In Latest Embarrassment For Obama, Iran Releases Footage Of Arrest, Apology Of 10 U.S. Sailors
With just hours to go before Obama's last State of the Union address, the US president suffered his latest foreign policy fiasco when around noon local time, Iran arrested 10 US sailors in a boat that has allegedly entered deep into Iranian territorial waters.
Needless to say, there was no mention of this in Obama's address and the scandal was quietly swept under the rug when the 9 young men and 1 woman were released earlier today, and all questions just why the soldiers were released only well after the SOTU's conclusion (were they a hostage bargaining chip in case Obama said something out untoward last night regarding Iran) were soundly ignored.
However, while there may have been some doubt as to Iran's intentions yesterday, all doubt was eliminated moments ago when Iran's state broadcaster just released photos not just of the 10 captured soldiers, which were shown earlier, but of their arrest as well as the seizure of the boat and their weapons.

How is this in any way relatable? They had guns and were still disarmed. I thought the guns were supposed to keep them safe.
The point is THEY HAD TO HAVE BEEN TOLD TO LET THIS HAPPEN.
I think the point is broader. The soldiers had been told the Iranians had authority in this particular situation (true - the waters belong to them). So the soldiers disarmed and prostrated themselves of their own accord. Having guns doesn't matter if people don't choose to use them.
This photo is highly disturbing to witness, but an understandable request by the Iranians who were probably concerned about some kind of foreign military incursion. Catching armed Iranians in our waters, we would demand they disarm and put their hands on their heads just same.
The problem in the U.S. is not just the abrogation of the 2nd Amendment, but that citizens are convinced the government has full authority over them, period, everywhere, at all times and in all regards. So if ordered by government for any reason or no reason, citizens will disarm and prostrate themselves just like in this picture. Even having committed no crime against any other individuals. Even on their own property.
Merely having guns, good ones even, is only half the equation. Properly understanding when they can legitimately be used and being willing to use them is the other half, no less important.

damn, not argueing the right or wrong of the naval vessels but a burst of .50 off their bow would have warned them off, and if they didn't remove themselves from range i would have taken out the center console of it, and any other whaler approaching and called for assistance. if it came down to it, i would have scuttled the boats and hit the water, again after reporting the situation and asking for assistance.
