All Hell Breaks Loose After Trump Says Women Should Be "Punished" For Illegal Abortions

Tyler Durden's picture

Just yesterday, we discussed Donald Trump’s “women problems.”

Although one might fairly question the methodology behind the polls and whether the questions were designed to elicit a certain type of response, it is worth noting that in three separate surveys (NBC, WSJ, and CNN), Trump’s favorability rating with female voters was 27% or less.

Even if one assumes that the polls were inherently biased, there’s probably some truth to the contention that the things Trump has said about women in the past haven’t done anything to help him when it comes to garnering a large percentage of the female vote and may indeed come back to haunt him in a national contest with Hillary Clinton.

Well on Wednesday, in an MSNBC town hall event, Trump was cornered by host Chris Matthews who asked the GOP frontrunner about his position on illegal abortion.

Below, you can find the highlights as compiled by Bloomberg.

  • Host Chris Matthews presses Trump on anti-abortion position, repeatedly asking him, “Should abortion be punished? This is not something you can dodge”
    • “Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump answers
    • “How about you?” Matthews asks
    • “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on. Are you going to send them to jail?” Trump says
    • “I’m asking you,” Matthews says
    • “I am pro-life,” Trump says
    • “How do you actually ban abortion?” Matthews asks
    • “Well, you go back to a position like they had where they would perhaps go to illegal places but we have to ban it,” Trump says
  • Matthews then presses Trump on if he believes there should be punishment for abortion if it were illegal
    • “There has to be some form of punishment,” Trump says
    • “For the woman?” Matthews says; “Yeah,” Trump says, nodding
    • Trump says punishment would “have to be determined”
    • “They’ve set the law and frankly the judges, you’re going to have a very big election coming up for that reason because you have judges where it’s a real tipping point and with the loss of Scalia, who was a very strong conservative, this presidential election is going to be very important,” Trump says
    • “When you say what’s the law, nobody knows what the law is going to be. It depends on who gets elected,” Trump says

Obviously, this was "gotcha" journalism on Matthews' part (once he established that he was referring to illegal abortions he knew he could pin Trump between having to either say women should be punished or that women could break the law with impunity), and as we saw last year with the whole Kurds/Quds Hugh Hewitt debacle, Trump is susceptible to badgering. The other problem here is that it isn't clear that Trump truly believes some of the things he's forced to say as a Republican candidate, which leads to exchanges like that recounted above. "Don't overthink it: Trump doesn't understand the pro-life position because he's not pro-life," a Cruz aid tweeted. Here's Politico with a bit of context:

Trump’s policy idea is a departure from most state abortion restrictions, which don’t impose penalties on the women who get abortions. Typically, any penalties are imposed on the physician who does the procedure.

The anti-abortion movement in recent decades has shied away from the perception that it is “punishing” women for getting abortions. Instead, it has focused on penalties for the physicians who provide them, such as imposing medical or legal restrictions on their practice. In some rare situations, women have faced charges associated with abortions they have attempted on their own.

Having realized this had become a PR fiasco, Trump promptly walked back his comments.

This is a statement released just moments ago, in which the billionaire revises his initial comments, calling the women "victims", and stating it is doctors who should be held legally responsible for performing the illegal act:

If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be legally responsible, not the woman. The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb. My position has not changed - like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions.

But by the time the Trump campaign released that statement it was far too late. The media, women's rights groups, pro-abortion groups, as well as all of Trump's political opponents smelled blood.

"The last person women need to police their health care decisions is someone who sees them not as people, but as ‘fat pigs,’ ‘bimbos’ and ‘disgusting animals,’" Marcy Stech, a spokeswoman for Emily's List, a pro-abortion-rights group said.

Here's the reaction from March for Life:

And from Bernie Sanders:

And here's the Cruz campaign calling Trump a "charlatan":

Expect this soundbite to play on a loop should Trump end up squaring off against Clinton this fall. Speaking of whom:

No you didn't. When you finally get a gutful just bail on the States altogether. Pull the pin on that tax farm if it isn't to your likiing. Your emotional attachment is causing you undue pain.

Strange thinking? Would you say America is turning/has turned into a shithole?

Yet you love it and won't leave?

That's warped thinking right there. I think sometimes we are more attached to our idea about something, than the actual thing itself - in this case our Homelands. I'd be the first to agree - they don't stack up to our expectations.

It isn't a child until it is viable outside the womb. Until then it is a body part.

nuubee's picture

Meh, I think he'll survive even this. The truth is, he's right. Abortions without consequences only encourage women to play fast and loose with their wombs. The equivalent right for men would be letting men simply walk away from a wife and kids, take all his money, and wash his hands of them. That's the equivalent right in men, but no one would dare consider such irresponsible behavior from fathers OK, so why are women let off the hook?

And before you say, "her body, her rights.".... "his blood, sweat, tears, his money."

Also, women have how many ways of preventing pregnancy? And they still need abortions? Give me a break. If you're a woman, and you can't prevent pregnancy with some method, at this point you're just a complete idiot.

Trump should issue a statement saying that he does however, support free, unrestricted, and unpunished abortions for African American women.

That would create a total and hilarious shitstorm and mindfuck for the left at the same time.

nuubee's picture

FDA just approved abortion pill use up to 70-days after pregnancy, 70 days and a woman can take a pill and wash her hands of the results of her poor decisions.

Meanwhile, men who can prove that a child is not biologically his are threatened with jail time if they don't pay for it. And in western nations outside of the U.S., it is in fact illegal in many places to attempt to prove paternity without the womans approval, meaning if she lied she can legally protect her lie.

And abortion is the third rail of American politics? The third rail of american politics is the smarmy selfish western women who accept no responsibility for making society better, but want all of the benefits of it.

Tall Tom's picture

...because the BOY did not make a poor decision by fucking that woman in the first place.

It is ALL HER FAULT and the boy should not held accountable at all.

She consensually spread her legs and you were just having one of those inconvenient "Sexual Emergencies" after all. It exonerates you from the consequences emanating from tfucking that woman, right?

And just how do you spell HYPOCRISY?

nuubee's picture

I spell hypocrisy this way:

1) Women who accidentally get pregnant when they're not ready to be a mother can abort the baby.

2) Boys who accidentally get a girl pregnant when they're not ready to be a father ARE FUCKED.

How does eating white-knight crow taste?

Tall Tom's picture

Well it seems like you have the initiative in the first place..

If you do not fuck the woman then there are no accidents, are there?

Afterwards you can whine about it as you allowed it to develop out of your control.

That is called being personal;y responsible and being taken to account for your "accident".

Tough luck and too bad.

I am not paying for it. Hell no.

Did you even to bother to ask the bitch what she thought about abortion BEFORE you dicked her?

Maybe you needed to have gotten to know her before you fucked her.

There is no "White Knight" here. This is not about protecting the fucking sluts that have "accidents" They are just as culpable in being degenerates....fucking around indiscriminately. They are slut whores from Hell.

The truth is that you have just as much fucking ownership as they have. It takes at least two to fuck.

I only know of one Virgin Birth some 2000 years ago.

Stop shifting the blame and OWN IT. You whine like a hedonistic liberal.

nuubee's picture

You're lecturing me on ownership? I called you a hypocrite and you had no response other than whining.

You are a hypocrite. You defend consequence-less abortion for women, while not equally condeming the inescapable financial slavery of the boys.

Apparently you think women are children who must be protected from their bad decisions. Whereas boys are supposed to "own" the results of their poor decisions. How does it feel to be someone who hates women and considers them immature and unlike boys, unable to deal with the consequences of their choices? Do your friends know you feel men are the superior sex with your abortion-defending-but-financially-enslaving-for-males views?

Tall Tom's picture

You defend consequence-less abortion for women, while not equally condeming the inescapable financial slavery of the boys.

Really? You make that absurd claim?

From my opening remarks on this thread. I guess that it bears repeating. Perhaps you did not read it.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-03-30/all-hell-breaks-loose-after-tru...

Yes I am okay with women being imprisoned for having abortions. In fact I strongly believe that women that have abortions need to be subjected to a state sposored and FORCED sterilization, They need to undergo the surgical removal of their womb, a hysterectomy.

Perhaps you ought to read it.

But even if you did not read  it still does not remove or alleviate the FACT that you want to place all of the blame upon the women who opt for abortion after your "accident".

Own up to it.

Tom

Sounds like you hate your self and the man that fathered you.  Sound like you blame him for your situation.  Please don't.  Its fatalistic, its destiny, you are here.

Women have the ultimate decision of selecting who to sleep with.   Women are not innocent bystanders.  Women use pregnancy to trap a man, and men and like me were unprepared to be a father in a family with that woman. My sons mother did not make it easier for me as I was slow to rise to the occaision.  When a woman loses interest, you are nothing to her.  I was.

If women are so innocent why are ther so many cases of families where by  some reports up to 30% of the children are not by the husband.  Women cheat on their husbands and cuckold them.

Tall Tom's picture

How can I hate someone I never met?

My biological father had sex outside of his marriage and knocked up my biological mother, half his age.

Furthermore I never met my biological mother.

and for bankers, and hedge fund traders, and stockbrokers, and all those other welfare recipients!!

Tall Tom's picture

And sterilization should be a prerequisite to welfare.

Yes. I agree as long as the biological father of the child also is forced to undergo sterilization.

If a BOY fucks a woman and brings a life into the world then the BOY needs toGROW UP, become a MAN, as he is  responsible for taking care of the child also.

If a BOY refuses that responsibility, and the state has to pick up the tab for his mistake, then both the biological father and the biological mother need to be sterilized.

Pay for your kids or lose your nuts.

That would cause a steep decline in the welfare rolls and unwanted pregnancies really quick.

Oldwood's picture

As I understand the law, the "father" is held responsible regardless. He cannot initiate or force an abortion, BUT the women can do whatever she pleases.

My sister in law is a nice progressive with two grown kids. I asked about abortion one day as she fully supports it. I asked her why she would prefer abortion to giving a child up for adoption and she said she could NEVER give up a child to adoption. That told me all I needed to know about abortion. It is about personal convenience superseding LIFE.

This should give proper notice to the value of ALL our lives to the progressive agenda. Our lives only matter with regard to our ability to either fund their agendas or provide democratic legitimacy to their stranglehold on power. The day we no longer fill either need, our usefulness (and potentially our lives) are completely disposable. If an unborn child is a burden, then please explain exactly how an older person dependent upon progressive lies for survival will fare? Once a super-majority of dependent voters is achieved, the paring can begin, eliminating the greatest overhead and the greatest THREAT.

The first thing the communists understood was things are much easier when the opposition and overhead are removed. Let us recall that early on in the Scandinavian socialist experiment, they were fully committed to sterilization of the less desirables as a means to control costs. Centralized government is all about efficiency (although they are the worst at achieving it) and given they rely on redistribution for survival, MUST continually shed costs.

Tall Tom's picture

Then a man needs to abstain from having sex with a woman who has that attitude in the fiirst place.

That is a litmus test that one can use BEFORE jumping in the sack with a woman. "What do you believe about abortion? Could you abort a baby? If the answer is yes then you do not have sex with her...ever.

If you jump in the sack with a woman who does not valoe life then you are responsible for the outcome. That is a consequence of your behavior."

But it's not socially polite to ask such things on a first date.....or a hook-up as they now call it.

Brilliant!

nuubee's picture

Oh, so women are deciding to have unwanted children and go on welfare? And the men should pay for those things? What do the men get for their trouble?

Why should single men, who have never impregnated anyone, pay for the 3rd, 4th, 5th children of imbeciles who can't choose a man to be a father?

Blankenstein's picture

more children = bigger welfare check

They (or any other taxpayer) shouldn't have to pay for it, but that is what the government does currently.  It is a government sponsored breeding program.  If you are on welfare you should also have to be on birth control.

beemasters's picture

"Why should single men, who have never impregnated anyone, pay for the 3rd, 4th, 5th children of imbeciles who can't choose a man to be a father?"

Well, It's a bargain considering they pay for those costly illegal wars that has nothing to do with national security, but only to enrich the elites.

Theosebes Goodfellow's picture

~"And their unwanted children go on welfare also and perpetuate the cycle for another generation!"~

Seriously, I think you could beat that. Just offer a woman wanting an abortion say $500 to get sterilized at the same time. In the contract to this put a disclaimer that the woman will have no legal recourse in the future if she changes her mind and wants to be "repaired". Five C notes is cheap compared to the cost of 18 years of government support, ejukashun, free cell phones and incarceration costs.

Blankenstein's picture

If you're a man and you don't wear a condom when you aren't married to the woman you are also a complete idiot.  No guarantee that a woman won't lie about using birth control to snag herself a "baby daddy."  Any man that risks this, deserves to have to pay up for at least the next 18 years.

What of rape?

What of my small girlfriend who was held down by her very large boyfriend and he came in her without a condom and announced "Happy Birthday, I just gave you a baby?" She did not want the present, they had always had protected sex before.

Edit: Don't just mark this post down, explain your point of view.
