Democracy is one of those words that has multiple similar, but not exactly the same definitions. Technically a Constitutional Republic is a democracy, though it is not a direct democracy.
What people should be balking at is the fact that we're an oligarchy in a constitutional republic's skin.
The Founding Fathers all resoundingly agreed that democracy was/is the most vile form of government. The fact that disarmament is being discussed at all shows how far we've fallen. PLEASE everybody, watch the video. Knowledge is power!

The United States of America ceased to be a Republic upon passage of the 16th and 17th Amendments.
1) the Athenian democracy limited voting to citizen landowners. Requiring citizenship and ownership means that the responsibilities of citizenship make for a serious electorate, much different than the low IQ morons voting for their gibsmuh today.
2) since the people are still voting for representatives, the US is still a (debased) Constitutional Republic.
Uhm, not exactly. There were three sets of people: Landed Aristocracy. People of the Sea. The New Business class. These divided groups of 3 were grouped together into tribes to represent one from each group. These Demes would vote as a whole, or 1 vote for the group, then chosen by lot to make up the Council of 500. Or that's the best I can remember.

I don't like using the word "need" when it comes to guns. Allowing the debate to be framed in that way, as in "why do you NEED an AR 15" misses the point. "Need" is not relevant. I own one because I fucking want one and because I fucking can. I don't "need" a lot of things, but that doesn't mean I have to justify why I have one to anyone. I don't 'need' a big SUV either, but I have one anyway because I want to and because I can.
I can own guns because I fucking so say and no one else.

Nobody is going to try to take your guns because the task would be impossible.
Instead it will take the form of some combination of weasel end runs, the easiest is probably to go after your ammo.
All of the below were already promoted by Obama at some point.
500% increase in the tax on ammunition.
Legislate smart gun requirements that make the weapon non-functional in all but the hands of a registered owner.
Individually coded bullets registered to the purchaser of the ammunition.
Outlaw or tie restrictions to handgun ammo, the twist being that handguns exist that fire most commercially available rounds.
Outlaw armor piercing rounds, the twist being that under the right conditions some light vests can be pierced by most rounds.
Have federal agencies purchase (with your tax money) such vast quantiies of ammo that you can't find any.
The bigger question is:

It is an interesting topic. I would love to see it debated or brought up in a public way. Blacks are responsible for something like 50% of murders in this country, even though they only account for about 13% of the populaton. Over 90% of those murders committed by blacks are committed by males, so that means that 6% of the population accounts for 50% of the homicides in the US. I find it hard to believe that the left isn't aware of this, although as with the recent cases of white people thinking they will some how be protected from violent black youth just because they work for PBS or the SPLC, maybe they do indeed believe their own bullshit. Plus, talking about this would destroy the narrative, with is why it is verboten.
My theory is since blacks come from an area of the world that was only recently developed they lack frontal lobe impulse control. We should be happy to see the Darwinian process in action. Liberals tell me only idiots believe in god. So only an idiot would not believe in Darwinian selection right? (I.e., 16.4% * 117640 = 19,292.96 which is the 19,293 you are citing.) There seem to be several issues with that data.
First there's "Includes verbal threats of rape and threats of sexual assault" which means that it is not just a measurement of "Rape/sexual assault", but also a measurement of how sensitive someone is in terms of considering something a "threat".
Next up is that, except for the white-on-white numbers, it states that "Estimate is based on 10 or fewer sample cases" which seems to be a fairly small sample size to me (though I would not go so far as to say that it makes the numbers statistically insignificant). Note that this means that the 19,293 number you gave is being extrapolated from this small survey, and is not something like an aggregation of all rape-related police reports in the US.
But even worse, there seems to be something really wrong with the numbers. The small sample size got me curious and I wanted to know exactly how small it was. With numbers this small and the percents given in tenths, it should in general be possible to determine the exact original numbers (i.e., exactly how many rape/rape-threat victims were surveyed, exactly how many said their attacker was white/black/etc.). For example, take the black-on-white statistic of 16.4%. If this data were validly generated (i.e. that % is a factual and accurate statement of % in terms of fraction of those surveyed), it would mean that the unrounded computed %, the number represented by any given column divided by the number surveyed (times 100), was somewhere between 16.35% and 16.45%, and it was then rounded (as needed) to 16.4%. Since we also know that this 16.4% represents "10 or fewer sample cases", we can easily have a bit of code run through every possibility. Doing so provides exactly two potential solutions: 55 victims surveyed with 9 of them indicating the attacker was black, or 61 victims surveyed with 10 of them indicating the attacker was black. However, when you perform the exact same analysis on the 2.8% number, the only solutions for number of victims surveyed are 36, 71 or 72, none of which match the 55 and 61 from the 16.4% number. The 5.9% number only yields solutions of 17, 34, 51, 68, 85 (and larger), which includes no common solution with either the 16.4% number or the 2.8% number. And the 74.9% number, while it is not limited to representing "10 or fewer sample cases", should (if the table is valid) have some solution in common with the others, and instead has a smallest solution of 167. So it would seem they did something rather nonstandard generating this table, and who knows what that was. (My guess is that they are fudging the numbers with made-up formulae to try to make some small number of whites/blacks "truly reflect American demographics" or some such nonsense, and the percentages given are NOT the actual survey percentages but "fantasy adjusted" percentages. If anyone else has a better theory on how they came up with numbers which are all mutually mathematically incompatible I would like to hear it.)
The final thing I would point out is the "Not known or not available" column. This one doesn't necessarily indicate anything's wrong with the data, but it is curious that only 5.9% of the surveyed whites couldn't identify the race of their attacker while for the surveyed blacks it was 25.2%, and that would seem to mean that there is greater uncertainty in the data for the surveyed blacks (i.e., one or more of the other columns is definitely significantly under-reported).
(None of the above should be considered "in defense of aggressive, low-IQ thugs" - it's just that these numbers, like apparently everything the federal government puts out, seem to have some "issues".)
