Gun Sales Surge In Switzerland As Army Chief Warns "Arm Yourselves"

Tyler Durden's picture

It would appear the people of Switzerland have been listening to their military leaders. Having recently been warned by the Swiss army chief of growing social unrest, SwissInfo reports applications for gun permits in Switzerland increased by 20% between 2014 and 2015, according to a survey conducted in 12 cantons. But while the army proposes "arm yourselves," Swiss crime prevention officials warn against the false sense of security that guns bring.

Whereas in 2011 numerous people in Switzerland voluntarily gave up their firearms, today more and more people are purchasing guns.

Swiss army chief André Blattmann warned, "The threat of terror is rising, hybrid wars are being fought around the globe; the economic outlook is gloomy and the resulting migration flows of displaced persons and refugees have assumed unforeseen dimensions," adding that "Social unrest can not be ruled out."

He further recalled the situation around the two world wars in the last century and advised the people of Switzerland to arm themselves...

And, as SwissInfo reports, it appears they have...

Applications for gun permits in Switzerland increased by 20% between 2014 and 2015, according to a survey conducted in 12 cantons by Swiss public television, SRF.

The survey, published on Wednesday, showed that in the 12 (out of 26) cantons surveyed, the Swiss are increasingly interested in purchasing pistols, rifles and other firearms for private use.

The greatest increase – more than 70% – was measured in canton Vaud, with more than 4,200 applications in 2015, compared with 2,427 in 2014.

There is a general climate of uncertainty and an increased fear of intruders, said Pierre-Olivier Gaudard, head of crime prevention for canton Vaud.

But Martin Boess, director of Swiss crime prevention, warned against the false sense of security that guns bring.

“When there are more guns in circulation, there is a greater danger for society,” he said in an interview on the 10 vor 10 news programme. “That’s shown by experience in places like the United States. When there are more guns, there are more accidents with guns.”

In Switzerland, with more than 8 million inhabitants, there are about 2.5 million legal weapons, around half of which are used for Swiss military service.

*  *  *

And while the Swiss go about their legal business of arming themselves, President Obama is preparing to unleash another weapon - the executive order - to enact gun-control legislation.

Facing stiff resistance to gun-control legislation in Congress, Mr. Obama has signaled that he plans to act on his own. The president has directed administration officials to explore any steps he could take on guns without lawmakers’ help, and he said in his weekly address that he would sit down with Ms. Lynch on Monday “to discuss our options.”

“I get too many letters from parents, and teachers, and kids to sit around and do nothing,” Mr. Obama said in the address, which was released Friday morning.

Gun-control advocates who are familiar with the White House’s plans say Mr. Obama could lay out multiple executive actions as soon as next week, and administration officials have confirmed that recommendations for the president are nearing completion.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz said Mr. Obama asked his team to “scrub existing legal authorities” and assess actions that could be taken administratively.

Free-dom indeed.

The new Europe: Poland wants more US and less EU

German Economic News | Published: 02:01:16 02:15 Clock

Poland's new course is highly dangerous for the EU: The government in Warsaw holds Brussels for weak and will prefer to attach to the US and NATO. In Washington, the development is seen with pleasure. With an old, nationalist Master Plan a wedge between Germany and Russia could be driven.

The US Ambassador to Poland, Stephen D. Mull, 2015 in an F16 fighter jet of the Polish Air Force in the air base poses, August (photo: dpa) http://deutsche-wirtschafts-nachrichten.de/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/DW...

The new Polish government is driving a surprisingly hard collision course with the EU: The reorganization of the Constitutional Court and the state television and radio have been decided in a hurry. The European Commission is concerned about the media reform in Poland and expects Warsaw explanations. A corresponding letter sent to the first vice-president of the Brussels authority, Frans Timmermans, on Wednesday at the Polish government. "This is a wake-up call," it said at the EU Commission.

In the letter Timmermans requested by Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski information on the consistency of the legislative amendments with EU law. He also draws attention to points where the reform could violate European law. He also recalls "the need to promote the diversity of the media". Poland is unlikely to persist in reform of the state broadcaster: The government has already announced its intention to convert even the publishing industry radically. So should foreign ownership be put under the microscope, which would mainly affect German and European publishers who earn good money for years in Poland.

It is the second letter, the Timmermanns sent within a week to Warsaw. On December 23, he warned the national conservative government already before, constraining the independence of the Constitutional Court.

Polish Parliament and Senate have yet decided the controversial amendment to the restructuring of the public television and radio. The ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS) wants to convert these media into national cultural institutes and exchange as a first step, the previous directors.

The EU is alarmed and will discuss the developments in Poland since the new government took at the meeting of the European Commission on January 13, dpa reports from Brussels.

The PiS pursued an agenda whose long-term significance is revealed only on closer examination of the relationship with the EU and the USA: The PiS is Euro skeptical and critical of Germany and Russia.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said already a few weeks ago that he wished more less EU and NATO. The government has put in Russia restlessness, as she thought aloud, nuclear missiles NATO to deploy on Polish territory. Today Poland is the most important bridgehead of NATO against Russia.

The interests of the PiS are consistent in this respect with those of the US defense industry, and NATO and they follow an old idea, which already go back to the legendary Polish leader Jozef Pilsudski from the period after the First World War. It is the so-called "Intermarium" concept, which originally should aim to prevent an alliance between Germany and Russia, by a strong alliance belt is pulled through Eastern Europe. In this case, part of the envisaged belt Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Other belt components to be mated with the Intermarium to encircle Russia in the West, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia are. Ukraine should also include Intermarium - but because the East Ukraine falls away.

Duda reactivated the concept and said recently in an interview with Polish Press Agency: "I'm thinking about to set up a partnership block extending from the Baltic to the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The state is strong when it is surrounded by allies. "

The Intermarium intended to prevent both a dominant Russia as well as a dominant Germany and the combination of the two should also be prevented. This in turn is precisely the foreign policy doctrine of the US military, in which is formulated as a main goal to prevent an axis of Germany and Russia. The doctrine is the backdrop of sanctions against Russia, the EU decided on behalf of the US and have just extended has - despite all the official reasons are advanced. Russia has in fact tried in the past few months, the situation in the eastern Ukraine to relax, what appears to be managed with regard to the rebels. The funded by EU taxpayers and directed by the US government in Kiev, however, has done everything possible to portray Russia as an aggressor. Poland which therefore also a driving force, which has represented the renewal of sanctions as indispensable in the EU. In the anti-Russian view of work, moreover, the PiS and the previous government hand in hand: The former Prime Minister and current EU President Donald Tusk had the agenda so designed that a fundamental discussion of sanctions for lack of time was not possible.

The PiS can react with a new form of concept Intermarium two objectives:. You can emancipate themselves from Brussels How strong this desire is, it has been shown with reference to the refugee debate: The Poles will absorb any Muslim refugees. The threats from other EU countries such as Austria and Germany, are counterproductive in this regard. The threat, if necessary, to shorten the poles EU money is hollow: was seen in Greece, and to the US will insist that the NATO country remains in the EU. The Grexit debate from the beginning was a sham debate. NATO had made it clear from the outset that Greece has to remain in the euro. The military spending had to be exempted from the austerity programs.

For the US government, especially for the military-industrial complex, the EU is already an incomprehensible vehicle: The permanently warring States are not taken seriously as an interlocutor, the EU president have nothing to report in Washington. Warsaw and Washington have a common goal, which stands above all others: It is a more stable military block against Russia be reformed. According to the Americans act on NATO in all relevant States: In Serbia, the NATO membership should be enforced by hook or crook. Ukraine is the Association Agreement with the EU in fact on their way to NATO. In Georgia, there is just another government crisis, as in Moldova.

The Polish military is already built up massively from the US in this context, reports. Defense News that the development of the US defense industry runs quite low: The new government wants to scale back their planned orders of EC725 Caracal helicopters to Airbus. Instead, the helicopter types Black Hawk from the US company Sikorsky will be purchased. Under discussion are also orders of AW 149 helicopters to the British-Italian group Augusta Westerland. But Sikorsky should definitely get the larger order.

The storming of the NATO-espionage center in Warsaw was not directed against the US, although allegedly passing on secret information to the United States to have been the trigger for the action. But probably the action was a clever move by the national-conservative government to show that it is not a "vassal" of the United States. The protests from the United States held logically in borders, NATO has emerged no harm.

In this context, the assessment of the private intelligence agency Stratfor's interesting: In an analysis, Stratfor is indeed concerned about the developments in Poland. Short the controversy over the constitutional court is striped, the media war is not even mentioned. Stratfor warns, however, explicitly warning that it could lead to distortions with NATO - perhaps in the form of the NATO recently launched idea of ??not wanting to stop in Warsaw to mark the upcoming summit. But Stratfor noted a meeting between US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Polish counterpart Witold Waszczykowski. Both politicians have emphasized that there would be no doubt about the close and steadfast cooperation in NATO.

Americans are most concerned that the Polish government could consist of domestically reckless steps: Thus US companies must be protected, new taxes for banks and corporations, as the government plans will be rejected. And also the military spending may not be shortened. The same NATO had already called for in the case of Greece. Now writes Stratfor, that the new government could scale back the modernization of the army - a project for its ambitious implementation Stratfor's party Tusk expressly praises. What you do not want to see in Washington, however, "proposals to reduce taxes and to grant subsidies for poor households, which funds could be withdrawn from the modernization of the military" are.

The new government will probably not close these wishes. The close partnership with the strong US Army is their life insurance. In Warsaw, we know that the top of Washington always the sub from Brussels stands.

So, desire to split from Brussels and German political influences, and the need to manage German strategic links, especially east with Russia, and the need to build a military 'front-line-State' barrier against Russia, and make Germany take the back seat in EU foreign policy and NATO planning, procurement and deployment, even of nuclear weapons, but not a lot of Polish economy and revenue to do it with, even as the EU threatens to reduce the money flow if they don't make Brussels and Berlin happier, and suck down the Brussels and Berlin propaganda and policies, like a good little weak dependent nothingness that no one listens to.

Yeah ... but I think the Polish democratic system elected the new Govt with a mandate to follow Poland's strategic security interests, rather than EU Commission and Berlin head-pats.

And with Washington and Pentagon support, they will. So Merkel will be increasingly shoved aside, and simply not listened to, in all of Eastern Europe (with the possible exception of Austria). And they're clearly still worried about Russian influences in the Balkans, so they are definitely going to back Turkey in all spats with Russia. Plus Turkey is in that arc of NATO front line states against Russian coercion or military action and threats, so Turkey will support Poland, and the countries in between, to enable a re-arming of eastern Europe. Which will delight Washington and greatly extend its influence, past Merkel-esqe objection-ism in Germany and Brussels.

Germany will be a Moslem nation and unsafe for Americans soon anyway.  Time for the "Amis" to leave.  Germans don't generally like Americans very much either so good riddance on both sides.  Poles, on the other hand, love Americans.  And, unlike Germans, Poles are actually able and willing to fight.  Germans are pussy leftists pacifists run by childless old women with short hair cuts.  A pathetic nation of cucks that simply CANNOT fight.

As for Merkel becoming irrelevant - she already is.  Her legacy is the genocide of Western European peoples and Christianity.  By the time German cucks wake up and find their balls and realize that only strength matters in this world they will be 30% Moslem, 15% African, and 100% fucked.  My advice to any Western European is: learn English, move to America, buy guns.

"Executive orders can be overturned by either of the other two branches: the Supreme Court can do so through a case that is brought in front of them and Congress can do so by passing legislation that would conflict with the order or by refusing to approve funding to enforce it. "

This is why it's so important to vote in the primaries and make sure the current sociopaths don't stay in office.  Any of the least-financed from any party would be acceptable for one term, simply because the odds are at least 99 to 1 they are NOT sociopathic. Since they know they're only have to survive the stink and slime of D.C. for two years, they'll be much more apt to vote as you would vote on important legislation.  They will also have to live with what they did for the rest of their lives in their old neighborhood.  I'm NOT dreaming.  This is the ONLY way America and Americans can be repected again.

One of the things I have always wondered about is the Gun Show loophole. If I buy a mail order gun, it gets shipped to a licensed dealer who runs a background check. If I buy in a store they run a background check. These background checks do not have people 'up in arms'. Every gun I bought has had a background check.

I think it is a legitimate concern that Joe Gun Guy - a small part time gun seller - may go to a gun show and sell a couple guns - and not know the procedure or have the equipment/forms to do a background check - especially when 'on the road'. I would oppose any law making Joe responsible for doing the background check. However, why not have a law where the gun show operator sets up a booth to do background checks at every gun show? Joe gets a customer and hands him a form with the gun info on it, then tells customer to go to the Check Booth, customers gets checked out by people that know what they are doing, comes back to Joe with the verified form, and Joe gives the customer the gun. If this helps to keep criminals, thugs, and terrorists from getting a gun, then I am for it.

By the way, I do oppose any 'mystery lists' that the government sets up to deny someone getting a gun. We do not need bureaucrats, liberals, or judges 'randomly and indiscriminantly identifying' just who loses a Constitutional right.

I notice they use America as an example of the evil of guns, yet in most places in the world other than Europe and China, where there is strict gun control, the murder rate far exceeds the murder rate in the US.  Places like, the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Africa, SE Asia. These people are simply racists who make these comparisons, because they also do not tell you that blacks and Latinos do most of the murders in the US too.  They also forget to mention that once every few years the governments of Europe and Asia, where there is gun control, go insane with power, because there is nobody to stop them, and start wars where tens of millions of people are massacred, but they don't want you to think about that. Governments are the real dangers to the people.  Governments and their criminal thugs they let loose to run about the country.

I actually think they'd be speaking their native tongues, likely with the Russians in control.  They (Russians) formed all the baltic countries into the soviet block countries at the conclusion of the war.  I would think Stalin would simply have added to the list at the end of the war, which, I believe, would likely have been won by the Russians without American help as long as the British were able to maintain a western front.

Sure Einstein, but when there are more cars, there are more accidents with cars.  This guy knows the MURDER RATES in the US are lower than many developed nations.  They manipulate these numbers by, for example, including US gun suicides in the death numbers and excluding murders in other countries that don't involve guns, then claim the US isn't as safe as other developed nations.  The US has just as many guns as it needs, what it has an exess of are black males between the ages of 14 and 40, maybe 5% of the population, who are committing more than 50% of the crimes.  How about we ship a few million to Switzerland and see what that does for their safety?

Yes, Even Russian media (Sputnik) is getting on the train about the right in the US to own weapons. Read what a former US Ambassador (Republic of Congo) has to say about his countrymen's right to keep and bear arms... and I imagine he also took that joke of an oath to defend the constitution:

“At home, it sells the guns that are used, virtually without control, to slaughter innocent groups of people, including in churches and schools,” the former US Foreign Service officer elaborated in his article for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Or how about this: “Our corrupt and conscienceless federal and state legislators lack the courage and brains to stop it. And this is not just about the National Rifle Association; it is also about the arms manufacturers and dealers that finance the NRA so that it can exercise influence in Washington and state capitals.”

What really gets me is how Russia, Russians claim to respect other nations cultures and constitutions and international law then print inflammatory statements without bothering to tell it's people that gun ownership is a constitutional right in the US.  If Russians want their government to restrict them in this way that is their business and their right and I respect that,,, but to start applying this agenda to US citizens is flat out wrong. The rest of the article about the US buying , invading other nations is on the mark and it was unnecessary to include a traitor to our constitution comments. To Russia and Russians. Switzerland is probably one of the worst countries to invade. It's just a waste of resources to come here.

Ignore, disobey, nullify.

Thinks they can go up against millions of pissed off Americans and take their firearms. Really? * Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,,,includes the ability to defend oneself with a firearm if needed.
