Hillary's Lead Disintegrates: She Is Now Doing Worse Than In 2008, As Trump Surges

Tyler Durden's picture

Just when Hillary Clinton thought her political fiascoes would be the worst of her ongoing troubles as she glides through the Democrat primaries, and then takes on Trump sure to find a Warren Buffett-funded victory, suddenly everything appears to have gone wrong in what is most important to the scandal-ridden former Secretary of State and presidential contender: her second - and final - campaign for president.

According to WaPo, if one compares where Clinton is now in the Real Clear Politics polling average, the 2016 picture and the 2008 picture aren't really all that similar; in fact suddenly the trapdoor beneath Hillary appears to have sprung open. "Nationally, she was doing much better in 2008 than she is right now, perhaps in part because the anti-Clinton vote in 2008 was still split between two people -- Barack Obama and John Edwards -- instead of just one. But that recent trend line, a function of two new national polls that were close after a bit of a lull, is not very good news."

Not surprisingly, Clinton is trailing badly in New Hampshire, which is the home turf of her main socialist opponent. In 2008,

What little silver lining exists, is that in Iowa, Hillary is running a little better than she did in 2008, although as seen on the chart below even here her lead has plunged recently. In 2008 it wasn't until the last week that she fell out of the lead. She eventually came in third.

The problem remains the national race, and what's worse, if the 2008 past is prologue and if Hillary's lead in Iowa evaporates and she loses, it may be the end for the former first lady: back then she lost three-quarters of her lead after the caucuses although she did gain some of it back after her win in New Hampshire.

And while these numbers can easily change, one person who is certain to capitalize on Hillary's sudden collapse is Donald Trump, who as we showed recently has become the bookmakers' favorite after trailing badly as recently as September, even as Trump's republican competitors drop like flies on their own, the most recent casualty being Ben Carson whose campaign is all but over following news from CNN that Carson's campaign finance chairman Dean Parker submitted his resignation.

Finally, moments ago the WSJ reported that Donald Trump has opened a double-digit lead over his next-closest Republican rival, less than three weeks before the first votes of the 2016 presidential race are cast, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

A third of Republican primary voters in the nationwide survey said they favored Mr. Trump to be the GOP nominee, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 20% support, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 13% and retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 12%.

In December, Mr. Trump had led the No. 2 candidate, Mr. Cruz, by 5 percentage points. In the new poll, his lead widened to 13 points.

And so what was considered humor by most pundits as recently as last summer is becoming an all too possible reality: president Trump?

I dont think anybody likes Hillary for president accept the media. Most of her supporters are backing her because they believe ( due to media hype ) that she has the best chance of beating a republican.

That facade is now falling away. Lets hope that snake doesnt shed her skin again and stage a media-powered come back. Even a staunch libertarian like me would MUCH rather see socialist-whack-job Bernie in office than that monster.

Agreed. I don't necessarily agree with much of Sanders' agenda, but at least he tries to be honest about what he wants to do.  Honesty counts for a lot in my book, and frankly, it's much easier to have a civil debate with an honest person than a lying partisan hack.

All we get from the Clintons is a non-stop series of half-truths and outright lies - Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea are pathological liars all.  The trouble for the Clintons is that only Bill had enough charisma to make his lies believable.

Hillary will get more votes than Trump, regardless. People are too indoctrinated to "safety", the "adults in the room"(yeah, they think they're adults, this is the main democratic platform - We're Smarter Than Them), will vote for the perceived "lesser evil".

In fact I'm still not sure she isn't paying him to be her foil, stranger things have happened in history. And there has been previous quid pro quo activity between the Clintons and Trump, so...

enjoy your ever-increasing ass-knifings, world.

Yes, but there are true believers everywhere, it can't in itself be a critique.  Trump has his, and likely ditto all of them.  Just like very TV preacher and any other public person.

Because MSM is so filtered, we no longer have any idea about what our fellow citizens think, intentionally, I believe.

I help that : everyone should lie to pollsters about everything.  Random lies.

If Hillary gets in real trouble, watch for Bubba suddenly struck by an aneurysm or infarction, maybe something that puts him into a coma.  Of course Bubba will stage an amazing recovery as soon as the nomination is locked.  He will become conscious from time to time and make deathbed statements which will be written by Sid Blumenthal.

Too bad the only people the conservative corporate mainstream media will put on air are candidates like Trump and Hillary. All we see are corporate butt-sucking, douche bags like these two.

I doubt it matters much which one of these two losers win. A Hillary wins means the progressive can feel all righteous as a woman finally assumes the throne and does as much can-kicking, do-nothing, face-saving bullshit as Obama has done while the country slides down the sewer. A Trump win means all the raging double-digit IQs can have their "Morning in 'Murca" once again as their golden boy pushes down on the accelerator while his big ego and reality TeeVee, spectacle-based mentality drives this bitch off the cliff at full speed.

The fun will lie in watching the supporters of either one of these losers go through their cognitive dissonace distortions as their "winner" drives this bus off the cliff, at either full bore or slow motion. Either way, the show is certain to be entertaining.

She's tanking because Bernie is the only honest candidate on the trail and people are starting to realize that.

You may not agree with his FDR style policiy directives, but the dude is honest and has a long voting record to back him up.  Hillary is a goddamn liar and will say whatever she thinks is necessary to get elected.  People aren't THAT dumb; they can see through her bullshit.  They can see that she played vital roles in the Neocon war effort and is owned by the banks.

Every day, thousands more come to the realization that she's a globalist neocon establishment corporate whore.

That's great.  I signed up for $50 monthly contributions.

Trump is like a FW:FW:FW:FW:FW: email from grandpa.  He means well, but he's kind of a wildcard.  No one owns him, which is a plus, but then again he invited Hillary to his wedding... they probably run in siilar circles and rub the same elbows.  I can't put my finger on what, exactly, is his angle here. He is anti-TPP (at least, he says he is)... which is probably the most important thing going forward as far as our economy is concerned.

He rails on about ISIS though as if he's unaware that they are a CIA proxy army... Hillary definitely is aware of the fact and is on board.  Sickening.

I think Bernie is our best best.  The entire rest of the civilized world is pulling hard for Bernie.  That should tell you something.

Obama was/is CIA family... you can tell by examining his family history in hawaii and indonesia.

At the time, he was a virtual unknown.  Brilliant move by the deep state to float him in undetected. He's been great as far expanding the neocon war effort and keeping wall street out of jail, while expanding surveillance state capabilities.

Bernie is a 25 year veteran Independent member of the Senate... universally loved in his home state, always wins by a landslide.  His voting record is consistent with his current campaign speeches.

Obama was a complete unknown... Bernie is not.

And Trump has no political history that he can be judged by.

Bolton is his foreign policy advisor.  Probably was Hillary's at some point.

We should have learned from Obama that campaign speeches need have nothing to do with actual policies pursued.

You do realize that Scandinavian countries kick our ass in almost every measureable catagory, don't you?  Ecxept $ spent blowing up sand in the desert, incarceration rate, and # of adults who believe in angels.

Plus, you may be shocked to learn this, but our federal govt already operates heavily on socialist principals.  Social Security,Medicare, Medicaid, Subsidies to agri-business, subsidies to oil n gas, subsidies to auto makers... Public education up to grade 12...

Mandated 40 hour work weeks, 2 day weekends, child labor protections, safety regulations, environmental regulations, minimum wage.  These are all socialist policies that you or some member of you family enjoy the benefits of every day.

You could even argue that the military is one giant socialst job program with great benefits.

All bernie wants to do is bring us up to par with other 1st world nations and provide affordable college education (tuition increasing at rates far outpacing inflation) and universal healthcare (same, costs increasing way faster than inflation and wages can keep up).

I don't see the problem in this.  Yes, we will need campaign finance reform, a return to 1933-1983 top marginal tax rates, and cuts to discretionary defense spending to pay for some of that... but so what?

Prove that statement.

Moreover, talk about comparing apples to oranges. I've heard that straw man pulled once too many.

If those Scando countries, some of which, are JUST getting a taste of "diversity" had opened their borders years ago, or had anything close to the race issues the US has had, you'd have never made that asinine statement.

Up until the PC lily livered cunts took over - say - SWEDEN - they were OK. BUT - indigenous population, damn near static, NO defense spending of any sort, it is and always has been, a lousy "comparison".

Come on...post links...show this "measurable" proof.

Household Income: Again, the number of Americans on the dole dwarfs each Scando countries entire population.
