How Did Americans Get So Fat, In Seven Charts
Americans are fat. They are so fat very few would even bother to click on a hyperlink in this article explaining how fat they are, so instead we will present an animated chart showing the severity of the US obesity problem over the past 30 years.

Cartoons aside, here are the facts: today two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese. Half are afflicted with chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure that can often be prevented with better diets, but aren't and as a result debt-funded healthcare costs have exploded, and while this chronic obesity has made pharma companies richer beyond their wildest dreams, it means future US healthcare spending and welfare obligations are unsustainable.
America didn't get this way overnight. The average calories available to the average American increased 25 percent, to more than 2500, between 1970 and 2010, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. There was no extra meal added to the day, instead an evolution in the type of foods Americans eat led to steady growth in calories.
Added fats and grains account for a growing share of total caloric intake. These two categories, which include oils and fats in processed foods and flour in cereals and breads, made up about 37 percent of our diet in 1970. By 2010, they were 46 percent—a larger share of the growing pie. One of the main factor: cost; the increasingly more caloric foods become progressively cheaper and more affordable. The result: more of the lower and middle classes gravitated toward it, leading to the epidemic shown above.
Here, courtesy of Bloomberg, are seven charts showing the detail behind America's troubling obesity trend.
First, this is where America's calories come from.
Cheese is replacing milk.
A lot more fat goes into our foods.
Calories from wheat, rice, and corn have increased. This includes refined grains like white bread that provide calories but are stripped of much of the nutrients in whole grains.
There are some indications that Americans are changing their diets to become healthier. For example, we're swapping red meat for chicken.
And though corn syrup boomed since the 1970s, the total amount of sweeteners we eat has declined. That's partly because Americans are drinking less soda.
These positive changes haven't negated the overall increase in calories on our plates. More than two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese, compared to less than half in the 1970s.
The government's dietary guidelines are simple: "Almost all people in the United States could benefit from shifting choices to better support healthy eating patterns." Right, now if only the government would also subsidize this healthy - which means more expensive - eating. We won't hold our breath: after all the massive pharma lobby would generate far less profits for its clients if US obesity were to sharply decline as a result of someone doing the right thing.
So until something does take place to shock the US out of its fatty momentum, here is Family Guy.

A combination of a moderate low-carb diet (just minimizing sugar and refined flour will go a long way) and intermittent fasting (basically just skipping a meal or two every now and then, to give your metabolism a chance to reset) will do absolute wonders for your health and weight. For most people, nothing more complicated and arduous than that is required. Try it out!

You are on the right track , but a carbohydrate junky CAN NOT miss a meal. Only someone who has eaten some fat and some protein can miss meals , and not even notice.
Gotta drink water. Yes, you get energy from having the proper amount of fluid in the body. Think of it like added friction when you are low on water.
Go into any Golden Corral buffet restaurant and watch the obese shove past people, while pushing their walkers in front of them, to get to the feeding trough and you will understand the government check over work mentality.....
America.....the fattest poor people on the planet.......
If you have a chinese buffet or a Ryans - same.
Here the chinese buffets have strated offering 'mongolian barbque" which is fresh ingredients you pick and a guy cooks them right then on a griddle.
Far better and healthier than the shit on the steam tables, loaded with sugar, MSG, and salt.
What I notice is that when I'm there, I;m practically the only one using that part of the buffet. The herd is loading their plates iwth eggrolls, wontons, and sweet and sour chicken. And fried rice.
If you to Chinese buffet, check out the mongolian bar b que.
Lived in California 20 years ago.....Mongolian bar B Q was the rage then....Harder to find on the east coast, But your correct, I love it...My recomendation.....add pineapple cubes to the mixture.....it makes the perfect taste....
I turn people on to it when I can.....
Hell , it's not rocket science, but it is science. Carbohydrates , especially simple sugars, are bad news; almost toxic. Take the bread, pasta , cakes, biscuits , rice and potatoes out of your diet and you are halfway there.
Add in sufficient good fats , plus a little protein , and you are good to go.
The fat phobia was encouraged by the usual suspects. Good fats do not make you fat. Just the opposite.
But who is interested? I mean, you would have to think before you eat.

I'll disagree just to disagree. Pasta and breads, made with healthy ingredients (non GMO wheats, no sugar from GMO sugar beets, no vegetable oils, etc) can be a staple in ones diet and not make them fat. Moreover, these can be made from non-wheat flours which make them even better food choices. As for potatoes, they are loaded with vitamins and trace minerals if they have been grown correctly and aren't loaded with pesticides. A potato is relatively low in calories too - its the butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, etc. which are put on potatoes which add unnecessary calories. As for good fats, well John Hopkins came out with a study a few years back tying a possible increase in alzheimers to low fat diets especially cutting out fats from animal sources which contain cholesterol of which the "bad cholesterol" LDL seems to help buffer alzheimers more than HDL (personally I'd rather risk heart problems for which there are drugs to control conditions than get alzheimers which is irreversible at this point).
In reality, healthy eating comes down to moderation and balance.
Fair enough. it looks like you missed the point entirely. It is not about counting calories ; it is about the differing effects on the brain and apetite. Fats especially , and also proteins induce satiety ; carbohydrates induce hunger/craving.
Check out the science ; it is quite sound.
i lost 50 pounds over a year. all i did was stop eating sugar, processed food and store bought bread(i make my own with unbleached white flower) all nongmo. in a lot of cases the only way to avoid gmo foods is buying organic food. i don't exercise regularly and i smoke a lot of pot.
the key was /is not eating sugar(they put sugar in canned beans for crissakes). fat doesn't seem to matter but i did get my cholesterol back in the proper ratio when i started eating less beef and more fish because the prices equalized/lb.
a note about the bread. we live in a very humid region. store bought bread starts to mold after three days. my home made bread doesn't mold. i don't know why.
i lost 50 pounds over a year. all i did was stop eating sugar, processed food and store bought bread . . .
More people should change their eating habits like you did. Unfortunately what you did (and are doing) is relatively hard work as compared to the "easy" processed foods - such as store bought white bread (almost pure carbs with very little nutritional value). Laziness and being overweight go hand in hand . . . . . therefore with a LOT of lazy people living in the USA there are also a LOT of fat asses out there.
Personality disorders is what I see in the view I have. Unfulfilled stage of development leads to anxiety and we cannot go forward. I call it the Identity Crisis as it was once called and it is a period when our hormonal fluctuants lead to restlessness and we should apply that energy into a hobby, talent, repetitively as a form of distraction, getting "buried in it" and as consequence, we create a skill or talent which we are defined by and our approach transforms into our persona. Home of a child is the garden and who tends that garden, creates the atmosphere is responsbile. Children of broken homes are abandoned. Their parents go on to start over and the child is surely loved but a remnant of bad judgment. We require validation, unconditional love, a guaranteed healthy routine that is stringently adhered to along with the freedom to explore different avenues, curiously and innovatively, without being interferred with by a sexual fucking predator or parents whose job it is to be an example nowhere in site.
Canola oil is fucking deadly. Have you checked nutrition labels in the grocery store lately? It's damn near ubiquitous.
Solution - don't eat anything which comes in a container with a label. Problem solved.
Most so called 'olive oil' is just canola oil blended with a little olive oil,
And the mfr doesn't even have to declare it.
Lard, butter, and coconut oil.
According to my bro-in-law, who became an expert on olive oil, the Californial olive oil is the only guaranteed pure olive oil. OO from anywhere else is almost guaranteed to be adulterated with unhealthy oils.
And in the past 30 years the black and hispanic population in the USA has exploded. Yolanda and Pablo aren't exactly light on their feet.
I don't think I've seen more than a handful of skinny Mexican kids.
Pretty blatantly racist post pal . . . . pick any ethnic group in the USA and you will find about the same percentage of fat assess. Sig Hile!!
Contrary to what they filled your head with in university, your statement is not true at all.
East Asians are, in general, fairly skinny.
Whites are about 50/50 in good shape versus bad, but some of that has to do with population bottlenecks. Boomers have increasingly only gotten worse while millennials are generally staying in good shape due to a combination of staying informed about health topics and changes in marriage patterns.
Africans and Hispanics are not doing so well. Africans simply do not have the will power, in general, to implement self-control, while Hispanics have not yet adapted to the caloric American diet.
Mind you that Mexico took over the USA for 2nd place in worldwide obesity in 2013. Only Tonga has a higher rate (nearly 90% overweight, 60% obese).
Asians can look skinny but have a higher fat content than a Westerner who is overweight (not obese thought). It's an optical illusion.
He said blacks and hispanics, not niggers and beaners.
I think if you pick any ethnic group in the USA and you will find about the same percentage of racists.
YeeHaw!
<did not downvote you>
While I agree with you, for the overly sensitive hive dwelling whites, metioning anything about another ethnic group that can be even construed as negative is racist, doesn't matter if it's true.
With regard to non-hive whites, anything goes.
They can call us anything they want, make us look like shit on TV and claim everything we do is racist. They blame all ethnic failures on white racism.
Any white who's spent time in a diverse environment knows the score. Whether they will pubically admit it or not.
It's the liberal, insular asshats that are fucking everything up because of their fear of the truth and narcissitic desire to 'fit in' and be 'accepted' by the diversities.
Any time I read or hear the word 'racist' I know the person who said or wrote it is either a diversity trying to get over on me, or hive dwelling brainwashed white.
Out here in the real world we don't call it racism; we call it surivival instinct.
Our white cousins, in DC for example, don't have it. Thus they continue to get beaten, robbed, and murdered on the DC Metro and various bike paths, as well as leaving pubs late at night.
Because 'race is a contruct' and 'all people are the same regardless'.
Total bullshit. A total and complete rejection of all natural laws, evolved behaviors and of course, instincts.
I know them when I see them,. and I avoid them like the plague.
I am going to go out on a limb and say we are fat because our corporate and .gov rulers want us fat, stupid and sick. In our ignorance we go along with the program. The FDA is a sham, it is killing us and they are hardly the only ones.
People poo-poo organic and maybe they should but you have to remember that is what our grandparents called food, except for maybe DDT and some of that early stuff. They were not consuming near the toxic load that we are today and they didn't ask the authorities what portions of what foods they should eat for dinner.
It is an impossibility that the FDA is unaware of our toxic exposure, the fact that mercury, GMO, glyphosate, endocrine distruptors, estrogen mimicking chemicals, extreme and common deficiencies and fluoride have consequences. There is just no flipping way. They know.
I'm going to go out on a different limb and say we are fat because we are lazy fucks with a sweet tooth, and because the corporate goobers at General Foods (and others) figured out that they can sell more food when they sugar it just right. Why look for conspiracies when stupidity and greed will suffice?
Because it doesn't make sense to kill off all of your customers. All of us here have some interest in markets, money, finance or something along those lines and so it's easy for us to see a money motivation for everything. Money isn't the only motivation though, there is power and control also.
My take is that decisions are driven by quarterly results and year-end bonuses. Morality or lack thereof probably plays almost no role.
funny story. when i brought my wife to japan to meet the family(mid 90s) she was 5'7" and weighed 140lb. height weight proportional for her frame. my family marveled at how "big" she was. proportionately, to them she was big. my grandmother was 4'11".
we were cruising harajuku where the original cosplay began. it is a very narrow street. an american couple was walking ahead of us. there was,at least, 600 pounds split pretty evenly between them and both of them were 5'10" anyway. there is a very asian way tokyoites navigate crowded streets. they are aware of everybody around them without looking, making a very smooth flow of people(unlike the chinese). westerners always mess up the flow because they can't tune in to what is happening around them. they are very self centered and oblivious to their surroundings. anyway, this couple took up the entire center of the street, insisting on walking side by side. looking ahead of them you could see the crowd coming towards them begin to make adjustments to their track to go around this couple 30ft ahead of them. the crowd had to literally split to let them through because everyone could tell they weren't going to accommodate anyone.
everyone, i mean everyone, who passed them in the opposite direction turned around to take an extended look at them. the people walking with others commented invarying degrees of astonishment, and everyone was astonished, at the huge size. the poor couple had no idea how much entertainment they provided.
"westerners always mess up the flow because they can't tune in to what is happening around them. they are very self centered and oblivious to their surroundings. anyway, this couple took up the entire center of the street, insisting on walking side by side. looking ahead of them you could see the crowd coming towards them begin to make adjustments to their track to go around this couple 30ft ahead of them. the crowd had to literally split to let them through because everyone could tell they weren't going to accommodate anyone."
This literally describes every group of black females where I went to high school.
Tell me, was this couple you describe also shouting into their cell phones while in speaker mode and on the loudest possible settings so that everyone within 25 meters could hear both ends of the conversation?
You see these assholes at the gym this time of year. Husband and wife walking maybe 2 miles an hour side by side on the narrow track clogging it up for the runners. These blubbery people hopelessly trying to work off the holiday excesses gabbing and being oblivious to those around them trying to get real exercise. They never break a sweat EVER. They clutch their water bottles as if they might perish without it on their long 1.5 mile journey in an environmentally controlled building.
Try to use the weight machines or get a bench before mid-February at rush hour in most gyms. I'll be glad when the fatties give up on their 2016 resolution. I won't have to get up so early to get a decent workout in until next January.
I spend half my year in Chicago. On Saturdays, I run out to the gym before dawn, grab a coffee do errands on the way home, and get off of Michigan Av by noon. Why? The suburbs converge. Between the baby carriages and the hippos, it takes you triple time to get from Oak St to the river so I avoid being out and about on Saturdays past noon unless absolutely necessary.
I cut out gluten and dropped 36 pounds. Gluten is evil, at least for me as it turns out I have celiac disease.
My wife found out similar 5 years ago. I went along sympathetically, and lost 20 lbs of stubborn belly fat. And I no longer had to take PPIs (Prilosec) that I had been taking for 10 years previous for chronic heartburn.
No more purple pills for me since giving it up.
Nowadays when I do eat some pizza or wheat bread, I get heartburn after.
No wheat, no heartburn.
And I'm not 'gluten intolerant' by any scientificmeasure.
Nonetheless my health improved when I gave it up.
Was in Vietnam during the 60's; did not see ONE fat Vietnamese, nada, zip, ZERO....
Mental weakness is the culprit. Elite athletes and warriors often eat whatever they want. They work hard enough to do it. I wish fat asses would turn their self hate into energy to work out. In human history there has never been so much health related information immediately available. If you're fat, it's on you.
Bingo.
Remember this too everyone... your vote counts as 1 right? So does the vote for every other American. So the out of control slob that 40% of us are, that can't control his or her own body, gets to vote how to control the biggest, most successul experiment in human history. Good luck to us all! Cheers.
Candida Albican is a fungus.
It can grow uncontrolled in your digestive system.
This fungus feeds on your body being tired, and being fed lots of sugar, throw in built-up
bad bacteria from constant consumption of animal blood protein,
over prescribed antibiotics, sticky gluten from processed white flour, alcoholic beverages.
It affect every bit of your being from head to toe.
Once you stop this fungus from growing uncontrolled, your body will start to heal.
A powerful intestinal flush with vinegar stops the growth.
Oil of Oregano is more powerful than antibiotics.
Apple Cider Vinegar Raw / Unfiltered with the 'Mother', two times a day.
I believe there's something to the vinegar thing. I discovered a bottle of it in the office fridge. We have a smoking hot juicy georgeous admin that would drink a spoonful in her water and she got me to try it.
It made me feel great! I damn near felt a buzz.
She replaced the bottle recently. I need to get restarted on that.
I also note in southern civil war research Ive done that a honey/vinegar drink was quite popular and refreshing.
A very useful and accurate comment. I hope people that read it will listen to you. Liquid Oil of Oregano with a high carvacrol % is excellent. I read a comment a while back where someone posted what you did and said they used it regularly and hadn't been sick in a long time, not even a cold, and they received almost all down votes. Many people refuse to learn nature frequently provides everything needed for prevention and healing. They have no clue that many pharmaceuticals are chemical recreations often with dangerous side effects of what nature has already provided.
I believe that was me that posted about Oil of Oregano.
I haven't been to a Doctor or a Hospital in 16 years.
I drink a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar each morning,
Take vitamin and mineral supplements daily,
Take Oil of Oregano instead of antibiotics when I feel like I am coming down with something (2 capsules at Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Bedtime) until everything clears up after a day or three,
Take Turmeric capsules instead of Prednisone or other CorticoSteroids when I have a cough that doesn't go away after a day or three (same dosage as Oil of Oregano).
Works for me, and when I pass it onto others and they do likewise, so far.
Also, no HFCS, very little processed flour or sugar.
Use honey for most sweetening,
Eat all the eggs, butter, poultry and swine that I like, but eat red meat sparingly.
Drink as much coffee as I care to.
And drink plenty of water everyday.
Be active, exercise or manual labor 6 days a week.
And never, ever take any pharmaceuticals other than the occasional aspirin.
This obesety desease is spreading to other countries ,but the US and Mexico still have the biggest fat asses. I don't know if a sugar tax can have any impact. If food were truly expensive we would look like we did in the 70s. Hell even the the pets and scavenger wild animals are really fat now.
There's what you eat and then there's just eating too goddamn much. Sit in any restaurant and watch the fatties. They order hors deourves, eat bread/rolls/nacho chips if they are on the table, drink beer/colas/sugared teas a/o/t water, if soup and/or salad with dressing are offered too then why the hell not, then there's a main course where the plate gets licked clean and why not order ome dessert after intaking more calories than most 3d world people eat all week. Oh, and that meal at the restaurant is just during the lunch hour. Just wait until those fatties get home for snack time, then dinner, then more snacking, then bed then waking up to a healthy high fat breakfast. No, Americans don't have bad eating habits, it is the food's fault (just like those mischievous guns that kill people on their own, right?!).
Truth. I'm amazed how often people offer dessert or candy. I'm an adult. I dont need dessert!
It takes a huge amount of food for fat people to 'stay' fat. If fat people ate three squares a day they would actually lose weight. Abandon ye the de desserts and snacks.
Carbs and sugar. Fuck them.
"
How Did Americans Get So Fat, In Seven Charts"They were dumb fucks and listened to government for advice.
After throwing their Food Pyramid out the window I have lost weight and am no longer overweight.
I regularly consume bacon and eggs.
For an old man like me, in poor health, I wasn't going to exercise my way to weight loss. Saw Judge Andrew Napolitano on an interview looking svelt and trim. Interviewer asked him if he was ill (as he had been , er, "portly" before). Said he attributed the weight loss to Factor4, a protein shake product and cutting out wheat. I decided to try it. Down from 215 to 170 after 18 months and I've kept the weight off despite being put on Prednisone for my medical condition. Radical change in what I was eating. Not fun or easy but doable. Blood pressure now in normal ranges. Still eat some things I shouldn't. Have the occasional period of bad eating that takes me up 5 lbs, but then I get it off by fessing up.
Here is just one major factor for increased obesity that impacts many other areas as well. Toxins everywhere and in everything. Everyone is being knowingly and willfully poisoned and transformed by design. Almost everyone in the pyramid all the way to the bottom is responsible or complicit in one way or another unless you withdraw your consent and do everything you can to stop it. You might be complicit either through direct participation, passive acceptance or ignorance of what is happening. These poisons all affect how your body functions. Here is a tiny fraction of resources and information available below.

The endocrine disruptors, among other things, are a part of the globalists goal. One perverted aspect of this is the destruction and transformation of G-d's temple. For example, it will turn boys into girls and girls into boys in a variety of ways. I have recently witnessed an excellent cross generational example of how this is already very visibly affecting younger individuals. These disruptors also can slow down your metabolism significantly which will cause you to gain weight sometimes rapidly, they can cause infertility, cause tumors and cancer and many other things. They are everywhere and in everything. You can not avoid them. They can be stored in all part of your body but especially fat cells. There is seemingly endless material on these topics. Feel free to research it.
Consider eating whole foods, eat nutrient dense foods, eat organic whenever possible, get enough Sun, clean water, exercise regularly, detoxify slowly and regularly and you may improve your chances of survival. And keep as little fat on you as you can and remain healthy. Fat cells retain the highest amounts of toxins. If you don't do these things the global eugenicists participating and those that created the overall plan will be glad to help assist you into an early grave.
Thanks for the links!
Glyphosate, one of the ingredients of Roundup, was also found to be a endocrine disruptor. The WHO classified it as 'probable carcinogenic' just barely not making it to the 'known carcinogenic' list due to industry pressure. The WHO research was conducted peer reviewed by not industry researchers while a German and European Food Safety Authority research that claims that nothing is wrong with Glyphosate was conducted by non disclosed, non peer reviewed research conducted by the industry....
Glyphosate has been shown to be toxic even in low doses. It has shown up in human breast milk and in human urine.
"Ambiguous genitalia are not uncommon, and occur in 1 out of every 4000 newborns." I think they may be Lady Gaga's fans. We are taking a part in an experiment we did not sign up for. We are in an open air laboratory. Mad scientists are doing as they wish. Carl Sagan warned us about this. I hear a train.
