In Latest Embarrassment For Obama, Iran Releases Footage Of Arrest, Apology Of 10 U.S. Sailors

Tyler Durden's picture

With just hours to go before Obama's last State of the Union address, the US president suffered his latest foreign policy fiasco when around noon local time, Iran arrested 10 US sailors in a boat that has allegedly entered deep into Iranian territorial waters.

Needless to say, there was no mention of this in Obama's address and the scandal was quietly swept under the rug when the 9 young men and 1 woman were released earlier today, and all questions just why the soldiers were released only well after the SOTU's conclusion (were they a hostage bargaining chip in case Obama said something out untoward last night regarding Iran) were soundly ignored.

However, while there may have been some doubt as to Iran's intentions yesterday, all doubt was eliminated moments ago when Iran's state broadcaster just released photos not just of the 10 captured soldiers, which were shown earlier, but of their arrest as well as the seizure of the boat and their weapons.

Here is the just released TV footage, courtesy of Sobhan Hassanvand:

Here is a video of the US Commander apologizing (via Fox):

And here are excerpted photos, showing US sailors being treated as common Somali pirates:

Finally, putting Iran's aggression in context:

The problem is they were in Iranian waters and apparently unable to leave.  They have no grounds to start shooting at Iranians.

They could have fought to the death! Killed the crews of the Iranian boats and used theirs to escape!

No, I don't.  Obviously something else was going on be it bad fuel, GPS distortion, or that they were on an illicit reconnaissance mission.  But none of these factors justify starting to shoot holes in Iranians.

Russian bomber goes down (by Turkish jet) and Putin immediately scrambles half the Russian army, helicopters and jets to look for the downed pilots.

Two U.S. Boats (apparently) disabled (?) and apparently out of communications (?) and no U.S. forces come looking for them?

One thing is certain - these guys are NOT Marines!

There is a lot that doesn't add up here.  How far could the boat have drifted from international waters into iranian waters in the time that the engines ceased working.  Not to mention how could all engines fail simultaneously?  No communication made between the US and Iran that a US vessel had lost maneuverability and was potentially adrift into sovereign water?  I call BS on the "official" story.

By the way, when did the US start purchasing camo versions of Thunder in Paradise from Hulk Hogan?

Perhaps the electrical systems failed on one boat

and the jump-start failed.

Just as probable as quadruple engine failure - volunteer navy and all.

...unless you know you're there for the wrong reasons and you know they have complete control of your ass.  All those sailors had to do was surrender and they knew they'd be safely returned.  The other option is to die for something that has no benefit to you or your family.

Of course, you could stick to your hero prattling, but it isn't flattering.  I'll bet you have big muscles too.

Guns? I think the USA should be extremely grateful that the Iranians are such nice people. If it had been in Turkish waters they could have been hit by missiles after 17 seconds. But then I guess Obama would have found that acceptable?

Everyone's got a theory. So here's mine. With the only female in the boat, I'm sure there was many a moment where there was a tease or two, which distracted the boys from doing their job. And since much of our military gear is made in the People's Republic of China, I'm sure the GPS shit the can and our folks in uniform were caught with their pants down in more ways than one. Humans are never perfect and with the terms of engagement in the New America, where they told our soldiers to fire only when your dead, they were screwed from the moment they sailed out. So no Zionists, or Illuminati, or Bildeberger (on a sesame seed bun), or ancient aliens or Bigfoot. Just a great big fuck up on many levels.

US Navy River-Rats caught by guys in sport fishing boats. ummm... incompetence???? The government claims are obviously a pack of lies; "they lost contact with them", "their GPS didn't work", "the engines failed on both boats at the same time", it was nice of the Iranians to let our government save face, embarrassed and incompetent. I wonder if the NAVY completed their mission of dropping off special forces or not? arrghh...
