In Germany, The Far-Right Promises To Chase Merkel "To Hell" After Stunning Victories

Tyler Durden's picture

On Sunday, Angela Merkel suffered a bitter defeat at the ballot box in state elections that effectively served as a referendum on Berlin’s open-door migrant policy.

Exit polls showed support for the Chancellor’s CDU falling in Baden-Wuerttemberg, in Saxony-Anhalt, and in Rhineland-Palatinate versus 2011. Those results were validated as CDU lost ground versus the last election across the board.

The big winner on the day: Alternative for Germany or, AfD. The anti-immigration, nationalists didn’t manage to win the most votes in any of the three states in contention, but their strong showing - especially in Saxony-Anhalt, where they managed to win 24.2% of the vote represented a resounding rebuke of Germany’s official stance on Mid-East asylum seekers.

"The CDU finished several percentage points behind the popular incumbents’ parties in both states and dropped 12 percentage points to a record-low result in Baden-Wuerttemberg, with 27 percent support," The Washington post writes. "Its performance in Rhineland-Palatinate, with 31.8 percent, was also a record low."

So far, the AfD has won seats in half of Germany's regional assemblies and that, Blooomberg says, "shows that Germany is no longer immune to the allure of right-wing populism."

AfD leader Frauke Petry doesn't necessarily agree with that assessment. "We are seeing above all in these elections that voters are turning away in large numbers from the big established parties and voting for our party,” she said, adding that "they expect us finally to be the opposition that there hasn’t been in the German parliament and some state parliaments." Here's a tweet from Petry:

“We have fundamental problems in Germany that led to this outcome,” she insisted on ARD television. “Now we want to force the other parties into a substantive debate.”

For her part, Merkel attempted to address the obvious implications of the outcome with regard to public sentiment without fully admitting that perhaps her approach will need to be reimagined before the right becomes further ascendant. "The dominant issue was the refugee crisis and refugee policy,” the Chancellor told reporters in Berlin. "Voters determined that there has been no satisfying resolution."

Actually that's not true. Voters seem to have determined that her particular resoution has not been satisfying.

For his part, Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel is concerned about the rise of AfD, much as the American political establishment is concerned about Trump. “The democratic center in our country has not become stronger, but smaller, and I think we must all take that seriously,” he said on Sunday.

"The rise of the AfD in Germany mirrors growing support for populist politicians such as National Front leader Marine Le Pen in France and Trump, who has called for banning Muslims from emigrating to the U.S.," Bloomberg writes, echoing Gabriel's sentiments in a piece called "Germans Turn To Trump-Style Politics In Challenge To Merkel". "Like Trump," they continue, "Petry regularly gets the media to hang on her every word a tongue-lashing [and] has urged Germans to have three children to reduce the need for immigration and suggested German policy is driven by Holocaust guilt."

Of course the success of AfD isn't the only sign that the right-wing is resurgent. There's also PEGIDA, whose rallies we have covered extensively and whose former leader posted a picture of himself on Facebook dressed as Hitler.

Just last week, the group marched in Leipzig to celebrate AfD's success. Lutz Bachmann - and this would be the very same Lutz Bachmann who appeared on Facebook as The Führer last year - spoke at the rally and suggested he would try to ally with AfD. Perhaps seeking to retain some semblance of political correctness, Petry respectfully refused. Here's a bit more color from The Guardian on Sunday's historic ballots:

"Germany’s rightwing upstarts appeared to have benefited from an increased voter turnout across the country. In all three states, the AfD gained most of its votes from people who had not voted before, rather than disillusioned CDU voters. In Saxony-Anhalt, as many as 40% of AfD voters were previously non-voters, while 56% of AfD voters in the state said they had opted for the party because of the refugee crisis, according to one poll.

Andre Poggenburg, the AfD’s lead candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, said: “We have achieved something very important: we have mobilised many non-voters to take part in the election, something the established parties have failed to do.” The party’s deputy leader, Alexander Gauland, supporters at a rally on Sunday night that his party would “chase the old parties to hell”.

Merkel doesn't agree. Last week, she called AfD a "temporary phenomenon."

Trust us, Petry will only prove "temporary" to the extent that Merkel's refugee policy proves transitory as well.

German population problem

Hitler had a bunch of programs that made it economically advantageous to have multiple children.

Germany could use that approach now.

So could the US.

I wish it was a bigger deal, but how is 15% of the vote going to make much of a difference? I guess they got 24% in Saxony-Anhalt, but that's still only 2nd.

Ellen Brown discusses Hillary's email:

Of the 3,000 emails released from Hillary Clinton's private email server in late December 2015, about a third were from her close confidante Sidney Blumenthal, the attorney who defended her husband in the Monica Lewinsky case. One of these emails, dated April 2, 2011, reads in part:

"Qaddafi's government holds 143 tons of gold, and a similar amount in silver . . . . This gold was accumulated prior to the current rebellion and was intended to be used to establish a pan-African currency based on the Libyan golden Dinar. This plan was designed to provide the Francophone African Countries with an alternative to the French franc (CFA)."

Thank you, Germany.

I hope AfD officals have tight security.

Political assassination is very much a part of the historic German political "dialog".

Funny how everything nationalistic is immediately labeled as "far right" and paralells drawn to Hitler and the NSDAP. Well folks, NSDAP (or the Nazi party for those who dont know) was a NATIONALISTIC SOCIALIST WORKERS party. A LEFTIST party.

One of the most funny things is when you draw paralells between NSDAP and the Norwegian Workers Party (Arbeiderpartiet). They had pretty much the same slogans.

Let's face it. Freaky Frauke "pretty" Petry is way sexier than Merkel jerkell.

The media never uses the term "far left". from where they stand you can't go any further left than where they are.

I don't know much about Germany, but how are these people 'Far Right'?

The 1930s regime was a banked-backed phenomenon. Without bank backing there cannot and will not ever be such a thing.

Any party or organization which emphasis national self interest and its own indigenous people are labeled as "far right" and "dangerous extremists". The reality here is that the Tribe controls the media. And the Tribes agenda is to fracture western societies, to polarize the political landscape where their pro-Zionist assholes are labeled as the "good guys" while everyone who tries to fight for their own peoples rights and national interest are labeled as "right wing" and associated with Hitler/nazis.

If you have not seen it already, check YouTube for Barbara Specter Lerner and the interview made with mer regarding mass immigration to Europe. The people are fucking evil.

Trogdor's picture

The people are fucking evil.

Yeah - you'll notice that the Tribe has representatives at the fore in just about every Western country pushing to bring in as many culture-destroying cretins as possible - while making sure through policiy that not only is Israhell not "multi-kulti" but the few arabs that are there are murdered as quickly as possible.  If another country did this, they'd be screaming "NAZIS!" at the top of their lungs.  It is amazing to me that people can't SEE this ...

Once again, everyone who doesn't want unlimited third world immigration is a 'hard right' candidate or party. Those who support them are 'right wing extremists'. As though wanting Germany to remain German is horrible and racist.

Fits with the lefts usual cry of 'everyone I don't like is hitler' so at least they are consistent.

BuckwheatSoup's picture

At a genetic level, the idea of "Germaness" is absurd. Just because you happened to be born

in the same geographical area doesn't mean you are in any way similar to millions of other

individuals born in that same area. Even as a nationalistic fiction, "Germany" has only existed

for less than 150 years. There are corporations older than that. I own books older than your "German" nation.

And by your logic, if you are not of British "blood" you should immediately deport yourself from the United States.

What's wrong with wanting to keep America British?

Maimonides would have not accepted conversos and anyone who doesn't observe bris or pesach as Jewish, Jewishness in a non Pharisean sense has existed for less time than Germany. So what?

Language, culture and above all allegiance forms a nation. If Germans decide to pull together in a nation that's their right, as is it for them to decide who's German.

InjuredThales's picture

Buckwheatsoup is a retard. Another fool who does not understand the importance of culture and drift.

German culture and language, with distinctive sub-cultures (such as Bavarian, Swabian, Saxon, Pommeranian, Hessian and Prussian), pre-date the end of the roman empire. The cultural similarities amongst Germans are much greater than their dissimilarities, and people of "German" culture are far more self-similar than they are similar to outsiders.

"China" has been fractured more of its history than its has been a single political entity, and yet nobody is fool enough to argue that there isn't an overarching Chinese culture.

It's not a two-party US model exceptionally simple false dichotomy.

The primary alternative on the left (the Greens) have a serious Muzzie-loving problem, but they (European Greens in gewneral) are also somewhat schitzophrenic, as in addition to the usual koombayah tree-hugging bullshit, there are also strains of neo-eugenics-- zero population growth and zero immigration (among the intellectually superior non-German Greens).

However, while AfD is basically blocked from the extremely rare absolute majority, and it doesn't have a coalition partner to make it to 50% now, the other sides will also have a serious problem cobbling together even a begrudging 50% consensus.

So- it is Progress!, but until the radical right and radical left unite, the Establishment's mediocre centre will muddle through like the laughable Black Knight in a Monty Python sketch...

Element's picture

I see NATO and EU are saying the campaign against Merkel is orchestrated by Russian backing to unseat her, and thus depose a major proponent of sanctions on Russia. But this ignores the fact that Merkel has been a complete fuckup on the immigration issues in Germany and Europe since 2010.

She really is a problem for Europeans, especially Germans, and she will be going away due to it.

And I doubt Russia is actually behind this, though is supporting it now with its propaganda machine, but its ultimately a homegrown revulsion and rejection of foot in mouth, for the most part, and I don't see that getting turned around politically.

But its clear the EU and NATO project want her to stay, a Devil they know who will confront Putin. So it seems to me if the replacement shows a similar commitment to sanctions against Russia, removal of Merkel then becomes a dead certainty, and calls for her to resign will grow, from all directions.

oncemore's picture

15% will not allow the old coalition.

15% will encourage the people in other counties to vote for AFD and might bring somewhere else 30%.

Here it works a different way and many times a party with 5% is the king maker. Getting a lot of benefits, much more, then 5% would normally bring in.

vollderlerby's picture

The German laws around parliamentary representation makes this an interesting situation.

In Saxony-Anhalt, where the AfD has 24%, the established parties no longer have enough votes to form a coalition to get 50% of the votes. The two big parties, the Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats need a third party to get over the 50% hump, most likely the Green party. The only state of the three where the elections happened and where the two big parties can gang up to continue business  as usual is in Rhineland-Pfalz. That’s a painful limitation on the big parties just muddling through the next few years.

Anyone check out the photos election night in Germany?   The main parties looked like the wealth Repub and Democratic (USA) party stooges all worried about their cushy jobs going down the drain.

The AfD people looked like average working people who were not in fancy expensive clothes.  Be wary AfD because the other parties now in Germany will be 100% against you and will do everything to demonize you.

They will use the standard evil Putin, evil Trump endless propaganda against you.

AfD has some good financial backing. Anyone with more than two brain cells should understand that the wealthy German middle class sitting on piles of soon to be worthless ECB fiat is not going to surrender their nation, their kid's future and their legacies to the hordes of muslim dreck that comes with 2 or more wives and 10 or more kids.

I love MY kids. That is why I protect MY kids. I am selfish, so what? It's preservation.

There's a lot more wrong in Germany than just the refugee problem, that is only a symptom of the vassal state status to the US.
German media is like ours, totally controlled by the official party line that generally is dictated by the CIA. Any wonder that the German people want to challenge the dominant political parties?

Germany diverted money from infrastructure to benefits under Merkel. Schools are decaying, bridges are collapsing, roads are potholed, stree lighting is switched off, property taxes are rising.......so what does Merkel do ? She imports more people to live on welfare

Germany with decaying roads, bridges and buildings.  Sickening.

I recall many times seeing old omas sweeping the sidewalk. Younger Germans washing the sidewalk in from of their house or washing their windows.

One reason why the exteriors in many houses in Italy look like crap is the Italian govt raises your taxes if you paint your house.

Merkel and her backers need to be chased to hell.   I love the passion and conviction.  This is total destruction done by Merkel CDU/CSU, SPD and the Green party.  F these monsters!
