Something Went Wrong In Baltimore
It has been a bloody year in Baltimore, that much everyone knows, but as The Economist shows, something changed dramatically after Freddie Gray's death in April...
On November 14th the police department reported the city’s 300th homicide in 2015, a total not seen since 1999.
The surge in killings in the majority-black city of roughly 623,000 began after the death on April 19th of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who was fatally injured while in police custody. Since Mr Gray’s death the city has recorded 244 homicides, a 78% increase over the same period in 2014, representing more than 100 additional deaths.
Criminologists and city officials disagree as to the causes:
- Some say police have deliberately pulled back from poor, black neighbourhoods, a theory that the police disputes.
- Others blame an influx of drugs from pharmacies looted during the April riots.
- A third theory is that a decline in trust between the police and the policed has had deadly consequences: fewer residents talk to the police, which leads to fewer murders being solved, which - by lowering the odds of being caught - results in more murders.
Whatever the reason, the killing continues. Just hours after the 300th murder, police reported a shooting in the city’s Westport neighbourhood, the fourth homicide of the day. The total for the year now stands at 305.

the politicians in washington will apply the MIC logic to fix this problem by hiring half the population as police (nice uniforms, salaries and pensions) and dropping leaflets (saying "free yourselves")and weaponss on the other half so that they can protect themselves against the police.
Way back in the early 90s, the Seattle public school sytem set things up so that the schools that had the lowest-scoring students were automatically given EXTRA MONEY, to help bring them up to standard. This, predictably enough, led to even lower scores... and even more money.
Nationwide, the various levels of US government have been doing the same thing for the last 50 years. It's not stupidity, it's intent.
All of this is the result of programs designed supposedly to help blacks and the poor...but, instead resulted in the destruction of the black family unit....progressives are really condescending elitists and racists at heart. Welfare, the projects, war on drugs, the "Great Society" and many other government policies and programs have created generational dependencies and control.....created what we see today. Generational dependency....trapped by the very programs put in place to help advance them. Any group so used, manipulated, and victimized would end up in a similar state. Of course, that was the purpose. What we see in Baltimore and other progressive utopias like Chicago ....is what we can expect to see for most of us in the future.
It is happening with hispanic communities as well. Looking at the stats you will see the percentage of hispanics using the welfare systems is slightly higher than blacks...

Its funny, Baltimore is building high-end housing near the inter harbor. I have a friend who bought a newly constructed brownstone in sparrows point. He moved from the burbs into the city. Whites are moving back in, atleast in the southern part of city.

Growing animosity toward police/policing has resulted in a dramatic decline in Pro-active policing. Cops have taken the Eric Holder message to relax, back-off; be nonchalant and no longer take the initaitive to look for trouble; be strictly re-active to incidents in progress or to what's already occured. In other words, they'll only do the minimum needed to keep the paycheck. I'd feel the same were I one of them who have been spat upon. By connecting the dots, this entire issue is easily traced back to president Obama's policy of nonchalance. Next to LBJ who put them on welfare, Obama has been the worst enemy blacks have ever had in the Whitehouse.
Let the residents police themselves.

The fact that he started a private company that uses prison slave labor to manufacture items, previously made by US workers outside the prisons, further adds to the bottom line of the prisons.

I agree with you; however based on an an evolutionary lie we have been fed; his viewpoint logical and rational. The Biblical view values all life and takes a lot less faith to believe all things created were created by a Creator than the universe came from nothing and man evolved from apes or the goo to you via the zoo or "by chance"...all illogical views except something created has a creator.
Similar things have happened in other cities as police are "pulling back" because they are damned when they do and damned when they do not, but backing off is the easier alternative. The Mayor hasn't helped that situation & "political correctness" along with race baiting exacerbates the problems as well.
The black culture has changed much since the 60's; really unrecognizable and sadly many other cultures within the US are changing as the trust among people is probably at all time lows. A person's word means nothing and the example comes from the top and filters down; where there is real moral leadership there is a strong nation and where it lacks the society disintegrates. We are dying in much the same way of the Roman Empire.
Social welfare demeans human value as do many other immoral activities. We are in trouble because of forced dependencies based off a totally corrupt system(s). Better to be poor with integrity.
As a former resident of charm city, i can attest to the deline of the inner city of Baltimore during my 60 years of being there.
Also some very nice places to live in the city. Problem is you better make 100k plus to afford them. I read somewhere recently that herion addiction per person is the highest in the nation per person. That has a lot to do with the elavated murder rate. Read a book called the corner. It was also a HBO series about the inner city and the root causes the decay of the town. I ran away to the mountians, glad to gone. Also a hbo series.......the wire...... is proably pretty true to life about the city.
