What Are The Chances For Peace In 2016?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Ron Paul via The Ron Paul Institute for Peace & Prosperity,

Each year more than one trillion dollars goes up in smoke. More accurately, it is stolen from the middle and working classes and shipped off to the one percent. I am talking about the massive yearly bill to maintain the US empire. Washington’s warmongers have sold the lie that the military budget has been gutted under President Obama, but even when the “Sequester” was in effect military spending continued to increase. Only the pace of increase was reduced, not actual spending.

None of this trillion dollars taken from us is spent to keep us safe, despite what politicians say. In fact, this great rip-off actually makes us less safe and more vulnerable to a terrorist attack thanks to resentment overseas at our interventions and to the blowback it produces.

The money is spent to maintain existing conflicts and to create new areas of conflict overseas that in turn feeds the demands for more military spending. It is an endless cycle of theft and deceit.

Billions were spent not long ago overthrowing an elected government in Ukraine and provoking Russia. A new Cold War is a bonanza for the military industrial complex, the pro-war think tanks, and the politicians. NATO is on the move in eastern Europe, placing heavy weapons right on Russia’s border and then blaming the Russians when they complain about the rising militarism. NATO military exercises on Russia’s border have increased and become more confrontational.

In the Middle East, more billions have been spent attempting to overthrow the secular government of Syria over the past five years. The big winners in this grand scheme have been the Islamist extremists, who are funded directly and indirectly by the US and its allies. NATO is planning to go back into Libya, an admission that its 2011 “liberation” of that country has been a disaster.

In Asia, the US empire challenges and provokes China, sending military ships and aircraft into territory China claims in the South China Sea. How much will they continue to escalate before China gets fed up?

The more money sent to the Pentagon and other parts of the Washington war apparatus, the more danger we are in.

Meanwhile, almost all of the presidential candidates promise more military spending and more war if they are elected. Did no one tell them we are broke and making enemies fast with our interventions? Do they think Fed-created money will really continue to fuel the US empire indefinitely?

What are the prospects for a u-turn toward peace and prosperity in 2016? We must be realistic. Presently the numbers are not on our side. But the good news is we do not need a majority to succeed in our fight for peace and liberty. We need only a dedicated and uncompromising critical mass to make great headway.

What can we do to work for peace in 2016? First we must tune out the lying propaganda served up by the US mainstream media. We must educate ourselves so that we can help educate others. We can be sure to tune in and support alternative sources of news and analysis. We can tell others about the wealth of truth available to those who seek and question. We must not compromise and never accept the lesser of two evils.

If the people demand peace, the politicians will follow. Let’s demand peace in 2016!

What percentage of human beings who have ever lived, and of human societies that have ever existed, have experienced or participated in war? For at least 90 percent of humans' existence our ancestors were hunter gatherers who did not know war. Some complex sedentary societies over the past 10,000 years, and mainly over the past 5,000 years, have known war, while others have not. Societies have abandoned war for centuries and then brought it back again, or not brought it back again. Even in some societies that wage far more war than most, the vast majority of the population has no involvement in it. Only for the past couple of centuries has war even remotely resembled what it often is today. And war is changing so rapidly that one might even reduce that to the past half-century.

Speaking for Obama I can tell you that the only way to peace is through sensible gun control laws.  The kind that prohibit owning a gun.  Ever.  Just give me the Second Amendment's head on a platter and I promise you peace.

"Sensible law" is an oxymoron. If it's sensible, it doesn't need to be embossed upon fancy paper, with official seals and whatnot, all so that someone else can claim the mandate to enforce it.

And if it's not sensible... well that's exactly why they need all of the pomp and circumstance to give a flawed idea the appearance of legitimacy.

One thing that upsets me greatly is that our overlords have succeeded in convincing even the most ardent 2nd amendment patriot to use the erroneous term "assault weapon" to describe semi-automatic rifles. Originally "assault weapon" meant a full-auto machine gun with interchangeable high capacity magazines, but nowadays everyone uses the term "assault weapon" to describe a semi-automatic rifle that accepts interchangeable magazines. Sad.

In old runes that peace symbol actually means death to Heathens. Heathens historically were the Germanic people of Europe.

So in reality when the Semites use that symbol, which used to be a symbol signifying their alliance with the communist movement, it means you're promoting the death of Europeans and their culture..

If you think Trump is a Neocon, then you are either grossly misinformed as to Trump's positions, or the meaning of the term.

He and Rand are literally the only two candidates on the R side (Bernie on the D) who don't want to "confront" IE go to war with nuclear armed Russia. Trump wants to talk with him, and make deals. That is not something out of the neocon handbook.

If he were a neocon, he would look just like almost everyone else on the stage.

He is speaking truth to power, and the people love him for it. 2017 on will be quite interesting.

You can't support that.

Let's imagine that Trump is the president.

First, he will be told what it means in reality - like Obama who got his grey hair during his first term in office when his VP kindly explained him the RULES of US Presidency.

The panic of Republicanz is about how difficult it would be to make Trump do what he will HAVE TO DO as the president of the USA. The president will have to follow the act written by Deep State and placed on his table by some figures embeded in his administration. Surely, he will be allowed to keep his toy projects which will be made safe or simply unfunded by the Congress... Like Obama's healthcare...

Trump is not familiar with the system, so the system is puzzled now how to make Trump, the president, the part of the system...

Paul Craig Roberts does not see much chance for peace in 2016:

Why WWIII Is On The Horizon

Paul Craig Roberts Dec 28, 2015

The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 gave birth to a dangerous American ideology called neoconservativism. The Soviet Union had served as a constraint on US unilateral action. With the removal of this constraint on Washington, neoconservatives declared their agenda of US world hegemony. America was now the “sole superpower,” the “unipower,” that could act without restraint anywhere in the world.

The Washington Post neoconservative journalist Charles Krauthammer summed up the “new reality” as follows:

“We have overwheming global power. We are history’s designated custodians of the international system. When the Soviet Union fell, something new was born, something utterly new–a unipolar world dominated by a single superpower unchecked by any rival and with decisive reach in every corner of the globe. This is a stagering new development in history, not seen since the fall of Rome. Even Rome was no model for what America is today.”

At this point in time, nuclear war can only be avoided in two ways. One way is for Russia and China to surrender and accept Washington’s hegemony. The other way is for an independent leader in Germany, the UK, or France to rise to office and withdraw from NATO. That would begin a stampede to leave NATO, which is Washington’s prime tool for causing conflict with Russia and, thereby, is the most dangerous force on earth to every European country and to the entire world. If NATO continues to exist, NATO together with the neoconservative ideology of American hegemony will make nuclear war inevitable.

Peace needs to be defined.  Does peace mean minor activity like we bomb 70% of the world because they might be terrorists?  Does peace mean we take economic advantage of other countries so large populations starve but no shots were fired?  Does peace mean all sides are traded fairly so there is no conflict?

The word peace needs to be defined before there can be an opinion opined.  I think the idea of NATO being disbanded has some merit(never entered my mind before reading it).  We(the west) are working overtime trying to see Crimea collapse.  Nazis running the Ukraine.....is that peace?  ISIS in control of Iraq and Syria...is that peace?

I think there is zero chance of peace.  Welcome to the world that we live in.  Recheck the USA 1959 nuke plan.  Think of all the innocents that would have been vaporized.  If Russia's plan is similar I guess we don't have too much to worry about.  We will get to fertilize the next great society who will do the same thing all over again given some time to rebuild and become corrupted.

Jack Burton said it best.  There are so many levels of alliances (treachery and back stabbing included) it is impossible to keep track of them all.  To think nothing major is going to happen is self serving bull shit (or strong religion convictions).

Back then the idea was slow to take off but I think at last it may be catching steam.

I always thought I would fire mine at Paris, France. I would consider the Federal Reserve Building, but I reckon there would not be much left of that place in any event...

I read his latest book, "Crippled America," unlike most of you armchair political analysts.

Either he doesn't understand the military industrial complex, which makes him an average ignorant American, or he does, and hopes to enrich them, which makes him a corrupt 1%er.

Peace?  I'll settle for a litle piece of that blond chic across the hall with the big chesterfields and the legs that go all the way down to the floor.

Well maybe.  So far they're still reaching for the stars.  Only her plastic surgeon knows for sure.

<-- the bastards running the USA govt have found the ultimate way of making huge money by running perpetual wars all over the world.

They create the contingency & risk by creating & arming terrorists in foreign lands , blaming legitimate govts. when war starts they send their def. contrators & after war they use the govt. money to rebuild  at 100 times the cost .

And where there is already democracy they fund NGOs to rise against the legitimate govts. Using NGOmoney these groups create political parties, win elections & become puppets of USA (& west)

The USA govt. is totally immoral, perverse, pro-violence, anti human & evil. And so is the entire west.

Band of thieves, pirates & blood thirsty vampires.

Peace has never existed and never will. Even the "Pax Romana" was a total fraud. Peace is like a perfect circle...a figment of human imagination

There will always be power tripping psychopaths looking for the next great conquest, and always people to fight their battles.

Pox Amerikana will either kill the planet or the parasite itself. Either way war is finally coming to the USSA. Never too late to prepare and the best preparation is to get as far away from the USSA as possible.

Karma ALWAYS catches up!

Looking for Black Swan event? Then Peace in 2016 qualifies. Narrative of escalation of WW3 is consensus. But if peace does break out in an unexpected way, what would you buy or sell?

In one of Toronto's free daily newspapers, this little tidbit was included today:

"ISIS is the only the most recent  and most obscene eruption of barbarism to be visited on the Arabs of Iraq and Syria. It was incubated, and more or less conjured into existence by the Assad regime so Assad could present the revolution against him as jihadist, and himself as ISIS's sworn enemy.."

I can't believe the BS peddled to the public these days.
