Caught On Tape: Russian Fighter Jets Destroy Huge ISIS Oil Convoy In Transit To Turkey

Tyler Durden's picture

One month ago, after a farcial year-long campaign to "destroy" ISIS, which achieved absolutely nothing but made the Islamic State grow bigger and stronger, culminating with the numerous terrorist attacks in the month of November, former CIA deputy director Michael Morell told Charlie Rose on PBS that the reason the US had never actually gone after the lifeblood of the ISIS regime, its oil supply chain, infrastructure and products, was because "we didn’t want to do environmental damage, and we didn’t want to destroy that infrastructure."

In other words, the threat of a CO2 emissions spike from bombarding a convoy of ISIS oil tanker trucks far outweighs the millions of dollars in funds it would bring and fund the teaching of hundreds of new terrorists how to blow themselves up in the middle of Paris.

As to not "wanting" to destroy that infrastructure, one wonders why: was it because a down payment had been made by the "president" of NATO-member Turkey?

Luckily as the clip below shows, the Russian military, which has had dramatic success in taking out not only the front end of ISIS (such as today's elimination of the top "rebel leader" Zahran Alloush), but the all too critical back "infrastructure" end, has no such qualms.

So much success, in fact, that the "terrorists", as the Russian Ministry of Defense bluntly calls them, have been forced to deploy new oil trafficking routes to escape the Russian airstrikes.

So far, however, this is not helping, and while ISIS continues to transit as much oil as it possibly can to Turkey where it is subsequently processed and sold to the rest of the world, Russia is making sure that as little of this oil survives and can be monetized, incidentally something the US military should have been doing from day one and paradoxically, something it has yet to do.

Here is a clip released by the Russian Ministry of Defense demonstrating the most severe attack yet by Russian fighter jets on a massive ISIS oil tanker convoy.

And just in case it is still unclear where these trucks are headed, here is another clip showing ISIS oil trucks crossing the Syrian-Turkish border.

They are probably integrating the oil trucks in with lots of civilian trucks so they can blame russia for killing civilians. Russia may be trying to hit just the tankers. Just a guess.

Which means these missile strikes are ineffective and will continue to be.   Maybe 6 tankers are hit, all the rest move through.  How much did Russia spend to fly their aircraft to the convoy, the cost of guided missiles, wear and tear on the plane, etc. vs the cost of a beat up tanker.

The cheapest and most effective way would be to strafe convoy with something like an A-10.   Tracer rounds can be used in various ratios, up to all rounds.

This would turn  tanker highway into a flaming highway of hell.  Blasting the convoys could be done in one day of coordinated fury.

Russia has 30 mm gatling guns they could attach to an Ilyushin making something analogous to an AC-130 gunship.

Russia could also unleash  MI28 helicopter gunships on the convoys.

It seems to me Russia's bombing is not going for the jugular on  oil convoys, and is only sending "messages."

I don't usually comment on military tactics, but something smells fishy in Russia's restraint.  There must be some sort of background politics going on to justify the anemic bombing of the convoys.

Spot on. The best weapon to attack them with is the A-10 but for some reason the US is not willing to do that. They even have them stationed in theatre.

Russia could have used its equivalent, the Su-25, but it is not, nor does it look like that it is fully loading with bombs the Su24 or Su-34 that it is using.

The Russians have shown from their actions to date that they know exactly what they are doing. There must be a reason for this.

Or RuAF could be laying a trap for ZATO to get caught red-handed providing cover or intel support to further caliphate convoys.  This proof would not necessarily be shared with us in the peanut gallery, but called in on the private line to work other angles like easing up pressure on Combine forces in western Syria.

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.

Probably the above quote can be used to explain the one bomb hitting the one truck [why not all of them] and the shitty, grainy “videos” that are so bad it must be on purpose. I’m guessing all isn’t as it appears to be …….

I'll buy that.  Because all wars (hot, cold, financial, economic, cultural or demographic) start and end with... PR+Propaganda, i.e. 1. Shaping Perceptions and 2. Setting Expectations.

Russia knows that the West has become so currupt, and its leaders so subservient to the will of DC and NY, that they need to win the War on all fronts -- including the PR/Propaganda war.  At home (first and foremost) and abroad (to wake up its dazed populace).  They are hip to what the US/DOD call "Full Spectrum Dominance". Which means that they are also wise to eternal things like the political, military and economic equivalent/counterparts to: Bandwidth1Entropy2SNR3.

1. Implies the Max Capacity of a system (physical or informational)

2. Deals with the natural and unavoidable effects of Chaos and Random things happening (Fog of War, Murphy's Laws...), as well as its child: "The Law of Unintended Consequences"

3. Signal-to-Noise Ratio (S/N) deals with the Quality of Information transmitted and received.  Nature and human nature will always tend to degrade the quality and quantity of information.

BTW, it is the application of (2) and (3) that makes Kirk laugh at the so-called 'validity' of ancient religious texts, because they are virtually impossible to vet by modern standards.  Which leads me back to my recurrent refrain:  If I won't accept modern heresay, w/o vetting it forensically, then WTF would I put any stock in ancient texts and their ruminations?  The answer, of course, is: "I wouldn't.  If I'm rational.  OTOH, if I insist on being dogmatic/irrational, well, then anything goes".

Since the Russians clearly have the weapons to take out all the tankers, what could be the explanation for why they didn't?  Turkey is paying them not to?  The Russians want the tankers and oil themselves?  By taking out some, they prefer to send a signal for the time being (these are Russian images, after all) and if they don't get from Turkey what they want (and God knows what THAT is, reparations, public apologies/confessions), they will unleash a shitshow later and strafe every tanker they can find?  If what they want is to stop oil going out of Syria into Turkey, why not destroy the oil fields themselves?  Easier (and safer) to hit the fields with cruise missiles than hundreds of tankers with a jet, no?

I agree, something dont smell right....why not go after the oil fields instead of the trucks or even wherever the crude is being refined? And if you are gonna go after the convoys why the fuck are they not cluster bombing? Why are they attacking vertical convoys with single fire missiles? Strategically it makes zero sense.....does anyone know if the oil fields or refiners are being used by legit people or does it all belong to the crazies??? Maybe thats why the Russians are doing this?

1. No, it's logistics. Each bomber only carries a few weapons. They're actually not the right tool for the job. It'd be better handled by the machine guns on a couple of Mi-24 Hinds.

2. The weapons are expensive. A lot more expensive than a tanker of oil.

3. The blast wave and heat will take out several additional tankers.

4. If you hit them enough times people will get the message.

5. In the presentation they specifically mention that A: the tankers are now being disguised as ordinary goods carrying trucks, and B: they are respecting the fact that they were invited in by Syria and they are conforming to international law.

I think the Russians currently don't have(aren't using) the right planes and bombs.  The planes and bombs they are using are meant for modern warfare (to make surgical strikes).

Every once in a while in war the best thing to do is go backward in history.  The Russians need to use ww2 planes and bombs against the tanker convoys.  The damage they are doing now is so minimal but at least they are doing something.  All our guys are apparently busy trying to take 100 rebels in Iraq(after a year of fighting and bombing them) and training and equipping ISIS at our base in Jordan so they can run back and forth across the Syrian border.  Who could write fiction like this?

So my advise to Putin would be:  "Dust off those old planes and bombs still in storage and get them to Syria!"  The Russians learned something similar to this with their T-90 tanks in Syria.  The tank is virtually invincible against most modern weapons but ISIS used an old shoulder rocket and destroyed one.  ISIS managed to film it.  The team that designed the tank must be speechless.  Who wold have thought?

Gotta give huge props to Rus military. And its diplomats. They keep showing us how its done. They keep within the parameters of international law. Unlike us. We just TALK about law. They prove the value of moral sanity. IDK. Maybe their kids were given books to read. Instead of being plopped in front of teevee or handed a remote control simulating "kills" from age 5.

RT has to do the same as the big owned mouth piece media. Repeat it again and again, loud as possible. Each time it will leak upward a little bit more. I am not convinced that everything RT says is all real. But it is a whole lot more real. Keep putting it out there. More independants will pick it up and put it out on an ever wider front. More people might see and hear. A nice aspect of the internet is it's multi threaded routes to the end. Even someone with a far right profile can still get exposed to a thread from a source they might not be funneled into. So many players in Syria and other foreign policy targets are sneaking in with needles and threads. Russia aka Putin, sees the bug and slams the hammer. Sure it isn't altruistic. But it is hopefully reversing the screwups and destruction of the other players. Exposing their dirty deeds and dirty endgames. At the very least, Russia might be able to get Syria back to the point where just Syrians were bitching and troubling the Assad government. Emphasise on " government ". Russia is of course friends with Assad. But in the long view, Assad and Russia are still the better friends to Syrians. I am still hoping to see Iran, Kurds, Iraqis and Hezbolah ground troops moving forward and stomping the creeps out. Even some Russian troops would be good.

Don't kid yourselves, critics of the Russian Air Force.

Each one of those tanker truck drivers has a MANPAD and has been trained how to use it.  The Russians would no more  trade a MIG for one or two tanker trucks than they would trade a Queen for a pawn in a friendly game of chess.

Now the jig is up for Obama and the tanker truck drivers.  The world knows that the Negro gave Erdogan half the profits of the ISIS crude oil sales for Turkish alliance.

And he gave ISIS the other half of the oil sales to fund the increase in terrorism that we've seen since Sept 30 when the Russians joined the fray and entered the Syrian plight.

That highly likely to be wrong.

It looks as if to date no MANPAD has been used against the Russians, or even the Syrians, since September. Not even against low flying helicopters, Su-24 or Su-25.

There must be a reason for this and I doubt it is a tanker driver, with a Stinger in his cab, deciding not to use it.

Sat, 12/26/2015 - 15:41 | 6965550 bid the soldier...
bid the soldiers shoot's picture

Why haven't the Russians already destroyed the 12,000 tanker trucks? Why are they taking their time?  Are they playing cat and mouse with the ISIS tanker pipline to Turkey?

Or are they just being super cautious?  They know that to attempt to destroy over 10,000 tanker trucks in three or four days probably would result in the death of Russian air men and the loss of jets.

The FIM-92 Stinger is a Man-Portable Air-Defense System (MANPADS) that operates as an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM). It can be adapted to fire from a wide variety of ground vehicles and helicopters (as an AAM). Developed in the United States this weapon system entered service in 1981 and is used by the militaries of the United States and by 29 other countries. It is principally manufactured by Raytheon Missile Systems and is produced under license by EADS inGermany and by Roketsan in Turkey with 70,000 missiles produced. (GERMANY AND TURKEY -- 70,000 PRODUCED)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIM-92_Stinger

MANPADs were manfactured in Turkey and there are plenty to pass out to their tanker truck drivers.  I doubt that you have to graduate from West Point to be able to use them

So what's gong on?  In my opinion the Russians are attacking the tankers convoys with an initial surprise pass of four or five jets, which alert the other thousands of truck drivers to get out of their trucks and make for the open fields with their MANPADs at the ready for the second Russian wave.

The wave that never comes.

After the first Russian pass destroys 30 or 50 tankers and all the other drivers are in the fields with their missiles waiting for a second pass, but which never happens.  Two or three hours later the drivers and their missiles return to their cabs. They drive around the burning trucks and inch their way closer to the Turkish border.

The Russians are in no hurry to demolish all of ISIS's trucks, especially if that 'haste' makes for the waste of Russian assets.

This slow death by '1000 cuts' is sufficient for the Kremlin.  Nothing magically changes when Erdogan's last tanker is blown up.

It looks as if to date no MANPAD has been used against the Russians, or even the Syrians, since September.

This is another instance of me being wrong.  Of course, no MANPAD has been used against the Russians BEFORE THE THE Su-24 WAS SHOT DOWN A MONTH AGO.

Prior to that stab in the back, or missile in the tail, we had an idea that Erdogan was either two-timing the Russians or NATO but weren't sure which one.

From the 100's of billions Erdogan was making from ISIS oil we see that he was two-timing Russia. The downing of the Su-24 was the give away.

If MANPADs had been used prior than that, Putin would have been aware of Erdogan's intentions earlier.

Did NATO and the Pentagon refrain from using MANPADs because they thought it would invite a Russian response before the one they got on September 30th or have they used them but the Russian have a defense against them and they were unable to hit a Russian jet and there were, therefore, no news stories about the Russia's ability?

Please JohninMK, don't get overly excited about my intial remark about the truck drivers and their MANPADs.

There could be a Turkish posse comitatus travelling along side the convoys with MANPADS.  Erdogan is not so stupid as to let the convoy roll without some protection.

The main problem for the Russians is that the convoys are beyond range of their attack helicopters and on the limit for Su25 ground attack aircraft. Once Kuweiries airbase is open, that should change.

For those who wonder why Russians don't bomb ALL the trucks: try thinking about whom in fact the oil in those trucks belongs? Haven't you thought about the possibility of the oil being delivered in accordance with US interests? Think again.

Turkey is here just a servant. The oil is needed by the US, not by Turkey. This is the only and main reason why US hasn't destroyed that routes yet. US needs that oil for whatever reason.

Sat, 12/26/2015 - 05:58 | 6964655 smacker

Yeahbut...if the oil was needed by the US - who were therefore leaving the tankers alone - surely that would mitigate towards the Russians trying to bomb all the oil tankers. No? There's nothing quite like giving the US an additional headache.

I rather think the problem is that the Russian bombers are not using the right ordnance. Instead of using small numbers of large bombs which only take out a coupla tankers on each sorty, they should be using small scatter bombs of some sort and just go on a turkey shoot. This could destroy or disable maybe 90% of tankers on each occasion.

The problem with abberant behavior is it leaves them vunerable to blackmail. Which is exactly WHY and HOW deep-state is able to co-opt so many accomplises. Maybe if we focused on the substantive issues. They'd be less exposed to evil influences???

Plus. It just gets tiresome to see the constant repetition of sexual references. As if it matters.

Why is it satisfying to repeatedly point out that Obama is clearly a homosexual?  Because Obama's sexuality is blatant-government-lie-number-12245345 that we are sick and tired of having to pretend we don't all clearly see.

And cracking derogatory jokes about it all is wonderfully cathartic.

He's a fake.  He's a puppet.  He's a 100% manufactured, privately owned entity.  His name, his race, his religion, his politics, his sexuality, his parentage, his education, his birth place, his career, his associates, his every move has been meticulously scrubbed or planned or altered to make him palatable to the general population.

It simply feels good to call someone out on their shit.

Now on the other hand, if Obama wanted to run on the platform of being a homosexual, affirmative action, Alinsky-loving, muslim-born, bastard named Barry Soetoro and he won, then we wouldn't have anything to insult him about would we?

As I recall from my former 'occupation', the ordinance is to be matched to the target. Using high-explosive, hard-target bombs on moving targets (even as slow as oil trucks move in relation to the plane releasing the ordinance) is not all that effecient. If I were advising those seeking to reek the most havoc on the moving convoys, I would suggest CBU's (cluster-bombs) as they cover a much wider area & the fragmentation of the smaller bomblets is still sufficient to set off the tankers. Maybe a C-130 with a small howitzer hanging out the left side would be handy too.  Also, attack helicopters utilizing multiple rockets & 30MM cannon fire would certainly bring on the 'fireworks'. But they have to be certain to drop their leaflets (Bullshit Bombs) before they follow-up with the CBU's......LOL!!!! CBU's can be a real 'game-changer'. Go Vlad, Go!!!!

There are some important questions that need to be asked about these videos.

The main question is this - WHEN was this video made?  This looks like the "early situation" when the Russians first started their bombing runs in Syria.  At that time, these large ISIS oil convoys existed.  But do you really think that ISIS or Erdogan are so stupid that they are still putting all these tankers together in large convoys???  Nobody is that idiotic.

Just because the Russians release this video now - doesn't mean the bombs dropped last week.  Russian intel is smart enough to know how to make the propaganda videos work in their favor.  This is probably an old video, and it might be heavily edited.

However - the fact that these huge ISIS oil convoys did exist in the past - is damning evidence against NATO.  It's a major policy SNAFU for NATO and the USA.  Nobody can claim that they "never knew about this".

TEPCO Confronts "New" Problem of radioactive water

This potential extinction level event (ELE) has been so digustingly mismanaged, it almost looks intentional. No, I am not playing the "culling card", it's just a comparison of ineptitude.

So now they discover that the ground water that was previously flowing into the ocean is actually a lot higher in radioactiveity than they previously thought. God forbid they ever measured it, AND reported it accurately.

So now these nuclear scientists are taking their walled up rad water, and since they stopped building storage tanks around 2 years ago, they have no where to put it, BUT IN THE FREAKING REACTOR BUILDING!

Where it will become much more radioactive!

If we had an effective New World Order, could we convict these "people" of crimes against humanity?

However, the water from four of the wells was discovered to have high levels of tritium–a radioactive substance that is hard to remove–at levels higher than 1,500 becquerels per liter, which means the water cannot be released into sea.

Genel Energy is a company listed on the London Stock Exchange. It has headquarters in London and operating bases in both Ankara in Turkey and Erbil in Kurdistan. Today it is the largest independent oil producer and the largest holder of reserves in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq."

"As a key player in the region of Kurdistan, Genel Energy stands to do well the more successful Kurdistan becomes in continuing to establish itself as an entity separate politically from Iraq."

It's all fishy. First, Russia destroying only a tiny fraction of oil tankers it is capable to destroy and now Israel bombing Hezbollah in Syria again in spite of claimed Russian S-300 and S-400 presence there. Hezbollah is Syrian (Assad's) army and Iran's ally. Qalamoun is over 150 km (~100 miles) north from the Israeli-Syrian border, so the Hezbollah military units stationed there are most likely involved in fighting against Daesh/ISIS/ISIL, Al Nusra and the likes, not Israel.

Well, if the Russian General Staff had known that Field Mashall Jorgen wanted all 12,000 tanker trucks eliminated by yesterday, they'd probably take the General who ordered 'go slow' outside and shoot him.  Never mind what the destruction of 12,000 tanker trucks in a day or two would have had in  costs of men and equipment.

Not to mention the reaction to those 12,000 explosions and fires by the EU countries who have been leaning toward cancelling the Russian sanctions for the last year.

Take a look at a map, the ball sack of Syria (Damascus is is the large, low hanging one) dangles quite close to the borders of Lebanon, Jordan and the Jewish State itself.

And you must be be aware of International Laws which govern firing missiles into the air space of other sovereign nations (i.e.,Lebanon).

If Israel attacks Syria by flying up the Mediterranean to the middle oF Lebanon, then across that country to about 10 miles from the Syrian border where, while still in Lebanon, fires some missiles into Syria at Damascus, can Syria or Russia fire S-400 to bring down an Israeli jet flying over Lebanon?

If Syria had made an arrangement with Lebanon, it would be possible. But obviously no such deal exists.

Lastly, the man in charge of this whole show is V. Putin, who is greatly admired at ZH.  Now if you are up with the latest news, you know that lately he has been much in touch with the PM of Israel and the Russian Generals are conferring with the IDF. They appear to be working out ententes and accords, which we all assume are to the benefit of the Russian alliance both in Syria and no doubt in South East Ukraine as well.
