In Latest Blow To Apple, Taiwan Makers Cut iPhone Shipments Up To 10%
While the straws have been building on the camel's back of Apple's "no brainer" status over the past few months, today's news from DigiTimes appears to be the most damning yet on the 'peak Apple' phenomenon. Apple share are fading off early market highs as demand for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus appear to have slowed down recently, shipments of iPhone devices from production lines in the fourth quarter of 2015 are likely to be 5-10% lower than originally expected, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
The lowered factory shipments are in line with the latest forecasts of iPhone shipments in the consumer-end market, said the sources, adding that most market research firms have lowered overall iPhone device shipment estimates for the fourth quarter of 2015 to 72-75 million units, compared to 76-78 million units predicted earlier, indicated the sources.
Furthermore, overall iPhone shipments for the first quarter of 2016 have also been lowered to 52-56 million units from the previous estimate of 58-60 million units. The revised figures also represent a decline of 12-15% as compared to a year earlier.
Facing declining demand, some makers in the iPhone supply chain have reduced overtime shifts since November and could move the Lunar New Year holidays ahead of schedule, indicated the sources.
Foxconn Electronics' iPhone manufacturing plant in Zhengzhou, China has been indicated as one of the plants which are likely to shift their Lunar New Year holiday schedule, said the sources.
However, Foxconn said that operations at its Zhengzhou plant remain normal and it will implement the holiday schedule in accordance with related regulations as well as the willingness of its workers.
For now, traders seem willingly oblivious to the news...
Of course this is not the first knock for Apple in recenet weeks:

The news out of Apple is starting to sound very Blackberry-like. The early part of the downfall where everyone was saying "No, no, it's fine. They're still doing great. They have a presence in almost every company in the world. That's not just going to go away overnight. And the new models are coming out soon, too. Buy this stock."
I thought that huge ship docking in California is FULL OF IPHONES. ;-)
Looney
... it are Samsungs.
I bought an unlocked ASUS Zenfone2 for $229, thinking if I didn't like it, I"m not out $700 for an iPhone or Galaxy s6. It's actually quite a nice phone if you get rid of the Android bloatware. If a 5.5" screen phone can be sold for $229 (16GB version), both Samsung's and Apples insane margins are at risk.
Good that you found an alternative! The reason why they could have suchs high margings is because people were willing to pay for it (A LOT of people payed for it!). Well, when the economy crashes this time we do not need telephones anymore. Two tin cans connected via a cord will suffice.
Peak niggertech?
with an arrogant phaggot driving the bus
I think we reached Peak Iphone.
Yes, but BB has security/encryption technologies that will keep them going for a long time.
AAPL has a nice logo.
gonna throw my phone away.... don't need it in the desserted island i am going to.....
China is making very good smart phones at a quarter of the price of the iPhone. They will displace iPhones in emerging markets.
Welcome, Apple, to a deflationary world.
Agreed. China is making all smart phones. You must mean a Chinese company, like Xiaomi.
brought a Xiaomi phone after having several iphones.
iPhones are shit, iOS is full of bugs, and iTunes is the most unuser friendly product on earth.
Why pay a heap more for a sub standard product??????
Crapple source.
Really, who takes mainstream financial news seriuously. The same holds for most recommendations like e.g. "buy", "sell" and "hold". At the end of January the company will release their financial results. I will be waitinng at the other side...
AAPL is a has been
Let's stay focused on Disney and the Star Wars debut and the boon in trinket sales will provide to global economy
God DAMN!! That movie fucking sucked ballz! I wish JJ would die in a fire for what he did. I would rather watch 24 hours of Jar Jar than that God Damned abomination of a "movie". Oh yeah, and fuck Apple too!
I guess analysts/media/minor suppliers didn't take Tim Cook's comment in the earnings call ("channel checks are pretty much useless, go find another job") too lightly. Pathetic vengeful attempt on speaking the truth.
We got ipads for the 5 year bonus at my company a few years ago. beats the hell out of me why anyone would spend that much money on those stupid things. Same with iPhones.
Apple without Jobs methinks I remember something about it not working out well in the past?
LMFAO!!!! I WANT MOAR AHPULL GADGET CRAP!!!
The era of the smartphone entered the "appliance" category a couple of years ago. They, for most people anyway, have gone from a luxury item to a useful tool like a dishwasher. Sure, you can still do dishes by hand but who wants to do that? The same thing happened to PC's about 15 years ago. The big problem with Apple is they have long since stopped being THE phone to have for anyone other than the fanboys.
Android phones have matured enough that spending $300 will now get you a high spec off-contract phone that will last you for years without need of replacement. Apple was always great at innovating (with Jobs at the helm) but is awful at dealing with competition. Just yesterday I bought a Nexus 6 with 64gb of storage from Amazon for $300. The same thing from Apple would set me back $750, and have a smaller screen and lack wireless charging.
Jobs by now would have had some other new invention out that everyone would be convinced that they need, but with no Jobs, Apple employees will eventually have no jobs.
Brilliant line - but with no Jobs, Apple employees will eventually have no jobs!
Who is going to buy a 600$+ iphone when they can do MORE with a 145$ Octacore Mediatek Android.
All pimped up Octacore Android 5.1, 3GB Ram +16GB flash + FHD display 5.5'' gorilla glass 3, 13Mp back camera, 5Mpixel front camera, all GPS/Accelerometer you name it.
And the apps are also mostly free.
So why would anyone buy a thing Less usefull and 3 times more expensiv ?????
Oh, also the Mediatek thing is also 4G and as TWO Sim cards ...meaning you can have Two Phone numbers on the same Phone!
There is not even a closo comparison on those inexpensives Octacores from Mediatek and iphones ...the price/featrures is hugelly favorable to those smartphones.
iphone is about to take a hit.
Whilst Apple (and Samsung) are well overpiced, the fact that the other phone companies have to sell theirs so cheap does say something.
I thnk it will be a few more years before Apple and Samsung loose their marketing edge.
I mean, who wnats to show of theri no name phone?
