Republican Threatens DoJ Budget Over Obama's 'Tyrannical' Gun Control Action

"The next twelve months will be an especially dangerous time for Americans who treasure our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms," warns Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas), chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the Justice Department (DoJ). As The Hill reports, his warning, in a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, follows a threat to block President Obama's executive order on guns by defunding the DoJ.

Culberson went on to add:

"I have formally notified Attorney General Lynch that I will aggressively protect our Second Amendment rights using Congress' power of the purse...

I notified the attorney general that if the Department of Justice attempted to create new restrictions on our Constitutional rights that I would use every tool at my disposal to immediately restrict their access to federal funding.”

As The Hill continues, Culberson appears to be the first Republican to call to block DOJ funding over the executive action on guns.

In future budget agreements, House appropriators could specifically prohibit the Justice Department from enforcing the gun restrictions without defunding the entire agency.

Culberson warned Lynch not to “create new law” in his letter.

“The House Appropriations Committee will not provide resources to your department for the development or implementation of unlawful limitations on the unambiguous Second Amendment rights of Americans,” Culberson wrote.

Culberson’s letter follows harsh words that Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) had for the Obama administration earlier Monday.

He accused Obama of “subverting” Congress by taking executive action on gun control.

“We all are pained by the recent atrocities in our country, but no change the president is reportedly considering would have prevented them,” Ryan said.

As President Obama prepares to address the nation at 1120ET to explain how everyone will be safer if applications for gun use are made more onerous, one can't help but wonder if Culberson would actually follow-through on his threats... and if not what kind of reaction "we, the people" will have.

This is such an incredibly easy problem to solve. Politicians come and go - it's the career bureaucrats who implement these executive orders. So the answer is to target them. The opposition (Trump, whoever) simply says:

1. on Day One, I will rescind all unconstitutional or illegal executive orders
2. I will pardon and compensate any citizen tried, punished, or fined as a result of a rescinded order
3. I will fire any employee of the Executive Branch who participated, delegated or oversaw in the implementation or enforcement of any rescinded order
4. I will cut the budget of the agencies involved by an amount equal to 100x the amounts of any fines or penalties assessed in the enforcement of these orders. The budget saved will be used for victim compensation (see #2)

All you have to do is make the petty tyrant functionaries fearful for their own jobs and pensions. Without willing executioners, the executive orders are just hot air.

As the two vehicles were crossing through the University Drive intersection, someone inside the SUV fired a gun at the sedan, hitting Mutschlechner in the head.

The SUV fled the scene as the sedan crashed into another car and then an electrical pole. Mutschlechner was taken to a local hospital where she was placed on life support.

Another female inside the sedan suffered minor injuries but has been released. Denton police are searching for the SUV involved. Witnesses told them that at least two of the men in the vehicle were previously at a New Year’s Eve party on Crisoforo Drive earlier in the night.

Authorities released an image of a flier for a party they believe the suspects may have attended before the shooting. Police say about 60 people attended the party.

Denton Police say a 20-year-old University of North Texas student has died after being taken off life support following a shooting overnight.

Sara Mutschlechner was driving along North Elm Street around 2 a.m. Friday when a black Toyota or Lexus SUV pulled up next to her. Words were exchanged and someone in the SUV opened fire, police said.

Mutschlechner was shot in the head. She lost control of her car and crashed into a nearby electrical pole.

Witnesses told police there were five or six young black men in the SUV, which drove off. They recognized at least two of them from a big New Year’s Eve party on Crisoforo Drive.

The hunt for the killer of a 19-year-old Mississippi woman who was burned alive last year has resulted in the arrests of 17 suspected gang members, authorities said this week, though none have been directly linked to the woman’s death.

FBI officials announced the arrests Tuesday of suspected members of the Black Gangster Disciples, Vice Lords, and Sipp Mob street gangs, according to The Clarion-Ledger newspaper.

Officials told the paper the investigation, dubbed “Operation Bite Back”, was focused on Panola County, in the northwest of the state, and was a byproduct of the investigation into the death of Jessica Chambers.

On the night of Dec. 6, 2014, Chambers was doused with gasoline and set on fire in her car on a road in Courtland. She was found on the road with burns over most of her body and later died at a hospital in Memphis.

Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby told The Clarion-Ledger authorities have interviewed more than 150 people and sorted through 20,000 phone records in an effort to catch Chambers’ killer. Darby said the information that led to Tuesday’s arrests was gathered as a result of those interviews.

The Clarion-Ledger reported that authorities have had difficulty finding a suspect or suspects in Chambers’ murder due to a lack of street chatter about the crime.

The 17 suspects charged are between 18 and 40 years of age. They are charged with crimes ranging from child endangerment and selling narcotics to possession of stolen firearms and possession of counterfeit currency.

It's pretty hard to believe (and disgusting) that this guy, who is supposed to be a high ranking member of CONgress, would even put this statement in his letter to Obummer and Lynch.  What he should have said is something to the effect that: "You should remember that the President and the Executive Branch of the government have NO POWER to create new laws and that this power is reserved exclusively for the Legislature of the US Government".  This is just another example of how far from the US Constitution all branches of government in the USA have strayed.
