Meanwhile In Chicago, 120 People Shot In First 10 Days Of 2016

Tyler Durden's picture

Even as Obama takes his anti-gun crusade to new highs with every passing week, having recently started dispensing executive orders, the president conveniently continues to ignore the state of affairs in his native Chicago - a city in which guns are banned - yet where the shooting epidemic has never been worse, and is truly emblematic of the "gun problem" America has.

Judging by the most recent developments, Obama will have nothing to say about Chicago gun violence either during tonight's state of the union address, or ever for that matter, because recent developments are downright disastrous.

According to the Chicago Tribune, following the seven people shot to death and 30 more wounded during the latest weekend, the total number of shootings in the windy city has risen to 120 in just over a week into the new year, according to police.

The fatal shootings included two teens killed by a store clerk during a robbery in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, and one of three people shot at a party four blocks from Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home.

As the Tribune tabulates as of Monday morning, at least 19 people have been killed in gun violence and at least 101 more have been wounded. This is three times higher than compared to the same period one year ago: in the first 10 days of 2015, "only" nine people were killed and another 31 wounded.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi released a statement blaming most of the violence on "chronic gang conflicts."

"Every year Chicago Police recover more illegal guns than officers in any other city, and as more and more illegal guns continue to find their way into our neighborhoods."

So the problem is smuggling of illegal guns, got it. What is the proposed solution?

"So it is clear we need stronger state and federal gun laws," Guglielmi said in the statement.

Because those who illegally procure guns will follow gun purchasing laws, and the only thing preventing them from doing so is not enough laws? One can almost see why Chicago's gun problem is getting worse by the day.

The statement continues:

"So far this year, the majority of the gun violence we've seen are a result of chronic gang conflicts driven in part by social media commentary and petty disputes among rival factions. Despite an overall lack of cooperation from gang members, detectives are working aggressively and making optimistic progress in several cases."

At least 2,986 people were shot in Chicago in 2015. Many more will be shot - by illegally obtained weapons in a city with unprecedented gun control - in 2016.

He's been a busy little bee, destroying everything good about America, and leading the charge into moral degradation. A truly fundamental transformation

here is a story about the american mindset. we were in kyoto in japan at the train station. outside the train station there was a bike rack with a hundred bikes parked. an american kid of about twelve years old noticed the bike rack and the first thing that struck him about his observation was that the bikes weren't locked which he exclaimed loudly and enthusiastically to his mom. it was disturbing to me because i couldn't tell if the observation was one a criminal would make or he was so indoctined to give up freedom because of the predatory nature of his home environment that unsecure private popertye was shocking.

americans have no idea how much personal freedom they have to give up to the criminals they have to fear every day.

I was born in suburban Detroit, moved to Jackson County, MI as a youngster (home of Southern Michigan Prison)... One pair of grandparents in the Detroit area, the other pair moved to suburban Chicago. I now live 40 minutes north of Ft Wayne, IN where all this same stuff happens EVERY SINGLE DAY. My lifelong observation- It's absolutely hopeless.

see, we need to focus on the basics.  why does the problem keep growing?  guns?  I think not.  do the math.

While 120 dumb assess  got killed, 332 new fatherless welfare crack babies were born in the same time period.  I can only predict as bad as 2016 will be, 2017 will be worse.

Maybe have a clip on the shirt for your wallet so they don't rip your pants when they rob you? Also, maybe a spot where you could have a preprinted list of sexual turn on/offs of any female accompanying you to make her experience more enjoyable.

I remember seeing 50 gun deaths in one weekend in Chicago. I had to do a double take as I was sure they meant the month or year to date or something else. It was a single weekend.

If 120 are dead, the total violence is probably far larger. Let's put in knives, chains and bats to see the total violence. How about simple beatings?

If only a liberal Democrat were in charge they could change this.

When I moved out of Chiraq in 1993, there were companies that specialized in Kevlar lined back to school clothing. After 22 years, I cannot imagine what it must look like now. Wild horses could not drag me back there; its a shame because it is basically a good city with a lot of positive aspects. There was always a large black population there, but back in the day, they were more respectful and knew their place, now, not so much.

I lived in the city 1965-73, it was bad then too but cops were expected by the mayor to keep the peace. Now either the peace can't be kept or cops are barred from doing it. We never go into town anymore. But bad has spread through the outer 'burbs too and it doesn't seem that much is done.

Obama is going to try to keep alive the legislation to punish gun manufacturers for what people do with the product after purchase.  I'm waiting for lawsuits against airplane makers (planes used in 911 attacks), crockpot manufacturers (Boston Marathon), automobiles (Oklahoma parade crasher), construction equipment makers (nailguns and hammers), and of course cutlery manufacturers.  It's common sense.

That shooting map is obviously racist and should be taken down immediately. Everyone knows whites are just as violent as blacks and browns, so the shootings need to be equally distributed around all of Chicagoland and not so narrowly focused on the west and south sides.

It's related to IQ. Single mothers bringing up children without a father in the family lowers the IQ of the children

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/3110360/Children-who-spend-time-wit...

The trend to single parent families pushes a larger proportion of the population into criminal territory. The region where they're not smart enough to hold down a job.

Increasingly, it seems that IQ isn't as malleable as this article makes it seem.  What we're born with, we are -- If you're dumb as rocks at birth, no Head Start, Common Core or other educational "interventions" will make a difference.

Single parenting is a indicator, not a consequence, of low IQ.  The fact that members of a certain race choose to raise their kids from unknown fathers in a fatherless home isn't surprising, is it?

On the single parenting choice. All it would then take is a couple of generations of neglect and some negative incentives.

Same here, White county, poor as fuck. Abandoned factories everywhere here.  Lots of poor unemployed people with no prospects. Only jobs left are .gov, healthcare, and minimum wage at Lowes.Walmart, McD's et al.

Yet, despite the grinding poverty and hopelessness here, we had one murder last year in this county.

A black from Charlotte, came out here and murded his white ex-girlfriend, a couple of days after she left and came back to stay with her kin here.

Nobody was surprised. Folks here know for the most part, the hazards of mudsharking.

Also, the sound of freedom rings daily around here, and I find that comforting.

Maybe we should send him down to the South or West side, naked and wearing a sandwich board like in Die Hard with a Vengeance that says 'I hate niggers' (to get their attention) and then he can calmly explain to them the error of their ways, and if that does not work, he can cry like a little girl...they are after all his 'peeps'...what could go wrong?

Part of this is the promotion of crime through the deal with the music industry to change RAP music to be thug-based.  The purpose was to fill up the newly privatized prisons.

But some of this is the economy, surely.

http://raprehab.com/facts-about-hip-hop-and-prison-for-profit/

Last year Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), the biggest name in the private prison industry, contacted 48 states offering to buy their prisons. One stipulation of eligibility for the deal was particularly bizarre: “an assurance by the agency partner that the agency has sufficient inmate population to maintain a minimum 90% occupancy rate over the term of the contract.
