In Latest Embarrassment For Obama, Iran Releases Footage Of Arrest, Apology Of 10 U.S. Sailors
With just hours to go before Obama's last State of the Union address, the US president suffered his latest foreign policy fiasco when around noon local time, Iran arrested 10 US sailors in a boat that has allegedly entered deep into Iranian territorial waters.
Needless to say, there was no mention of this in Obama's address and the scandal was quietly swept under the rug when the 9 young men and 1 woman were released earlier today, and all questions just why the soldiers were released only well after the SOTU's conclusion (were they a hostage bargaining chip in case Obama said something out untoward last night regarding Iran) were soundly ignored.
However, while there may have been some doubt as to Iran's intentions yesterday, all doubt was eliminated moments ago when Iran's state broadcaster just released photos not just of the 10 captured soldiers, which were shown earlier, but of their arrest as well as the seizure of the boat and their weapons.

Two boats failing simultaneouly and found 2 kms into Iranian waters. That does not compute at all. And why did they not send out a distress call so that any of the many US ships in the area could easily rescue them?
Effectively admitting that the US vessels had violated Iranian sovereignty, an American official said the vessels had suffered mechanical failure. No other details were provided and no explanation was given as to how both boats could suffer mechanical failure.
The vessels, which were purportedly travelling from Kuwait to Bahrain, were interdicted by the naval division of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards near Farsi Island, the site of a major Iranian naval base. According to the New York Times: “The waters where the boats were sailing are a frequent location for intelligence collection by the United States, Iran and many Gulf countries.”
Both the Obama administration and Pentagon appeared to downplay the incident, saying that Tehran has agreed to return the American sailors forthwith.

You know I've heard there's lots of partying over there. I wonder if these guys decided to have a party between Kuwait and Bahrain and were so drunk they didn't realize party boat was low on fuel. That would explain all the engines failing and allowing themselves to be arrested and not calling for help.

True. The U.S. is less of a threat to the Iranian government than their own people rising up, as they nearly did a few years back. A demonized enemy to fight strengthens the Iranian powers that be, disempowers all opposition. This boat malfunction and the close-range Iranian missile launch may just be mutual back scratching between U.S. and Iranian government leaders.

His entire presidency seems dedicated toward the weakening of the US, and this incident fits in rather nicely toward that end.
