Caught On Tape: U.S. Test Fires Nuclear ICBM, Warns "We Are Prepared To Use Nuclear Weapons"

Tyler Durden's picture

Less than two years ago, news of Russia test-firing an ICBM just as the east Ukraine civil war was heating up, was sufficient to send the stock market into a brief tailspin. Since then, the launches of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles has become an almost daily occurrence, with the market hardly batting an eyelid.

In fact, it happened just last night at 11:01pm PST at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, where - for the second time this week - the US test-fired its second intercontinental ballistic missile in the past seven days, seeking to demonstrate its nuclear arms capacity at a time of rising strategic tensions with Russia, North Korea, China and the middle east.

The unarmed Minuteman III missile roared out of a silo at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California late at night, raced across the sky at speeds of up to 15,000 mph (24,000 kph) and landed a half hour later in a target area 4,200 miles (6,500 km) away near Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands of the South Pacific.

The entire launch was caught on the following video, which was released by Vandenberg just 4 days after the previous ICBM launch.

What was more disturbing than the actual launch, however, was the rhetoric behind it: instead of passing it off as another routine test, and letting US "adversaries" make up their own mind about what is going on, Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work, who witnessed the launch, said the U.S. tests, conducted at least 15 times since January 2011, send a message to strategic rivals like Russia, China and North Korea that Washington has an effective nuclear arsenal. "That’s exactly why we do this," Work told reporters before the launch.

Of course, the #1 unspoken rule when launching ICBMs is to never explicitly say why you are doing it. By breaking said rule, it marks a much greater escalation in international diplomacy than merely test firing the nuclear-capable ballistic missile.

That, however, was not an issue and Work piled on, with the following stunner

"We and the Russians and the Chinese routinely do test shots to prove that the operational missiles that we have are reliable. And that is a signal ... that we are prepared to use nuclear weapons in defense of our country if necessary."

Well that's good to know.

As Reuters adds, demonstrating the reliability of the nuclear force has taken on additional importance recently because the U.S. arsenal is near the end of its useful life and a spate of scandals in the nuclear force two years ago raised readiness questions.

The Defense Department has poured millions of dollars into improving conditions for troops responsible for staffing and maintaining the nuclear systems. The administration also is putting more focus on upgrading the weapons.

President Barack Obama’s final defense budget unveiled this month calls for a $1.8 billion hike in nuclear arms spending to overhaul the country's aging nuclear bombers, missiles, submarines and other systems.

That said, the irony of the Nobel Peace Prize winner re-escalating the arms race was not lost on Reuters: the nuclear spending boost is an ironic turn for a president who made reducing U.S. dependence on atomic weapons a centerpiece of his agenda during his first years in office.

Obama called for a world eventually free of nuclear arms in a speech in Prague and later reached a new strategic weapons treaty with Russia. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in part based on his stance on reducing atomic arms.  "He was going to de-emphasize the role of nuclear weapons in U.S. national security policy ... but in fact in the last few years he has emphasized new spending," said John Isaacs of the Council for a Livable World, an arms control advocacy group.

Perhaps the Nobel committee should watch the video above and decide if it is not too late to ask for their prize back.

And just like that the nuclear arms race is back.

Critics say the Pentagon's plans are unaffordable and unnecessary because it intends to build a force capable of deploying the 1,550 warheads permitted under the New START treaty... Hans Kristensen, an analyst at the Federation of American Scientists, said the Pentagon's costly "all-of-the-above" effort to rebuild all its nuclear systems was a "train wreck that everybody can see is coming." Kingston Reif of the Arms Control Association, said the plans were "divorced from reality."

The Pentagon could save billions by building a more modest force that would delay the new long-range bomber, cancel the new air launched cruise missile and construct fewer ballistic submarines, arms control advocates said.

Work said the Pentagon understood the financial problem. The department would need $18 billion a year between 2021 and 2035 for its portion of the nuclear modernization, which is coming at the same time as a huge "bow wave" of spending on conventional ships and aircraft, he said.

"If it becomes clear that it’s too expensive, then it’s going to be up to our national leaders to debate" the issue, Work said, something that could take place during the next administration when spending pressures can no longer be ignored.

As a reminder, the last time the U.S. engaged in a nuclear arms race with the USSR, it led to the collapse of the "evil empire." It would be even more ironic that Obama launching nuclear rockets if this time around the tables on the ultimate loser are turned.

In the meantime, just think of all the GDP-boosting "broken windows" that would result from a nuclear war.

"...The thing about the Samson Option, how easy is it to actually execute?..."

It's quite easy, but I think you're misunderstanding the intent of Israel's supposed Sampson Option, Herd.

The Sampson Option has always been a veiled threat against Israel's CONVENTIONALLY-ARMED adversaries since the mid-70's. If Israel was ever at the point of or in imminent danger of being overrun or destroyed in a conventional war by overwhelming forces, Israel promised to launch a nuclear counterstrike for the purpose of annihilating the attacking nation as much as possible. This was not designed to turn the tide of battle or 'save' Israel in such an attack. It was to guarantee destruction of Israel's perceived enemies if Israel itself was able to be successfully attacked and defeated by another nation employing conventional means.

Contrast that with two nuclear-armed adversaries and a doctrine of mutually-assured destruction (MAD): if you attack us with nukes at all, our response will be immediate and overwhelming: a nuclear retaliatory strike with everything we have. We will not wait for the results of your nuclear strike against us to be known, nor will we plan on anything beyond a massive retaliatory strike - there will be no follow-on strikes or further military action because the assumption is both belligerent countries will cease to exist. As insane as it sounds, that MAD doctrine (informal but clearly understood by both sides) has kept the world free from nuclear wars for the last fifty years.

Israel's implied Sampson Option is a unilateral first-strike decision on their part guaranteeing first use whenever Israel feels sufficiently threatened, i.e., whenever they want to use them against a conventionally-armed attackers. it's an inherently destabilizing and promotes nuclear proliferation (although they would deny this) because it forces their perceived enemies to desire nuclear arsenals of their own. Rather than disarm or pledge no first-use, Israel has insisted on being nuclear-armed at any cost, and keeping their 'enemies', i.e., Libya, Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Iran from obtaining any nuclear arms at any cost. That still leaves Israel vulnerable to a massed conventional attack and defeat by the armies of their much larger neighbors. The Sampson Option wasn't a secret - Israel uses it to bully its neighbors and as an effective extortion tool for getting its way with the little dual-citizen, Israeli-firster bitches in the U.S. Congress (and other assorted ZATO stooge countries in Europe).

While the doctrine technically still exists - mostly among the psychopathic Likudniks running Israel - it is mostly irrelevant today. You may have noted the recent fates of Israel's potential Sampson Option target nations: Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Syria and (eventually) Iran. Israel wasn't relying on the Sampson Option this whole time - American taxpayers and their sons' and daughters' lives were a far more easy, effective and practical solution to Israel's troublesome neighbors. The Team Chaos option for destabilizing and breaking up Israel's neighbors has been the preferred control tool for the last few decades.

The only case Israel's Sampson Option would be somewhat difficult to execute and futile is in the case of a massive preemptive nuclear strike against Israel. The Sampson Option was not designed to deter that threat whatsoever, so the capability or willingness of individual Israeli nuke commanders to execute such a retaliatory attack (or it's deterrent value prior to such an attack) are immaterial. That's not what it was designed for, and any deterrance for a large, premptive nuclear strike has never been a particular security concern of Israel. That deterrance 'job' falls to its reliable microcephalic thug and obedient bitch - the good 'ol U.S. of A.

Global Observer's picture

When Israel is finally reined in, and it wil be, that will come through UNSC imposed economic sanctions, not military means. Of course, the USA will need to be reined in before that and it will come through a collapse of the US economy. Once the US is economically destroyed and practically at the mercy of the rest of the world to maintain a semblance of order, its foreign policy decisions will not be completely up to it, though it will still have its veto at the UNSC. An economic collapse caused by the implosion of derivates piled by irresponsible banks will leave few sysmpathisers for Jews or Israel. The decision to withdraw support for Israel will not be questioned if it comes when a Jew is the President of the US.

Watch out for an economic collapse before the eletions, Sanders winning by a landslide and the US not vetoing a UNSC resolution establishing a Palestinian state in the territories as of 1948 and demanding Israel withdraw from the territories it occupied since 1948. Israel, of course, won't comply and that will be followed by another UNSC resolution imposing economic sanctions on Israel until it withdraws from the Palestinian territories. The Israeli economy will collapse and Jews from Israel will start migrating out in large numbers. Eventually with their backs to the wall, Jews remaining in Israel will sue for peace with Palestinians, agree to a unified federated state in all of historic Palestine (minus Jordan) with a constitutional democracy. It may decade to happen after the imposition of the sanctions, but will happen.

Why have we never seen footage of any ICBM hitting its test target ever...

Technically it would only require filming crews somewhere over the Marshall Islands.

This applies to every nuclear country with missiles...

Has anybody seen footage of a missile striking its test target?

I just found some footage on YouTube that came from LiveLeak (the only one showing test target strike).

We never receive them officially from the MSM.

Why have we never seen footage of any ICBM hitting its test target ever...

There are several videos on youtube.

At least one shows the dirt impact (no explosion) on Kwajalein Atoll from the inert warhead smacking the ground during one of these routine tests. Look at the 6 minute mark here:

Some show the contrails of MIRV warheads streaking down towards the ground. Russian version:

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find.

peddling-fiction's picture

The Russian strikes are in the same video I found online. They do have contrails but also could be intermediate range missiles due to their shallow angle of entry.

The American strikes on your video look like artillery shells hitting their targets (some explode, and some are duds). Are they from your college days?

Doesn´t the US have footage from this century to show us?

Its kind of strange why they are not shown as part of the PR package.

You would think that knowing that they hit their mark should scare people some more.

Lore's picture

YAWN. These test launches are boring. So they can still get it up?  Big deal.  If they REALLY want to impress anyone, they'll MANAGE A BUDGET.

Better yet, wrestle down your militroids and control freaks, shut down their foreign adventurism, take back your economy, stop the deficits and eliminate the debt!  There's a world worth fighting for.

Left unchecked, those psychopaths are going to bring down a world of hurt on YOUR heads, and God knows it will have been a long time coming.

Paveway IV's picture

"...Why have we never seen footage of any ICBM hitting its test target ever..."

Because the Minuteman III's Mk-21 Reentry Vehicle (the six-hundred-pound black cone-shaped thing) or a Trident II's Mk-5 RV is not an iron bomb with a contact fuze. It is not designed to hit specific objects (targets). It's a thermonuclear fission-fusion weapon. Close is close enough with 450kt. In a sub's Trident II SLBM, there were twelve RV Mk5s strapped to the RV Bus and were typically launched many miles apart. Under certain conditions, you can see streaks in the upper atmosphere from the RV's trajectory. They don't glow white on their way to the ground - that's only during tests for tracking purposes or in Hollywood. The military tries to make the things hard to see (optically or electronically) in real life because then the intended victims would try to shoot them down. And that would just ruin the whole annihilation thing.

Here's the fuzing options on an MX/MMIII Mk-21 with a W87 warhead:

Primary fuze is inertial (i.e. dead reckoning using guidance information)

Secondary dual mode S-band radar fuze (4 antennas) for airburst and surface/proximity fuzing

Fuzing options:

  • High altitude airburst
  • Medium altitude airburst
  • Low altitude airburst
  • Surface/proximity burst
  • Surface/contact burst

So for one very specific and uncommon fuzing option (surface/contact burst), you could produce a PR video of black cone-shaped RV traveling at Mach 2 or so with an inert warhead striking a 'target' building or the ground, or at least striking within a few dozen meters or so and throwing up some dirt. All in all, about as exciting and convincing as your video shows.

And since it was the Soviet Union or China's job to protect their country against U.S. ICBMs, they would have been particularly interested in ANY details of the post-boost stage, RV bus separation and RV reentry sequences. So, probably not a lot of interest in the U.S. military for revealing top secrets of our strategic nuclear program for mere peon PR value. They didn't care if you and I thought they were accurate enough, they only cared if the Soviets and Chinese were convinced. Apparently, they were.

To demonstrate the accuracy of a precision low-yield nuclear weapon, you would only have to watch the many videos of a cruise missile going through the front doors of a bunker. For that exact reason, the U.S. Navy no longer maintains ANY non-strategic, i.e., tactical nuclear weapons. It only maintains Tridents with W88s - 450kt strategic nuclear weapons not intended for pinpoint accuracy nor even necessarily for surface targets/contact burst. The U.S. Army is not in the nuke biz at all. The USAF has air-launched nuclear-tipped cruise missiles for the B-52s and kind of precision-guided air-dropped B61s primarily for the B-2 fleet. Plenty of videos of either delivery type, just not with a live nuke warhead. The other 500 strategic warheads in the U.S. stockpile are strapped to Minuteman IIIs and would only produce the black streak pushing around a bunch of dirt, provided the military cared to share that highly-classified information on YouTube. I don't think you're ever going to see video of any of their secret nuclear bunker-buster penetrators (because it's a secret and they're for Israel to use on Iran).

SMG ~  since I'm 100% sure that you DISAGREE that these 'Globalist Elites' that you nominate are, in fact,  jews... I'd be happy to hear from you just WHOM they are... (notwithstanding your JUNK)

U know... Like, list a panel of the TOP 20 'GLOBALISTS' that you nominate, & we'll see how it works out... (IOW ~ let's see how many are jews... If it's MORE than 2%, we potentially have a problem that not many, INCLUDING YOURSELF, have been willing to admit to)...

Instead, if your TOP 20 list has more than 10% (jews), then, there really starts to be a problem (which basically means that you're gonna have to try and give me a GLOBALIST list that has < than 3... Good luck with that!

On a more positive note SMG... If you EVER get kicked off of ZH because you dared to criticize 'The Luciferian Anti-Defamation Society' (which will NEVER happen), but just in case...

The ZH username 'NEBULATOR', I believe, still exists

Essentially The Globalists believe they come from a bloodlines which started from a union of Eve and Lucifer.  (Not saying thats true, just saying what they believe)  This belief that the rest of humanity is a product of Adam and Eve is the basis for their view they are superior to we "useless eaters".

Actually if the Gloablist Cabal was Jewish why would they say things like this:

"The Third World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences caused by the "agentur" of the "Illuminati" between the political Zionists and the leaders of Islamic World. The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism (the State of Israel) mutually destroy each other. Meanwhile the other nations, once more divided on this issue will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion…We shall unleash the Nihilists and the atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time." 4  -Albert Pike

Notice the quote:

"The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism (the State of Israel) mutually destroy each other. "

So if as you purport the Globalists were Jewish,  why would they set in motion a plan to destroy themselves?

Clearly you can see you are the one who is wrong, and I wish you and you family well in the coming difficult times.

Lucifer (morning star, or light-bringer) = Jesus.

Bible tells me so:

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Isaiah 14:12 (KJV)

"Lucifer" comes from the Latin Vulgate, but the original Hebrew reads something more like this, as most translations translate it:

How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! ----Isaiah 14:12 (NIV)

Look who is the morning star here:

I Jesus ... the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16 (KJV)

Lucifer means "bearer of light." Jesus admits being a light bringer himself.

I am the light of the world. John 8:12

Logically, Lucifer = morning star = light bearer = Jesus.

As for this

"So if as you purport the Globalists were Jewish,  why would they set in motion a plan to destroy themselves?"

well, I can ask the same question...

SINCE... & there should be zero doubt about this... THE FEDERAL RESERVE was constructed by jewish banking families... & since it was a fiat debt money system subject to exponential debt expansion by way of:

- world wars

- taxation

- social programs

- corrupt complicit banking

- hijacking a political system by way of bribery (& sometimes MURDER)

- relentless media misdirection & propaganda

- banking system leverage

& knowing that that was a system that was pre-designed to #FAIL... (notwithstanding the subsequent MOORE's LAW application of technology that actually expedited the process, & which may, in an IRONIC TWIST OF FATE, of which, my comments here are representative, prove to be the undoing)

Why INDEED "would they set in motion a plan to destroy themselves?"

You want a top 20 list? How about starting with these books:

John Keel - 'The Mothman Prophecies"; 'The Eighth Tower'
William Bramley - 'The Gods of Eden'
Karla Turner - 'Taken'; 'The Fringe'
Laura Knight Jadzcyck - 'The Secret History of the World'; 'Comets and the Horns of Moses'; 'Amazing Grace'; others
David Icke - 'And the Truth Shall Set You Free'; others
Andrew Lobaczewski - 'Political Ponerology'

Other authors: Richard Dolan; John Lamb Lash; Cameron Day; Lisa Renee; Jaques Valley; Jim Marrs

Don't diss on this shit just because it stinks of 'conspiracy' without at least checking out some of the best authors on these topics. OF the above books, the ones by Bramley, Icke, and Knight-Jadzyck are particularly good because they are literally one-quarter references and footnotes.

Mark my words on this: before this year is out, you WILL see weirdness happen that you never would have believed previously. When this shit begins, you may want to look some of those books up so you can rethink things.

And don't forget this: the term 'conspiracy theorist' was coined by the FBI/CIA in 1967, to describe anyone attacking the JFK assassination official line. This kind of ridicule was purposefully applied to the UFO and alien theories by authorities for much the same reasons. In fact, in ancient days, entire groups of people were exterminated when they tried to present the truth (gnostic Christians), or their orders were infiltrated and subsumed to darker purposes (The Knights Templar; the Catholic church). Do some reading before you continue bashing people on something you deign to not even try to understand.

As far as the 'bloodline' thing goes, it goes back to the Sumerians, and their stories of aliens breeding with humans. They created a race of special halfbreeds, who down through the ages ran things, and still do today.

It's entirely feasible that the aliens are still working with their 'progeny' to keep them in charge. That would be a natural tendency for most species.

Would people learn to worship this 'bloodline'? Sure, especially if it offered access to a 'special' lifestyle. Is 'Lucifer' another name for the alien in charge? Might be.

Will any of it matter if we nuke each other? Or will it matter when all the nuclear reactors blow up like Fukushima, as they age and fail?

&/or, do you go to the same barber, Ron Paxton, as G.A.T. & Janet Yellen?

Why don´t we call the "aliens" what they really are?

"Aliens" are really fallen angels. They are deceivers and are doing a great job so far.

Lets be part of the solution by warning and not confusing folks.

"useless eaters" are needed to eat all the industrial waste that is now packaged as food. Hydrogenation made rancid fish oil, and rotting cotton seed waste into margarine.  Millions of hungry mouths are the solution to pollution.

we need to demonstrate our authority and proactively defend our interests overseas. We have nukes for situations like this - and we need to be ready to use them.

Ya, cuz we're better than all them over there.  We're Americans.  Privileged, arrogant, and dammit, we're worth it!

Now where's my EBT card... ..... .....  don't tells me I gotsa make meself a sammich.

Mutual deterrence will lead in our inevitable annihilation.

Just a pissing contest of extinction level event proportions.

If we wanted to truly lead, then we'd work with the nuclear nations to ban all nuclear weapons and create a treaty that all nations will go to war with nations who seek them.  It is the ultimate hypocrisy that nations have agreed to ban the use of chemical and biological weapons yet we have nukes pointed at each other ready to hit their targets inside of ten minutes.

the nuclear nations to ban all nuclear weapons

That policy is already written into The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (commonly known as the Non-Proliferation Treaty or NPT.) Fat lot of good it's done.

And you think that anyone honors  the bateriological warfare treaties?

I am an unwitting walking, living, and breathing bateriological weapons laboratory.

Thank you Operation Paperclip and the scientists at Plum Island.

Now I need some Deer Ticks to raise, so that I can infest the private school grounds with the infected ticks from my blood.

That will be sure to spread this infection to the deserving.

Who needs a gun?

The Geneva Convention Resolution banning the USE of CBW did NOT ban the development of countermeasures, hence the continued, entirely "legal", funding of CBW "Defence" programmes (e.g. Ft Detrick / Porton Down and others).

I spent a few "very interesting" months in the 1980's working for the UK MOD in a place called Nancekuke, down in Cornwall. The technology we had then, there, was similar in performance and standards to what we have in the "civilian world" now, in 2016, and believe me the VERY secretive facility was "biult to withstand WW3", with thick concrete / steel blast doors everywhere . . . . .

Britain ALONE CERTAINLY had the capability, and in-depth knowledge, to eliminate all life on this planet, via just that one "Production Facility", as did the USA, France, and of course Russia - do not be misled by the "Western Propaganda" press pictures of obsolete Russian kit dumped in storage facilities - their equipment and standards were just as advanced as ours were - possibly more advanced.

This is another reason why "Prepping" to survive WW3 is actually futile. Loss of containment of the "goodies" we were playing with even decades ago would have added a whole new outlook on "end of life as we know it" - "everyone" was not just targeting humans, we were also targeting livestock, and arable production; one of the key "objectives" was to harden pathogens (which we did, very successfully), and develop novel / "unconventional" but effective dispersal strategies, along with selection of "product" to exhibit fast but durable mutation in the wild (to allow rapid adaptation / combat countermeasures).

That's as far as I can disclose, since I'm still bound by "The Act", and I'd prefer not to have visits from certain people. Suffice to say I could recount pages on what we did / knew / planned in the 1980's, and I have no doubt that the technology has advanced VERY considerably since then . . . . . .

If you play long  enough with Pandora, eventually the box will be opened... most likely by accident.  What does that say about us as a species?

Tall Tom's picture

i know that we are self destructive as a species.

I know that we plan out living Hells for those who oppose us.

I know that from experience.

Our capabilities BEFORE the arrival of Genetic Engineering were pretty incredible even by current standards. I still remember attending a conference (the first European Conference on Biotechnology), where the papers covered just a handful of restriction enzymes, and EcoR1 was still very "latest technology".

We (read - "everyone else") had already sequenced the pathogenicity determinants of most of our product; a lot of the researchers (Nancekuke and MRE Porton) all came from just the one School of Microbiology, headed by one Harry Smith FRS (now Sir Harry Smith I believe) who seemed very good at selecting Ph.D. and Post Doc. personnel with the "right aptitude" for the job - people such as Charles Penn (now Research Director at PHLS Porton) . . . . .

Interesting time, interesting people, NOT the sort of job you'd want as a career though . . . . . .

Fukushima is an Extinction Level Event. A slow one, but nobody said an ELE could only be quick. As more NPP's explode, it will only accelerate what Fukushima has started. I know few keep up with this, but the universal use of MOX in all the older reactors - like running nitro in your great-grandfather's Model T - will destroy them all, and quickly.

In the US, they have continuously raised the acceptable limits of radiation contamination, so nothing has to be done about the Fukushima fallout. Which means, terrorists could explode a number of 'dirty bombs' throughout the US, and nothing would have to be done about it, because the radiation levels would still fall short of exceeding the new nuclear exposure safety standards.

Nuclear war will accelerate this entire process, but as giving away QE to the public will only bring forward normal consumption, leading to cash flow problems later, nuclear war will only bring forward the death and suffering that will be occurring soon anyway.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em, and hug your kids. The radiation kills the kids first.

Good luck to all of us.

Tall Tom's picture

The Radiation kills phytoplankton first.

Of course it is the Oceans that generates 70% the World's breathable Oxygen.

And the North Pacific Current brings those Phytoplankton into the Dead Zone off of the eastern coast of Japan, like a conveyor belt.

You know, the eastern coast of Japan where Fukushima is still dumping all of that poison?

The phytoplankton receive a lethal dose, do not replicate, and thus population depletion is the result.

Dead phytoplankton do not photosynthesize Oxygen. And depleted populations of phytoplankton produce depleted volumes of Oxygen.

That is just common sense.

There is already empirical evidence of Oxygen depletion in the North Pacific Ocean waters.

As Oxygen is depleted the acidity of the Ocean Waters increase due to an abundance of H+ ions.

The Cacium Carbonate based exoskeleton life forms as Starfish and shellfish are dying off in unprecedented numbers in the Pacific Northwest United States. The waters are deplete of phytoplankton.

It will not be the radiation that kills you off.

It will be the slow suffocation which you experience as the result of dead oceans as the Oxygen is not transpired to the atmosphere due to its depletion in the Ocean waters.

The end result will be an Extinction Level Event although you shall not perish due to Radiation Poisoning..

Slow suffocation will be the fate of land dwelling Oxygen breathers.

Parrotile's picture

It's not just the phytoplankton, but also all the other surface (and immediately subsurface) microbial population that dies off. Decay (oxidative decay) leads to an increase in biological oxygen demand, and so local anoxia. Less diffusion into the deeper layers means doom for the oxygen "breathers" further down the water column, and also leads to a further increase in BOD.

Instead of the oceans acting as an oxygen source, diffusion to offset the BOD effects will mean the oceans act as an oxygen sink, so atmospheric depletion may be somewhat more rapid. The Wastewater Industry has tons of modelling data supporting this, since efficient aerobiosis is an important component of wastewater management (your "Tricking Bed Filters").

Once marine O2 tensions drop low enough, anaerobiosis will lead to methanogenesis - just what the "Global Warming" people want (since methane is an order of magnitude more "efficient" as a greenhouse gas than CO2)

So, there is the weak possibility of a MAJOR exchange leading (in due course) to an anaerobic (by our standards), "hot" world - a little like Venus is now. Probably very low-probability since other control mechanisms may limit this process, but an interesting possibility nevertheless . . .

Would you please explain what you mean by "just what the "Global Warming" people want"?

Anoxic oceans, also known as Canfield Oceans, is covered in Peter Ward's book Under A Green Sky.

Fast forward to minute 46 to see some action. A bit slow for American standards.

The scene with a lady pissing down her legs when the bomb hits, is right over the top.

Fear mongering at its best.
