China Halts Stock Trading For Day After Entire Market Crashes

Tyler Durden's picture

Following the initial halt in CSI-300 Futures at the 5% limit down level, the afternoon session opened to more carnage and amid the worst 'first day of the year' in at least 15 years, Chinese stocks collapsed further to a 7% crash. At 1334 local time, stock trading was halted for the rest of the day across all exchanges (at least two hours early).

As Bloomberg reports,

Chinese stock trading was halted for the rest of the day after the CSI 300 Index plunged more than 7 percent.

Trading of shares and index futures was halted from about 1:34 p.m. local time, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Stocks fell as manufacturing contracted for a fifth straight month and investors anticipated the end of a ban on share sales by major stakeholders.

Under the mechanism which only became effective Monday, a move of 5 percent in the CSI 300 triggers a 15-minute halt for stocks, options and index futures, while a move of 7 percent close the market for the rest of the day. The CSI 300 of companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen fell as much as 7.02 percent before trading was suspended.

Not a happy new year...

Dow futures are now down over 150 points from NYE close, Gold and Treasuries are bid, and offshore Yuan has plunged most since the August devaluation.

I love how "they" can decide what you get to do with "your" money... Oh you feel like selling stocks today because you need money because you lost your job? Yeah, sorry, too many people sold today, markets are closed or "broken" maybe you can sell tomorrow after you've lost your opportunity to "make" money.

Happy New Year!  Boy, is Yellin going to have some 'splaining to do.  The Chinese economy, the engine that was driving the world economy, has now derailed.  Will it now crash and burn like reporter Michael Hastings' Mercedes Benz not so long ago?  Stay tuned for the bogus details from Jim Cramer.  I wonder how many times the reporters on CNBC will say "This is going to get ugly!"

But but but, I had someone claiming that they made 200% on the markets in 2015 tell me that the Chinese central bank devaluations fixed everything....magically.

They have too much freedom there. The gubmint blocks only 80% of their internet. Moar clamping down, capital controls and re-education are obviously needed.

Indeed, but its not the monkey year yet. It starts february 8.

Paper gold? If so, physical is priceless ..

Meaning as Bill Holter and Jim Sinclair have suspected (Ron Paul also) ..

There is NO gold in the vaults at Fort Knox, West Point, and Manhattan .. (that is physical gold in the possession legally by the USG)

It's just been rented out. I'm sure that when the time is due, it will all be returned, down to the last gram. Barring unfortunate ocean liner accidents of course.

Add Jim Willie to that....Jim Rickards too, though he holds it back lest he bites the corporate hand that feeds him.....actually, they all fcking know (eg Maloney, PCR, Celente, Kransler, Hoffman, etc).

When this utlra slow train wreck of all train wrecks derails, the sheeple wont know what monstered them.

The gold well may physically be there. It could also be physically in other vaults offshore. Legally (that is statutorily but not necessarily legal) consigned to foreign banks.

For example. There is for a fact, 32.8 TRiLLION, in cash, in the U.S. Treasury. It is reserved, but not necessarily in full possession of its legal owner (that is via U.S. District Court order). This same owner does possess (in full) 2000 metric tonnes of gold bullion in a Vienna (Austria) bank. Where he is also a legal citizen.

In 1962, the USG was believed to be in the possession of 10.5 thousand metric tonnes of gold. At that time valuing about 15 billion. The aforementioned 2000 is presently valued at 90 billion. See where this is going?

The said owner above, is in the process of actually assisting the Hellenic Republic (Greece) getting back on their feet. This is no bailout. He will do the same for PR in short order.

So, I would overall be less worried about things as most are reporting them. That includes The Voice via Jim Willie, and Holter's quite scary scenario he wrote last December. None of these guys had backdoor access to Reagan's Oval Office. None of these guys gave Gorbachev $10 billion to step down as General Secretary of the USSR. None of these gave the new Russian Federation $50 billion as restart money in 1990. (We all didn't hear much about this, because too many of us were enthralled on CNN re: GHWB's bogus Desert Shield and Desert Storm.)

OzFan's picture

Yeh, its all there....that's why they were able to return Germanys gold.....oh shit, that's right

IMO, the gold vaults are stacked to the roof.  The bankers have much more to gain by gold being contained than being in the market.

A gold backed Yaun would be interesting. I'd probably starve to death but seeing the USSA go down would be worth it.
