US Kills ISIS Second-In-Command For 3rd Time In 2 Years

Tyler Durden's picture

While Russia and Iran are busy liberating whole cities from ISIS in Syria, the US is sticking with the “one raid at a time” approach and it apparently paid dividends on Thursday morning when Abu Alaa Afri, also known as Abd al-Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli and Haji Imam was killed in Syria.

US Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford are set to make the announcement this morning at a press conference and the Pentagon is thrilled. Al-Qaduli had a $7 million bounty on his head, higher than Omar the Chechen (who was killed earlier this month) and Abu Mohammed al-Adnani who is arguably more influential than Bakr himself.

A physics teacher by trade, Mosul-born al-Qaduli was ISIS before ISIS was ISIS. He served as a deputy to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (Islamic State’s “godfather”) and was jailed by the US in Iraq in 2012. Upon his release, he joined ISIS and reportedly was Bin Laden’s choice to lead the group after Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and Abu Ayyub al-Masri were killed in 2010. He was, however, passed over for Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, whose family can be loosely traced to the Prophet.

Al-Qaduli is no stranger to being dead.

He died last April for instance, in a strike on a mosque in Iraq. “Al-Qaduli was one of several people killed in a strike that hit a mosque where Islamic State leaders were meeting,” WSJ reported at the time. He was also killed in September of 2014. Here's the airstrike that killed him last year:

In any event, if al-Qaduli is indeed no more, it means that ISIS has lost two of its top brass in the space of just three weeks (al-Shishani being the other).

And if US SpecOps did indeed kill him, it just goes to show that the CIA has indeed served a burn notice on the entire chain of command. After all, Russia and Hezbollah are pushing uncomfortably close to Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa and dead men, as they say, tell no tales.

I hope they gave him a traditional Islamic burial at sea.  Did they do that last time they killed him?

Maybe no US ships nearby for burial because they ran away when Russia launched those CalibR cruise missiles off of tiny Russian Navy coastal ships from the Caspian and they flew about 1500 miles to Syria.

The Russian ships were about as big as a large Coast Guard cutter.

Baghdadi - Supposed Leader of ISIS

Baghdadi - "Baghdadi Jews, also known as Iraqi Jews, are Jewish emigrants from Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq, which not only includes Jews from the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, but from other areas of Iraq, as well as Jews from Syrian and Yemenite origin.[1] Many of them were merchant traders settled on trade routes, who fled religious persecution and formed immigrant communities in their new homelands. Baghdad and Iraq in general used to have one of the largest, if not the largest Jewish community in the Middle East and Central Asia,"

Don't forget we told him that we were going to kill him then bring him back just so we could kill him again.   See, it's all according to our design.

Well, at least Obama killed bin Laden only once and in great respect for his muslim tradition, dumped the body at sea.

I thought he was always dead already? He was dead of kidney failure a decade before then they dug him up and redirected him into Pakistan where they killed him again.

Everyone knows it takes a double tap to kill a zombie ISIS second-in-command.

<Then you bury the body at sea.>

Mrs Cog says they killed this guy more times than Bin Laden. :-)

It's the greatest threat global security has ever faced.

All the weapons in the world won't matter once ISIS army kick into gear!

OMG, they've killed Tom Magliozzi! And I thought he'd been dead already for a couple years.

Pattern follows exactly method US used against Al Qayda in Iraq - killed many of the guys "second-in-command" AQI during Cheney administration.

I can't fathom how these "Terr'rist" groups fill that #2 job.  Worst job in the world, even worse than being a "red shirt guy" on Star Trek.

Not really.  It just proves these terrists have super powers.  Or that their god really is behind this phoney war.

Off the deck of an aircraft carier no less.

Does anybody know the cost involved in having a carrier task group do so much as make an unscheduled rendevous with another military vessel for personel transfers? It is a ton of money. I wonder who approved the budget for that burial at sea mission of the guy who caused 9/11, thousands of americans killed, 15 years of war ... taxpayers have the right to know.

"Baghdadi - "Baghdadi Jews, also known as Iraqi Jews, are Jewish emigrants from Baghdad and elsewhere in Iraq"

Like Rita Katz, born in Basra, Iraq and maker of beheading videos for Mossad. Its been awhile since I visited ZH, but the enormous disparity in information/knowledge/wisdom between the mainstream and places like ZH is such that I find it difficult to have conversations about ANYTHING with "normal" people these days. How can people not know this stuff in plain sight?

funkyfreddy's picture

Indeed. If America really has any intention of wiping out ISIS then surely its about time they brought every single member of that SITE "inteligence group" in for some water boarding. They release every single video and every single statement from ISIS so at the very least they must know a whole lot of useful info. Probably more.

Kirk2NCC1701's picture

Why is it that, with all the US arms that ISIS has snapped up from the Iraqi Army, and all the US arms (ARs) we supplied to 'Moderate Jihadists/Rebels', that we always see them using Kalashnikovs (AKs) in their EU attacks?

And why is it, that on a show like The Outsiders -- a mountain hillbilly clan that's living on top of a large coal deposit -- that when they barber moonshine for ARs, that none of the ARs are American ones? Instead, you see Russian AKs all over the place.

Have any of these Research people been to a US gunshop and looked around?  Good luck in finding AKs, when US ARs abound.

Nice bit of Social Conditioning/Engineering going on, sheeple.

Ms No's picture

I wouldn't be surprised that if in the past the US was a very large customer for the kalashnikov.  They are already have ISIS in Nikes driving around in Toyotas from Texas, they probably shouldn't have them all carrying US military weaponry.

HowdyDoody's picture

The CIA prefers AKs to US weapons as i) they work and ii) plausible deniability.

Clearly, if you want to have a high tech job by day in the US and enjoy its Safe Spaces and then moonlight as Jihadi Joe by night and party hearty in Crazy Spaces, you simply swap one Look for another.

A group of ISIS members on the border at the corner of with Israel-occupied Golan Heights and Jordan are miraculously taking territory from the FSA that surrounds them.

Just how the cash-strapped takfiris get the weapons and manpower to take on and win over a larger surrounding FSA forces? I guess it is one of those Invisible Hand puzzles.

My guess is that ISIS will expand along the Israel occupied border. Then once that is done, Israel will shriek "OMG, ISIS! National Security! We must defend ourselves!". The IDF will then expand further into Syria. The ISIS patsies currently guarding the territory Israel covets will move away with a token show of resistance.

The same department that reports the number of people who got hired, is the one reporting the kills in Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

They figure that nobody is paying attention so they can report whatever drivel they want to the American people, and nobody will account for theiir bullshit.
