Barry tweeted "One last time" before the speech began. It was an allusion to Hamilton, Broadway's minstrel-show travesty of the founding of the Republic whose opening number was first performed for the amusement of the House Negro at the White House.
Hamilton is one third racial provocation (the only important role given to a white American in the show is that of a limp-wristed King George III), one third flattery of New Yorkers and their "fair" city, and one third glorification of Alexander Hamilton and his efforts to set the new Republic firmly on the road to tyranny, founding its first central bank among other acts of treachery. Hamilton was an immigrant from the Caribbean, which excuses everything, apparently. Only natives like Aaron Burr ever do anything bad.
"One Last Time" is a number sung mostly by the George Washington character, about his decision not to run for president a third time (to the horror of Hamilton, who had come to rely on Washington's protection) and quotes at length from the Farewell Address. Barry fancies himself the black George Washington, in other words, in spite of all evidence that he wouldn't get many laughs as a race-comedy parody of a founding father. And, of course, the closest blacks ever got to reverse-engineering the American Republic is Haiti, with Toussaint L'Ouverture a poor copy of Washington.
I suppose I should know better---cultural appropriation is another of those things that is only bad when whites do it. But I do mind. Barack Obama and his ilk didn't build the Republic. White folk did. And they hate the fucking sight of him.
There is a clear opportunity staring you in the face that suggests there are forces in play that transcend racism.
Perhaps only the true racist will play that card all the way down, in spite of it all.
