Gun Sales Surge In Switzerland As Army Chief Warns "Arm Yourselves"

Tyler Durden's picture

It would appear the people of Switzerland have been listening to their military leaders. Having recently been warned by the Swiss army chief of growing social unrest, SwissInfo reports applications for gun permits in Switzerland increased by 20% between 2014 and 2015, according to a survey conducted in 12 cantons. But while the army proposes "arm yourselves," Swiss crime prevention officials warn against the false sense of security that guns bring.

Whereas in 2011 numerous people in Switzerland voluntarily gave up their firearms, today more and more people are purchasing guns.

Swiss army chief André Blattmann warned, "The threat of terror is rising, hybrid wars are being fought around the globe; the economic outlook is gloomy and the resulting migration flows of displaced persons and refugees have assumed unforeseen dimensions," adding that "Social unrest can not be ruled out."

He further recalled the situation around the two world wars in the last century and advised the people of Switzerland to arm themselves...

And, as SwissInfo reports, it appears they have...

Applications for gun permits in Switzerland increased by 20% between 2014 and 2015, according to a survey conducted in 12 cantons by Swiss public television, SRF.

The survey, published on Wednesday, showed that in the 12 (out of 26) cantons surveyed, the Swiss are increasingly interested in purchasing pistols, rifles and other firearms for private use.

The greatest increase – more than 70% – was measured in canton Vaud, with more than 4,200 applications in 2015, compared with 2,427 in 2014.

There is a general climate of uncertainty and an increased fear of intruders, said Pierre-Olivier Gaudard, head of crime prevention for canton Vaud.

But Martin Boess, director of Swiss crime prevention, warned against the false sense of security that guns bring.

“When there are more guns in circulation, there is a greater danger for society,” he said in an interview on the 10 vor 10 news programme. “That’s shown by experience in places like the United States. When there are more guns, there are more accidents with guns.”

In Switzerland, with more than 8 million inhabitants, there are about 2.5 million legal weapons, around half of which are used for Swiss military service.

*  *  *

And while the Swiss go about their legal business of arming themselves, President Obama is preparing to unleash another weapon - the executive order - to enact gun-control legislation.

Facing stiff resistance to gun-control legislation in Congress, Mr. Obama has signaled that he plans to act on his own. The president has directed administration officials to explore any steps he could take on guns without lawmakers’ help, and he said in his weekly address that he would sit down with Ms. Lynch on Monday “to discuss our options.”

“I get too many letters from parents, and teachers, and kids to sit around and do nothing,” Mr. Obama said in the address, which was released Friday morning.

Gun-control advocates who are familiar with the White House’s plans say Mr. Obama could lay out multiple executive actions as soon as next week, and administration officials have confirmed that recommendations for the president are nearing completion.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Mr. Obama asked his team to “scrub existing legal authorities” and assess actions that could be taken administratively.

Free-dom indeed.

You see a man with his eyes set...               ...and his head on a bias and his teeth like a mule's.               He'd as soon hang your guts on a fence as say, "Good morning."               He's a gunfighter.               Proud and feared of nothing...               ...because there ain't nothing he gotta bow down to.               Every man tips his hat. Every boy knows his name.               Ain't no place he ain't welcome.               When a gunfighter's around, trouble naturally stays away.               Folks saying, "Hiya, Kid!"               "How you doing, Kid?"               "Come in for a pitcher of milk and gingerbread!"               Or, "Come up here and cool your heels. Why anybody obeys Obama’s executive orders I do not know. Obama does not obey the law, why should anybody obey his executive orders. If I was under Obama’s command I would just say, “Yes, Sir” then go about what I was doing before and not bother with him.

Well. I might observe that for each of the few billion or so “explosive devices” that exists in the evil munitions stores of the DHS, there exists at least a dozen or so of them in free, private hands.

They don’t yet understand that they don’t really want to go there.

“Executive orders do not supersede the Bill of Rights.”

The Bill of Rights only served to clarify the restrictions on government until the early 1900’s.

Since then it has been used to restrict the freedoms enshrined in the original Constitution for the convenience of the oppressive government and the Finance Class..

The fact is that “rights” in the Constitution are defined as natural and given by nature (and nature’s God).

How very ancient Greek and western renaissance, Magna Carta and such in thought.

Get this through your heads..

The 2nd Amendment does NOT give you the right to keep and bear arms..

It just serves to remind the government that the right is natural and will not be infringed by whatever dysfunctional iteration of US government exists and still pretends to abide by the Constitution.

I must disagree.

I am of the opinion that enforcers of .gov will fire on american civilians. LE already does, and soldiers do it in foriegn countries. If I were in charge, I'd bus the grunts far away from the areas where they live, i.e. cali law enforcement being sent to rhode island. This will make it easier for them to obey their orders as they won't have a connection with the local population. If not LE, then they'll do this with soldiers.

Ultimately, I expect the minions of .gov to obey for as long as the PTB can garuntee the safety of their families.

Look, the govt is more aware of this than we are.  You probably wont see soldiers or police assigned to regions where they have family or friends if avoidable.

Its also important to remember that these people have been conned into shooting the innocent and persecuting those people who are committing victimless 'crimes.'  They are designed to be a unified force who does not question orders. They were specifically hired on the merit of not being too smart. A lot of them dont even have many friends outside of LE anyway. I do think you could order many, if not most, to arrest their own (or stand aside while other officers do) with the right story and preparation.

Yup... so much for merit based hiring when the CFR globalists that run the US government want their own fascist goon squads. Police today can be commanded to do anything against the population and have the lack of intelligence to actually be able to feel righteous about it.

This is quite true. In fact, it is policy to limit the entry of police candidates to those within a narrowly restricted range of IQ, something like 95-105, which ain't too bright, even though 100 is the average. So these people are limited cognitively to their training and following orders. Their training and their ability to follow orders IS their skillset.

Like I said, not too bright.

I happen to be an electrical engineer. I have a very high IQ compared to almost all cops and a very unique skillset. Cops are used to ganging up on the dregs of society, which typically are as dumb as they are but less disciplined. And they do gang up on them. Cops operate in numbers.

So, what happens if they had to go up against people with backgrounds in engineering, SW, physicists, mathematicians, professional managers with years of leadership and logistical experience, analysts in various fields (demonstrates strong strategy ability) and other folks who have operated all their lives on a paradigm of solution synthesis and have functional IQ's 20, 30, 40 or more points higher than these guys? What happens when the guys that can analyze and then synthesize solutions on the fly - many with unique and sophisticated technical skillsets - have to defend themselves from a bunch of meatheads who's modus operandi is to "follow their training" because other than barely being able to hold a spoon in their mouths, that's the level of cognitive ability that most of them peak out at.

Ballin, what I'm saying is that intangibles such as being highly educated, highly intelligent, and highly motivated do matter. I think .gov considers these things also, which is why I am not so sure that they would cavalierly pull some stunt like that which you are inferring. Plus, some of the cops are not morons, and they will be the first to bail. Same with a lot of military also, and then you have the veterans on top of that. Just not so sure that the threat inferred here too often is as acute as some think.

Then again, beaurocrats are as dumb as cops so all bets are off there too.

Tall Tom's picture

does not mean that A implies B.

No.

It does not mean that A, NECESSARILY, implies B...but it can.

You needed to add the adjective because, of course, that also does not mean that A cannot imply B.

Here is an example of where A implying B is true.

If A then B,

If B then C

Thus if A then C

...is an example.

In that case B becomes a necessary fact.

But

If A then C

If B then C

Does not mean if A then B.

But it does not mean that it cannot be that way,

Conversely, in many cases, it must be that way.

In fact it is rather duplicitous to leave out that qualifying adjective....in order to make a point.

Do you really want to argue about Boolean Algebra with me?

Like I said in a prior post. There are some smart cops. Intellect is Capacity x Utilization, so I believe that the smart cops are the ones on the higher boundary of the allowed intelligence range AND they use their capacity to the greatest extent.

Like I said, Capacity x Utilization. Por ejemplo, my sister is pretty smart. 140 IQ and a talented Nurse Practitioner. But outside of her vocation she is dumber than a bag of hammers. She doesn't WANT to think. She wants to recreate and be sociable. To her, learning is a chore, even though it comes easy to her. So, and I say this to promote a concept qualitatively, she probably has a utilization of 65%, which gives her an effective IQ in the low 90 range. Conversely, I think the smart cops (like detectives) do not have above average intelligence, but they do use what they have to the greatest extent possible.

In this unlikely scenario that many speak of, smart cops will bail first, and bail fast.
