In Latest Embarrassment For Obama, Iran Releases Footage Of Arrest, Apology Of 10 U.S. Sailors

Tyler Durden's picture

With just hours to go before Obama's last State of the Union address, the US president suffered his latest foreign policy fiasco when around noon local time, Iran arrested 10 US sailors in a boat that has allegedly entered deep into Iranian territorial waters.

Needless to say, there was no mention of this in Obama's address and the scandal was quietly swept under the rug when the 9 young men and 1 woman were released earlier today, and all questions just why the soldiers were released only well after the SOTU's conclusion (were they a hostage bargaining chip in case Obama said something out untoward last night regarding Iran) were soundly ignored.

However, while there may have been some doubt as to Iran's intentions yesterday, all doubt was eliminated moments ago when Iran's state broadcaster just released photos not just of the 10 captured soldiers, which were shown earlier, but of their arrest as well as the seizure of the boat and their weapons.

Here is the just released TV footage, courtesy of Sobhan Hassanvand:

Here is a video of the US Commander apologizing (via Fox):

And here are excerpted photos, showing US sailors being treated as common Somali pirates:

Finally, putting Iran's aggression in context:

How about this:  We have no evidence of why they were there and we probably never will.  But the situation is consistant with them being there, knowing that they weren't supposed to be there and not wanting shit to go hot because it could have much worse consequences than just a few dead sailors on both sides.

Agreed and the USN can create as many incidents as they want, when all that is required for the next RC (regime change) is for the Persians to mishandle a single ONE.  For added yuks, could be the US sailors won't even know their GPS was NSA'd to spoof wrong coordinates.

Haus, I have sailed in these parts, you wouldn't drift for hours before entering in any territorial waters. Also, maritime traffic is dense there, I am certain there are about two dozen dow operators that know excatly what was going on. The Maritime community there stick together like glue, they key in music in VHF channel 16 when there is a foreign warship near their location. Ask any Navcom from any Navy, they will tell you likewise...

Israeli-Neocons control the military and don't like Obama's attitude toward Iran.

Speculation : this was their way of keeping Obama from opening some new Initiative in his SOU speech.

I agree with you mostly, but there seems to be some tension with Israel wrt Iran, judging from the continuous sniping from Crystal, et al.

You would need to explain that if the Israeli-Neocons have full control of Obama.  Some Kayfabe is possible, but what is the point.

I thought that the book coming out about Obama's spending time in bathhouses was part of that warfare.  Clearly the Whitehouse had a lot of help from some professional organizations in hiding everything, and now that control is slipping.

But, all speculation.  Just the kind of thing to mislead one far into the future, as your mind automatically searches for confirmation, and also the only kind of mind and search for explanations we have.

Also take into account that these boats are made for shallow water operations and beaching situations.  What use are they in "international" waters anyway?

This was definitely no "accident."

Surprised you got so many upvotes Hedgeless.  Your quote is verging on the treasonous in the USSA.  More so than, apparently, carrying out 9/11 as a false flag against your own country.  3,000 dead that day, millions and counting in the consequential wars, the country bankrupted, the republic destroyed, but....they were following orders.  Congratulations, you heroic uniformed patriots.

Have to suspect a lot of your upvoters did not actually read the quote.  Just the first line.

Edit: after reading this far I retract my last sentence.  It's a crew of subversives here this morning.

I for one can't understand how people feel no shame that they were duped and confounded by someone, if they're going to use the deceived argument. Instead, how about, damn, I'm an idiot, and I sure am ashamed I was used in such vile ways, I'll sit down now.

Those Navy boats each have a backup motor.  There is almost no way in hell that all four motors became disabled at the exact same time on both boats.  Obama's 'most transparent' administration in history is simply lying through its teeth again.  He will have this incident classified, and we will never learn the truth.

While the bad fuel theory explains how both boats died at the same time (or almost the same time) one died, the other turns around idles next to it when it too dies, it does not explain how they sat there with bad fuel for hours while drifting into Iranian waters while not "phoning home."

That's true. When we lived up in New England we spent a lot of time way off the beach. Fuel and fuel filters are a very big concern and we took steps to make sure it was good (without a military budget). I carried paste and a stick to check it and a hand pump if I ran into that problem. My sport boat had 4 batteries, multiple VHF, gps etc. I nevet got a sat phone but some of my fishing buddies had them.

If it was a fuel problem it would have to be pumped out or something.

Being a ex infantry guy with a 35'ketch I had at least 350' of anchor line, plus another 50 of chain. If calm I suppose I could tie on dock lines, halyayds, sheets and dig up another 300 feet, easy.

So, how deep is it 12 miles off?

Raft the two and pair up the anchor lines.

Even if the anchor scope was near straight down, you could drag the anchor. Giving time.

Why couldn't a chopper cary a small zodiac and burn up a outboard towing those boats offshore, or at least keeping even with the drift.

I guess the Navy brass needed to have a LGBT/Disability group hug, then write planning schedual to see if contracts for private think tank study to review policy actions.
Pathetic.

Am I the only one thinking that history will record the time Kerry met with Putin and Lavrov a few weeks back as the moment that the US was simply imformed that it was no longer in a position to dictate anything and would be allowed a chance to "go quietly" if it wanted?

Kerry went into that meeting saying Assad must go and came out saying Assad could stay and that there was no policy to isolate Russia and a few hours later that Turkey needed to remove its troops from Syria.

At this point the Russians and their proxies (Iran in this case) are subjecting the US to open bitch slapping on a daily basis.

The only other explanation that fits is Paul Craig Roberts one that Obama and Kerry have come to their senses and are trying to back away from a war with Russia but having to fight the neo-cons who are really running the show.

This whole situation feels like a conspiracy theoriests dream come true:  "The whole world is changing dramatically forever in the space of a few months and none of the sheeple know anything about it."

According to wiki the navy only has 6 of these so it has to be pretty special and very fast:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CB90-class_fast_assault_craft

They can also carry "Up to 21 amphibious troops with full equipment" and it appears there is some equipment for a in one photo but nothing that looks like seal or diving stuff.

Perhaps they were picking up seals...

You may want to google the capabilities of the Canadian Patrol Frigate. At 500' it too can stop from full speed ahead, from full spead astern in about 2 and a half ship length. The ship is also close to 5000 tons. A bit of research can find that information, but this information is common knowledge to all Canadian sailors. A 24ft rhib can stop in about 2 and a half boat leangth as well. The claim is very much in line with hull capabilities of other vessels as well.

Edit: corrected the ship lenght to 500'.

"...We will never learn the truth."

My grandfather told me, some 50 years after it happened, that General Patton had ordered his troops NOT to cross the Havel river into Berlin, but to wait and let the Russians take the city.  He literally spoke in a hushed tone, and said that even then, he wasn't supposed to tell anyone about that. It may take another 50 years, but the people who were there (and a whole lot of other "theres") will talk.

Of course, by then, it was well-known history, but it was almost a "deathbed confession" to my grandfather.  He really didn't speak about the war at all until the last few years of his life.  Before that, he always just said that he got into a tank and headed to Germany, and when Hitler heard he was coming, he killed himself.
