Unless at war, it is not customary to kill the armed forces of other states, and likewise there is no shame in being 'captured' should you find yourself in the territory of another sovereign state.

If Iran kill those marines, US has a legitimate reason to attack Iran. If Iran return those marines, then those marines know Iran Navy's alert level.
Constant concern for haircuts, shoeshines and SJW training but US Navy sailors may need to bone up on the Code of Conduct and pointing your gun at an enemy when he tries to board your vessel. I asked the OIC of my helicopter detachment in 1982 what we would do if we were shot down and captured over Lebanon since I hadn't been to SERE school (POW training) and he told me to just shut the fuck up and do what he or the Chief told me to do and nothing more. I asked what to do if we were beaten or starved and he told me to put up with it as long as I could and if I did talk, that I should tell them great big fat lies. He told me no one would ever blame me if I blabbed because of torture or beatings but they would bring the hammer down if I just started shooting my mouth off. I was a wise ass and quite cynical in those days but I took that POW shit seriously. These kids obviously didn't. Maybe they missed their I-phones and wanted to get back for evening chow. It's all over now so let's spend the money on something worthwhile.
