that.  over three decades some raghead has been driving a tanker over the same route for different people.  how many of you have had the same job for three decades?  maybe now the drivers can get obamacare?

A very big convoy of trucks.  Very few trucks were actually hit.  I am sure it scared the drivers and I would not be one - but this was not an effective attack.  As soon as the jet was gone they just drive around any wrecks and continue.

Has anyone seen the effective bombing of the Iraqi convoys trying to return from Kuwait?  I believe they called it the highway of death.  When those convoys were hit all the vehicles were destroyed.  There were scores of bodies outside the vehicles.  And how many years ago was that?

Does Putin not have the proper weapons or does he want to allow a majority of the trucks to go through?
